Change Lion folder view defaults

I seem to have two folder view behaviors in my Lion OS environment.   One is what I will call the older view where I can click on the column heading and sort by that column.    The other has a row of icons across the top that I have to click on to change things like sort order.    How do I make the old behavior pervasive?   Not even sure I know why the 'new' behavior happens.

From the "view" menu choose "List View" uncheck in Prefs where you may have checked "Open new windows in column view".

  • Messaging Settings Other Folder View problem on...

    Hey
I've gone into messaging settings > other and then folder view on my Nokia N73 and changed it to 2 lines
When I look at my message inbox it's split down the middle with the senders name on the left and on the right I can see a small preview of the text (the first few words)
I don't like this view, so changed the folder view back to 1 line to all I can see in my message inbox is the name of the sender and it doesn't change back
I've deleted all my texts from the inbox and changed back to 1 line folder view, but I'm still getting 2 line view
    can anyone help

hmm...i cant seem to reproduce that on my N73 so maybe u just need to do something stupid like restart the phone or *#7370# it....

  • Change default folder view?

Hi. I was wondering if there was a way to change the default folder view. For instance, I'd like it so that when I create a new folder or open a new window it would be automatically in list view mode, and with the specific columns I want. Is this possible?

From the "view" menu choose "List View" uncheck in Prefs where you may have checked "Open new windows in column view".

  • Hidden network drives "home" and "net" shown in folder view Adobe Bridge CS5 / Lion Problem

Updated to Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion and got this "problem":
The hidden network drives "home" and "net" shown in folder view Adobe Bridge CS5 (unlike in 10.6 Snow Leopard).
Normally these network drives are hidden (in Finder and other Apps) - but Adobe Bridge CS5 is showing them, despite "show hidden files" is unchecked in Adobe Bridge.
Not a dramatic "bug", but it also shouldn't be a big problem for Adobe Bridge engineers to solve this. My first question to the Adobe Support was answered like: "we don't know what Apple did change, so we cannot do anything". Hmmm, are you serious?
I tried to resolve that problem by myself but failed. So, if an Adobe engineer is reading this post: perhaps Adobe Bridge is ignoring the automounter master map (that was my approach to resolve it):
    # Automounter master map
    +auto_master                    # Use directory service
    /net           -hosts                 -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
    /home                                        auto_home       -nobrowse,hidefromfinder
    /Network/Servers               -fstab
    /-                              -static
You cannot do anything to these folders, so it is not a serious issue, but, I mean, did someone at Adobe check compatibiliy with 10.7 and ignored this issue? If so, are there an other issues ignored?
But I guess, the compatibilty update for Bridge CS5 for Lion is Bridge CS6 - to be fair: I also have to say, that in general Bridge is running okay on Mac OS X 10.7.2 (but could be better, as always;)

    Hi Curt Y,
thanks for your answer! Yes you' re right, I forgot to mention that ... before I posted here, I sent a bug report via the Apple Bug Report webpage about the issue ... of course, here are 2 parties involved.
I had a similiar problem once and I got a meesage back from Apple: "that it is a 3rd party problem, sorry" (it was about color management).
I am just a user and I often feel very strange about Apple's (topsecret) communication behaviour ... Whatever, what do I know about software engineering? - Right.
Maybe someone on this forum has an idea, because I'm afraid, thus it is not a serious bug, no one would take care about it in the next time (during my research I found an older post here on the forum about the same problem ...).
    thanks for help in advance,

  • Setting a default folder view for all folders in Windows 7

How do you set up a default folder view of "List" for ALL the folders in Windows 7 including the optical drive?
    Artoo

I just installed windows 7. Are you seriously telling me that i now have all folders with mp3s in them AUTOMAGICALLY (THANKS FOR THE HANDY HELPING HAND THERE MICROSOFT!!!) set to some designers whim of what an mp3 folder "SHOULD" look like?
Well i was going to write a big rant, and indeed did, but then i was doing some more research and it seems like i just made everyones day and solved the problem (partially). Or well THIS guy did:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16694/customize-the-five-windows-folder-templates/
After you’ve clicked OK, visit some of the other folders in your file system.  You should see that most have taken on these new settings.
What we’ve just done, in effect, is we have customized the General Items template.  This is one of five templates that Windows Explorer uses to display folder contents.  The five templates are called (in Windows 7):
    General Items
    Documents
    Pictures
    Music
    Videos
When a folder is opened, Windows Explorer examines the contents to see if it can automatically determine which folder template to use to display the folder contents.  If it is not obvious that the folder contents falls into any of the last four templates,
then Windows Explorer chooses the General Items template.  That’s why most of the folders in your file system are shown using the General Items
    template.
    Changing the Other Four Templates
If you want to adjust the other four templates, the process is very similar to what we’ve just done.  If you wanted to change the “Music” template, for example, the steps would be as follows:
Select a folder that contains music items
Apply the existing Music template to the folder (even if it doesn’t look like you want it to)
Customize the folder to your personal preferences
Apply the new template to all “Music” folders
A fifth step would be:  When you open a folder that contains music items but is not automatically displayed using the Music template, you manually select the Music template for that folder.
Anyways, sorry that explanation doesnt do it justice. I have spent waaay too much time trying to figure this out already. Also that link doesnt say how to 1) copy templates (are they file or registry based?, didnt do research) 2) if you can distable templates
or the automatic re-templating of folders.
THAT is what i want to know! as it is much more maintance then its actually worth...
but once i had set 5 default types to, the exact same thing... it now doesnt matter if it automagically switches it. SUCK IT MS AUTOTUNE!!!
Its bloody hard to frame this question too. What can you say about this? "folder changes to mp3" "customize folder types windows 7" "windows 7 folder changes to mp3" "dont automatically change folders to mp3" "how
to change mp3 details column for good" "automatically change column order win 7 mp3"
The search that actually solved it:
"do not apply default template to mp3 windows 7"
good luck, this worked for me!
EDIT: also i just noticed that neonr already answered this above. i just didnt read it carefully enough. anyways i guess i will leave this and mark his as answer.

  • How can I make folder view the default view when I open Organizer?

I just bought Adobe Elements Photshop and Premier 11.  I spent 2 to 3 hours getting my picture video library into Adobe's organizer.  I had some problems with duplicate picture (that I wanted to be there - so I had to rename them) and a couple pictures with corrupted metadata.  After I got all that sorted out I am a bit miffed about the folder view on Adob'es organizer.
I love that you can switch to folder view - since this is how I have been organizing my pictures for a long time.  I would like to continue organizing this way for now until I get a grasp on the other ways I can organize them in elements.  However, every time I close and re-open organizer it switches back to the default view instead of folder view.  PLEASE tell me that there is a way to set folder view to the default view!  HELP!

    99jon wrote:
Perhaps it’s a design feature to speed up the Organizer launch.
    I am sure it is.
    - The normal use of the Organizer is not the folder view, it's the thumbnail view with an organization based on categories and folder. That way you should forget completely where your pictures are stored. Anyway, the folder view in the Explorer is not a map of the location of the different bits of your file, it's only a logical representation. That's easy to see when you are doing a defragmentation.
    - The folder view is useful even for those using normally the thumbnail view, but that is only for rare cases when you must change the folder organization, for instance moving files to another drive. The folder view is here to prevent you from changing things from the explorer and outside of the Organizer.
    - The new folder list view, which you find 'funny' is there to help better organizing using tags. Its huge advantage is that such a view is created extremely quickly by extracting the last subfolder in the media table : it's the way the database sees the folders, based on its own content,  totally ignoring the complex folder organization of your disk with media files or any unrelated other kind of data. You should use it in many cases, the main purpose being assigning tags when you have assigned descriptive folder names. I had suggested such a solution to prevent the long standing bugs in the folder view of previous versions.
    So yes, the purpose is:
    - to speed up switching modes
    - to help folder organization fans to migrate to tags organization
    - to hopefully get rid of the old folder organization bugs

  • How to maintain default folder view (broken when leopard clients connect)?

    hi there,
we run 10.4 tiger server and have the problem that if 10.5 leopard clients connect to the share their changes to the folder view become the new default for everyone connecting after them. with 10.4 clients the default folder view is looked to the settings of the admin.
is there a way to bring back this feature with 10.5 clients connecting? lock the default folder view of shares?
this question was asked before by andy lowe (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1571877&tstart=45) but never answered.

It's "show view options" in English. Also obtained by typing CMD+J
Those only apply to the top-level folder. Each folder you open uses whatever you've elected to use as the defaults. Select a folder, CMD+J, set the view as you desire, click on Use as Default button. That setting will be used for all windows that you open in the future that have never been opened previously. All other windows that you opened will retain whatever view you previously selected for them.
If you want to reset everything to one view, close all open Finder windows, launch the Terminal app (/Applications/Utilities/), copy & paste this command into the window that pops up,
    find ./ -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;
hit the return key, quit the Terminal app, restart, open a Finder window, CMD+J, set up the view options as desired, click the Use as Defaults button, and close the view options window. Now, every Finder window you open will have this view.

  • How to Get A Default Folder View That Overrides Other Settings?

Hi Thanks for checking my question. Now I have a default folder view that display things nicely every time I open finder. But whenever I attach a external drive or a card reader or connect to a networked drive, my default setting is overridden by all the previous folder views I had for those hard drives/cards/network locations. Is there a way to use my folder view settings in the highest priority, so that whatever I opened in finder (local, external or remote) will show itself in the same manner?
    Any enlightenment is appreciated.

Actually the view I get from opening a folder seems to depend on HOW I opened it as well. If I clicked finder on the dock and navigate to my Downloads folder I get the view I want, but if I opened Downloads folder by clicking its dock icon (as a stack I guess?) the view is the same old view I got before I changed my default folder view. How can I fix this so I may have a very consistent-looking finder window?
    Thanks.

  • How do I get Lion  to preserve the folder view I select?

I like to have different folders set up different ways. Some I always want arranged by name in icon view. Some I want arranged by date created or date modified. Others I want to see a list view. In Snow Leopard I could set the view once and then each time I opened the folder again I got the same view. With Lion I seem to get a random arrangement each time I close and re-open a folder. It is really infuriating. Is ther any way to get the folder view settings to stick?

If you're transferring to another library, why are you exporting to the Finder (which is what Desktop, thumbdrive and DropBox are). This doesn’t understand manual sorting from iPhoto.
Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

  • How to set default folder view to "list"

    Hi guys,
This is regarding Tiger. I poked around in the Finder forum to no avail. Have any of you come up with anything that would force the default folder view to "list" view?
Um, folders, they are found in the gui.
Thanks for any thoughts, scripts, plists, insults welcome, have a Merry Christmas!

    "all windows"
    Unfortunately that did not work.
While in the Finder from the menu bar go to Finder > Preferences > General tab. See the item "Open new windows in column view" Whatever that is affecting I suppose would be the place to start hacking away on. I haven't investigated that. Would have been nice if Apple added list view in there.
I'll see if I can poke around a bit and find what file gets affected by setting that option. I'll post if I find something.

  • Change Smart View default colours for all clients

I need to change Smart View default colours. But it must be done in a centralized way, so I can not set it up at the client level. I'm not sure if Smart View takes defaults from planning.css styles, or if they're defined somehow at the provider, or maybe specified in client installer.
Thank you in advance for any guidance on this.
    SD

    SD,
You may want to work with Oracle SmartView Support, to see if / how it is possible for SmartView, using a Service Request.
    Thanks!

  • Files Tab Default Folder View

I mange close to 200 website, all of which reside on a network drive a few folders down.  I am trying to find a way to change the default starting folder for the tree structure in the FILES tab.  Currently, the tree structure starts at the root of that directory, then like 10 folders down to get to my working Customers directory.  I would like to make the Customers directory the starting point.
I hope that that explains my issue.  If not, I hope any questions you might have will help me to explain it better.
    Thanks!

    Hi noisrev,
The following steps will change your default starting folder and will not change your folder structure.  I know this works with FTP but I haven’t checked it with other access methods.
    1)     Open Dreamweaver
    2)     Site à Manage Sites…
    3)     Select your site and click Edit…
    4)     Click on the Advanced tab
    5)     Click on Remote Info in the side panel
    6)     Them in Host Directory type in the folder path to the folder that you want to be your default folder.  This should be from the default folder of your FTP account.

  • Adobe acrobat pro x change the program's default page display to single page view - Windows 8, HP La

adobe acrobat pro x change the program's default page display to single page view - Windows 8, HP Laptop

Since there were no answers, I will take a stab at a reponse. For the 2nd method, I suspect you could simply select the print or press job options to get the desired results or turn off "use local fonts" in Acrobat. If you check the font list, the fonts are probably not embedded and that is likely the problem.
I noticed that you have both Reader and Acrobat installed and that might cause some conflict, but should not be the issue here. If you were to uninstall Reader, you would have to repair Acrobat. The conflict here is that you might have problems with the one opening when you want the other. If it works for you, then don't worry about it.
For technique 1, I suspect you may be using IE 9 that has apparently been a problem since it came out. I have refused to install it. However, it may simply be that PDF Maker does not work correctly with your browser, or got deactivated and needs to be allowed to run in your browser (IE I am assuming).

  • Folder view changes after saving file

After a while, whenever I choose a starting folder in a save dialog, where the folder view is Columns, the folder view changes to that view in Finder as well, but I want it to stay in List view, while brows in the save dialog in Columns view.
How can I make sure, that whichever folder I choose from the save dialog, it's view never changed from List to Columns view, (regardless wether I choose Column view, or it opened already in that view) without changing each and every folder preference individually?

Every time you resave a JPEG, information is lost. How much depends upon the degree of compression - more compression, more loss, smaller file.
A one off save is probably insignifincant. The fact that the file size changes is unsurprising. PSE probably does its compression a bit differently from the camera.

  • PSE9 and Folder View changes

I recently upgraded from PSE7 and it appears that in this version you can see only the folder you click on and sometimes not even that.
Is there anyway to see all the selected photos grouped by folder as I could do in all earlier versions?
Even worse, I had a small database with all photos in a single folder. When I switch to folder view (with all images showing in  thumbnail view) then all photos disappear!!! Even though the icon in the finder view indicates that there are photos in the folder.
My databases have had thumbnails refreshed, no images need to be reconnected, and have been optimized and repaired.
In case it matters: Windows 7 64 bit with all updates applies to PSE9.

The 30 day free trial is an excellent idea. The problem for upgrading users is the difficulty of keeping things viable for the older version while actively using the new one.
Elements data is extraordinarily difficult to fix when anything gets messed up in the connection area. Trying to reconnect photos once PSE (every version) loses its links is unbelievable. The program is extremely stupid. I had an entire database that somehow had the "C" replaced by "F". The remaining parts of the file names were unchanged. It took me the better part of two days to fix. Any decent programmer (I am a semi-retired programmer with about 45 years experience) would have the sense to first assume that the device was wrong since that happens so easily.
I figure my problem was caused by my repair of a crashed disk where I had to restore from backups. The "F" disk was the source of the backup and data was put on C: yet somehow all links were lost.
Don't ever try to use DVD's as anything more than a backup either. Newer versions cannot always read the DVD's so recovery that is even worse.
I am far off thread, but all relates to using a free trial. I would expect links to be messed up in the process.
Also, the old folder view made fixes much easier - I dread trying to change locations with this buggy folder view.
Ah well, thanks for the comments.
