Change music to non DRM format

After a very long time with apple products I have had to switch to an adnroid phone.  Now I am finding that half my music is stuck on the computer becuase it is DRM protected.  Is there a way to get that protection off the songs, I am very annoyed with this right now.  Or is not taking the protection off how can I get it to my phone?

Why has this come as a surprise? iTunes hasn't applied DRM to music downloads for quite some time, but when it did the limitations were clearly signaled. As an alternative to iTunes Match you may also burn audio files to CD and then rip back to the computer.

  • How to tell the difference between DRM (fairplay) music and non-DRM music?

Apple finally is selling non-DRM music and I've bought a couple songs in the past with ease. I like the system but I'm having a problem finding out which music is still using DRM.
Apple originally differentiated it by charging 30 cents more for the unprotected music. Now however they removed the surcharge, but there's no way to tell if the music I'm looking at is protected.
I choose not to buy DRMed music as I'm using my music to burn MP3 CDs for my car, and having to crack protection isn't the way I want to do it.
How can I tell using iTunes Store which music is DRM protected, and which music is DRM free?

Agreed, I have stopped buying from iTunes until they eliminate the restrictions, and have started replacing the songs I DID buy from iTunes with non copy protected ones from Amazon. I tell everyone not to buy from iTunes for exactly that reason. There are lots of other excellent options, which do not have the stupid restrictions that Apple has. The iPod is great, iTunes with DRM is incredibly annoying.

When you download music, it comes in the format that the store supplies it.
WAV is a common format for the DJ market, as it is the best as input for pro audio editing.  Stores that cater to this market, and from which you can buy music in WAV format, include beatport.com and Juno Download
Both of them also offer MP3/320 as an option, so make sure to select WAV.

  • "downgrade" iTunes software/change music from mp4 to mp3?!

I recently upgraded my iTunes software and all my music was changed from mp3 to mp4 format. That's great and all except for the fact that I just purchased a cell phone that has a music player that only supports mp3 files. I would really like to put some of my music on my phone. Is there any way that I could possibly "downgrade" my software or do anything else to turn my music back into mp3's?
    Thanks!

The store has NEVER sold songs in mp3 format. The store files are in either protected AAC format or iTunes Plus format which is not protected. As Chris said, the only thing you can do with the protected format purchases is burn them to an audio CD. If you had purchased the iT Plus files, they can be changed to mp3 format. Just a suggestion, if you need mp3 format files, you may want to take a look at amazon.com, emusic.com, or audiolunchbox.com, just to name a few. The beauty of all of these sights is their downloads have no DRM.

I'm inserting a date with the format 'dd-mon-yy' in a column, it gives the error:- " a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected ". I also tried the TO_DATE function but not successful.
I want to change the Database default Date format 'dd/mm/yy' to 'dd-mon-yy'. Is it possible?
version is (Oracle Server 7.3.2.0). I checked it on version ( Oracle Server 7.3.4.0) with format of 'dd-mon-yy'.
May I keep the both formats at a time?
    Thanks for solution(s),

    you can try with:
    ALTER SESSION
    SET NLS_DATE_FORMAT = 'dd-mon-yy';

It will. If the region code is different, you will be asked to change the code, and it can only be changed a few times.

  • Finding non-DRM'ed content?

The news said that the iTunes store is now selling non-DRM'ed content.
I've never been to the iTunes store before, but I went there just now and I didn't see any way to search for non-DRM'ed content. How do I do that?
    Thanks in advance.
    8G nano   Windows XP Pro

    <blush>
Anyway, one can search for Plus content by checking the box to show only Plus content when doing a Power Search (though there are still glitches in that search). But there's no way to browse only Plus content that I've been able to find.
Probably something to suggest to Apple. I don't know whether the iTunes feedback page or the iTunes music request page would be the most appropriate for such a request.
    Cheers.

  • Any chance of a NON-DRM'd version of the doco?

I mean goodness sakes folks, why does a user guide/manual like this need DRM?  I like to move all my user manuals/guides/etc to my Kindle as well as my other old PDA reading device and Nokia N800.  But I need to convert them to other formats.  And yes, I know I might/might- not be supposed to but if you force it a person can strip the DRM so I can use the manuals in a way I need so why not just offer the doco in non-DRM'd PDF?  Even EPUB would be great as well...I knoooown MOBI is not gonna happen but anything, maybe, pretty please?
I moved to ebooks to save paper plus I have my books with me wherever I wander/land.  So it would be most cool of Adobe to think about this sort of thing...it would save a bunch of frustration on the end user and also and some warm-fuzzy to Adobe's Karma...

Just an error reported back from calibre that the files was DRM'd so conversion was not possible.
Anyway, I think I realized the issue.  I just downloaded the file directly to Adobe Reader then saved and Calibre handled the file just fine, all that remains is some minor formatting adjustments for the small 6" screen size so no huge deal there.  PDF's not NOT a stong suit of the Kindle which bugs me no end, however I do need the fonts larger for my old tired eyeballs and almost always need to convert PDF's so nothing new.  But what was new is the message about the DRM.
However, I did not initially make this connection, but I recently installed Google's PDF reader into Chrome and it took over PDF handling inside Chrome, obviously, and I sense it was that plug-in which induced the problem because I cannot open the other PDF's I had saved in Adobe Reader either.  Whelp, time to disable yet another plug-in...I mean WHY would they mess with the format of the file?  But they did...
Anyway, mystery solved...freaking Google.  oh, well...thanks for the help!!

  • How do i transfer my music on my Windows formatted iPod to my new iMac?

HELP! Just bought a new iMac (yes, I finally converted!), but now I can't transfer/access my music from my Windows formatted iPod to my iMac.
i know that the iPod needs to be reformatted on the iMac but i'll lose all my music, won't I?

*i know that the iPod needs to be reformatted on the iMac but i'll lose all my music, won't I?*
Macs can read Windows formatting so you should be able to connect and use the iPod on your new Mac without any problem. One proviso is that up until now Apple has only fully supported using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac (unless the range has been expanded to include the iPhone and the iPod Touch which I've no experience of). What this means effectively is that if you need to apply a firmware update for your iPod and you wanted to maintain the Windows format you would have to do it on a PC. If you were to try and update a Windows based iPod on a Mac it would be restored and reformatted to the Mac file system and have the Mac firmware installed.
*I can't transfer/access my music from my Windows formatted iPod to my iMac.*
Connect your iPod to your new Mac. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Transfering music in the correct format

how do I tranfer music to an sd card in mpr format in only seems to let me save in xml format and my in car mp3 can not read it can you help

The export function in itunes only exports a text file of the music titles you have in your library.
If you want to put the actual music files onto your sd card, you will need to drag and drop the music from the itunes library window to any location you want.
The drag and drop does not remove the song from the library, just copies it.
Then you can move the music files onto your sd card.
Now if the music in your itunes library is purchased from the itunes music store, it will not be in the mp3 format. Also, unless the music is itunes+, you cannot convert to mp3.
Here is an article from the apple support website on changing music format.

  • "upgrading" protected files to non DRM

    Hey all,
I read that Apple has moved over to non DRM and that protected files that we've bought in the past can be upgraded to non DRM for a fraction of the cost of the song.
Trouble is, I can't work out how to do this.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

It generally is really easy. Make sure that you're logged into your iTunes Store account. If you are and the link doesn't appear, then the Store doesn't recognize that any of your purchased tracks are eligible for upgrade.
Confirm that tracks you have purchased are available in the Store as iTunes Plus. If at least some are, sometimes for various reasons (replacement of a track in the Store with another copy, slight changes in the release identification, etc.) the link between the track and your Purchase History can break, which will result in the track not appearing as eligible for iTunes Plus upgrade even though it exists as Plus in the Store.
If this is the case, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form at the bottom of the Purchase Issues FAQ web page (there is no category specifically for this issue, so I'd suggest just picking one under the Purchases - problem area) and explain the problem to them. It may take a couple of email exchanges to get past the "form" email responses, but eventually they should work out a solution for you. You may need to provide the track name, artist and order number so they can confirm the original purchase.
    Regards.

  • Home Sharing, Non DRM tv shows

For home sharing on my iphone I don't seem to be able to see any tv shows that are non drm. If I change the file from being a tv show to a movie or podcast it shows up. TV shows with DRM do show up. Any one else having this issue.
    iphone 4, os 4.3, windows 7 itunes 10.2.1

I have been able to finally work it out. If you want non DRM tv shows to show up make sure ARTIST is filled out. If you want all the episodes under the one TV heading, you need to make sure the Artist is the same.

    Hello Achates:
I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.
