How to change the instance number from 00 to 01?

How to change Instance Number of an existing 4.6C System ?

My customer has DEV and QAS systems running in separated boxes and having the same instance number of 00. Now I'm consolidating these two SIDs into a new box. So, I need to change the instance number of one of them.
I found note 127351 on how to do this but noticed that the note only applies up to release 4.0B. Not sure if it still is valid for 4.6C.
I'd appreciate your help on how to do this.

Hi Satid,
if you want to move 2 systems of 2 boxes to 1 box, you have to copy at least one system anyway and therefore need to change the hostname of that system.
If you are doing this, this is a homogenious systemcopy which could be run with R3setup as described in the SAP documentation. I'm using an bit easier approach with more or less just savlib/rstlib - if you are interested, I could mail this to you.
With a homogenious systemcopy or my approach you have to "re-decide" for the instance number - so this is just no problem at all.

How to change instance number on new SSM

Hi,
I just finished installing SSM4 on RHEL4/Oracle.
In sapinst I missed changing the default central instance number from 01 (I intended to make it 60).
Is there a procedure to change the instance number (SAPSYSTEM in profiles)?

I have to change the instance number of an ABAP+Java system. Is there a seperate procedure to change the system number of the J2EE instance?

Hi
You can change the System No. in Java thru configtool. Make sure you also change the Port Nos using the System No. and InstanceProfileName<Sys No.>.
Also changes have to be made in the Instance.Properties file

J2EE start fails after changing the instance-number

Hi,
we installed a SCS with instance number 41. After a few weeks it was necessary to change it to 44. We changed all property-files and the profiles.
The SCS started fine, but the J2EE-Server failed starting.
In dev_server0 is still a line with the former port 3241:

Also, you have max heap specified twice, make sure this is only specified once by taking it out of the body of the java parameters. It can cause other problems being in there twice.

Azure instance number changes gives wrong status to the java tomcat app

The documentation of microsoft says ( http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2011/01/04/responding-to-role-topology-changes/ )
you receive a changing and a changed event when the instance number is changed.
In real live i see a changing, a changed and a stopping event.
After that my java application doesn't run the contextDestroyed, but does run the contextInitialized again.
I don't call the cancel methode on the changing event. So a stopping event is unexpected.
So why does i receive a stopping event? Is this a bug? And while i received a stopping event the server didn't preform a reboot, but my java app contextInitialized is called again? So why is that?
Any inside is appreciated?

When you received the onstopping event, the cloud service ILB could stop dispatch the request to this instance. And your instance may have 5 min to handler the uncompleted processor. And I wondered know how to code in your onstop() method in your project.
If your onstop method is canceled, you maybe not receive the instance reboot.

Instance Number changing

Hi All,
We have made the BW sandbox with the backup of production instance 00, now sandbox have got the same instance as production but sandbox already contains R/3 instance 00 running, Now how to change the BW instance to 02 in sandbox and where are the changes to be made to make BW up and running in sandbox...

we have changed the instance number in Instance, star and in deafult profile changed the http port , msg server port to the instance specific.

How can I correlate an Java instance number with a server id?

I have 6 Web App Server running ABAP and the JAVA stacks. I can log into the Central Instance server and run /usr/sap/<SID>DVEBMSG00/j2ee/configtool/configtool.sh and bring up the GUI interface to "see" all the instances and their variables. I don't see an easy way to trace back the Java INSTANCE to the physical server's hostname.
Is there a central repository to correlate a Web App Server Java instance number to the actual hostid/hostname of the target server? I realize I can log into each Web App Server and look at the /usr/sap/<SID>D00/j2ee/cluster/instance.properties and find the Instance number, but I was wondering if this information was held in the SAP Central instance or SAP Database somewhere.

The instance ID used for the JAVA cluster is generated at installation time, and -amongst other things- takes into account the time it was generated. We installed two instances in parallel (on different hosts) and ended up with almost the same instance ID.
Because this can be very confusing, we asked SAP if this was changable - in theory it is only an ID which could be changed as long as it is updated on all places the identifier is stored - but SAP indicated that that is not possible, nor supported. We ended up with a diagram of the system architecture with all the identifiers on our desk.
Note that in the config tool - all instances are displayed with their system instance number. If you were to install a new system it might be usefull to install all instances with different instance numbers so you and distinguish more easily between them.

You can find the port number by your instance number as follows:
There is a general format for the port number like you have mentioned.
For 00 instance the port number is 50000.
The general format for the port number goes like this:
5<instance_no>00
If your instance number is 01 then the port number would be 50100.
It depends on the installation type which you perform.
You can also change the instance number during the installation but normally you dont do this.
If you have many components or units installed on your system you may have more than one instance in that case it may go like this 00, 01, 02....accordingly port number will be 50000, 50100, 50200...resp.

Substitute Function in Excel: Replace text with instance number in BO

Hi,
I have a column where data is merged from three other columns each text separated by "-". Ex: Services - Phoneline - New Customer.
What I wanted to do is to just get the last text which is "New Customer" separated. I used "Length(<columnValue>)-Length(Replace(<columnValue),"-",""))" to get the number of instances of "-" in the text as it varies from 1 to 3.
I use to do it in excel using substitute function where I have the facillity to use the character instance number. I don't know how to do this in Business objects.

I suspect that the problem has to do with either a mismatch in spacing or the presence of non-breaking spaces (HTML &nbsp) or other non-printing characters, notwithstanding your efforts to eliminate that possibility with your copy-and-paste experiments.

Wrong port (5xx00) after migration to other instance-number...

On a solution manager system (7.01) someone have migrated to a different instance-number (from 72 to 4)...
But the port for some services is the old one (57200 not 50400)...
The hostname in the URL is wrong too (the old ones)...
i.e. when we click J2EE-Config in solman_setup it doesnt work....we must change the port and host in URL manually..
Unfortunetly we don't make the migration by our own, so we must solve the problem without further infos about the migration...
Is there a central point, where we can change the port or hostname (NWA or Visual Admin) ?
Or is there a point where i can search for the still wrong instance-number in the J2EE-Config ?
In the Visual-Admin the HTTP Provider Port is on the right value (50400)...

Shadow instance number doubled on host

Hello together,
I need help with the following scenario.
I have running two ehp4 upgrade on the same host. And now during preprocessing i found
out the both are running with the same shadow instance sys number. I don't how this could
happen, but now the second shadow instance is not comming up.
Both are running wir DVEBMGS06. Upgrade1 already reched spdd. The second wants to schedule
job in shadow instsance, but this is not up. How i can change the shadow instance system number?

I can suggest you to change the shadow system number and check as I am not sure whether this would work.
Chage the instance number of the shadow instance in the file <DIR_PUT>/bin/R3ENV.LST. Entry:
"<No.>" # SHD instance number (line 47) and also make sure that system number is not present in any shadow instance profile.
Has DVEBMGS06 got created for the not running shadow instance??? If yes then do u have any files in that directory.
NOTE : I am suggesting you only a possibility and not the solution. Please take a backup of all files before making any changes.

Initially I had database instance # equal to node number.
But after series of panics and reboots node[123] got instances shifted, while node4 stays the same.
I tried "crsctl stop crs" and nodes shutdown but it does not help.
How can I fix it?

This is expected. When you use server_pools and policy managed databases, the instance number can change on restart. If you want a static number, you can pin the nodes with crsctl pin css -n nodename

Duplicate instance number from dba_hist_database_instance

We have a 3 node RAC and the instance names are rcmp1, rcmp2 and rcmp3 but when we query dba_hist_database_instance it shows one duplicate entry.... as below... any help is appreciated

A change in host name can be a reason for a "duplicate" in the Workload Repository table. In which case you will have the old and new hostnames for the same instance, resulting in what seems to be a duplicate. (as is in my case when an idiot Unix sysadmin mucked around with the hostname on one node and removed the domain name from it, resulting in a non fully qualified hostname)
In your case, it seems that the instance config on host rmodbp05 (which is not fully qualified!) had its instance number updated/changed at some time.. It was instance 1 and now it is instance 2?
That seems like a problem with the original install, or a mess up that was caused when node 3 was inserted into the RAC?

Showing "Instance" Number for documents

When I print a document, I would like to know which version of the documents is the print-out based on. If I can show the "Instance" number from "Change Log" it would be great.
Does anyone has an idea how this can be done? Thanks in advance.
