Change name of network

I would like to change the name of my internet network. How do I do this with an existing account? cheers!

HI,
Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities)
Select Airport from the Menu then select the Wireless tab.
You can change the wireless network name there then click: Update

How do I change my wireless network name?  Will I have to reconnect all systems in my home that access the network?

Do you have an AirPort Extreme, Express, or Time Capsule base station? Which version of the AirPort Utility will you be using as this is what you will need to use to change the base station's wireless Network Name.
Once you change the name, you will need to reconnect each of your wireless devices to this "new" network.

  • Inability to change name of network

I have had an AirPort Express for about a year and have been pleased with its performance. The one issue I can't seem to resolve, though, is the fact that I cannot change the name of the network from the standard "Apple c0073..." to something more individualized. If I change the network name, I lose all ability to connect or even configure the Express base station. I have to perform multiple hard-resets on the base unit to get it back to "factory settings". Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Is the AirPort Express device "creating" the Apple c0073 network or is it joining a wireless network that is created by another wireless device?
You definitely should be able to change the network name unless the current name is being created by another device. After you change the wireless name, you need to make a wireless connection to it by joining the "new" network by its new name or by using an Ethernet cable connection.

How can I uniquely identify computers on the same network/account specifically for airdrop use?  When I change name on one computer under contacts it changes on all computers.  I would like to change icon and name for each computer.

you would need to setup a VPN and tunnel into your office.
    FYI..the default ports are 3283 and 5900.

How to change name of wifi network?

If you change the name of the wireless network, you will need to log on to the "new" network with each device on your network.
Once you have done this, the device should remember the network so that you do not have to enter the password the next time that you connect.

  • The name of network card is changing

    Hello,
I have network card and wifi card in my notebook. I have updated udev, kernel, firefox etc. Since time the name of network card is changing. Sometimes lan is eth1 and wlan is eth0 and sometimes lan is eth0 and wlan is eth1.
It s problem for me. Becouse I dont use dhcp.
    Any sugestions.

I gave this a shot and I'm still haveing the same problems.
    This is my /etc/udev/rules.d/netdevices.rules:
    KERNEL="eth*", SYSFS{address}="00:0d:56:b3:52:fc", NAME="eth0"
    KERNEL="eth*", SYSFS{address}="00:0e:35:40:91:77", NAME="eth1"
Output from ifconfig (just to show names and macs...
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0E:35:40:91:77
    eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0D:56:B3:52:FC
It seems that udev just ignores the custom rules and its potluck on whether it comes up with the right names or not.  I have another custom rule file in there as well which changes various usb cameras and stick drives into more meaning full names other then sd?1, those rules seem to be ignored as well.
    [edit]Solved!
    The following netdevices.rules works:
    KERNEL=="eth*", SYSFS{address}=="00:0d:56:b3:52:fc", NAME="eth0"
    KERNEL=="eth*", SYSFS{address}=="00:0e:35:40:91:77", NAME="eth1"
It seems that you have to use "==" in comparison operations.  Did this used to be the case?  I don't remember having to use them before and most examples I see use a "=" for both comparison and assignment.  Did they change the rules syntax for the new version or maybe just correct an error that allowed "=" to work as "=="?

  • RE: 1) Changing name and IP address of an AIX 4.2 Server 2)Using NAT

    Daniel,
you (normaly) just have to :
    1) edit the $FORTE_ROOT/fortedef.sh fileand change the value of variable
    FORTE_NS_ADDRESS
    2) shutdown and restart forte environment
    3) put the new values in the control panel of the client and run !
It worked on our site with the same configuration (Aix 4.2)
    Good luck

Objet : 1) Changing name and IP address of an AIX 4.2 Server 2)
    Using NAT to reach forte
    Hello Forte Users :
I have 2 questions to make:
        1)
I've installed a Forte Server Central Node (Release 3.0.F.2) in an
IBM RS/6000  with OS AIX 4.2
(The name of the server is Name_1 and the IP address is
    125.125.50.50 with mask 255.255.255.0)
Nowadays we had to change the name and IP address of this server
lets say to Name_2 and 125.125.60.60 with mask 255.255.255.0.
After that we try to find any reference to old name and IP address
in the forte directory and all of its subdirectories changing them to
    the new ones.
After these changes we found than forte could'nt start the nodemgr
    server.
We have too many reasons to avoid installing FORTE again.
Does anybody know if I have to change anything more to make
    nodemgr server work.
        2)
The second question is about NAT (Network Address Translation).
To reach a Forte Server Central Node from a Forte Client we have
to pass through a Firewall and NAT.
We are researching and at this moment we can not reach the server
from the client, has anybody any suggestion to correctly configure
Forte (Client and Server) to use NAT between them.
If anyone could help me I would be very pleased.
Thank you very much in advance,

  • How do I change name and install Password or pass code

How do I change name and install Password or pass code?

You would do this using the AirPort Utility.
To change the Network Name using AirPort Utility v6.x: AirPort Utility > Select your AirPort > Edit > Wireless tab > Wireless Network Name. On the same tab, you can set the wireless security password.

  • Possible issues changing name of vlan interface

    Hi
I will be making some changes to the way our ASA 5505 is configured over the next few weeks. It is used mainly for our phone VPN clients to connect to our internal CME. The issue is that I shall be changing the inside network to another vlan and another IP address, although the name will be staying the same. I know that this will remove all the config which uses that interface name, such as NAT translations etc but my main concern is that when I put them back in again with the same name it may confuse the ASA in some way and just not work.
Has anyone had any experience with this as I would really like to know possible issues before I get to them.
    Thanks very much in advance

Will it confuse any Backups or Clones OP has made on say a FWHD?

I have an i Mac with airport wireless. What steps do I need to take to change name of wireless(airport)???

You should use Airport Utility, in your Utilities folder (or you can search for it in Spotlight, the magnifying glass in the top right of your screen) to administer the Airport. There, you can change the wireless network settings, including the network name.

  • Why did my base station change names?

For the last 3 years my network had two names. NicTonTimCap and NicTon guest. I wake up this morning to see flashing Amber light and can only find Harry's WiFi Network. The same password worked but why did this happen?
    Thanks,
    Harry

When you open the airport utility go to the wireless tab.. has the name actually changed for wireless..
If so this might all be part of the way Apple is trying to help you automate file transfers by a strange peer to peer process.. although how it can self setup the airport is a mystery..
I would put it down to a fresh bug in Yosemite.. reset the network names to what YOU want.. if it happens again and you have applecare then ring apple to see if they have some new functionality in Yosemite that automatically changes names of the wireless network.
I presume your computer name is Harry (or some part thereof).

  • The password changed for the network how do I change it on my appletv

The password changed for the network how do I change it on my appletv

I work in the maintenance facility at a school district and we have 3 flat screens in different areas all with Apple TV, the I.T department changed the way we log in to the wifi, we use a user name and password now. I have a user name and pass word that I can use for all 3 sets but not sure how to set it up. I could go to our I.T. guys but they are not Apple friendly guys.

  • I changed my home network.

I changed my home network.  The router and all information has changed.  My time capsule stop updating.  I can see the time capsule in the airport utility, but am unable to access it.  How do I add my current capsule to my new network?

Reset it to factory and start over clean new setup;.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer.
Since you run Yosemite in particular the following help.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
