Change illustrator import settings after placed

Hi,
I have a file with a few hundred illustrator files which have been placed into an indesign file. I would like to change the crop settings to crop. Is there a way of doing it without re placing all of the files?
I have quite a few of these files, so I'll literally have to replace thousands of files - tedious to say the least.
Steven.

This probably requires a script. We have a few regualrs here that do scripting, but you might get faster service by asking over in http://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign/indesign_scripting

  • [ID CS5] Change imported .ai crop settings after placed.

    Hi,
I have a file with a few hundred illustrator files which have been placed into an indesign file. I would like to change the crop settings to trim. Is there a way of doing it without re placing all of the files?
To explain it better, what you would normally do is click file > place and check the show import options. A dialog box would then appear asking where to crop the file. Is there a way of getting this dialog box / change the crop options after the file has been placed.
If someone could write a script for this, I would happily shoot over some beer money(£10), as it will save me hours.
    Steven.

Awesome! There's a preference that controls whether manually re-placed images retain their scale. But looks lke you found the better way.
While we're here, I would tend to shy away from naming the variable, "image," because in the InDesign DOM Image is a subclass of Graphic, but your code operates on all Graphics (EPS | Image | ImportedPage | PDF | PICT | WMF).
    Enjoy!

  • Cannot Change Custom Import Settings For AAC's

Last night I changed the custom import settings from 192 kbps to 160 kbps for a particular mp3 album I wanted to convert with that bitrate. I tried to change the custom settings back to 192 kbps (the bitrate most of my mp3's & wma's are in). For some reason, the window that came up many times before refuses to pop up now. I tried the custom settings for mp3's and that window still pops up. Anyway, I tried a repair and nothing happened. I uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, and Apple Software Updates, deleted there corresponding folders in C:/Program Files and then restarted the computer. I downloaded the iTunes 9 installer through the iTunes website and proceeded to reinstall iTunes. Still, the problem exists. I'm not sure what else to do? The only other thing I can think of is to do the same except install iTunes 8 instead and then search for updates and reinstall iTunes 9 that way. Would anyone know of any other method on solving my problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    glenn,
I have the same problem and it is driving me crazy. If you find a solution please email me at [email protected]

  • *H*E*L*P* - I am UNABLE to change my Import settings on my iPod shuffle....

Can anyone on the planet Help me with my problem?!
    My Import Settings state:
    On CD Insert-"Show CD"
    Import Using-"MP3 Encoder"
    Setting-"High Quality, 160 kbps".
I would like to change these settings. Although, everytime I enter the Preferences foler and click on the Advanced tab and next on the Importing tab also make subtle changes they will Not adhere. Do I need to erase every program and start all over again or does anybody have a quick fix for me?
I am on a bended knee with my head bowed down and hands clasped together also pleading with everyone. Can someone or anybody please, Help Me?!

You may want to have a look at this thread .
Although similar problems are reported from time to time, there doesn't seem to be a straightforward solution.
If all else fails, then m1t's workaround could be worth pursuing.

  • Change Default Import Settings

This has bugged me for a while now. I have created an Import Preset to import my photos to my "F" drive. Works perfectly but sometimes...the import Preset reverts to the original Lightroom Import setting which imports to my "C".drive. If I right click on my Import Preset, my Import to "F" is checked.
How can I prevent LR4 from reverting to the default import settings and is there anyway to either remove the old default altogether or make my Import to "F", my default?
    Bob

I found a previous post that appears to work.  Since the netbook doesn't show an OK in the preference window, I just had to hit enter to accept and change the setting.
    Thanks to all.

  • Illustrator Import to After Effects

    Hey all,
Its been a while since i ever had a problem with importing things, in fact its never been a problem until now, and no-one seems to know whats wrong.
+ i'll post links to images as well to fully show whats wrong.
    Problem:
Im working on a project where i animate a character made in illustrator and then importing it to after effects. I made the character fine in after effects see here:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/nethstar/My_o_Fine.jpg
Then after saving it and importing it into after effects, some of the layers seem to want to move layer order or change shape, as seen here:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/nethstar/My_o_Bad.jpg
(As you can see the arm has gotten smaller, and the hand in the back is not layer behind the leg as it was in illustrator)
Im not sure what else to mention apart from, i've worked illustrator for the whole thing, there are around 57 layers and it is quite a complex layout but i managed to make everything work that wat previously with another project but for some reason this time it wont change. Ive also tried chnging the save settings many times but not really made any difference.
Im using CS3 versions of both Illustrator and AE.
If anyone could help i would be highly greatful.
    Thanks in adance.
P.S: It works when i use a photoshop file but not with illustrator, but i find it less time consuming to work with an illustrator file in case ineed to make adjustments with the the character. ALSO i found that layer order does not stay when importing from illustrator. eg - Layer 1, 5, 2, 3, 6, 4, ordering in illustrator will come out layers 1,2,3,4,5,6...and its REALLY fustrating because tutorials seem to do it with ease.

Re: layer order: You may have some invisible stuff inbetween which could throw AE off track. Removing those invisible elements may improve matters. Also check your layer naming. Give your layers respective names to enforce correct ordering. Short of that - could be a bug, could be not. I'm doing not enough work with AI to gauge this.
Re: changes in size: This may hinge on the use of compound paths and clipping masks. There are a few known issues with this, some of which have been addressed in the 8.0.2 update, but not all of them. I'm afraid only CS4 will fully resolve the matter, so in the meantime you will probably have to find different ways to deal with it. One thing you can attempt is to disable the "Preview" option for at least one of your critical layers. This will enforce a different treatment of the file and AE will re-calculate the bounding boxes instead of using the info stored in the file for the preview.

  • Can I change a Projects Settings after project completed?

I have a query regarding project settings.  I have completed a project using video and still images but have realised afterwards that I should have set it up initially as PAL-DV Standard instead of PAL-DV Widescreen.  Is there a way that I can go back and change the settings now or do I have to start over and re-do all of my importing again?  Is there a way that I can change the output to disc to compensate?  In the "Share" option I have tried outputting to DVD using Standard and Widescreen options but I still think the ratios look wrong.
Also, if this is not possible, is it possible to export the entire movie into a new project that has the correct settings that can still be edited and malipulated in the new project?
Any info greatly appreciated before I tackle this whole project again.  I am running PE4.
    Thanks, Rachel

    Rachel,
Unfortunately, PrE does not make this easy. In PrPro, one could just create a New Sequence with the proper settings, then do a Ctrl+A (Select All) for the faulted Sequcne, Ctrl+C (Copy), select the new Sequence, Target the Tracks, set the CTI to 00;00;00;00, then do Ctrl+V (Paste). Done.
There is a Clipboard extender, Clipmate, that gets good reviews here. I have not used it, but others have. It allows one to do the Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V into a new Project, with the proper settings. This would be how I would approach things.
Some users have had good fortune hacking the PREL (Project) file, which is basically just an XML database with links and XML instructions. If one were to do this, I would first strongly recommend only working with a Copy of the PREL. Then, set up a New Project, with the proper settings, and use that as my "template" to make changes to the XML, as it will have the proper formatting. I'd keep both PREL files open, and go line by line, knowing that the PREL form your Project (that Copy), will have all the links and instructions.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How can you change the import settings in iTunes 8?

The option in "Advanced Preferences" to say what format you want to import tracks no longer seems to be available in iTunes 8. Where is it?

I too have problems importing CDs. I get an error message that says, "Error occurred while converting the file, you do not have enough privileges". Being a very recent convert from PCs I am a relative novice I cannot find my way around this machine very well and do not know how to change the privileges. I have got as far as altering permissions in Get Info, and have done the Repair disk permissions in the Disk Utility, but to no avail. Can anyone help please, I have to rescue the situation before my wife throws the machine out the window and forces me back top the dark side!!
    Thanks

  • While importing pictures I cannot change the import settings on the right hand side of the panel. I would like to change the date format.

Apparently I am missing something (stupid). Suggestions are welcome. I'm a novice with Lightroom. Just migrated from Aperture.

I am going to assume that what you meant about changing the date format is that you want to change the way the date is formatted in the renamed file. Is that correct? To do that, you need to tell Lightroom you want to rename your photos during import. On the right hand side panel of the Import dialog is a section on File Renaming. Open that up and you will find a Template drop down box. This is where you can build a file renaming template to fit your needs or you can create a custom one. If you do create your own, make sure to save it as a preset if you want to reuse later. There are all sorts of ways to rename your files with several different date formats to choose from.
Another possibility is the subfolder option for where you are going to store your imported folders. If you chose to Organize By Date, you can also use the Date Format drop down box to choose a date format. This will cause Lightroom to build a folder for each date found in photos you are importing a create a separate folder for each day found. So, if you had three batches of photos from three separate days, three new folders would be built by Lightroom and the photos created on day one would be stored in the day one folder. Same for day two and day three.
Finally, if you don't like the format of the capture date or one of the other dates fields stored in the metadata, you are out of luck. You can change the date but not the format.

  • Data is changing in the file after placing

    Hi all,
    scenario is proxy to file
i am passing a field value as Country - India
and in the file the value is in this way Country âu20ACu201C India and i need to get it as Country - India  in the .csv file
Its a one to one mapping
can anybody tell me why is this so.
    Thanks
    Sai_SHA.

    Hi Sai_SHA,
I have a problem with the same conversion issue in the output but in a different usage (a BAPI for sales activity change).  I have a message open in OSS right now for them to investigate.  I've played around with character conversions in a test program and was able to make it work but it required usage of a different code page.  The conversion that was happening in my scenario was happening at the system level so if that's happening for you then it might also be what's affecting you.

  • HT1473 After cd is downloaded to iTunes on my computer do I need to touch "Import Settings"?

After CD is downloaded to my computer through iTunes do I touch the "import settings" ?

While the reply you've had so far is correct, it misses the fact that the Import Settings determines which format iTunes will use to import from CD.
So to address the specific question you asked, and judging by the article you were reading (Adding music and other content to iTunes) ...
You should choose which Import Setting you are going to use to import the CD, before you begin importing.
The relevance of the Import Settings after importing is when you want to convert an existing file from one format to another. For example, suppose you import a CD using m4a (AAC) format. But you then want to to add that song to another brand of media player which cannot play m4a files. The answer would be to convert the original file to MP3 (which is a universal format). However, iTunes' convert feature converts to the format used for importing from CD. So you would need to change the format to do that; from AAC Encoder (which you used to import the CD), to MP3 - using the Import Settings. (The Import Settings implies that it's from CD and makes no reference to converting existing files). Conversion creates a second file, it does not destroy the existing AAC file.

  • Changing import settings in itunes8

i used to be able to change my import settings in itunes8 by going "edit", "preferences", "advanced", and then there would be a drop down menu of options of importing.....wave, aac, mp3....but now it's no longer there.......i used apples itunes help, but as usual it's a complete waste of time.....it states that there is an "import settings" tab under "preferences", but my i tunes8 doesn't have that.....does anyone know how to change the import preferences???

got it, thanks.....i never understand why they change things for no apparent good reason....thx for the help....edtop40

  • Changing Import Settings in AAC Encoder, Custom

I changed my import settings to AAC Encoder, Custom, and set the bit rate to 160 kbps from the menu of options.  Now that it is set, I cannot change it.  It no longer shows a menu of bit options.  How can I change my Custom settings again?

Note, I use iTunes 7.5.  With this version I:
    iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing
    Import Using: AAC Encoder
    Settings: Custom
    --> New window
Stereo bitrate: [a selection from from 16 to 320]
    -->

  • Changing Import Settings

When changing the import settings to AIFF Encoder, and choosing CUSTOM, how do you get these settings to become fixed. When I close the window, the settings revert back to the default. I'm looking to import higher quality files, but can't sem to get ITUNES to "APPLY" the settings that I want to change. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance.....

TThere are no import settings. The application imports in whatever settings the media is.
