Change name in the Authorization pop up

Question

I have recently bought a new MacBook Pro and I'm migrated everything from my old computer onto it. This has worked perfectly apart from one thing.
When I first set up the new computer, I didn't migrate straight away because I was still waiting for a firewire cable. So I created a new account called "Tom Irving". Now that I've migrated, I've deleted that account and it's home folder and everything.
The account on the old computer was just called "Tom". This is what I've now got set up as the account on the new one.
This works fine permissions wise, and everything is how it should be apart from this:
When I need to change something, say in the System Preferences, I have to click the little lock sign, and up pops a dialog asking for my password. The default name in this dialog, however, isn't "Tom", it's "Tom Irving". That account no longer exists.
Is there a way to change "Tom Irving" appearing into just "Tom"?

this is quite strange. I've never seen this. the name that should show up in such popups is the full name of the current user if the current user is admin. are you sure it's just Tom? go to system preferences->accounts. what's listed as Full name there? try changing it to something else. does the name in the popup change too?
