Change Mail's 'Copy Address' behavior

All,
the old hint (see http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20091203062729936)) no longer works.
<<
In versions of Mail prior to OS X 10.6, you could copy an email address from a message by Control-clicking on the address and choosing Copy Address from the contextual menu. As part of my job, I do this a lot -- users will email me, asking to look up their account name, for instance, so I need to paste their email address into a web form.
>>
Any ideas how to solve this behauvior in Maverics?
Regards

Thank you. I suspected as much.
If anyone else happens to have knowledge about 3rd party apps...I would appreciate hearing about it.
Although KiltedTim brings up a good point that I hadn't mentioned...I specifically want this to work with business email pushed from Exchange via ActiveSync...

  • Can someone explain "copy address" in Mail?

I have never understood why when you click on an address in an e-mail and then select "copy address" what you get is not only the address but also the name. For  instance,  "[email protected]" when you copy and paste yields "Name <[email protected]>".  This is a royal pain because if I for instance want to paste this in another application like in the address field for Evernote to send a note to someone, I then have to manually remove everything but the actual e-mail address.
So can someone explain why Mail does it this way?  What am I missing?  Is there an easier way to copy just the e-mail address that won't give me the extra crap?

Outstanding!  And I love the commentary, "incredibly irritating".  This is one of those, "what were they thinking?" changes.  There must be some logic behind the change but I have never figured it out.
Glad someone figured out how to fix it.

  • HT201342 In Apple Mail, how do I change the default outgoing address for mailboxes that I've set up?

In Apple Mail (Yosemite on a MacBook Pro), the default address for outgoing messages from mailboxes that I've set up that are *not* tied to separate email accounts has suddenly become my iCloud address (which I almost never use). I've got my default set to use whatever address is the default for the mailbox I'm in. This works fine for mailboxes associated with different mail accounts, and until recently it worked fine for mailboxes that I had set up for convenience, using my default email address (which is an Earthlink address I've had for many years). Somewhere within the last year, perhaps with an upgrade to the OS, I've found that outgoing mail from one of those mailboxes (but not from the general Inbox) defaults to my iCloud address. I have to manually choose a different address each time (which is hard to remember to do). This is new behavior, and very unwelcome. But I can see no way to change the default email address associated with each mailbox.
How do I undo this unwanted connection?

    Hi everyone
Sorry however I'm experiencing a similiar issue, in that I have 10 differing email accounts.
However in the default email accounts, for some bizarre reason, only 4 show, being icloud, one of my older yahoo email accounts, my work email and then "From My PC".
I run two other businesses of which I have a proper Google Mail Business Accountsfor each, but non of my google email address show in the default list.
    Is there any reason why?
I actually want one of those to show.
I have put my google mail to the top of the inbox, however it still doesn't show?
I've also put the default calendar as my google business account but still the default account doesn't display.
    Any ideas?

  • Why does Mail change the sender email address?

My email address from work has a subdomain: "[email protected]".
Although my mac Mail account is set up correctly with that email address in the account settings, when I send mail, users receive it showing that the sender (from:) is "[email protected]" - it drops the subdomain and replies to that address get bounced back.
Does anybody know why this is happening?
    Thanks -

In the From header of the copy of the message in teh sent box,
it reads correctly as [email protected]
Does this provide me a clue?
Sure it does. What you see in Sent is what Mail sends to the outgoing (SMTP) server. If the message gets changed afterwards, some agent other than Mail (probably the outgoing server) is doing it...
I know that Gmail’s outgoing server, for example, does this. In order to be able to use Gmail's SMTP server with another address, you must first enable that address in Gmail's Settings > Accounts page, and let Gmail validate it by verifying that you do indeed own it. If you don't do this, even though Mail will correctly send the message from the address you specify, Gmail's SMTP server will silently change it to the address associated with the Gmail account that corresponds to the username specified during SMTP authentication, instead of refusing to send the message as other SMTP servers would do in those circumstances.

  • I updated to 5.0 today and now when I try to email from my phone, I am thwarted by the pop-up, "cannot send mail. a copy has been placed in my outbox. the recipient (email address) was rejected by the server.  I need help, please.

    I updated to 5.0 today.
Now, when I try to email from my phone, I am block, thwarted, rejected by the following message:
    Cannot Send Mail
A copy has been placed in your Out Box.  The recipient (enter email here) was rejected by the server.
This happens with my business address.  Receiving works.... sending doesn't.
My SBC Global address on this same phone is fine...receiving and sending.
    What to do?  I'm stressed.

    Hi,
I had the same issue on my iPhone 5S.  My internet/email provider told me to uncheck (turn off) USE SSL under Mail settings, and it worked perfectly for me.

  • Can I change my iCloud email address and keep all of my music, apps, files and mail in the cloud and on all of my devices?

Ok, so here's the deal. I want to change my iCloud email address. Ultimately I want to keep the same Apple ID and simply edit the part before the '@icloud.com'. If this is not possible, can I make a new Apple ID and transfer all of music, apps, files, and mail to the new Apple ID and all of my other devices?
                        Thanks in advance, Scotty P.

You cannot change your iCloud email address but you can setup a new alias: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a490a
You cannot transfer purchases from one AppleID to another.

  • Mail is changing my Exchange server address

So I work offsite from my office and the office has it's own Exchange 2007 server.  When I add my email to Mail.app, it autodiscovers my settings and properly sets up my account.
The issue happens when I exit the app and re-open the app, I start getting errors and find that Mail.app has changed my internal server address to something different, and I have to change it back again to the right one, ie:
    Correct address:
    mobile.xxxxxxxxxx.com
Wrong one that Mail.app changes the address to:
    exchange.xxxxxxxxxx.com
Anyone know how to keep it from doing that?

    Figured it out.
I let Mail.app change the internal server to the exchange.xxxxxxxx.com address, and added the mobile.xxxxxxx.com address to the external server field, and everything works without errors now.

  • Changed Mail behavior

Apple has changed Mail's behavior. Here's what happens.
As soon as I set up the custom Junk filters so that it catches no messages, but the Junk mailbox is still there, the ability to use Cmd-6 goes away. If I configure Mail's Junk mail setting so that it puts messages into the Junk mailbox ("Move it to the Junk mailbox"), the Cmd-6 shortcut returns. This is whether or not any junk mail arrives. Just changing the Junk mail settings is enough.
For those of us who use Spam Sieve and like to keep the Junk mailbox so we can quickly navigate to it with Cmd-6, this is a big pain.

At the bottom of the mail list there should be a bar with a wee dot in the middle of it. You should be able to drag it upwards to reveal the preview pane.

This site lets you change your primary country, and so lets you use the app store.

  • Mail's from address not working as expected

I have a friend who has an unusual email issue that has me stumped.
He has two accounts set up in Mail, one with his isp pop account like [email protected], and another that is a pop account with his domain like [email protected]
He has [email protected] set as the default (first in the accounts preferences, but when he sends email from this account (verified in the "account drop down on every new email he composes), the reply to, and all the header info makes the email look as if it is coming from [email protected]
I have checked several times, and both of the accounts are set up with the correct and appropriate pop settings (description, mail address, full name, mail server and username and password.
Because of how his isp works, we must use their smtp server to send email from BOTH accounts. But, I do not think that this should change his from and reply to email data as it goes out. He claims it worked as expected until a few months ago.
I cannot think of any troubleshooting path for this issue. Any suggestions on what might be going on?

I keep getting a message "cannot send mail" a copy has been placed in your outbox. The recipient was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying. How can I fix this error so I can send emails.

The issue definitely sounds like your Outgoing/SMTP settings need to be changed.  Simply set them to the proper settings for your provider as was suggested above.
I found this link for Knology:  http://support.knology.net/content/email.setup.cfm
The SMTP settings can be edited on the iPad/iPhone by going to Settings--> Mail, Contacts, Calendars, edit the account having trouble, click the Account, then at the bottom is the SMTP server info, click on it to edit it further.
It should allow you to edit the primary smtp server and let you enter all the good stuff as you see in the Knology link above.
Some providers require you to register your account on their service like AT&T.

  • Is it possible to change the "From Email Address in workflow"

I have a created a task list and set a workflow for the list.
    Workflow Actions:
    1. Send a Email to the "Assigned To" user whenever a task is created.
    2. If the Task is due, send an reminder Email and even if its not completed, send a Email to the higher Management.
    Workflow is working fine.
    Issue:
The Email from address is the Email Address that has been entered in the SharePoint central admin Outgoing Email address.
I would need the from address to be of whomever has assigned the task to the particular person.
Let me know if its possible?

    Hi Alex,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to change the From email address in workflows.
The from address is set in the outgoing e-mail settings in Central Administration.
There is no OOB way to change it in workflows.
As a workaround, I suggest you develop your own workflow activity to do it.
Or, there is a CodePlex solution, it contains a Send Email Extended action which allows you to specify the sender, you can take a look at:
    http://spdactivities.codeplex.com/
