Change Office 2010 MAK activation to KMS

Hi,
I have a computer with Office 2010 Standard installed and activated with a MAK key
I need to change the activation from MAK to KMS, in all my computers.
I already have a server with KMS host installed and my DNS configured.
How can I do?

Check the following steps listed in the link:

  • Office 2010 MAK Activation

I want to deploy Office 2010 Professional Plus to my users and activate it using MAK. I tested the deployment using a startup script in a test environment and the product installed silently according to the settings in the MST I created using OCT. The
only problem seems to be activation - it requires the user to have administrative privileges to activate Office and the UAC prompt (Windows 7 Enterprise) pops up when the user tries to activate. Is there a way to make office automatically activate itself -
either immediately after installation or after the trial period expires? Windows 7 does this 3 days after installation, does Office offer this feature? It'd be quite dull if automatic activation was not available since all the effort in creating a deployment
that does not require administrative credentials from the user would be useless when in the end an administrator must clear the UAC prompt manually. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi Guys, I am having the same problem as yours Kathy and Darius, problem in product key activation for Project 2010. It's not working even if you use AUTO_ACTIVATE = 1 via OCT, or changing the reg value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform],  I
even tried using the /act,  cscript ospp.vbs /inpkey:, still I am having the ERROR
    CODE: 0x80072EFD and still requires
a Product Key Activation..... Does anyone from you already figured out on how to fix this problem on a limited user account? thanks in advance!!!

  • Change Office 2010 key on KMS Server

    Hi!
Not sure if this is the right part of the forum, but I'll try!
Recently a company I work for changed provider for Office 2010 and the key that is listed in the KMS-server is wrong.
How do I change the current key to the new one?
Running slmgr.vbs /dlv all gives me the following info about Office 2010:
As marked above, the product key is wrong, this is what I need to change.

Just input the desired product key, this will replace the current product key with the new key:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624357(v=office.14)
Manually install the Office 2010 KMS host key and activate
If you want to manually enter the Office 2010 KMS host key and activate it, use the slmgr.vbs script. For more information, see
Configure the Office KMS host later in this article.
Open an elevated command prompt, and then run the following commands:
    slmgr.vbs /ipk <NEW Office 2010 KMS host key>
    slmgr.vbs /ato <Office 2010 activation ID>
The Office 2010 activation ID is bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d16864.

what does the client side need. Do they need a kms key? how do I check
on the KMSclient, and/or on the KMShost, to check, you can use:
    cscript slmgr.vbs /dli all > c:\kmsout.txt
(this will output all possible Windows and Office licenses to the output file, and shows the status of each)
When you install Windows or Office by using VL media, by default these are pre-configured with KMSclient product key.
In case the machine may have been reconfigured with a different product key, and you find that you need to reconfigure back to a KMSclient product key, the Office KMSclient product keys are here:

  • Office 2010 version & activation

Has anyone been able to create a report to show office 2010 version 14.0.4567.00? Currently I see only 14.0
Is there a report to show if office products are activated?

I'm not sure you'd be able to file that sort of report, unless you can extract a registry value in a report? Activation is done by the KMS Client under Windows and if you have a KMS server hosting that activation, you can export the hostnames of the workstations that have registered, which time, and in which "state" they are in. If you're using MAK or another non-KMS variant, I don't know of a way.
As for the version, look through the KB lists until you see the KB or patch that matches the version you're looking for and see if that will populate the report?

  • Windows 8.1-Office 2010 Product Activation Failed

I've tried suggested fixes from other posts, but haven't been able to resolve this issue...we recently purchased several Dell Venue 11 Pro tablets with Win 8.1 Pro. MS Office Professional Plus 2010 installs fine, but within a short time we get a 'product
activation failed' message in all Office programs. After inputting the MAK activation code, it seems to accept it and goes through finishing installation (which I found odd), but after shutting down the program and restarting and even rebooting the computer,
the "Product Activation Failed" message reappears. I have tried numerous times and even went through the telephone activation which seems to complete successfully without error, but does not clear the failed message. I have attempted running the
activation wizard as the network admin too, to no avail.
We use this version of Office 2010 on XP, Vista and 7 workstations with no issues; only issue is on Win 8.1 devices.
Any assistance or advice is appreciated.

    Hi,
As this license issue is related to office, to receive better support, it's recommnended to seek help in the office forum.

  • Office 2010 Professional activation on new computer

    Hello,
I have Office 2010 Professional and it was installed on my old computer, but since it crashed (motherboard went bad) I bought a new computer. Since the old computer doesn't work I can't uninstall Office 2010 Pro from it.
My question: Will I be able to install and activate it on the new computer, as it is the retail boxed version of Office (not OEM or product key card version)?
If yes, can I just select activate using the Internet or will I have do this by phone?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
you should be able to successfully activate this product.
Try internet activation first, if that does not succeed, telephone activation (automatic) or assisted, may be needed.

For formal advice on Licensing, contact your reseller or MS directly, since VL agreements are complex, and there are various types, with differing Product Use Rights, terms & conditions.
It sounds like you might have purchased the perpetual license, so I'm not sure what you mean by "valid up to 2016"?
Perpetual, is perpetual (forever). But in practical terms, once the product reaches end-of-support, even activating can be problematic if you need help, or the activation service is no longer offered (as is the case for Office2003 Retail products, anyway)

  • Office 2010 applications frequently Not Responding

Desktop config: Windows XP SP3 + Office 2010 + SP1 activated via KMS
We seem to be getting a large number of cases where the Office 2010 application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) locks up and just displays 'Not Responding'
The only clue we can see if that in ALL cases just before the Not Responding issue occured the following was logged in the clients event log - there are no other event logged such as application hangs.

    Max -
No offense intended, but while I agree that this could be the case, your answer is for XP and I find it lacking a good solution with a rather bland explanation.
I'm seeing this problem with Windows 7, but we are not using a KMS, however the OPPSVC does run rather frequently, as seen in the Event Logs.
When opening Word documents in Office 2010, the computer will "hang" and applications show the "Not Responding" message for several minutes before returning, if at all. It will not happen every time the application is opened, and happens regardless of whether
or not Word is already open at the time the document is opened. It almost seems as though the Office Platform Protection Service is the CAUSE of the problem, and when looking at the process in SysInternals Process Explorer, I don't see anything out of the
ordinary that would explain why the system resources are being tied up by that service, although I admit I have not been able to capture the problem when it's occurring because it happens pretty randomly.
I'm less convinced that there is a third-party software causing the problem and more convinced that if the OPPSVC is already running, and you happen to open a document at the exact same time that the service fires off to do it's check, it enters a minor
race condition of some kind and either never responds, or takes a long time to resolve/timeout.
This issue is having a major impact during sales demonstrations that my organization does because it causes the entire demonstration to pause or crash and is totally unacceptable. All of our licenses are in order and I can't shut off the OPPSVC to verify
if it's causing the problem because Word will not start if the service is disabled.
A better solution would be much appreciated.

  • Win7 - Using KMS Server for Office 2010 - How can you query that it's actually using KMS?

    Hi All,
Our Desktop Support alerted me to an issue in which a client received a pop-up notification about activating Office within 30 days.

    Hi,
We might consider to use Volume Activation Management Tool to check the Activation Information:
Reporting Activation Information Using Volume Activation Management Tool 2.0
Or we could take a look into the application log for event ID 12288, 12289 as well as 12290. (the 12288 and 12289 should be in pairs: client query-kms response)
More information, please take a look at the below articles:

  • Rearming Office 2010, the CMID not changing

    Hi
I use MDT to deploy Windows 7 images.  I have Office 2010 in the image.
    I install Windows7, Office 2010 then rearm Office 2010 using c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform\ospprearm.exe
which successfully completes.  I've tried with and without a administrative cmd prompt.
I then sysprep and capture the image, then deploy.
Its been working fine, but in my latest image its not longer working.  When I deploy the image, Office 2010 is activating on the KMS but running cscript C:\program files\microsoft
office\office14\ospp.vbs /DCMID on the client they have the same CMID.
I've tried rearming again on one of the new clients, and then checked the CMID and it didn't change.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
There are a number of reasons why this can occur.  For example:
Not running sysprep /generalize on your image.       Note that sysprep /generalize
is required when creating an image.  See KB162001 for more information
Running sysprep with unattend.xml that contains the      <SkipRearm> setting set to 1.  It is not recommended to create      images with this setting
but if you do use it you must set it to 0 or      remove it before you reseal the image for the final time
To determine if you are encountering this you can use the Key Management Service Log do the following:
1.On your KMS host open Event Viewer
    2. Right click the Key Management Service Log and choose “Save all events as”
    3. Change the Save as type to Text(Tab Delimited)(*.txt)
    4. Save the file as KMS.TXT
    5. Close out of the Event Viewer completely
    6. Open Excel
    7. Click File, Open, and browse to KMS.TXT
    8. You should see the Text Import Wizard. Choose the following options
        Delimited
        Start Import at Row: 8
        Delimiters: Comma
    9. When complete the data may look all messed up. Don’t worry we will correct that
    10. Click the upper left of the spreadsheet to select the entire spreadsheet
    11. Click Data, Sort, In the Sort By selection choose “Column D”
    12. When complete you should see the data sorted in columns.

  • I need report about office 2010 licensed or not

    hi,
I need to make report about microsoft office 2010 licensed, activated or not on all pc's, how can i generate it or make my custom collection and query ?
    any help !!
    Ahmed Sherif

One of doing this would be to use Compliance Settings.
    With the information found here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/odsupport/archive/2010/08/11/how-to-check-the-activation-type-and-status-of-office-2010-installations.aspx
You could create a script that you combine with Compliance Settings and use the information returned by Compliance Settings (Compliant or Non-compliant) to create a Query or a report.
You might have a look at Asset Intelligence classes i.e SoftwareLicensing,
or a third option could be to see whether the information exits in WMI (I have never looked for it myself)

HiI am trying to setup KMS on 2008 for activating WIndows 7 Office 2010 Citrix Virtual machines. At first I did not have a KMS key so I had to call Microsoft (it was a MAK Key). the kms count of 50 would be relating to the windows client licence, as windows client requires 25 to begin activating and stops incrementiing at 50 (double 25).
windows server is 5 to begin and stops at 10
office 2010 begins at 5 and stops at 10.
so, ignore the count of 50 as that's not what you are interested in.
ensure you are using "cscript slmgr.vbs /dli all" on your kms console, as wscript will not show you the whole story in a pleasing way.
i paste or redirect the output into a text file so i can read it more easily.

  • Offline Activation issues with Office 2010 Professional Plus

I have a volume license for 17 seats for MS Office 2010 Professional Plus, along with a MSDN license which authorizes us to have 50 seats.
I have activated the software offlline via the telephone.  After about six months the licenses go inactive and requires me to reactivate the product again.  This has happened serveral times.
The network consisting of three servers: One Domain Controller, two member servers one of which has Exchange 2010 and the other is the endpoint management secrutiy server.  There are 17 clients with windows 7.  The network does
    not connect to the web.
I have been on the phone with support but the level of the help desk has not been very informative.  In the 90 minutes that I was on the phone, I was directed to go to various websites, i.e. volume licensing ...  these sites were not
helpful. Toward the end of the phone support I was finally transferred to a U.S. representative.  This individual stated that I would need to have a support contract in place prior to recieving help for a product that should install and be activated without
    an issue.
I do not have a KMS, I'm completely isolated from the Internet and would like some direction on this matter.

Hi, this is a public/community forum, not an official support channel, but we can try to help you.
VL editions of Office can be activated by either KMS product key (the default pre-embedded key) or by MAK product key.
KMS doesn't require any kind of web connection at any time (you could activate your KMS host by telephone activation. Your KMS clients then contact your KMShost only, via your internal network. No internet connection is needed)
Or, you can use MAK. MAK requires you to "install" your CSVLK product key in each computer (overwriting the pre-embedded KMSclient pkey) and then activate each computer. You can activate MAK installations via internet or telephone.
Typically, once an MAK pkey is activated, it remains activated, unless the computer is subjected to "hardware changes" or some form of data restore or recovery.
Although you don't have KMS implemented, you do seem to have enough computers (the minimum is 5) to consider KMS.
6 months is an interesting milestone. 180 days is exactly the timeframe for a KMSclient to become unlicensed if it been unable to contact a KMShost.
Perhaps you could check the current licensing configuration/status on a couple of computers, to confirm their current situation?
    - on a computer, open an elevated (run as admin) CMD console
    - execute: cd \Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14
    (or on a 32bit OS, execute: cd \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
    - execute: cscript ospp.vbs /dstatusall > c:\osppOUT.txt
This will produce the text file, showing all *possible* Office licenses, and the currently installed one should show as "Licensed".
You can post the results back here for us to review for you. (there is only a partial pkey displayed, so nothing sensitive will be revealed)

  • MAK key asking to activate Office 2010 every 90 days?

Here's a good brain dumper!  I have 40 HP laptops that our students use occaisionally with a volume-license.  So they are off network most of the time.  We set them up on MAK keys instead of our KMS.  We use a program called
Deep Freeze so that the PC configuration can not change once it has been set up and frozen.  As I understand, the MAK key activation is forever.  So why would Office 2010 be asking us to activate every 90 days.  This takes a tech 2-3 days to
unfreeze--activate again--and then freeze the PC once more.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Carey Carter,
As far as I know, Deep Freeze is a kernel-level driver that protects hard drive integrity by redirecting information being written to the hard drive or partition, leaving the original data intact.
If one hard disk fails and it is replaced, that computer must be reactivated.
