Change of IP in Oracle DB

Hi,
The IP of the system where my Oracle Server was installed is changed.
Now I want to start the DB services and I have started the DB.
However, I am not able to start the listener and I am getting the errors mentioned below.
TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00505: Operation timed out
Can someone please help?

Hi Ajay,
I have changed the hosts file in the /etc folder.
The tnsnames and the listener files do have the hostnames only present.
In my case only the IP has changed and the hostnames are not.
So i figured that I have to change only the hosts file.
I did the changes in the hosts file but still I am encountering the same error.
Is a system restart required?
Thanks for your help in advance.
AkshathaHow you expect us to help you when you don't post anything i asked you for .... NO DB VERSION , NO OS , NO Listener , NO SQLNET.ORA and you want use to solve your issue

Many thanks for the response. We are not changing the UID but there are some errors in the script related to file permissions. So just wanted to know will it have any impact on the database if we change the UID.

  • How to set or change character set for Oracle 10 XE

    Installing via RPM on Linux.
I need to have my database set to use UTF8 and WE8ISO8859P15 as the character set and national character set. (Think those are in the right order. If not, it's the opposite.)
If I do a standard "yum localinstall rpm-file-name," it installs Oracle. I then run the "/etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure" command to set my ports.
Every time I do this, I end up with AL32/AL16 character sets.
I finally hardcoded ISO-8859-15 as the Linux 'locale' character set and set this in the various bash profile config files. Now, I end up with WE8MSWIN1252 as the character set and AL16UTF16 as the national character set.
I've tried editing the createdb.sh script to hard code the character set types and then copied that file over the original while the RPM is still installing. I've tried editing the nls_lang.sh script to hard code the settings there and copied over the original shell script while the RPM is still installing.
    Doesn't matter.
HOW can I do this? If I wait until after the RPM is installed and try running the createdb.sh file, then it ends up creating a database but not doing everything properly. I end up missing pfiles or spfiles. Various errors crop up.
If I try to change them from the sql command line, I am told that the new character set must be a superset of the old one. It fails.
I'm new to Oracle, so I'm treading water that's uncharted. In short, I need community help. It's important to the app I'm running and attempting to migrate from to maintain these character sets.
    Thanks.

I don't think you can change Oracle XE character set. When downloading Oracle XE you must choose to download:
    - either the Universal Edition using AL32UTF8
    - or the Western Euopean Edition using WE8MSWIN1252.
    See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25144/toc.htm#BABJACJJ
If you really need UTF8 instead of AL32UTF8 you need to use Oracle Standard Edition or Oracle Entreprise Edition:
these editions allow to select database character set at database creation time which is not really possible with Oracle XE
Note that changing environment variable NLS_LANG has nothing to do with changing database character set:

  • Changing legend labels in Oracle Graphics 6

    Hello,
i am currently using Oracle Graphics to create barcharts for my reports. My problem is, that i want to change the label used for the shown bars via a parameter. Changing the labels of the X- and Y- axis is no problem with PL/SQL but it seems that the only way to change the legend labels is by using "AS" in the query (e.g. select a_column as LABEL from ...). I really need to change it by parameter.
    thx for any help.

    Nym,
The only way that I've been able to control the name of a label in regards to graphing is to use the Variable Editor and create a variable off of the column, for instance:
The name of the column from the database is call "Black_Catalog". so I create a variable called "The Black Catalog" and in the formula: =[Black_Catalog]
Then in the graph I replace the field that is called =[Black_Catalog] with my new field.  When the legen displays it will show "The Black Catalog".

  • How do i change column names in oracle model?

    Hi,
I am performing a migration from SQL SERVER 7.0 to Oracle 8.1.7.
I have tables that have tables in SQL SERVER with column names
that are "TYPE" and "BODY".(These are generally TEXT datatype
columns that need to be converted to LONG in Oracle. We need
these to be LONG datatype in Oracle because of an application we
are using. LOBS cannot be allowed)
The migration utility renames these columns as "TYPE_"
and "BODY_" and creates the tables in the Oracle Database.
I need to have these tables in Oracle with the same column names
    viz. "TYPE" and "BODY" .
I can create new tables in Oracle with the column names "TYPE"
and "BODY" but cannot change the options in the migration
    workbench for this.
Is there any option or any workaround I can use to change the
column names in the Oracle model?or set the options so that the
Oracle model tables donot modify these column names?
Thanks in advance for all the help.
    Mandar

The words 'TYPE' and 'BODY' are reserved Oracle words. Its best
to go along with what the workbench has suggested. If you have
to keep the original names of the columns trying wrapping double
quotes around them after the data migration is complete. This
may cause a case sensitivity or referential problem later on
    though.

Which docs? Well, that depends on the VERSION of the app server. Not the BRAND as you specified. (Assuming 10g R2, 10.1.2.x, you would look under App Server 10g R2 docs at http://tahiti.oracle.com, click on the System Management tab, and look at Chapter 8 of the "Oracle Application Server >> Administrator's Guide"

  • How to change image resolution in oracle forms.

    Hi Experts,
I am working on oracle forms 10g (Windows7 OS). Can we get the image resolution of an image item in oracle forms? Can we resize the image in terms of resolution?
I have a requirement where user can upload only 1280x720 size images. Either i have to validate the image resolution and give them a message saying 'Only 1280x720 size images are allowed' or simply i have to convert the image to be upload to 1280x720 size and save in the database. If someone could give the solution for the above problem that would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Pramod SR

    1. You need to resample.
    2. You can automate the process.
    1.
    Open one of the images.
Go to Image > Image Size
Set the units to Percent (100)
Change the resolution to 300 ppi (not cm!)
    Make sure Resample is checked
    2. automation
Test the above steps to make sure it works.
Record the steps as an action.
Make a droplet from the action.
Drag the folder with the images to the droplet.

  • How to change NLS parameters in Oracle XE?

    Hi
I have to change some parameters in database using Oracle XE server but I don't know how to do it. I must change these parameters:
    NLS_CHARACTERSET
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET
    How to do it?
    Thanks for help.

Thanks, but I'm newbie and I have to ask you about more details :)
What do you mean when you saying: init file (or spfile)? Where can I find these files?
Registry entry (NLS_LANG) is correct, but when I'm using web based administration application I can see more NLS settings. Unfortunately I can't change them :(
Using XE version I can't (I'm not sure about that) create another instance, there is only one instance created by installer. Is it possible to change NLS settings in this case?

  • Change IP Address on Oracle 9i Windows 2003/2008 Server

If I will change the IP Address on an Oracle 9i windows 2003 Server, in a client/server environment, will that cause problems in the database.
Ofcource I will change the lisner.ora script IP address and I will make new alias names on the clients.
    Thanks in advance
    Dimitrios

    Dear Dimitrios!
If you have a DNS-Server in your network then it should be very easy to change your IP-Address because Oracle uses DNS-Names in its configuration. Therefore you don't have to change the Oracle configurationfiles tnsnames.ora and listener.ora. If you don't use DNS then there also shouldn't be any problems if you change your IP-Address in the tnsnames.ora and the listener.ora files.
    Yours sincerely

  • Changed behaviour when handling Oracle Objects in SQL Developer 3.1

In version of SQL Developer before (and including) 3.0, when one executed - F5, run script, not F9, run query - a query that included an SDO_GEOMETRY (oracle object) object the object's elements where displayed in the output text form.
In SQL Developer 3.1 that has changed. Now, one only gets [MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY] as a placeholder.
Many spatial users prefer the former behaviour.
Has something changed in 3.1 that causes this?
Is there a way that I can get the previous behaviour back?
I program the GeoRaptor SQL Developer extension. GeoRaptor has an Addin that allows it to reformat SDO_GEOMETRY objects in a result set on the fly.
Does one need to do something similar now in SQL Developer 3.1?
If so, can you provide an example.
Finally, are there any plans to release Javadoc for the SQL Developer jar files that an extension developer needs to use when constructing an extension?
    regards
    Simon

See Gary Graham's reply in this thread

There is some history behind this change. It started with a performance issue populating the grid for SDO_GEOMETRY objects:

  • How to change assembely reference to Oracle.DataAccess in prod

    Ok -
In development I installed "ODAC Entity Framework and LINQ Beta (11.2.0.2.30)" so that we could have a 32 bit version of Oracle.DataAccess for ODP.Net.
In Visual Studio 2010 (on Windows Server 2008 R2) I made a reference to:
    C:\Oracle\odp.net\bin\4\Oracle.DataAccess.dll.
    This adds:
    <add assembly="Oracle.DataAccess, Version=4.112.2.30, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89B483F429C47342" />
to the assembly in the web.config.
We set the AppPool to Enable 32 bit applications and everything works great.
For anyone who doesn't know the story here, we do this because Visual Studio 2010 runs in 32 bit so you need the 32 bit ODAC/ODP.net components to get a development environment running.
I then publish the files and move to a 64 bit machine.
    I downloaded the "ODAC112021Xcopy_x64.zip"
    Then ran:
    install.bat odp.net4 c:\oracle odac and I can see the Oracle.DataAccess.dll file at:
    C:\Oracle\odp.net\bin\4\Oracle.DataAccess.dll.
Then added c:\oracle;c:\oracle\bin\;c:\oracle\bin\4 to the System Path.
At this point I would think I just replace the version and PulbicKeyToken in:
    <add assembly="Oracle.DataAccess, Version=4.112.2.30, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89B483F429C47342" />
on production to the versioin installed on prod.
So first thing I do is just remove that line on production to see what error I will get.
And I still get the same error:
System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=4.112.2.30, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)
Actually this is if I move the new dll into the applicaitons bin directory.
If I remove the dll from the directory I get:
Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=4.112.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
So I put the line back in.
I right click on on the new Oracle.DataAccess.dll and click properties.
In the details tab I see verion is 4.112.2.0.
That makes sense. The 64 bit XCopy version is an earlier build then the 32 bit Beta that comes with Entity Framework and LINQ(Version=4.112.2.30).
So on production I change the Version attribute to: 4.112.2.0.
But now I get the same error:
System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=4.112.2.30, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)
(This is with the new dll back in the web app's bin directory as is the rest of the thread).
It's still looking for the same version of the assembly. Why is it doing that?
The web.config has a connection string with the ODP.Net provider type (Oracle.DataAccess.Client).
Which would take from the assembly reference.
It should not care what the version number is.
Could there be something in code somewhere that is specifically looking for the old dev box version?
Just what is the way to make it use the new assembly?
I would think the system would just know where to find the new dll.
Just as in development the add reference dialog knew that the dll was in c:\oracle\... rather then c:\program files(x86)... like out-of-the-box Microsoft assemblies. Because the system knows, right?
    Edited by: 842453 on Mar 7, 2011 1:17 PM

    Hi,
The .NET runtime will always attempt to load the exact version of the ODP assembly that the application was compiled with unless you have some sort of binding redirection in place. We do provide forward redirection in the way of publisher policy files but we do not provide backward redirect, you would have to add this binding redirect to your app.config file. We generally do not recommend you redirect to use an older version although I dotn see any real reason why it shudl not work as long as you are not using any 4.112.3.0 specific features. Loading the assembly that the application was compiled with is a security thing and is the way it works.
The only thing you are doing by adding that reference to the configuration file for 4.112.2.0 is to have that preloaded by the runtime, your application is still compiled with 4.112.3.0 and expects to find that exact version unless you tell it otherwise because we only provide forward redirection when ODP gets installed.
