Change in Mountain Lion?

Something has happened (presumably) in Mountain Lion where things are now sliding into and off of the page side to side (it didn't used to be fancy like this before) and I can no longer switch from drafting an email to searching emails... (Once I'm drafting an email I can no long access other pages in MacMail. Everything else is greyed out and clicking on them will not change it. I can also not minimize the email draft, etc.)
This latter feature doesn't seem like a feature Apple would want to take away but I can't find any information on it and I can't figure out where I would adjust it.
Can anyone help me figure out how to fix it? Is seems like they both arrived at the same time so I'm grouping them the same.

  • Why can't I scan with Printer MX 850 to my IMac since I changed to Mountain Lion?

Hi! I have a Cannon MX850 printer/scanner. Used to be able to scan anything into .pdf to my IMac, but since I changed to Mountain Lion, nothing works. Has anyone solved this problem? Thanks in advance.

There is a printer driver and ICA scanner driver available from Apple, as per this article. So with the MX connected to the Mac via USB, both drivers should be downloaded from Apple and you should then see a Print and a Scan entry under the same icon in Print & Scan. Do you only have the printer icon in Print & Scan?
Also, for future reference, this is the Lion forum so please use the Mountain Lion forum.

  • ICal Notification Change in Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, the only option I have once a notification pops up is to "Snooze" where previously there were many choices, i.e. remind in 1 hr., 1 day, 1 week, etc. I would like to have the old style back. Is there a way to change this?

OK, let's try this. Download this tool,
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
run it, hit the 'copy to clipboard' button at the bottom of the window, then paste the clipboard in a post here (i.e., hit 'reply' to this post and 'command-v' on your keyboard).

  • I can not change background mountain lion from the Finder

    Hi, my problem is:
when I boot the pc I can change screen-> right click-> change desktop background.
But later if I want to change it again this does not answer. If I try twice changes the background
I do not know if the problem is my computer or failure of mountain lion. In Lion or Snow didn´t happen.

Are you using an external display? I've had this happen with an external display. I reset PRAM and all was sell.

  • Apple forcing change to Mountain Lion by producing poor updates for other OS versions?

I've been holding off on 10.7.5 and I don't want to go to Mountain Lion. I wonder if Apple really cares about supporting the older OS versions by producing updates that don't result in all the apparent problems people are facing with the 10.7.5 update for example. Not even considering the issues that many seem to be having with ML upgrades.

It's important to remember that these forums are for people with problems, and as such, They are not accurate indicators of real world issues.
Millions of people are using Lion and Mountain Lion with no issues, they won't be using these forums.
Personally, I've used and installed Lion and Mountain Lion on three different Macs in my household, MacMini 3.1, MacBook Pro 3.1, and a MacBook Air 1.1 (limited to Lion), and have had no serious problems with them.
The best course of action is to always have a backup of your current partition before upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion. In fact, you should have a backup even if you're not planning on upgrading.
Personally, I use Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper for backup purposes on lieu of Time Machine. I like the advantage of having a cloned, bootable partition.
Also, IMHO, Mountain Lion is an improvement over Lion. It smoothed out the rough edges of Lion.
Lion is no longer available from the App Store unless you phone Apple at 1-800-My-Apple to get an autorization code. But, since you don't need Lion to upgrade to Mountain Lion, I'd recommend skipping Lion, if you can.

  • How to block Screensaver changes in Mountain Lion

Is there a way to block a user from changing the Screensave settings.
As it is now a user can change the time for when the screensaver should start.
Also in the Security settings a user can remove tzhe check regading when password would be required or just change it to 4 Hours instead of directly.
These setting does not require the use of the "Lock" and the root password. And deploying this in an Enterprise environment is a No-Go.
So, is there a good solution for this on Mac?
    /Mats/

    Hi Linc,
This means that I can block out the "Start after" setting in Screensaver settings and the checkbox for "Require password" and the pulldown option in the Security settings?
At the moment we don't have a OS X Server in our net but if this would solve the problem and that the Mac's that would come in on the Windows Domain would be able to follow the security options, an added server would be no problem.
I noticed in the description that I can only send URL's to the Mac users and then hope they will open this URL and the settings would be applied.  If they would ignore the URL the settings would still be open ?  or do I have another option to push these changes onto the Mac's.    at the moment we're just having a small amount of Mac's that might be deployed... depending on if issues like this could be handled...  But after some time there might be quite a few more Mac's comming in. Since the Administrators here has very limited Apple/ OS X know how and also is a prety small team they're afraid of having to do alot of manual konfigurations on each and every Mac...  So, I have to avoid such a situation.

  • Launching apps make screen temperature tone change in Mountain Lion, and kernel panics to

I have a mid-2010 MBP. After installing ML I began experiencing kernel panics after a day or so. The system kept rebooting and couldn't stay on for longer than 2 minutes. It made the loud beeps indicating RAM issues, and the screen sometimes flashed weirdly. I could boot from an external clone, so the problem was the hard drive in the end.
I installed a new SSD (Samsung 830) and 8GB of RAM from Kingston. Everything went fine for a day, them kernel panics started again, with those beeps, 3 beeps and other beeps at different frequencies. I think this time was a problem with the new RAM as switching to the old ones let's the computer work fine.
Installing the old ones again worked fine, but moving the computer makes it freeze, so they're probably defective. When it booted, though, I noticed a strange issue, which is the topic of this question:
Launching apps like Byword, Espresso or AppZapper made the color temperature change for, an hot to a cold tone. Quitting returned it to normal. Other apps, like apple's or Reeder worked fine. Launching these after one of the "cold" ones didn't restore it to normal. Rebooting sometimes solved the issue, it's not a consistent problem. Booting from an external clone of the current setup or an old one doesn't show the issue
With the old original RAM this is less evident, but there's still a slight change with the said apps.
I should try again with the clone to see if the change is slight and I didn't notice it, it may alway have been there from the start actually.
Could it be a video card problem as the Apple Support guy told me? Am I this unlucky and my Kac is falling apart all the way?
There is to say that I cannot afford to send it to Apple to check (which would take a couple of weeks) for a couple of months, as I need the computer.
    Have anyone seen this too?
    Thanks

  • AFP Authentication Changes in Mountain Lion??

Here is the senario.  I have a mac mini server (running regular ML) which houses my iTunes Library.  I have two other macs which access their own library files on the mini via file sharing using the same admin user authentication.  This has worked well up until I upgraded to ML when I started receiveing the following error:
"file server will not allow any additional users to log on"
I never had this issue before upgrading.
I have checked the com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist file for the maxConnections and maxGuests keys both are set to 10.  I have tried reboots without much luck.  Meaning it might work initially, but eventually either my computer or my wife's will get booted off.  I had thought of creating two adim users apart form the main server user, but the problem is the permission on the itunes folder that contains all the data is set to the server user, and I don't want to screw up the permission.
Should I concede and buy ML server, or is this overkill for my situation.  I should mention I also do TM backups form all the computers to a Drobo which is connected to the MacMini.
Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance guys!!

Same here. I posted a similar question without response, so it must be unusual. Typically the more regular posters with offer ideas.
I have an iMac which my othe rmacs back up to a drive attached to it, they are all erroring for time machine and trying to connect for sharing tells me to many user connected and try again later. No one else is connected. Rebooting the iMac does nto help and its utterly random, the next day it might work perfectly for two days then suddenly go wrong again.

  • Language change on Mountain Lion interface

    Hi all,
This problem has been happening for a while and I have no idea why.
Sometimes when I'm prompted to enter an administrative password

  • Mountain Lion Permissions changes

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion and am having some problems with permissions that I haven't run across before.
I took a screen shot that was deposited on my desktop as a png.
The permissions on the screenshot png while on the desktop were "you can read & write".
When I dragged the screenshot png to the finder I got a pop up that said "the screenshot ....can't be moved because macintosh hd can't be modified" with an "authenticate" button on the bottom of the popup screen.
When I typed in my password the png was deposited on the finder screen.
When I went to "get info" I found the permissions had changed to "you have custom access" from "you can read and write".
Then when I tried to move the png from the finder to the trash I got a popup that said "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this".
Any ideas as to what happened and what I can do so I don't have to keep typing in my password?
    Thanks for your help,
    Joim

    Hi Linc,
    Thanks for the information.
Apparently this was a change in Mountain Lion from Lion  that I missed.
I've always been able to drag/drop files, etc. that I created onto the "Macintosh HD" screen with no problem and work with them, delete them or attach them to an email document without having to use my password.  It'll take a bit of getting used to but I can manage.
Can you enlighten me as to the reason for this change?
Once again, thanks for your help,

  • How do I use a cups printer on a linux machine from mountain lion

I have always used a linux cups printer on my network from my iMac. You could even browse the printer when looking for it. Worked fine.
Now in the updated Mountain Lion (10.8.2) is cannot see the remote printer anymore.
If I create the printer using cups through the web interface on my iMac, which is conected to the linux server, I can create teh printer, and print a test page on this printer on the linux server! Great.
But I cannot pick the printer from a list from any application on my Mac. It is as if it does not exist (but I can print a testpage though ...).
This a a real bad change in Mountain Lion. I consider to go back to Lion (10.7).
Isn't there any way to get this working or do I realy need to downgrade to 10.7
    Thanks for any hints!

    Hi VikingOSX and Grant Bennet-Alder.
Thanks for the replies, but unfortunately, they do not work.
The solutions you suggest are all OK for 10.7.x (and I have used them before), but these steps do nothing in 10.8.2. No difference at all.
I have also tried various other suggestions I found on the web and in this forum, such as:
    cupsctl BrowseRemoteProtocols=cups
    cupsctl BrowseProtocols='"cups dnssd"'
They all seems to work (and I needed them before in 10.7.x), but they don't seem to help any more in 10.8.2
To illustrate the problem, I have tested the following 4 cases (in this particular order) on iMac 10.8.2 through CUPS web browser leding to teh following (copied text from CUPS web interface):
    Step 1:
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
    Driver:                    Local Raw Printer (grayscale)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=unknown
    Jobs
▼ ID ▼          Name          User          Size          Pages          State          Control
    EPSONserver-23           Unknown           Withheld           1k           1            processing since Sat Oct 6 14:59:57 2012 "Printing page 1, 85%"
    Result step 1:
Test page: via CUPS web browser, OK. works just fine, full color and everything looks just fine
Printer in printer list: No, installed printer not available in OSX.
Can print from application: No, printer not in printer list. Cannot select printer.
    Step 2:
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
Driver:                    EPSON SP R285 Series (color, 2-sided printing)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=na_letter_8.5x11in sides=one-sided
    Jobs
▼ ID ▼          Name          User          Size          Pages          State          Control
EPSONserver-24           Unknown           Withheld           1k           Unknown            stopped "Filter failed"
    Result step 2:
Test page: via CUPS web browser: NO. "Filter failed"
    Printer in printer list: YES
Can print from application: NO, "Filter failed".
    Step 3:
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
Driver:          Generic PostScript Printer (color, 2-sided printing)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=na_letter_8.5x11in sides=one-sided Jobs
    Result step 3:
Test page: via CUPS web browser: low resolution/bad quality, black and white test page
Printer in printer list: YES, it remained in printer list when changed from step 2 to step 3.
Can print from application: Yes, but bad quality, not useful at all.
Step 4 = change settings back to step 1 :
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
    Driver:                    Local Raw Printer (grayscale)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=unknown
    Result step 4:
Test page: via CUPS web browser: OK. works just fine, full color and everything looks just fine
Printer in printer list: it disappeared from the printer list at the moment the changes back from step 3 to step 1 were activated.
Can print from application: No, printer not in printer list. Cannot select printer.
    Overall conclusion:
The printer appears in the printer list only when it is a postscript printer or using manufacturer drivers (i.e epson drivers). It does NOT appear when using a RAW printer (but works fine printing test pages through the CUPS web interface).
10.8.2. seems to have a serious bug.
Any help? Or is downgrading to 10.7 my only solution?

  • Drive no longer available as TM target in Mountain Lion

With Lion, I had an external drive attached to my Mac Mini Server and used it as a network Time Machine target to backup my laptop.  I just upgraded my Mac Mini Server to Mountain Lion with the Server upgrade and now the drive no longer shows up as a target.
I read through all pages at http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html, reformatted the drive, double-check File Sharing permissions, and it still doesn't show up. It mounts just fine on the client laptop through Finder.  Has something changed in Mountain Lion?

Sounds like the same problem I'm having.  My external drive mounts just fine on my Lion-based machines, but on my Mountain Lion machine it not only will not mount, but when I try to Repair in Disk Utility it tells me:
"Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
Since it mounts fine on my Lion machines, I know there's nothing wrong with the physical disk or the filesystem, so I'm not going to the trouble of reformatting and restoring.  Instead I think I'll just "upgrade" back to Lion.
I'm having several other usability issues with Mountain Lion as well.  What gives with this OS, Apple??

  • Can't connect wirelessly HP Photosmart C4780 to MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.

    Hi!
Didn't know exactly where to direct this question in the Apple Community so I chose Airport.  To everyone, thanks in advance.
I’m really desperate. I’m a big Apple fan.  I have two Apple MacBook Pro laptops with Mountain Lion software.  I also have an Apple Airport Extreme.  My HP Photosmart C4780 printer was also purchased from Apple.  Anyway, my Internet service is AT&T.  AT&T just upgraded my service with a new modem/router (AT&T U-Verse).  Prior to the conversion, my wireless printer connection was working perfectly.
Now can’t print wirelessly. For your information, everything is connected via Wi-Fi. The AT&T technician stated that I no longer needed my Apple Airport Extreme, so it was removed.  Naturally, after the tech leaves, we find out the HP printer wirelessly no longer works.  Thinking that removing Airport Extreme may have been the problem, I reconnected it to the AT&T modem/router, however no change.
This appears to be an HP printer problem.  I went to HP community support with the information below but I have received no solutions outside of buying a new printer.
“Ran the HP wireless network test report and it states that HP printer can’t find wireless router and to verify that the HP printer network name (SSID) matches the wireless router network name (SSID) exactly.  The Diagnostic Summary in brief:  Wireless On & Working & Security – Pass; Network Name (SSID) Found – Fail. Nothing else under diagnostic summary ran.  Under Configuration Summary:  It shows old SSID name and Mac Hardware Address but no IP Address.
Next ran the Network Configuration Page and everything is enabled except the 802.11 Wireless.  It shows status – disconnected.  Under general information it states the following: Network status  - Offline; Active Connection Type - None; URL(s) for Embedded Web Server – http://0.0.0.0.”
To be straightforward, I’m no computer tech so I don’t know what this means or where to find.  The AT&T tech provided me the new SSID Name and a wireless key number but that’s it. Also I uninstalled and reinstalled via USB. The HP message states can’t find router. At this point, I’ve tried everything to reconfigure without success. If I need to make these changes via Airport Extreme Utility 6.0 not easy to find not that I know what I’m doing.
Most importantly if I ever get wireless working again, do I still need Airport Extreme connection or is the AT&T U-Verse modem/router sufficient?
Any direction or help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you for listening.

Thank you for your prompt response.  I'll be honest I'm a retiree and a newbie to all of this stuff. I don't even know how to do a thread. (Embarassing) This is my first ever contact with the Apple Community so I'm slowly trying to figure this out as well.
As to your thread request, I'm assuming you want to read my post with HP.  Not knowing how to thread, I've copied it below.

Re: Can't connect wirelessly HP Photosmart C4780 to MacBook Pro OSX  10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
I finally figured it out! (Sorry that I'm replying to my own posts btw, but I want to post the solution for anybody else with the SigmaplusEOL1 problem). If you have the SigmaplusEOL1 as your SSID when you  print the "Wireless Network Test Report", you do NOT need to return it (I know that's hassle for people).  To fix the problem, follow these steps.
    1) Unplug your printer.
    2) Go to your router's IP address (like 192.168.1.1 or whatever it is for your router).
    3) Change the SSID of your wirelss network to "SigmaplusEOL1".
    4) For the Security option for your wireless network select none (so that a password is not required to access your wireless network).
    5) Power your printer back on and reprint "Wireless Network Test Repor". It should say "No problem found..."
    6) The report should also have a the IP Address of the printer (under Configuration Summary at the bottom). Type that IP Address in your browser to get to the printer's settings page.
    7) Click the "Network" Tab at the top.
    8) Under the "Connections" header in the left pane, click "Wireless (802.11).
    9) Click "Start Wizard" at the bottom right.
    10) In the wizard, change the SSID and encryption (wep or wpsk) password to whatever you want your wireless network to be. So probably whatever it started out as before you changed the SSID to SigmaplusEOL1
    11) Click "Finish" at the end. The page will probably try to keep loading but it won't because you changed the network settings of the printer. Just ignore that
    12) Go back to your router's IP address and change the SSID and encryption password to whatever you changed the printer's SSID and password to.
13). Reprint the Wireless Network Test Report. It should say the SSID is the same as your wireless, and everything is good.
That's it. You should be good to go now.
Re: Can't connect wirelessly HP Photosmart C4780 to MacBook Pro OSX  10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
Thank you for your prompt response.  This has been a totally frustrating experience.  I’ve spent at least 8 hours trying to fix this.  My HP problems and your initial steps were identical to mine.  I am by no means a tech person and my computer tech knowledge is minimal.  However I followed your steps to the best of my ability.
I did get the SigmaplusEOL1 message.  I was able to get to Step 6 where the wireless network test report now reads – “HP printer settings do not match your wireless router settings.”  So I guess this is a step in the right direction.  However unfortunately the Configuration summary message for the IP Address reads – “Not Applicable”.  (Note: changing SigmaplusEOL1 to network name knocked out my Internet access.  Had to switch back to regular network name to regain access.)
I’m at a loss as to what to do next.   Without the IP Address is it possible to move forward?  As I stated earlier, I’m not a tech person.  As to your steps 7, 8 and 9, I can’t find them on my computer or maybe I’m looking in the wrong places.  In System Preferences - Network, I have none of these steps.  If you’re referring to Airport Utility, with the changes in Mountain Lion, these steps are no longer there. If you’re talking about Safari, Firefox or HP, now I’m really lost.
Finally, I don’t know if you can answer this or not.  If I ever get wireless working, do I still need Airport Extreme or is the AT&T U-Verse modem/router sufficient?
Again thank you for your time and patience.
Re: Can't connect wirelessly HP Photosmart C4780 to MacBook Pro OSX  10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
Unfortunately I am unable to offer any further advice as I only followed the instructions listed on the other page.
Finally, as to having WEP enabled, I don't know.  Don't even know where to look.  The best that I could determine is that my security is WPA/WPA2 Personal.
I'm truly sorry about all of this.  Thank you for your time and patience.  After reading all of this and you change your mind, I would understand.

I use MacBook Pro 13", 2011 edition. Since I installed Mountain Lion, my MBP's battery life drop from 7+ hours to roughly 5 hours overnight. Worse still, it freezes about once a day. Does anybody else experience this? Got tips to troubleshoot these issues?

I initially had similar issues with Mountain Lion, however I thought it was isolated to my configuration. I did make some adjustments using the command line power management tool and the difference are night and day. I never thought it amy have been a change in Mountain Lion. In any case, given the prevalence of this, I created a blog listing the changes I made and explaining it for those with increased interest.
