Change Impact Analyzer

Oracle released Change Impact Analyzer with Peopletools 8.48. I haven't seen any documentation from any customers who are successfully using this product.
Has anybody used this tool? Have you found it useful? Was it difficult to become productive with the tool?
Any feedback others have would be appreciated.
Thanks!

  • Impact Analyzer stops in middle of a mapping

    Hi,
I've had a hard time to trust the impact analyzer as I migrated objects from v.9.0.2 to v.9.2 in a DWH that I was meeting for the first time.
I now just figured a mapping where Impact Analyzer at column level just stop tracking in the middle of a flow (on aggregate operator, after a split, and before a join)
I took care to refresh dependencies index but still won't the tracker give me any objects and transform down the flow.
Has anyone already had this problem ? (haven't found any on this forum)
    Thanks

I managed to isolate a disturbing behavior in a very small mapping:
A date attribute from a table goes through a filter, participates in the where clause then the result of a calculation goes in the fact of a cube.
Mapping validates, generates, deploys fine (and actually has been working in production for months)
    Dependencies index have been refreshed
Nevertheless, while tracking impact from that date attribute, impact analysis diagram stalls on this filter instead of leading up to the cube.
Is this a feature ? (because I'd typically would like to know what happens to which objects if I plan to modify/suppress the date attribute)
    Thanks

  • Differrence between BPCA and Change Impact Testing in HP Quality Center?

    Hi All,
Can some one help us with the differences between change impact analyser in SAP TAO and change impact testing in
    HP quality center.
Please share some process documents regarding the same.
    Regards,
    Ujwal Kandimalla

    Hi Ujwal,
The Business Process Change Analyser in Solution Manager compares a technical BOM (TBOM) that is maintained within a solution, or project, against a transport order that is maintained within a managed system.  The TBOM is a listing of all technical objects, for example tables, programs etc, that are used by the managed system. BPCA checks the contents of the transport order against the TBOM. BPCA then highlights the objects in the TBOM that will be impacted when you import the transport order into production.  From the BPCA you can directly create a Test Plan and select the test cases that will test the objects that will change.
SAP TAO inspects transactions to determine the technical information required to generate an automated test.  TAO then creates scripting for HP Quick Test Pro test cases and can create business components in HP Quality Center that can be used to compose business process tests.
HP Change Impact Testing allows you to import changes from the SAP correction and transport system, analyse and identify the impact of changes, assess their risk and recommend which business processes to test.
There are some good presentations about BPCA and TAO and this one could give you the back ground info to the SAP solution: https://websmp104.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000988132011E
    Hope this helps,

  • BW Development Logical Name Change Impact

    Hi,
what is going to be the impact on our BW system (extraction / modelling / reporting) if we change the BW logical name.
Example:- BW Development current logical name is BWCL005
    New Name change to BW005.
    Can you please help
    Regards
    Rajiv

some of the impacts i can comment on are as above.
    1. wherever u have hardcoded logical name, there u have to modify to new name.
    2. regarding the RFC connection with other servers make sure there is there is 2 way communication with the every server, this is basically a BASIS task and needs to confirm with great care.
    hope it helps.
kindly assign the points if it helps.

  • Quota Warning message time change Impact

Currently its set to default at 1:00a.  Some high profile users have compalined that these alerts wake them up at night..... cos they sleep with their phones.  I have been asked to change the time of these warning.  Just wondering if there
will a huge impact .... I am thinking to change this time to 11:30a ?
    thank you

Normally, there will be little impact.  However, to run it in the middle of the business day as you propose may cause it to take a while to complete, and could impact server operations otherwise.  Would 6:00 AM or 10:00 PM work better?

  • HFM-Metadata changes -impact on Database.

    Hello Experts & Gurus,
    1)  I want to understand the impact of changes in MetaData (Members of Dimensions like Scenario, Year, Period....) on the size of database in HFM.
    2) If Metadata changes can result in creating new tables or cubes, can we find out such new tables or cubes which were created and delete them to take back the Database to Normal Stage.
    Thanks in Advance....

    Hello Erich,
    Thanks for your reply.
We have did some changes to MetaData and uploaded into production. We had some serious issues with the performance of the Application.
We revoked the MetaData but still we have problems with Application.
What strange we have observed is size of Data, which has increased three folds than previous, I am of opinion that change in MetaData might of created new cubes or tables and increased the size.
Please correct me if I am wrong and let me know your opinion what might have increased the data base size..
    Thanks & Regards.

  • Variable hierarchy display not changed (BEx analyzer)

    Hi
We have a BEx query, in which a drilldown characteristic is displayed as an hierarchy
    Hierarchy display is active
    Selected hierarchy:
    Name - constant
    Version - customer exit variable
Customer exit calculates version from manual input variable.
We need to view the report in BEx Analyzer.
When the query is opened, we select manual input variables and the hierarcy's version is set correctly.
The issue is that when we change manual input variables at runtime, the data is refreshed,
but hierarchy display is not changed. The selected hierarchy's version remains unchanged.
In order to change hierarchy display, we need to open characteristic properties and change the selected hierarchy manually
or we need to reopen the query and provide another manual input variables.
Our system version is 7.01 patch level 9
Is there any way to fix this problem
    Or some workaroud?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Michael, thank you for reply.
But I don't see how these notes may help me with my problem.
    1753959 - I don't get a short dump
1745472, 1751321 - system displays all queried nodes, the problem is that if I input another variable, hierarchy version variable is calculated via user-exit properly (I see it in ABAP debugger), but displayed hierarchy has version, which was set when I opened query initially.
1717433 - nodes are returned with non-empty result. I can see that data is refreshed, hierarchy version is requested correctly, but is displayed incorrectly. We can see, for example, new hierarchy leaves, but in "n/a" node.
I tried to run the same report on system with version 7.01, patch level 12 and get the same behaviour.
My problem is similar to that described in notes 993151, 957219, but our system patch level is already higher.

  • Hyperion servers password changes impact ?

    Hi all,
We have Hyperion tools on distributed enviornment.
As part of process, we are supposed to change the server Account Administrator password. We have used the same account across servers during configuration of Hyperion products.
Will changing of password of Administrator account have any impact?
Also, changing passwords for database/web server accounts which were used during configuration have any impact?
    Thanks for looking into this.

Thanks John for your response, I meant the Windows account which was used for installation.
    JohnGoodwin wrote:
Are you talking about the windows account you used to install hyperion? if so it depends where the password has been used if it is just for the install then you should be alright. What do you mean by, 'depends where the password has been used'. Which all places can windows account be used during configuration?

  • System Timezone and User Timezone change - impacts

    Hi Folks,
My question is: Are there any technical impacts on manually changing the System Time Zone and user Time Zone settings when the system is already in production, such as bad synchonization or any other problem?
    Thank you all.
    Daniel

    Hi,
In this case you can create the one more user status as 40 EFG 10 40 1 1and restrict this status by authorisation key.
provide this status authorization to responsible person not for all the users. If SO deletes the responsible person changes the status from XYZ to EFG and then to ABC, from here you can follow regular process. Finally the WBSE status remains
    as XYZ.

  • Time change impact?

I recently noticed that my images needed to have 9 hours added to the capture time in order to have the correct time in the metadata. I added 9 hours to the capture time via Lightrooms option. However, after noticing that some of the buildings with clocks were still 1 hour ahead of the metadata capture time I made a note to add an additional hour to the capture time so everything would be in sync. Today, the first day of the change back to standard time, I looked at the clock images and the capture time in the metadata and noticed the images are now 2 hours behind the actual time shown on the clocks. Did the change to standard time, which is automatic on my computer somehow impact the capture time in my metadata also?
    Don

LR does some funky things about time, and for some reason the time shown is impacted by the current computer time.
They're well aware of all the date/time issues, we're just going to have to wait for them to get fixed in a future version.

  • WAN MTU change: impact on applications?

Has anyone made an in-production MTU change to their WAN?  If so, how have the applications been impacted?
Our DMVPN (enterprise site-to-site) MTU is currently set to 1400 bytes, and we're looking at dropping it by a few more.  I know that new connections established after the change will figure out the new MTU size using the usual MSS/PMTUD methods.  I'm being asked to estimate the impact on live communications though.  I know that some apps send max-MTU packets with the DF bit set.  Once we change the MTU, I expect the router to drop those packets and send an ICMP error back.  The X factor is how the individual apps will handle that in mid-stream: will they adapt on the fly?  Reset the connection and try again?  Or just sit down and cry until rebooted by a sysadmin?  I recognize that some apps may be different, I'm just looking to get an overall picture.

My understanding is, if the source gets the ICMP fragmentation message it will reduce the size of all newly sent packets for that flow.  As far as I know, once packet size is reduced, that flow will never increase the size.
I also recall older fragmentation left the sender to try various sized packets until fragmentation no longer needed.  I think newer ICMP implementations will also include what the size needs to be reduced to.  If this is correct, the former would cause more of a performance hit until the correct MTU was found.
From personal experience, I've noticed TCP flows that start up with a too large MTU take a noticable performance hit, at least initially, than starting with a non-fragmenting size (such as can be provided by the ip tcp adjust-mss command).  NB: this observation is from several years ago, although the adjust command is still very, very useful for TCP start up where you expect a MTU size drop (and you can allow for that).
Flows should adapt. Have had the situation where primary path across dedicated WAN link, normal MTU supported, but fail over was via VPN tunnel, with reduced MTU.
    PS:
What does cause problems is when source doesn't receive ICMP message.  This is espeically annoying when the MTU only differs by a few bytes, like PPoE or incorrect allowance for MPLS tags.  Most packets get through, some don't.
Another option is to allow intermediate system to fragment packets, but that can overload the device doing the fragmentation and actually uses extra bandwidth as packet headers are replicated during fragmentation.

  • Vendor tax id change impacting 1099 reporting

    Hi
Our business creates new vendors when there is a tax id change for the same vendor because they want the 1099 report to provide the tax id number associated with a certain payment document in 1099 report.
This causes duplicate vendor numbers to be created for the SAME vendor. They truly do not want to be creating duplicate vendors and so
would like to know how they can get 1099 report to provide the tax ids associated with a certain payment.
How do the other companies handle this? What do you do when a certain vendor has had a TAX ID change?
    Thanks
    Depa

Ok, I Found it. We have to customize it. Taxes are reported at Operating Unit level only.

  • Selection Screen Change & Impact on background scheduled reports

    Hi,
I have modified the selection screen of a report program by adding additional selection criteria. This report is background scheduled and runs several times with different variants in a day. I am worried that the background jobs may fail in Production if the latest changes are moved. But I think, background jobs will not fails unless the selection criteria that are part of variants that used in the background jobs not modified. But not sure. I just want to make sure, I am doing correct thing.
Please let me know your thoughts. Appreciate your help!
    Thanks,

    I don't think so.
But of course you will have to update the variants to reflect the new selections.

  • Source system changes impact on BI system

    Hi All,
I would like to know is there any work around if source system connected with BI changes. In our environment BWQy 100 is connecte with ECCQ1 100, now bais team needs to copy ECCQ1 100 to ECC2 Q100 and free ECCQ1 for some reason. And asking BW team use ECCQ2 as source system in future.
In this case we need to create new transformations and lot of work involved. Is there any work around to avoid creating transformations for new ECCQ2 system (like SID renaming etc).
Please adivise here how to handle this situation with minimun damage to system, for sure we can't use any more ECCQ1.
