  • When i try to change icon to Firefox, when i press change icon it give me the IE ones not Firefox ones? How can i get it back to firefox icons?

When you press properties then change icon, instead of the 3 firefox ones you normally see, it give me the IE ones, how can i get the firefox ones back, Firefox beta 4 is my default.

Click Properties > Change icon > Browse > (the folder where you install your Firefox, usually in Drive C:) > Firefox.exe
The 3 Firefox ones you normally see should be listed.

  • When i drag icons from the adress bar to the desktop they are changed to the firefox icon, how can i keep the sites icon?

Rather than use favorites, I like to drag the icon in the address bar to the desktop or a folder to create a shortcut. In my older computers the icon in the shortcut was the same as the icon in the address bar. in my new Win 7 computer the icon is changed to a Firefox icon. How can I prevent the icon from being changed?

If you drag a link or favicon on the left end of the location bar onto the desktop to create an internet shortcut then that shortcut gets the icon of the default browser.
If you want a different icon (favicon) then you have to assign that icon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties).
You can usually get the favicon if you append "favicon.ico" to the main domain of a website (e.g. http://www.mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder or see if you can find it in "Tools > Page Info > Media".

  • Why can't you change the .html/.htm filetype icons for Firefox?

**Before you read this question: NOTICE I am talking about Firefox Icons on Windows, NOT ON FIREFOX BOOKMARKS/PROGRAM!!!!! Read the question then please, please visit the link so you have a better understanding of what I'm asking with this question!!!!**
I've been trying to change the FileType Icons for the Firefox Documents for weeks now and there's no solution that I can see. I tried using Filetypes Manager to change the .html/.htm filetypes icons with no luck. Why does Firefox force this change on users when most users that use Firefox do so because of it's ability to be customizable? Even Microsoft Word .doc file icons allow you to change them! Microsoft!!! Why is Firefox forcing everyone to use their ugly filetype icons? &____& I've yet to see this issue not only addressed but solved. Why does Firefox ignore this issue? I'd like my computer's icons to all be top-notch, and Firefox is preventing me from making my weeks of hard work go to naught. Please, please address this issue... if anything, tell your users why your program is forcing the icons on them in the first place when monopolies like Microsoft allow their users to customize program filetype icons.
If this cannot have a fix, why can't it be a new feature/addition to the newest versions of Firefox?
Edit: And because people are starting to get 'confused' I've included a screen shot of what I'm talking about because, for the love of god, people, I'm *not* talking about using favicons and bookmarks!
    http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c231/arcanetheorem/example.png

The only thing I changed about the question was to add an image and to try and make it more understandable since everyone assumed I was talking about Favicons/Bookmark Icons....
As for it being a Windows 7 issue and not a Firefox one... if it were just a Windows 7 issue I wouldn't be able to change other application icons or filetype icons on the Windows platform using FileTypes Manager. Firefox, from what I've been able to gather, is not one that can be changed. If I change the filetype icons for Word Documents any other extension (like .mp3/.mp4/.avi/.mkv), I get the changed icon I wanted. However, when you try to change the Firefox .html/.htm filetype extension icons, it doesn't work. Have you tried going through changing your icon filetypes using FileTypes Manager to see this issue? If it were a Windows or FileType Manager issue, then I'd have trouble changing other icons on that platform, no? So what I'm asking with my question is why this is. Why, if you use FileTypes Manager to change Windows7 icons, is Firefox's icons the only ones that won't be changed? Doesn't this fall under Firefox's problem if their icons are under the 'can't be changed' category under Windows? And using shortcut icons is no good for me. When I browse a folder of .html files, I want to see the icons I changed it to, not make a shortcut to every .html file I have just to have a better-looking Visual Style. Defeats the purpose, doesn't it? As for clicking on Properties to change it... Windows 7 doesn't allow this feature anymore, which is why I've been using FileType Manager to change all filetype extension icons.
Hope that helps clear things up a bit, though I have a feeling I'm just confusing everyone more with what is a simple question/problem....

  • Firefox 31 changes all PDF icons to Firefox HTML icons that I can not seem to change back, can this be rectified? Using Windows XP.....

Once Firefox 31 is installed it sees all PDF files as Firefox HTML files and changes all of the PDF icons to Firefox HTML icons. This change can not seem to be reversed without uninstalling Firefox.
Only the icon is changed, not the .PDF extension.

Thank you for your reply but it's not that simple:
Windows now thinks that the default file type for .pdf is Firfox HTML Document.
I can change which program opens .pdf files but I can't change the icon.
    Not a Firefox problem? Really?
    EDIT:
Let me explain further so that you can understand. In folder options / file types I can scroll thru and choose any file type / advanced and change the icon...every one of them except (now) .pdf. There is no advanced tab. Only the message about "restore" I mentioned before.
Firefox changed the file association for .pdf files and now I can't fix it.
    And from another thread:
"Firefox 31 is not converting or renaming your files. All it is doing is registering with the Windows OS as an application that is able to open the files and Windows then changes the file's icons accordingly.
This should only occur if no other application has already registered your .pdf files."
Well I guess that's not true is it?

Or use this extension to restore missing Favicons --> '''CheckPlaces 2.6.1'''

  • The words underneath the shortcut icon for Firefox having changed inexplicably from Mozilla Firefox to BOLB should I be concerned?

On my wife's computer the words below the Mozilla Firefox shortcut icon suddenly and without any action on her part that she is aware of changed from "mozilla Firefox" to "BOLB". Clicking the icon opened Firefox without problems.
Deleting the icon and re-creating it solved the problem in terms of the icon appearing as it used to and should but I'm concerned that there may be an underlying issue. Should we be worried? We use and religiously update AVAST antivirus software (the free version).

Sorry that should have been the Firefox shortcut on your desktop and not the desktop.
You can right-click the Firefox icon on your desktop and open the Properties and place a check mark in the Read-only check box. That will prevent other program from modifying the name or other properties of that shortcut.

Uninstall the "ConnectBar" extension, you may have to reset [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries keyword.URL] in your '''about:config''' afterwards or change to a value you prefer for [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search#Location_Bar_search_.28external_-_search_engine.29 Location bar searches].
The extension is not at Addons, it may have been obtained from an [http://www.facebook.com/pages/ConnectBar/156184567774985 advertisement] on Facebook.

  • How do I disable the tray icon for firefox (version 5)

I want to get rid of the tray icon for firefox 5.

I should also add this info for all to see clear as part of my question (can be seen in More system details too):
I liked that version, was the first ever FireFox browser I tried and because of it made it my number 1 browser. There have been a heck of a lot from 3.6 to 18 though I think we’d all agree. Progress can and often is messy, but worth it.
Which is fine except mine, a different version, up-to-date plugins – and I’ve still same problem as these guys. It’s exactly the same even for me who has updated: How do we get rid of the Plugin Check Screen every time we start FireFox? I know I am up-to-date – as it tells me every single time!
I agree everyone should be up-to-date with the software and this may very well be the case that solves a lot of people with lower versions – yet I can say I updated from version 12 to the latest 18, spent the time getting half a dozen different updates as it wanted (all of which are supported according to the link you provided) plugins and yet I am still having the same problem as users with 3.6 and older plugins! Went back to version 12.0 and I am getting the problem since installing version 18.
Therefore from the fact I’m still getting the popup every time telling me everything is updated and safe, which is lovely to know, still doesn’t change the fact it won’t go away! Not a major problem but it is getting tedious now every single time.
Like I say I am willing to wait and see if this gets fixed anyway which to be fair, FireFox seem to do a lot better than the competition. If it doesn’t though I’d still rather go back to an older version just to be rid of it! But not even that is now working to be gone of it! It’s gotten that ridiculous for me now too!
    :)

  • Where to find desk top icons for firefox, not short cuts, icons

I do not like the blue world desk top icon for Nightly and I would to use the other desk top icon with the fox curled inside the blue world. Please send me the icon, not the short cut. Thanks !

Sounds like a question for a Windows 7 support forum. I don't use Win7, but in WinXP if you right-click a desktop icon and open Properties, there is a button for '''Change Icon'''. As finitarry alluded to, you will need to come up with your own icon file of the correct size. Keep in mind that Nightly updates frequently, actually it updates '''''nightly''''', and you may find that you need to replace that icon every day. ''Speculation on my part, I have never wasted my time replacing a desktop shortcut icon for a program that updated frequently. And if you spent any time searching for how to do that specifically for Firefox, anything you might have found about fiddling Firefox program files or the Firefox Profile folder hasn't worked since the Firefox 3.0 version.''

  • Where does one get icons in Firefox to place in Short cuts created?

I created a desktop shortcut but want to change the Firefox world to something more appropriate.Where can I find icons. IE furnishes numerous alternate icons

    1. Find an icon that you would like to use as your default Firefox icon,
you can use Google to find them, make sure that the icon ends in ".ico."
    2. Download the icon.
    3. Right-click on your default Firefox icon and scroll down to "Properties." In the pop-up window, select the "Shortcut" tab, choose "Change Icon."
    4. Click "Browse" and select you icon file and press "OK."
    5. Press "Apply" to see how your icon looks

  • Firefox 4's dark monochromatic icons make Firefox Personas unusable

The distinctive and colourful toolbar icons provided by Firefox 3 (and add-on developers designing for Firefox 3) have been replaced by dark monochromatic toolbar icons in Firefox 4. The new icons are barely visible with my preferred Firefox persona, so I've been forced to restyle my browser.
The only solution that anyone is offering to the dark icon problem is the Firefox 3 theme for Firefox 4+. But this is not a solution for me because I want to use a persona of my own choice. Personas are a legitimate part of Firefox's look and feel which we were heavily encouraged to adopt by Mozilla. I don't want to use a standard, pale grey browser, and if I did, then I'd be able to see the dark monochromatic icons quite easily.
I want to restore the Firefox 3-style icons for downloads, history, bookmarks, cut, copy and paste - without installing a theme. I am really hoping that someone will provide some information on how to alter individual toolbar icons the light way, i.e. in userChrome.css.
Why Mozilla chose to make such a fanfare about introducing personas in Firefox 3, and then crippled the concept of personal customisation in Firefox 4 with toolbar icons which are hard to see against dark, bright or complex backgrounds is hard to understand. Of course you can see icons which you place on the navigation toolbar, thanks to the huge new square buttons, but also thanks to the huge new square buttons, you can't fit many icons on the navigation toolbar. In a nutshell, Firefox 4's visual design takes away a little bit of the freedom and choice which made us love Firefox in the first place.

I've discovered a solution to my problem. The problem boils down to the issue that Firefox 4 (currently 4.0.1) won't allow personas to be used in conjunction with 3rd party themes (which may or may not be a bug). A thirdparty theme like [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firefox-3-theme-for-firefox/ Firefox 3 theme for Firefox 4+] will provide FF3-style toolbar icons but it can't be skinned with a lightweight persona. This problem can be solved by changing the value of lightweightThemes.isThemeSelected to true in about:config, after installing the 3rd party theme, thereby allowing a persona to be applied.

  • How do I change icons in my favorites toolbar?

I am migrating from IE to Firefox. So far, I really like the overall look and feel of the interface, and I like the ability to create it to look and function the way I want it to.
I was hoping to be able to customize my bookmarks by creating my own Icon files as I have in Internet Explorer. For example, in IE I can right click on the bookmark in the Favorites toolbar, select Properties from the pop-up menu, then select the Change Icon button, and I can select any icon file which I have created. The graphic then appears in the bookmark. I love it! Can I do this in Firefox?
    Thank you for any information,
    Joe

Firefox doesn't have that feature by default, you can add that feature with this add-on.
