hello sir
how do i change the number of work processes manually in sap

Hello,
See note

  • Number of DIA work processes

    Hello,
How do we decide the maximum number of DIA work processes (or total number of work processes including others like BGD, SPO, etc) that our server/hardware will support?
Secondly, we found that in the instance profile for one app server, parameter value for number of DIA is set as 30. However, in the SM50 for that instance, we only found 25 DIA work processes (no changes were made after system start in RZ03/RZ04). Any inputs?
    Regards,
    NK

When the instance is started, as many work processes as the sum of the following parameters are started:
    rdisp/wp_no_dia
    rdisp/wp_no_vb
    rdisp/wp_no_vb2
    rdisp/wp_no_enq
    rdisp/wp_no_bt
    rdisp/wp_no_spo
    rdisp/wp_no_restricted
The sum of the parameters must be smaller or equal to the value of parameter rdisp/wp_max_no
    From <http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/en/46/c24a5fb8db0e5be10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm>
Please let me know if your sum> rdsip/wp_max_no ?

  • How can I calculate additional number of work porcesses in SAP instance.

    Hello Sir,
We have an BW server (SAP NetWeaver 2004s) OS- AIX 64 Bit, Database - Oracle 10.2.0.2 and Memory 20GB. Currently we have the work process distribution as follows,
    Dialog - 11
    BTC - 8
    UPD - 4
    UPD2 - 1
    ENQ - 1
    SPO - 1
Total number of wp is equal to 26.
We are facing performance issue from last few months. All dialog work processes are getting occupied and no new users are getting connection to system. We are thinking to increase number of dialog work processes.
My question is 1. How many work processes I can add more?
                            2. What is the procedure to calculate number of processes.
                            3. What memory calculations I need to consider before performing this changes.
You can also suggest any document for reference.
    Regards,
    Sujit

    Hi,
The maximum number of work processes depends on several things like the below.
    1)  Majorly on Your primary Memory
    2)  Hardware capacity
    3)  Operating systems
    4)  SAP version as well...
You need to calculate the work processes with your primary memory.
Every work process should take 150 mb space on memory.. so you need to increase the work processes that should be campatible with your primary memory.
And please read the OSS notes as suggested by our frnds then go ahead with your rquirement.

  • Work process configuration

    Hello gurus,
I'm searching for note or document that describes the stardard sap configuration for work processes specially background work process.
    Please advice,
    Dimitry Haritonov

    Hi Dimitry,
For windows boxes, I generally start with the base recommendation for the number of WP's (not just DIA's) and work backwards from there (balancing the number of DIA's with the number of Batch WP's).
Generally, DIA and BTC wp's consume the same base level of resources but can be set to different limits (as far as memory usage).
Below are some links that further describe the memory settings for windows boxes (wasn't sure if you had a chance to look through these).

  • Stop DIA work process with PRIV mode.

    Hi,
How to stop DIA workprocess with PRIV mode. by searching notes, I find it is possible to setl the max time and max number of the private memory.
    Kind regards,
    Masaaki

    Hello Masaaki,
Before deciding whether to wait for the process to finish by itself or not, i would suggest that you find out the program which is causing the work process to go into PRIV mode. Once this is done, as your technical guys (ABAP) to analyse why this is happening (is the program logic inefficient and hence using so much memory etc).
You have to note that (Dialog) work processes going into PRIV mode is not a healthy sign for the SAP application server.
This is beacuse once the WP goes into PRIV mode it is not available to any other transactions, and we only have a limited number of work processes.
Please make sure the parameters below are defined in RZ10 instance profile:
rdisp/max_priv_time - used to define the maximum time that a work process can remain in PRIV mode. (After this the work processes is terminated and restarted). This is reasonable because beyond the time limit set, it is imperative to assume that the program using the work process is in efficient. (in case a program really needs that much time, it needs to be scheduled as a background job).
rdisp/wppriv_max_no- this parameter defines the maximum number of work processes that can be in PRIV mode. Very useful.
Also, make sure that a parameter ABAP/heaplimit is defined. This ensures that if a program eats up a certain amount of heap memory, the work process being used can be terminated.
And finally please do check if your extended memory allocation is not big enough. the parameter em/initial_size_mb defines the fixed size of extended memory. Increasing this size only if you find that a lot of processes are frequently going into PRIV mode.
    Hope this helps.

  • Increasing Dialog Work Process

    Hi All
In one of our Applicaion Systems we initially had allocated only 2 Dialog Work Processes, now we want to increase this, without reducing any of the other Work Processes.
    How is it possible ?
    Regards
    Biju Kumar

You can increase the number of work processes by either:
increasing the parameter rdisp/wp_no_dia in RZ10 (restart required to take effect)
Or by creating an operation mode in RZ04.
By creating an operation mode you can switch between Operation modes at certain times of the day (SM63).

  • How many work processes are recommended by SAP for 16 GB RAM

How many work processes are recommended by SAP for 16 GB RAM ?

This is the calculation for determining the number of work process according to the available memory  for the system.
    - Number of dialog work processes = RAM/256 (min 2, max 18)
    - Number of update work processes = RAM/768 (min 1, max 6)
    - Number of update2 work processes = RAM/1024 (min 1, max 3)
    - Number of batch work processes = RAM/1024 (min 2, max 3)
    - Number of enqueue work processes = 1
    - Number of spool work processes = 1

  • How many work processes should be configured in ERP?

Hey guys I'm installing ERP 6.0 on a system landscape on AIX 6.1 and Oracle 10.2.0.4.
I wish I had an idea of what is best practice to determine how many work processes can be configured in an instance ?
I give the example of the Quality server:
    Only a Central Intance
Number of Users to Log On: 120
    Physical Memory: 12 GB
    Swap Space: 38 GB
    Thanks for your help
    Desiré

    Hello,
Refer to SAP Note 9942 for maximum number of work process.
Regarding what would be optimal setting in your system, there is no clear cut solution. You have set it first based on your guess for amount of dialog activity, batch jobs etc.
Typically, you should have dialog process double than background processes. Simillary, background process should be double than update, update should be double than update2 and total should not cross more than what mentioned in above Note for your Operating system and SAP release.
Then you keep checking the system any bottleneck for a week or two and accordingly adjust the work processes if required.

  • Work process distribution

    Hello,
For a new project I'm asked to design a work process distribution. I need to allocate the number of work process per application server (# Dia, # batch, # upd, etc....). I have a certain feeling on how I would like to distribute this, but I'm also looking for a "rule of thumb" on how to distribute the number of WP's per dialog server.
Is there anybody who knows of a certain set of rules to help me out with this?
A helpful answer will be rewarded with points.
    Thanks,
    Pascal.

    Hi,
As far as I know there is no such thing as a rule of thumb for work processes but usually you can have 1 dialog for every 10 to 15 users (that´s what I was told at SAP Basis Academy) but also it is a tunning work to provide the right amount of work processes.
Not enough dialog processes and user will get errors or will have to wait too much to get a response, too much and you will be wasting memory. If you have plenty of RAM Memory then go ahead and assign 1 dialog for every 5 users but if not, then you will need to work on it more That´s  the idea behind transactions like ST02, ST03N, etc
I also depends on the correct use of the processes, if transactions that takes too much time are launched over dialog processes, then you will not have enough D WorkProccesses  to work with and the server performance will be affected so in much cases is a good idea to set the timeout parameter for dialog processes so the users avoid launching long processes over dialog instead of background.
Background processes are NOT like Dialog and you should NEVER set such a thing like 1 bkg for every N number of users. BKG works on queues so they are not affecting user "normal" operations.
Use operation modes so BKG processes can run batch jobs during off peak hours so everything will have its job done in a decent time.
As I already mentioned, You could have an approach to how many D, BKG, SPOOL, etc work proceses needs but it is by no mean exact. I am a low experienced Basis consultant and I have seem installations with 50 users to 1000 and right now I´m on a client with more than 100 users concurrently connected and they just have 9 D and 3 BKG and users don´t have extreme performance problems even when running HR long proceses.
Of course you cannot expect to have a system where long processes won´t affect somehow the performance during peak hours unless you have load balancing and all that stuff.
Hope this help a bit to your question.

  • Increase the number of background work processes for data load performance

    Hi all,
There are 10 available background work processes in the BW system. We're doing some mass load to multiple ODS.But system uses only 3 background processes. How can i
increase the number of used background work processes for new data load.
I tried to change number of prosesses with RSODSO_SETTINGS. But no successes. Are there any other settings need to change?
    thanks,
    Yigit

    Hi sankar,
I entered the max proc. number into ROIDOCPRMS. But it doesn't make difference. System still uses only 3 of background processes. RSCUSTA2 is replaced with
RSODSO_SETTINGS in BI 7.0 and this trans. can only change the processes for data activation, SID generation and rollback. I need to change the process numbers for data extraction.

    Hello,
    i habe a question.
How can i change the number of disp+work.exe processes? Currently it run about 17 prozesses.
Through the CCMS tcode rz04 i have changed the number of all processes, also everone is now 1, unless dialog.
    Also
    Dialog is -10
    Background -1
    Update  -1
    Update2 -1
    Enqueue -1
    Spool -1
    Total  17
I would have total about 8  Processes..
    How can i make it?
    Thank you in advance!!!

    Hi,
Are you aware that a lot of documentation is available and that it is possible to read it and even recommended because you would find very easily the answer to your very very basic question in it ?
Hint : Look for transaction RZ10 in the documentation and which parameters control the number of processes.
PS : There are also the forum rules that are also very interesting to read !

  • No changes in Work Processes after restarting the SAP Instance

    Dear All,
I have made some changes in the Application Servers.
I had 22 work processes on my Application Servers out of which, 16 were Dialog work process, 6 Background work processes and 2 Spool.
I changed the instance profile through RZ10,
I made Dialog work process to 14 and Background work processes to 4 and added one(1) Critical Update and one(1) Non-Critical Update without changing the number of Spool work processes which were 2.
After i restart the instance i can see that there are 14 Dialogs 6 Background and 2 Spool.
I cannot see the Critical and Non-Critical Update which i added in the instance profile on both the Application Servers.
When i checked the value of parameter rdisp/wp_no_btc (background) the value is showing 4, but in sm50 the background work processes are 6.
Please can anyone tell me why the update work processes which i added are not shown in SM50 and,
why there are 6 background work processes showing in SM50 where as the current value for the background work process is showing 4 in RZ11.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello All,
I changed the Operation Modes, it started showing the changes i made.

  • PI 7.31 (single stack) posting RFC gives this error: RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE: Processing of change number CO-01234 cancelled (raised by system ECCHostXYZ)

I'm trying to determine if I am dealing with an RFC connection issue or just an error resulting from the RFC itself.
The error says "Processing of change number...cancelled (raised by...ECCHostXYZ)".
I thought this was a problem with my RFC config because it is labeled as "RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE".
However, when I google that specific message, it appears to be an error specific to change order creation.
    Here’s my google search: http://goo.gl/ZhKsm3
    Here is the error again:
RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE: Processing of change number CO-01234 cancelled (raised by system ED1|ecc-host-xyz)
When I check ST22, I see no RFC errors.

    Hi Jody,
No st22 exception is needed to be throwed in order to raise a controlled exception in the RFC.
You would need to check the RFC in the ECC system with the data that you are sending from PI, if the data is the same, you would need to check PI user RFC roles with the ECC roles user that you used to check the data integrity in the ECC test.
To avoid this error you can do a Z RFC to wrap the standard RFC and to control the exceptions errors with a BAPIRET2 strucutre to return to PI.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

  • Maximum number of dialog work process

    Hello gurus,
Could you please let me know what is the maximum number of dialog work process that you can configure in an Netweaver system with ABAP 7.0 before considering to install a new application server to distribute the load?
    Thaks for your help,
    Best regards

    > Just one question, according to the following statement, can I think that I should estimate a usage of 1/4 CPU core by every dialog WP?
No, this was just an example to make clear what I mean.
    > Do you know any SAP note that could help me to estimate the number of WP according to the load of the system?
There is no such note and there can't be.
You could have a system with e. g. 100 users where 10 of them do really produce load, the other 90 may just run a few transactions or do just nothing - so 50 WPs is too much. You could also have a system with 20 users where ALL are entering data all data and doing reporting and stuff so 20 WPs is too less. There may also be processes like ATP that use one background worprocess and spawn a number of dialog WPs you configure in the application. If you configure too few of them, the ATP run will run very log, if you configure too much, the system will be overloaded and slowing down. I can imagine dozens of other examples what may cause load or not.
Because of that it's not possible to give a formular how many WPs to be configured for how many users.
This is a tuning thing and needs to be estimated in the first weeks after a GoLive; watch the system, reconfigure, watch. Check ST03N and SM50/SM66 or book an early watch after some time, they have rough estimates and give usually good advises. Out of theory it's almost impossible to predict something.
