Change image resolution (not size)

I've created an avatar icon as a GIF in PE (Mac) 6.0. The forum I use this avatar on restricts the file size that will upload. I want to constrain the size of the image while lowering the resolution to get down to the threshold. Everything I do shrinks the physical size of the image along with the file size. Help?

You need to try file>save for web.
You set the pixel size--most forums will tell you the pixel size limits for an avatar.
Then reduce the number of colors until the file size is within limits.

  • Applescript to change image resolution using image events

Does anyone have an applescript to change image resolution using image events in OSX? I want to optimize my images for iWeb. I want to use a shell script in an applescript as a droplet or as a service in Automator. I'd like to leave the original intact.

For what type of use in iWeb are these photos intended? If it's for adding to a page (not a photo or album page) iWeb does a great job of optimizing. See my post in this topic: Re: Photo Resolution in iWeb.
You can optimize an entire site with an application like Web Site Maestro. It can reduce the site's size by up to 49%. Here's the settings available for the optimization:
    It's very effective.

  • Illustrator CS4 image resolution not downsizing

Hi, I'm new on this forum but hope someone can help.  Had a look around and can't find anyone else with this problem...
Just had AI CS4 put onto a new machine and I've imported my previous presets for saving PDFs for print.
In the "Save Adobe PDF" box, under "Compression", it's marked as it always was as Bicubic downsampling to 300ppi for images above 300ppi for colour and grayscale images (compression automatic (JPEG); image quality maximum).
However, it's not actually doing this.  The images are remaining at the resolution they have been dropped in at (some at 1000 dpi), making the file sizes huge.  I've had a play about with the settings and it's never changing the resolution.
Any help would be gratefully received!  Many thanks in advance,
    Chelle

No offense intended but the truth is you should be dropping the image files in at the resolution you intend to use them in the first place.
For most Offset projects that would be 255 ppi although some printers require as high as 355 ppi. Inever understood the latter spec though.
And for inkge that is way too big 200 ppi would be more thn enough.
I know this answer you want but it would be wise to change your workflow.
As for your actually question I have no cle as to what might be happening.

  • How to change image resolution in oracle forms.

    Hi Experts,
I am working on oracle forms 10g (Windows7 OS). Can we get the image resolution of an image item in oracle forms? Can we resize the image in terms of resolution?
I have a requirement where user can upload only 1280x720 size images. Either i have to validate the image resolution and give them a message saying 'Only 1280x720 size images are allowed' or simply i have to convert the image to be upload to 1280x720 size and save in the database. If someone could give the solution for the above problem that would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Pramod SR

    1. You need to resample.
    2. You can automate the process.
    1.
    Open one of the images.
Go to Image > Image Size
Set the units to Percent (100)
Change the resolution to 300 ppi (not cm!)
    Make sure Resample is checked
    2. automation
Test the above steps to make sure it works.
Record the steps as an action.
Make a droplet from the action.
Drag the folder with the images to the droplet.

  • Photos Export Options to Change Image Resolution

iPhoto used to let you export photos and change the resolution (setting pixel size, for example).  This is a function I used a lot to help my wife who is an artist  who needs to export images to post on eBay with the optimum image size.
I signed up for the Photos Beta to make sure this function was going to be available.  My recollection is that the first Beta version did have this feature in Photos.  I didn't check the later betas, but now that the production V1.0 is out, I discovered that this feature is not available.
Does anyone remember seeing this feature in the original beta software?  I was pretty sure it was present, but I might be mistaken.  It seems strange to remove features in the beta process.
Now I have to use Lightroom to do this.  LR handles this function easily, but it is a lot more complicated.
    David

I am still seeing the option to change the resolution in the "File > Export > Version" panel.
Have you searched all options, David?  I have to click the little disclosure arrow tin the Export panel to get to the "custom" option.

  • How  do I change image resolution to 72 ppi the length pixels going lower than 1920 pixels

    Hello,
I have an image that is 2550px x 3300px with a resolution of 300.  I would like to change this to a web jpeg with a resolution of 72ppi without  changed the length resolution to less than 1920. Everytime I try changing the resolution to 72 ppi it changes the size to less than the 1920 px size needed.
    Thank you,Jan

An image has some pixels real information these make up the bulk of any image format file size.   DPI is a resolution setting that defines what the size of a pixel is. Pixels have no size till there is a resolution specified. your  2550px x 3300px resolution can be set to 72 not a single pixel will change only the size of the image will.  A device that honors resolution will now render the image 35.4" x 45.8" instead of the old 300 setting which would render the image 8.5" x 11"  This is how Image size works when resample is not checked.  If you check Resampel the number of pixels an image has will change. You will wind up with a new  image with a different number of pixels interpolated the the old image that will no longer exist not a single pixel remains of the old image.  So if you open image size on your image you will see 8.5"x11" at 300DPI.
Check resample change to pixels and change 3300 to 1920  you will see Photoshop set the width to 1484 px. and the resolution be 300DPI.
Open the image dialog again. Un-check resample and you will see Photoshop change the width and height to  4.947"x6.4" now change the 300 DPI to 72 DPI you will see Photoshop change the width and height to 20.611" x 26.667" the pixesl will remain 1484px x 1920px. This is how image size works.

  • Reducing Resolution--not size--of photos

i am involved with animal rescue and send out a lot of photos.
i know how to resize them in iphoto but sometimes i just want to reduce the resolution, not the actual size of the photos, because a lot of people on my distribution list still use dialup and it takes them forever to download large attachments.
is it possible to reduce the resolution without the size in iphoto5 and, if so, how?
    thanx.

    Hi Jane,
You want to reduce the file size, which reduces the quality in order to email and for the web. iPhoto will not do that, but other graphic programs will.
If you don't a couple of extra steps, you can drag the photos to the desktop right from the library window. Select all, then use a little handy contextual menu item to batch resize. You can keep the same dimensions, but reduce the quality to make the file sizes smaller.

  • Photoshop CS3 Changes Image Resolution

    Hello!
Recently, Photoshop CS3 (installed on PC with Windows XP) has been changing the resolution of my images.  I'll create an image and save it (as anything... jpg or png). When I close and reopen the image, its values have changes.  For example:  a 10 x 5" images at a resoltion of 300 will somehow change to 100 x 50 at a low resolution of something like 6.  I'd like to know what causes this.

Chris, if what you claim were true, then I wouldn't have an issue.  In fact, what I described in my initial post happens.
I create a new image (we all follow the same process [Fle > New... select width, height, inches or pixels, resolution]) at a resolution of 300 for a 10x5” image.  Regardless of what I save the image as (jpg, png, etc.), if I close and reopen the image, the values have changed  The width always goes to 100" (I work in inches) and the resolution drops to 6, at the lowest that I’ve seen, up to 49.  Could a virus cause this?

  • How can I change image resolution ?

I want to make an application :
    1: user upload an image
2: he define 2 points, and the program was told the distance
between 2 points to be 5 inches
3: change the resolution of the image to be 125 pixels/inches
    any idea?thank you

I managed to write a VI that can reduce the resolution of bitmaps. It was tedious. I would still like a solution that can increase or decrease the resolution.

  • Merge to HDR Pro from Lightroom changing image resolution

Image resolution in PS from a RAW LR transfer is 300ppi but I notice today the final HDR image from a LR transfer of three files is 240ppi.  My preference in PS is set to 300ppi and I don't find a way to set a HDR resolution preference.  I want my final HDR image to be 300ppi - how do I get this?

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
Have you tried both reducing and increasing the Memory Usage in the Performance Prefences?
I tried to work on the exposition of the three photos, but that didn't work.
    What does this mean?
Are you using actual bracketed shots?

  • Is it possible to MANUALLY change Display Resolution (screen size) HELP!!

Forgive me if this has been covered already, but I have tried to look here and
    there for an answer
My screen for my iMac-G4 blew out long ago, I had a another screen (a Dell CRT-
flatscreen) hooked up and IT blew out a few days ago, I just bought an LCD
flat screen, but it needs a 1680 x 1050 resolution (WIDE screen(?)and my
iMac-G4 only goes to 1024 x 768 in the "Display" controls. So all my desktop
    images are "scrunched" or "stretched".
So is there a "MANUAL" way of configuring the screen size to a "standard"
size within this Mac? or do I need to find a standard size screen?
    . . . HELP!!!

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Apple limited the graphics cards in iMac G4s to the native resolution of the built-in LCD i.e:
    15" iMac G4 - 1024 x 768
    17" iMac G4 - 1440 x 900
    20" iMac G4 - 1680 x 1050.
Even when connecting a second display this could only mirror the internal at the same resolution. For the following iMac G4's it's possible to install a firmware hack to open up the full capabilities of the graphics cards:
    17" 800MHz
    17" 1GHz
    15" 1GHz
    17" 1.25GHz
    20" 1.25GHz
using an application called Screen Spanning Doctor. This is risky but I guess you haven't got much to lose at this point. I've only ever heard of one Mac user actually failing to do the process right though.
You can always use Firewire Target Disk Mode to recover you client's files to another Mac.
I'd be interested if SwitchResX works too. I only have external displays much smaller than my iMacs so can't test it from that perspective.
    cheers

  • Hello! How change image resolution (dpi/inch) with Automator!

I have some images to combine in a PDF. The resolution of images is different so the PDF has different size of pages.

Have you tried setting it up using "crop images" - you can specify the size.

  • Change border but not size

Sorry about the previous posting. I misspelled some words in the title.
    Hello,
I am writting a Swing application. I has jTextFields, etc. Within the program I want to change the border of the jTextFields between EtchedBorder and MatteBorder. When I switch from EtchedBorder to MatteBorder, by text area of the jTextFields gets smaller and when I switch from MatteBorder to EtchedBorder it gets larger. I assume that the size of the jTextField that I set includes the border. If the border gets bigger, the text part gets smaller.
Is there any easy way to turn this off? I want the text part to stay the same size reguardless of the border.
    Mike

Create a Border of the same size.
You can always use a [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/border.html]CompoundBorder to add an EmptyBorder to the smaller Border.

  • Changed screen resolution, not syncing with itunes

Yesterday I charged up my ipod on a different computer than normal. While charging I was looking at some pics and all was well. However, on reaching home, I discovered that the ipod has zzomed everything and hence I am not seeing all the apps at the same time - only about 3 at a time. This has also led to great difficulty in moving the apps around to open them up. It is still playing music and I have not lost any onfo, it is just very difficult and time-consuming to do it. When I hooked it up to my computer at home it is not being read as being there and hence it is not syncing either. I need help please!!

This is the zoom feature. You can learn about it in the manual ( including how to turn it off):
