Change iPod preferences with no iPod connected

In iTunes, how do you change "preferences" from auto-update of iPod to manual update without iPod being connected?

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the work-around for that is to start iTunes, select Preferences, leave Preferences window open, THEN connect iPod and wait 20 +/- seconds for iPod to connect, then select the iPod tab on Preferences and change to manual update.
Is that what you want to do, Paul?

  • Changing printing preferences in hp connected

I want to change my printer preferences when using ePrint to send an email to my printer.  The preferences I'd like to change are printing in black & white as default and also changing to duplex as default if possible.  On another post it said you can login to eprintcenter to update preferences but when I try to login to that it redirects me to HP Connected.  There doesn't seem to be anywhere I can change my printer preferences in HP Connected.  How can I do that?

    Hi,
I have not read the post which says change printer preferences under HP Connected therefore I can't say more BUTfrom your computer, you can set default B&W and also auto duplex on many printers which support those functions. What is your printer ?

  • Changing Ipod connection fom Windows to Mac.

I am trying to change over my Ipod to update from my Mac instead of my PC.
Have downloaded the Ipod updater using software update my Mac so presumably it is the correct format (ie not Windows)
Followed the steps advised in previous related topics, ie run updater, plug in Ipod when prompted etc but I get a message that advises that the I have inserted a disk containg no volumes that MACOSX can read. There are 3 options in this window. Eject, Ignore or Initialize. I have tried all 3 options with no luck. When i click on ignore it goes back to the updater window. This shows the software version, the serial number but under Format- Unknown.
When I then click on restore it goes through the "motions" looking like it is restoring but then comes up with and error message saying there was an error formatting the Ipod.
If I choose Initilize the Disk Utility launches, sometimes showing the Ipod and other times not
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Try to connect your iPod with your Mac (put it in Disk Mode), open the disk utility, if you can see it there (please try few attempts) go to Tab "Partition" and click "Parition". Once it has been done, eject your iPod and do a Reset, then plug your iPod with your Mac and open the iPod updater and click Restore.

  • "No iPod Connected" in iTunes under Edit - Preferences

I bought this 20gb clickwheel iPod from a friend as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend... I'm trying to install it on my PC first so I can put some songs on it so it is ready to go when I give it to him.
I do not have the original software that came with it when it was new.
I first plugged it in to my PC, and it just said it was charging. It then told me to go to www.apple.com/ipod/downloads to get the software updated.
Since I didnt have the software cd, i thought i'd need that before i got the updater - how can it update software if I never had it to begin with? But no - I called Apple and the guy said all I'd need is the latest iTunes and the software updater. So i updated iTunes, downloaded the updater...
Then, the ipod said "Do Not Disconnect" for about 30 minutes after the updater said "(Up To Date)" beside Version 3.1. In addition to that, the little picture of the ipod on the left hand side of that update screen is a pic of the U2 iPod, but I don't actually have the U2 iPod. Also, the serial number shown is the same as the one hard-coded in my iPod, so I have no idea what is up with that.
Then, said i clicked "Reformat". Then I Unplugged it and plugged it into the wall. I chose "english" and waited a minute... it didn't seem to want to do anything else, so i plugged it back into my computer. Same exact thing, with the picture of the U2 iPod in the window. Except this time, when I open My Computer, it says "IPOD" under the e: drive, whereas before it just said "removable disk". Also, in iTunes, under Edit -> Preferences and the iPod tab, it says "no ipod connected". I have no idea what to do next.

I just want to clarify as well, that there is no mention of an iPod on the left-hand side of iTunes under "Source". Also there is no icon on the bottom right side of iTunes so that I can disconnect safely. It is pretty much leaving me no options for disconnecting. I just tried reformatting again, to no avail.

  • IMac will not boot with iPod connected

    Hello everyone
I have a new iMac Core 2 Duo 17 inch 2.0 ghz and it seems to have a problem starting up when a 5th generation iPod is connected to the computer. When the computer is turned on with the iPod connected, the blank grey screen comes on, yet the apple logo or the spinning startup wheel does not appear. However, if the iPod is unplugged, it will startup as usual. Otherwise, there are no other problems with the computer or iPod.
I have attempted the following to resolve the issue, yet none of the aforementioned troubleshooting ideas have worked
    - Reset the PRAM and the SMU
    - Run Apple Hardware Test with no probems
    - Reinstalled Mac OS Tiger and applications
    - Reset the iPod and reimported songs onto iPod
    - Enabled and disabled hard disk mode for iPod
I know that I can simply let the iPod be disconnected at startup; however, I feel like this should not have to be done with a new Apple product. Please let me know any other advice or if anyone has experienced the same issue.
    Thanks!
    Dave

Have you reset your Startup Disk preference? If not, do so to see if that resolves your issue. It sounds as if your iMac is looking to try and boot from the iPod's disk.

  • PC wont switch on with ipod connected

I have recently purchased a brand new pc with running with an AMD chip. I have installed all of my old software, including the ipod/itunes disk that came with the mini, and updated the mini and pc with latest itunes software. Everything seems to be fine with the pc running and the ipod connected. Swith off/restart and the computer freezes after the system logo flashes up and goes no further. Remove the ipod, restart, business as usual.
I have tried resetting, reinstalling, etc but no joy. The ipod is connected via USB to PC with the firewire going to the power out.
Would be grateful for any suggestions

have tried with the firewire instead of the usb and it works, so it would seem to be the bios selecting external USB before the hard drive on boot as described in the link
need to wait till monday now to contact fs as they have not included any instruction as to how to get into the bios to make any changes, but i can use the firewire in the meantime

  • Changing iPod settings on iTunes when iPod is not connected

I got an iPod nano 2GB and would like to change the settings on iTunes without connecting my iPod to it. I don't want iTunes to open when I connect the iPod and want to be able to use it as a disc. When the iPod is not connected there is no option showing on the iTunes screen to make the changes. Can anyone help please?

You have to connect the iPod to change it's settings. If your iPod is set to update automatically you can use a keyboard command to prevent it syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

Steven: Follow this link....it will guide you through the 5R's. I would recommend that you RESTORE your iPod to factory defaults. NB this will wipe the iPod of everything so that you can start a fresh.

  • Can I use ipod touch 5th to mirror my screen on Apple TV via Airplay with out wifi connection?

Can I use ipod touch 5th to mirror my screen on Apple TV via Airplay with out wifi connection?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Peer-to-peer AirPlay
With peer-to-peer AirPlay, your iOS device and Apple TV don't need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. If you have one of these products, you can use peer-to-peer AirPlay:
    * iPhone 5 or later, iPad (3rd generation or later), iPad mini, or iPod touch (5th generation) using iOS 8 or later.
    * Apple TV (3rd generation rev A, model A1469 or later) with Apple TV software 7.0 or later. Find out which Apple TV model you have.
To use peer-to-peer AirPlay, your iOS device needs to have both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on.

  • Ipod connected with VW part to my car: right speakers crackles with music

It only crackles/buzzes with music and not in silent gaps and only my right speakers. I have checked and my my PC files play without any noise. My ipod plays fine with headphones and via hifi connect. My ipod connects at the base with the VW radio/cd player. My VW radio /CD plays correctly with radio and with CD so i presume its not my right speaker. All music is from CD sources and none from any downloads. NOte also it is the same whether the car is running or not. SO does anyone know why the right channel/right speaker has a crackle/buzzing when i listen to my ipod in my car. VW have not come with anything. I am new to the ipod. Any one have any ideas please?

Do you get normal stereo sound from your Nano when using headphones?  If so then the problem is not with the iPod but with the car's sound system, or more likely the cable connecting the two.

  • Macbook pro freezes with iPod connected with lid closed

I've noticed that whenever I have my iPod connected to my MBP, and I close the lid, often times the MBP won't go to sleep, the latch light stays a constant bright. When I try opening the lid, fans and the hard drive are spinning, and nothing is responsive. I have to go with a hard shut down.
    What's up with that?

Remove the battery to find your serial number in the battery bay. Then you can look your MBP up on EveryMac.com:
    http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
That will give you all the information on your Mac.
This is assuming that you have the MBP with the removable battery and not the unibody. The unibody has different graphic chips.
    Good luck!

  • My ipod was wiped with no computer connection. Can it be restored?

I went to use my ipod classic 60gb this morning and there is no songs or photos on it. I have not connected it to a computer in a few weeks but keeping it charged through my dock and car charger. One of the kids had been palying with it. How did it get wiped and is there any way I can restore it? I have most of the songs backed up but on a myriad of disks, hard drives and different laptops. In all the amount of music I had on it would take me hours to recreate. Please help!

    Have you tried DiskUtility->FirstAid Repair.?
If your iPod has zero songs, you cant used any 3rd Party software like Copytrans to retrieve from iPod back to PC.
I can suggest to never leave your iPod connected to the car stereo for the follwing reasons.
The max Operating Temp for the iPod is 50C, if you switched it ON at a higher temperature, the Hardisk will spin and crash, maybe, the filesystem cluster.
Car power supply maybe erratic, as when you start your car engine, you may also cause a surge to the iPod power source, but most time, the iPod circuitry, is protected, except maybe if your HD is spinning, and the Head is moving, a crash is most likely outcome.
However do an Ipod  DiskDiagnostic as posted by tt2 earlier, you HardDisk may still be good, and we can start troubleshooting other causes.

The DD does not directly fix the problem. but help you troubleshoot.

Here's the exact scenario with it:
    1) Ipod connected successfully to iTunes.
    2) Drag song from Library(in AAC format) to My Ipod.
    3) Song plays successfully in iTunes.
BTW: This is one of the songs from my cd. Not bought.
    4) Eject Ipod.

    6) Display for song and time appear.
    7) About 1/3 of a second of the song plays, then it cuts out and restarts itself. (boots me back to apple logo)

Nope - and it was set to not look for them.
The final clue came when I tried hooking the drive directly to the computer, instead of to the airdisk. iTunes still hung. Then I disconnected the drive and tried to run it, and iTunes came up right away - but with an ! next to each song. Clearly it was trying to find/touch every file in the library on first startup.
I didn't try plugging in the drive and leaving the hanging iTunes running for more than a few minutes, so it's possible that it would have recovered and launched. But after removing the XML file, restoring the library to my pre-7.7 version, I could hear it accessing the directly attached drive (and see it in disk activity in the monitor) for a few minutes (less than I'd left the hanging one trying), before it came up.
    Conclusion:
    1) 7.7 is definitely trying to touch/see all the files in the library on first launch (proved by the ! when they are missing).
    2) Disconnecting/interrupting the touch/see MAY have corrupted something (can't prove it).
    3) Since touching 10,000 files takes a LONG time even at 802.11n speeds (let alone b or g), it's worth the hassle to plug the drive in directly for the first time.
    4) Patience is a virtue
