Change number of rings

I've been told that the only way to change the number of telephone rings before an incoming call goes to voice mail can ONLY be done by Verizon. Is this true or can I do it myself? And if so how?

As far as I know it can't be done at all...it's set by Verizon at 30 seconds.

  • Change number of rings to voicemail

I want to change the number of rings or seconds til my phone goes to voicemail.  I don't have enough time to get to my phone before it's goes to voicemail.  I have called Verizon and they say they can't change it, I have to do it through the phone.

This is not an iPhone setting its  a setting on the carrier. There are codes you can dial on your phone to change the setting yourself, but they differ by carrier and they should have told you this
    For Verizon I believe you:
Turn your phone on and press  58#
If you hear a dial tone that beeps three times, enter the number 8 for 8 rings, 6 for 6 rings, etc.
If you hear a regular dial tone, it wants a code...enter the number 46 for 8 rings...Sorry, not too sure of the codes for 6 or 4 rings.
Hope this helps - otherwise call Verizon and they remind them how their service works

  • Changing number of rings - 2310??

I have a Nokia 2310 and have read the manual but I can't find out how to change the number of rings. Currently, it doesn't ring long enough for me to get it out of my bag and answer the call before it goes to voicemail. Is it even possible to change the number of rings??

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The timeout before diverting to voicemail is a network function that can, in most cases, be controlled by the phone.
Go into your call settings and look for "call divert". More specifically, "call divert if no answer". Set it to divert to voicemail (this will be in the menu), and then you will be given a choice of timeouts from 5 to 30 seconds in increments of 5 seconds.
If, after trying this, the timeout is unchanged, then it means that your network doesn't support this.
If you can't find the relevant menus then you can do this manually. First find out what the present settings are by dialling *#61#. Make a note of the number.
Now set the timeout to, for example, 30 seconds by dialling this:
    **61*number*30#
...where number is the number you noted above.
If you get back a message to the effect of "not supported" after either of the GSM commands above, then your network doesn't support changing the timeout duration.

  • Can you change the legth of time (or number of rings) it takes for on iphone 4 to time out making an outgonig call?

Can you change the legth of time (or number of rings) it takes for on iphone 4 to time out making an outgonig call?
Mostly it's to call in for radio contests. The Iphone is really good at making a quick call, but it seems to timeout after 15-20 rings. I realise this is a small thing, but free tickets is free tickets.
Most commenst I see is abotu incoling calls, not outging.
    Thanks.

No. You can't do this with any phone.

Call your provider and ask them to do it.
This is not controlled from the iphone.

How do I change the number of rings on messages. At the moment it rings twice and I miss it. Could do with being quite a few rings more.

This is determined by your carrier. It isn't a number of rings - it is based on time beginning when the call is received at your carrier's servers.
I believe with AT&T in the U.S. the maximum is 30 seconds. This does not equate to a full 30 seconds of ringing with the phone since there is some delay involved between the carrier receiving the call and it reaching the phone.

  • How do you change the number of rings before FIOS goes to voice mail?

Currently my FIOS residential service picks up voicemail after 4 rings, thereby negating my answering machine on my phone. It is then hit or miss for the system telling me if we have a voice mail. I would prefer to use my phone answering machine
How can I change the number of rings on FIOS to 6-8 more rings, in order for my phone answering machine to pick up?
    Thanks

Call your voicemail access phone number and go to settings. There is an option for that.

  • An extra charge for changing the number of rings before voicemail picks up??

After trying all the tips I could find about changing the number of rings it takes before the voice mail picks up (the 58#, trying access setup on the vm, changing it online, etc…), I finally called the customer support line.  I was put on hold for a few minutes (not a problem) only to have the customer service person return to say that he cannot change it because I would have to pay for the "upgraded" voice mail that is not included in my plan (the plan I just signed up for last month). I find it absolutely absurd that moving the number of rings for vm from 4 to 6 justifies an added cost.   If anyone knows the magic on how to do this for a line that is in the Dallas Ft Worth area, I would be very appreciative.  As for the extra charge to adjust your own voice mail, you can draw your own conclusion on how fair that is...
And I don't buy that it is not as simple as it appears... if you can program the thing to pickup on three rings then you should be able to adjust the forwarding  and vm to pick up on 6.  i have never had this problem with any other carrier.

I called tech support, not customer service, and had my rings moved back a few so my answering machine would pick up first.  Voicemail is for back up in case I don't answer call waiting.
    It was free.

  • How do you change the number of rings before going to voicemail on ios7

my phone only rings for like 4 rings then goes to voicemail I need it longer help!?!?

You cannot change that, it is not user programmable. That is handled by your carrier, and it is not based on the number of rings, it is based on time. Call your carrier and see if they can extend the time for you. They may not be able to do this.

  • Changing the number of rings to voicemail?

Is there any way to change the number of rings before voicemail picks up?  Have looked through everything and can't find anything.  I would like to lengthen the number of rings so I don't miss as many calls.

The way you change it is specific to your provider. Here are the instructions to change it on AT&T.
On your phone, dial *#61# and click Send.
Some information should be displayed: number that the calls are being forwarded to and the delay before the forwarding engages.
Write down the number (including +1)
Dial **61*+1xxxyyyzzzz*11*30# and hit Send. +1xxxyyyzzzz is the number you wrote down previously, 30 is the delay in seconds. The delay can be set in 5 second increments, 30 is maximum
Dial *#61# to verify that the new settings are active.
Not sure about the other providers. If I find the instructions, I'll post them.

hi, i have call forwarded my calls from my macpro (skype) to my iphone4s and want to change the number of rings to 15 seconds.  Can someone help please?

You'd need to contact your carrier. They're the only ones who can change that.

8330 Call Forwarding...How do I set the number of rings before calls are forwarded? Right now it instantly forwards my calls but I don't want that. I want to change it so that let's say that if after 5 rings I don't answer the call is forwarded. I've looked everywhere for an answer but have had no luck. Any help would be appreciated. I am with Virgin Mobile if this makes a difference.

Well, call forwarding is a feature provided by your carrier -- it is not a function of the device. However it works for your carrier is how it works. Actually, from what I understand about call forwarding, it normally is an all-or-nothing circumstance...calls forward to the number you've asked them to be forwarded to, keeping you in a DND status. Regardless, though, if your carrier tells you how it works on their system, there's nothing that the device can do to override that. Unless there is some kind of 3rd party app that would do it, bypassing (somehow) the carrier network CF feature...but I've never heard of such a thing.

When people call me, Skype rings far to many times before voice mail comes on.  How do you reduce the number of rings on an inbound call, so that voice mail comes on in 4 to 5 rings?

    Hi, billwalker1125,
Skype does not determine when to send calls to voice mail by the number of rings, but instead by the amount of time that has elapsed.  Check your settings (in Windows, it would be Tools -> Options -> Calls -> Voice Messages -> Start recording a voice message if ...   Remember to Save your changes!
