Change IPod Nano from PC to MAC

We have been connecting my daughter's Nano to Itunes via PC. Recently the PC stopped recognizing the IPod. We have also purchased a new MAC mini and I now want to connect her Nano to the mac.
The solution provide by support is to Restore the Nano, but now neither my PC or Mac recongnize the Nano.
Is there any way to Restore the nano without connecting to a computer?

Your iPod has to be seen by the computer in order to restore the iPod. There are two links here. The first link will show you how to troubleshoot the iPod not being seen in My Computer.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
The second is for an iPod not seen in iTunes or a Mac desktop.

Good luck...

  • IPod Nano from PC to Mac-- how do I tranfer?

I originally had my iPod linked to my PC. I just got a mac (my first), and when I plug my iPod in, the iPod screen does its do not disturb thing, an iPod icon shows up on my desktop, but there doesnt appear to be any syncing going on. How do I get my mac to recognize my iPod?
-- My mac (its second hand) has itunes installed on it.
    Thank you.

You might want to try putting your iPod into disk mode.
For instructions, see this: Putting your iPod into disk mode
If that doesn't seem to work, you might want to try restoring your iPod from your PC, then try connecting it to your Mac.
It seems a bit strange that your iPod isn't being recognized in iTunes, since a Windows-formatted iPod is compatible for both Windows and Mac syncing.

  • Changing ipod over from Windows to Mac

I've been using my ipod with my PC for the last 2 years and I now want to change it over to my powerbook. I have all the music on an external drive and will only be selecting some of the music to go on the ipod as the collection is larger than the pod. I can't find option to only upload ticked songs to the ipod though.
Also I was wondering is anyone could tell me the best way to format the ipod over to mac. shall I just plug it in an the computer will do the rest or do I need to have my ipod serial code or is there anything else I should know?
Any help would be greaetly appreciated.
    Many Thanks
    Martin

If you connect your iPod to iTunes, right click on it, select options, and from there you should be able to select "only update checked songs".
You don't necessarily need to reformat your iPod since a Windows formatted iPod will work just fine on a Mac. (not the other way round though as a Mac formatted iPod cannot work on Windows)
If you want to reformat it, use the iPod updater which can be found in your utilities folder, run the program, connect the iPod and choose restore. This will reformat the iPod for Mac.
If you don't have the latest updater on your computer, you can download it here.

  • How do you change the format from Windows to Mac

Does anyone know how to change the format from Windows to Mac? When I first bought my iPod I had windows but now would like to change this. Also is anyone aware why some tracks pause for 2 seconds and then carries on.

Restore the iPod in iTunes for Mac. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software with the Mac version and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to sync using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

Can I synch an ipod nano 6th generation with Mac OSX 10.4.11 with Itunes 8.02?

No.  You need at least Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later as well as iTunes version 10.1 or later.  Sorry.

Restoring the iPod will do nothing to his iPhone.
When you restore it wipes the iPod clean no matter what computer you use.
The only plus to doing it form your home computer is if you have a backup stored there, then you can restore from the backup once it's done wiping.
If you are away form your home computer, go ahead and use the computer you have to restore it, then when you get home, you can restore form any backup you may find. You can use this to help you do that when you get there: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766

  • I have a 4 GB Ipod Nano from 2006 I am trying to use again.  I leet the anti-virus on my old PC with the iTunes lapse and I think I managed to attract a virus.  If I plug my iPod Nano into this old PC, can it also become infested with a virus?

I have a 4GB iPod Nano from 2006 I am trying to use again.  I let the anti-virus softwarer lapse on my old PC, the one with my iTunes library on it.  Can my iTunes library become affected with this virus?
I have tried to fully charge the iPod but the message screen only displays ""Use iTunes to restore"
Do I need to re-download iTunes and start over?

    Hello Mike,
No, you shouldn't need to worry about your iTunes library being infected with a virus.  As to the restore message on your Nano, have you tried restoring it via iTunes yet?

  • How can I prevent my iPod nano from turning on by itself and running down the battery?

I will arrive at my desk in the morning, stop the podcast I'm listening to, notice by the "play" button appearing on the screen and that absence of audio in my ears that the podcast has actually stopped, hold the big oval button down until the screen goes dark, and set my iPod down on the desk. Every now and again (maybe twice a week) I'll catch the iPod playing. It's usually off playing music (i.e. it's somehow navigated away from the podcast I've been listenting to and ended up in a music shuffle somewhere), and it will continue playing until the battery runs down or until I happen to notice it and turn it off. Doesn't only happen at work, happens anywhere...home, car. Result is that once or twice a week I go to use the iPod and the battery has completely run down.
How can I prevent my iPod nano from turning on by itself?

    Unplug the headphones.

  • In iTunes, how do I switch to an Ipod nano from and old ipod that doesn't work any more

in iTunes on your computer, how do I switch to an Ipod nano from and old ipod that doesn't work any more?  It has all the folders and songs I had on my old ipod, but does not recognize my ipod nano and cannot sync with it?

    Hi bob12345S,
If your iPod nano does not appear in iTunes when connected to your computer, you may want to troubleshoot using the steps on this page -

  • Can't load my ipod nano from itunes on a mac; that is, I can't drag and drop an mp3 file (of a speech) from iTunes to my iPod--though the iPod shows up on iTunes. My nano is the brand new touch screen.

I received the new iPod Nano with the touch screen for Christmas. I have a MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.8. I have iTunes 10 on my system. I cannot drag and drop MP3 files from iTunes to my iPod--though it appears that iTunes recognizes my iPod--it shows up on the Devices menu on the left side of iTunes. My wife--a long-time Mac user--kidded me that I didn't know what I was doing, Then she tried to load my iPod and failed as well. Any suggestions?

Is the Manually manage music and videos option enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes?

  • How do I convert my iPod Nano from Windows to Mini Mac?

I got an iPod Nano a few months ago. I have been doing pretty well with it... My husband just bought me a mini Mac and I want to convert it to be used on the mini Mac instead of my laptop. I have my music on a USB hard drive, so I know how to import. The problem I have is with my iPod. How do I restore a Windows based Nano to now work with Mac? My husband said he tried to restore on the Mac (the five Rs things), but I am not sure what he did. Where do I start, what do I do? As you can guess, I am not particularly good at Mac yet?
P.S. Is there a good reference for Tiger? I am still trying to learn that as well.

Typically, wehn you plug your PC formatted iPod into your awesome new mac, it should say something like, yo this needs to be formatted for a mac, and you agree with it, and it'll reformat your iPod for your mac.
This isn't true at all. The Mac will be content with using a Windows-formatted iPod and will never ask you to reformat it for Mac.
You'd have to reformat it on your own using the iPod Updater Utility on the Mac.
Just launch the iPod Updater Utility on the Mac, and Restore your iPod.
If you only plan on using your iPod with your Mac, then it is a good idea to Restore it on the Mac. Formatting it for Mac will allow it to perform faster on your Mac Mini. It'll mount faster, and transfer data faster. You'll also be able to use your Mac to do firmware updates to your iPod if it is Mac-formatted.
    A Mac can't do a firmware update to a Windows-formatted iPod.
