Change missing fonts in multiple files CS4

I am using InDesign CS4 and I have several dozen files that are missing fonts because of going from a Mac to Windows. I have approximately 20 documents open, so there are 20 "Missing Fonts" dialog boxes open. If I want to replace the missing fonts, which are pretty much the same in every document, is there a way to replace all the missing "Arial Black"s at once instead of having to replace each font in each document one at a time?
I hope that makes sense?
Thanks,
Lloyd

No prob, Lloyd. I meant to include some Handy Illustrative Screenshots but the work I'm actually getting paid to do kept getting in the way  Glad you were able to figure it out.
Unfortunately, this method doesn't have the "Redefine Style When Changing All" checkbox that you get when you use the Find Font dialog. I usually wind up using this techinque with files I've not styled - e.g. when a designer sends me a package from a Mac with no styles and a bunch of 0k fonts that wouldn't support my target languages even if I did have a license for the font in the first place. In those rare occasions when I have to do this to my own well-styled docs, I made a key combo control-alt-shift-R "Redefine Style" so I could step through the doc and redefine all of the styles to the new font.
Peter & Uwe, do either of you remember when using find/change for missing fonts started working? Was it new in CS4, or am I remembering PageMaker? Quark? I can't tell. I do remember a time a decade or so ago when I was manually stepping through a massive document made of thousands of individual frames, cursing my inability to search for missing fonts.

  • How can I change the font to multiple titles at the same time?

Hey guys, quick question. I have a bunch of titles and lower thirds in my project and my producer decided that he didn't like the font we were previously using and wants to change it to a new one. He seems to do that pretty often. Is there a way to "globally" change the font to multiple title cards at the same time instead of clicking on each one separately and doing it manually for each one? And if there is no way to do that does anyone have any ideas on how to make it easier?

If you have any idea of design and fonts you would understand that "Title Cards" are not "exactly the same" if you change the font... because all fonts are not equal! Lower thirds are probably even more restrictive because they have design elements in them.
If you work with "change their mind producers"...the deal that goes with that is suck up their changes. (on a salary or otherwise)
I was just saying there is no way without scripting ..to change a title ( graphic) en masse ( in Premiere) and get it working because of font differences.

The JAVA API would be a good start. Simploy construct a search for the appropriate documents, then recurse through the SearchResults and apply your changes.

  • Missing font makes Adobe InDesign CS4 6.0.4 crash

    Hi!
I am having a problem with the latest version of Adobe InDesign CS4 (v 6.0.4).
I opened an old document which contained two missing fonts.
I was able to correct the first one by changing it to an existing font.
But when I tried to correct the second one, the application crashed.
    I did this:
    1. Opened the document with the missing font (the first font was now already corrected).
    2. In the warning dialog window saying a font was missing, I clicked "Find Font".
    3. The missing font was called "Helvetica (T1) Bold Narrow". I set it to be replaced by "Helvetica Regular".
    4. Then I clicked "Change All".
    5. Indesign CS4 crashes.
This is the information about the missing font (note that it says "First Used: na" which is strange):
    Filename: <not installed>
    Full Name: Helvetica
    First Used: NA
    Font: Helvetica (T1) Bold Narrow
    PostScript Name: Helvetica-Narrow-Bold
    Style: Bold Narrow
    Type: Type 1
    Version:
    Restrictions: Unkonwn (Font is missing)
    Path: Unknown (Font is missing)
    Character Count: 27
    Style Count: 0
    Styles:
    Page: none
Does anyone have a solution, or is this a bug?
    Thanks

    Hi! Thanks for your answer.
I am using Windows XP (SP3).
I tried to export my INDD file (ID CS4 format) to an INX file.
But that also made InDesign crash (perhaps because of the font thing).
Unfortunately I can't change the missing font of the text because:
    * I can't see the text frame that contains the missing font.
    * InDesign crashes when using the "Find Font" function.
However, this is not a big problem, I can still work with the file. But I will
always get the annoying warning about the missing font, and I prefer to
have no errors in my INDD files.

  • Missing font in one file, but not another?

In one document, I changed a section of type to Helvetica, then it turned pink. It says Helvetica is missing. I opened another document and used Helvetica with no problem. I closed InDesign, checked my fonts and used Helvetica in other programs. Reopeing ID, I copied the Helvetica type from the second file and pasted it in the first file, and now Helvetica works fine in the first file. What the heck?

    @OP
Are you sure you really have that Helvetica installed & activated in your system? If you use InDesign CS5 or 5.5 and you have received documents as packages where used fonts have been stored in Document Fonts folder, you may use those fonts in indd-file that has been stored in the same root with Document Fonts folder. If you move your indd out of that root, certain fonts may stop working....
I dont know if this causes your troubles, it´s more likely font management issue but still worth to check if nothing else helps you out.

  • Missing fonts in Keynote file : how to replace them ?

When opening a Keynote file that had fonts not installed on the system, an alert window used to open.
You could then easily replace the missing fonts with other ones installed.
    Not anymore !
The alert window still appears in Keynote V6, but the "replace font" option is missing.
Does anyone know a workaround ?

yeah, I tried the whole modifying the master slide thing but the missing fonts aren't on there, they would have come from slides I deleted as well or already replaced the fonts on so not sure why they are lingering....
oh wait...I think I might have just figured out something. The whole "revert to previous version" wouldn't that have something to do with still remembering fonts used in a previous version? I'm going to try and see if I can duplicate the current document in some way that makes it a new version with no history in it.
Other than that I was going to try exporting to '09 do the replace fonts tool that was in there and then open it back up but I'll have to modify the transitions and shadows that were new to current version of keynote.

  • How can I change the font in html-file

    Hello,
if I create a new html-file in KM-Content - Folder - New - Html-File, I always get the font Times New Roman. In the editor I have Arial oder something similar - but not in the view.
Does anybody know how to change this font to Arial? Where do I have to configure what? Thanks

sorry that I´m no mathematician or a SAP EP-consultant
    Never mind!
So "dumb" is maybe the wrong word
You didn't realize the ";-)" behind it?!
It's just that this strict "it doesn´t work like you wrote" was a bit irritating, in fact it works, it's tested on the same version as you are on, and it's also not a very new feature (new features often are buggy at some ends).
But now I had a second look on the link I have given - and sorry, even if it should help, in fact it was the EP50-version. The NW04 version, which seems you have already detected by yourself, is http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a8/923717bc40dd49b1e296b9877e98f0/frameset.htm
After having seen this, I also found this ominous description of "HTML Filter for Portal Stylesheets"http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/cc/b8f941db015f24e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
Yes, this does in fact not exist on EP6 SP9. You could open an OSS message and ask to delete the description of a non-existing feature or for delivery of it.
Anyhow, it shouldn't do more than the HTML Stylesheet Filters are already doing - maybe it would choose the corresponding CSS by itself?
Is there anything else I have to configure anywhere?
The prerequisity is "The publishing pipeline is configured appropriately.", but this should be the case by default.
The repository used is "documents" and the html file you have been using is stored in this repository?
The stylesheet exists on the location set within the stylesheet configuration?
There are not sooo many screws to turn...?!
    Hope it helps

  • Find missing fonts in AI file

I am writing a VBA script to open and print a handful of AI files. It needs to detect any missing/substituted fonts in each file to alert the designers in an accompanying report.
I tried creating a list of fonts using the TextFonts collection from the Application object when the application first opens, and then compared the list to the TextFonts after opening the file. This allowed me to detect the font differences between the two, but I have no way of knowing if the additional font was embedded in the AI file or substituted with another.
    Any ideas?

yeah, I tried the whole modifying the master slide thing but the missing fonts aren't on there, they would have come from slides I deleted as well or already replaced the fonts on so not sure why they are lingering....

  • How do you change the font in multiple text boxes?

I just started using illustrator and I can't figure this one out.  Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.
I made a bunch of text boxes using the type tool.  Is there a way I can link the boxes and easily change the font?
    Thanks,
    Justin

You select the text frames holding dow the shift keys then go to Type>Thread text, I would select the text frames in the order you wan them threaded.
Then once threaded you click the text tool inside of one of the text strings and do a command A to select all the text and then choose any method of changing the font such as Character Panel, Control Panel or Type>Font menu item.
you can also look into creating Paragraph styles as well.

  • ITunes cannot change video kind for multiple files

i put many video files to library, and then i want to change each video kind into music video, but unfortunately i can't find an easy to change those files at once.
i have to change them one by one.
my question is: is it possible to change "video kind" of many files at itunes library at once? how?
    thx

No, it's not possible to batch-edit the fields on the Video tab. This seems like an outright oversight and will probably be corrected in a future version soon. What's worse, after you take the time to change the Video settings on your files one at a time, iTunes won't bother saving all the changes in the file itself. The Video Kind setting will change to the default "Movie" when the file is removed and added back to the library. For instance, all the "TV Show" files you back up to disk become "Movie" when added back to the library later. You have to edit the Video tab one by one again! It's maddening.

  • Font colors missing from linked ai files (cs4)

so i have an indesign document with a bunch linked AI files all of which have the same fonts in the same colors (white and light yellow) over the same color backgrounds.
earlier this week i printed without a problem. since then i've added a few notes here and there and i printed again and now most of the white text doens't show up on the print, some shows up barely, and some looks embossed into the background color. the yellow text printed purple. if i outline the text it prints fine.
the text that weent wrong, i didn't change from before when it printed fine. my coworker had also printed a copy from a pdf i made from indesign with the same results.
    can anyone help?
this is on indesign cs4 with linked ai cs4 files on mac os x lion.

If the yellow text printed purple then perhaps the yellow text has been set to overprint.
Similarly - it seems like the text for the white has been set to overprint.

  • Unexpected quits, missing themes, missing fonts and broken file paths

I created a project in iDVD 5 on the Powerbook at home, and then took the drive containing the project and all related files to my dad's office to burn it on his iMac G5 (the drive in the powerbook won't burn anything - separate problem). I put all the required files which were on the Powerbook's internal HD in a folder on the external HD, so that they could be reconnected at the office (when the "following files could not be found" dialog pops up).
However, when I opened the project on the G5, from iDVD, it told me that at least one of the themes I had used could not be found. "Ok," I thought, "which ones are they?"; clicking the "show details" triangle, I got the following message:
"The following themes, used by this project, are missing on your system:
    (null)"
This occured a total of five times, before the "following files could not be found" dialog appeared. Some of them had been on my desktop or in my preferences on the powerbook, which I had copied into the aforementioned folder on the portable HD, but it could not find any of the movie files nor some of the image files, all of which had not changed position on the external HD since I started the project. I showed it where all of the files were, and then another message popped up telling me a font was missing. At this point it froze on the spinning coloured ball of death, before showing me an "unexpectedly quit" message. I have been through this so many times, even tried deleting the "com.apple.iDVD.plist" file, which didn't help. I am at a loss.
iMac G5 Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2x 2 GHz Intel processors

What version of iDVD is on your Dad's computer. Since you have posted in the iDVD 6 forum, perhaps it is iDVD 6? That may be your problem because I would NOT expect a project created in iDVD 5 (as you have done) to work in iDVD 6.
If you had iDVD 6, I would have suggested you try creating an actual project archive out of iDVD (FILE>ARCHIVE PROJECT). The archive SHOULD contain all the elements you need to work on another computer.

  • Can't change "Open with" for multiple files

For some reason, all swfs on my computer won't open in the Flash player that came with Flash 9. If I select 1 swf and set it to open with the player, it will work, however, if I select multiple ones, get info and try to set them all to open in the player (or "Change All") I get a dialogue saying I don't "have privileges to change the application for these documents only. Do you want to change all similar documents to open with the application Flash Player.app?" This is rediculous because I could so this in Tiger just fine. Also, I'm the admin and i'm in MY account, so I should be able to do anything I want, right?
Any insights? I've repaired disk permissions by the way.
    Dan P.

This is sometimes a problem with the launchservices database. You can try the following to fix it:
    Rebuild LaunchServices Database
    For Tiger users
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt paste in the following command in its entirety:
/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServic es.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
    Press RETURN.
    For Leopard users
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt paste in the following command in its entirety:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
    Press RETURN.
If this isn't successful then there may be other problems involved. You can try this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
You can install the freeware preference pane, RCDefaultApp - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - which is useful for extensive control over various file associations.
