Change outline withou rules file

Hello All,Does anybody knows how to do that? I need to use the esbBuildDimension function, but i don't want to pass a rules file. I've seem in the Essbase interface that it's not possible, when you try to load database and check the "change outline" option, it asks for a Rules file, if no one is selected. Whatsoever, i was wondering if anyone has passed throug this problem.Thanks in advance,Poleto - System Analyst.

Query regarding Metadata load in Essbase using rule file

In our application,we are loading metadata using Essbase rule file and here we are facing one problem.Suppose we have to load a level 0 member called "xxxx" under two different parent,assume the parent members are Parent_AAAA and Parent_BBBB.But our requirement is the consolidation operator for the first occurrence ( i.e under Parent_AAAA) is "+" and for the shared member under Parent_BBBB is "-".But,when we are loading using rule file the consolidation operator for the shared member always being loaded as "+".Is there any trick to change the consolidation operator for shared member other than changing it manually in outline?

I don't think there is a way to change the default setting.
However, what you can do is to have a different load rule and different text file with only the metadata that you want to have an exception for shared members. That way, you can achieve it as you do not have to change the existing rule file.

I have a outline having 1 dimension "Terms" as a account type and data storage as "data store".Now i am trying to load members using rule file.

like "allow property changes" and allow formula changes....in dimension build settings..the rule shows valid ..but during dimension member load it is giving me the folowing error

\\Member Terms has no value source. Aggregate storage outlines require non level-0 members in accounts dimension to be either non-stored members or have internal/external formula.
\\Member [Terms] has an unspecified error.
but if i am removing "~O" property with "O" only in data source file then the dimension member load is suuccessful...
wat i feel is anyhow the "dimension property change is not being set"...
can any one please tellme wat option i m missig to check in rule file..??

Joining Fields
You can join multiple fields into one field. The new field is given the name of the first field in the join. For example, if a data source has separate fields for product number (100) and product family (-10), you must join the fields (100-10) before loading them into the Sample.Basic database.
Creating a Field by Joining Fields
You can join fields by placing the joined fields into a new field. This procedure leaves the original fields intact. Creating a field is useful if you need to concatenate fields of the data source to create a member.
For example, if a data source has separate fields for product number (100) and product family (-10), you must join the fields (100-10) before you load them into the Sample.Basic database. If, however, you want to preserve the two existing fields in the data source, you can create a field (100-10) using a join. The data source now includes all three fields (100, -10, and 100-10).

How to change SQL data source in rule file

Hi there, I use many rule files to load dimension and data with EssbaseSQL interface. (100-200 rule files!).When need to cahnge information for data sources, do Ihave to change it always with EAS interactively ?Is there any way to cahnge the information of the data sourcesin batch mode or with command?

iitobs: There are API calls (in at least C and VB that I found) that can use a rule file, and even copy or create one, but none that will modify a rule in any way. Even the "create rule" API call simply reserves the name so that someone else can't create one with that same name until you manage to copy it over from somewhere else - it doesn't create a new rule file, nor does it allow you to set anything in the rule. You have to use EAS to manage rule files internally.

How to change the Rule file Pointing Automatically?

Is there any automated way to change the rule file pointing for any application \ DB.. If so, can anyone ellobrate it briefly.....

Do you mean you want to use a dimension/data rule that you created in one database and use it in another? Or do you mean you want to reassociate the rule with its new database?
The former is easy -- copy (or not, the rule can be local) the rule to the new location and use MaxL/Esscmd to load data/dimensions.
If you mean the latter, I don't know of a way to do that -- typically copying a rule file would only occur when the dimensionality is the same.
Or do you mean something completely different?

In rule file , i have used delimiter as comma and
I am trying to combine field1 and filed2 to get the result as xxxxyyyy.
Result is coming in one filed only but value is coming with spaces in between xxxxx (----space---) yyyy.
Note :- just for understaning purpose ,i mentioned as (-------space---) it nothing blank spaces.

Create Outline by a bimension build rule file

How we can create a new outline by a rule file. I am able to create the rule file but don't know how to use to create the outline. Please help.

After making a rule file:
Right Click on the database
Select Load Data
Check Buid only in the mode
Then locate datafile and rulefile.
Or click on the outline..
then in Menu select Outline menu, then update outline.

Building BSO using ASO Rules file

Hi All,
We are building a new application where in we want to have both ASO and BSO. Eventually we wanted to do partition between these two cubes.
We already have a fully functional ASO with data loaded into it. This ASO also has bunch of rules files using which the ASO cube was built.
We need to build a new BSO and it should have same outline as ASO and in order to achieve this as used the same rules file that are in ASO. I already built the BSO usinng ASO rules files
My issue is with the dimension which are deifned as Multiplw Heirarchy and I would appreciate if some one can help me how do i define them in BSO. Also if some one canhelp me understand what are additional changes that needs to be taken care when I am building BSO using ASO rules files
I am trying to apply a caluclation which is in ASO and I am getting following error -- Error(1200337) - Error compiling formula for [Feb YTD] (line 1): [)] without [(]. As part of my research i found that error code is very generic. I checked the caluclation for missing ) or ( but everything looks good

Your ASO formulas will not work in BSO cube. ASO uses MDX formulas and BSO uses Essbase calc script language. There is a guide in the technical reference that helps convert from one to the other.
As far as multiple hierarchies, BSO does not have this concept. You should be able to load the hierarchies as is with perhaps a few changes to the load rule to address how to handle shared members.
You will not have a direct one to one from BSO to ASO. They are a different architecture and as such have variances that are not 1 to 1 compatible.

Confusion in editing a rule file

Hi,
We have changed a member "Payment" to "High Payment" in our outline. So to avoid data load issue, we have updated our rule file to replace "Payment" with "High Payment".
But the issue here is we also has some other members like "Tax Payment", "Foreign Payment"... Because of the rule file update as mentioned above, we are getting data load error like
"Tax High Payment Not found in database"
"Foreign High Payment Not found in Database"
Can anyone suggest me to fix the issue.

Normally we check "match whole word" box to avoid this kind of issue. But this time we couldn't get away from this by checking the box alone.

UDA Defination in Rule file

 I am trying to create a Rule file to build my Dimensions. TheDimensions get built up properly without any issues as long as I donot have any UDA's defined in it. As an added comment to the previous poster, you might want both "Allow Property Changes" and "Allow Association Changes" so that both UDAs and Attributes can be successfully updated. If your Essbase version contains the option, you will also need to check the "Allow UDA Changes" option which only becomes enabled if property changes are first enabled. As for your question regarding Declared vs. Actual dimension sizes: A "Declared Dimension Size" is a count of the total number of members in the dimension. An "Actual Dimension Size" is the same, but less the Dynamic Calc, Shared and Label Only members. The numbers you see are simply a list of the declared or actual sizes of each dimension in order.

How to get an account with an IsICP -"R" attribute calculated in the HFM Rule file

Till recently everything was going fine with the calculations in our HFM setup ( Version 4.1)
We have say around 8 Expense accounts which roll up into a Parent account say ALL446 which finally rolls up into Operating Expenses.
Operating Expenses

And we have a calculation in the rule file as below
HS.EXP "A#BE FIXED COST = A#Operating Expenses +A#SGA - A#BE VC OP F10"
This was calculating correctly till we did the below change
Added IsICP attribute to couple of accounts say 222446 and 242446 ( in the above example) in the metadata which finally rolls up into Operating Expense.
Note: we did not add any Plug account attribute to the accounts
Now the problem what we have in hand is -> Fixed Cost is not calculating correctly.- It happens that the two accounts for which we added the IsICP are not showing up in the calculation and the data in those two accounts are not adding up in Fixed Cost.
POV in GRID/Excel -> actual,2013,periodic,<Entity Currency>, ICP Top, AllCustom1, AllCustom2, AllCustom3, None( for custom4)
But when we retrieve Operating Expenses in Excel - it is showing the correct amount, even in the grid - but looks like when the rule tries to calculate Fixed Expenses using the above rule - these accounts are not adding up in the Operating expenses.
I tried the formula ( to check what number is coming into Fixed cost ) - the result is zero - But in the grid/excel I see amount for acct2. Same POV as above

and if I add & Tops to the account like below ( getting some weird number instead of what is there in acct2)

Questions:
1) Where exactly I am going wrong ?
2) Is it MANDATORY to have a Plugaccount attribute when we have IsICP turned to "R" ?
3) What will happen if we do not have a Plugaccount for the IsICP account ?
4) How to correct the formula to make sure I get the number in the acct2 into Fixed Cost??
5) Do we need to have the IsICP turned on to the immediate parent of the account having IsICP and the Top parents of the account too??
6) Is it possible to get the exact number what we have in 222446 into BE Fixed Cost account via Rule?- why I am not getting it

1) why was I not getting the formula right when I use & Tops
I'm assuming that BE Fixed Cost has N for IsICP, in that case you can not write to invalid intersections as it would attempt to use the same ICP information

If you want it to rollup, yes you would need that. We have all Parent accounts as isICP set to Y and top member to ICP Entities so that they roll up
5) which will have priority the rule or the Grid where we have the calculated member like the BE Fixed Cost - because in the grid I had icptop, allcustom1,2 3 and when had & Tops to the account - I got some weird numbers...
I'm not following the question here, grids are just really a display mechanism, rules will handle all of the calculations.

You dont need to create a rule file. You can create a alias table like this in a notapad

1)Open the outline in edit mode.
2)Select Outline > Import alias table.
3)In the Open dialog box, select the alias table import file.
4)Click OK.
go to outline properties and the new alias table must be made Set as active to view the alias names.

Load Parent-Child dimension with attributes by rule file

Well, I've cracked my head open while banging against this wall.
Task is plain & simple:
How can I load build dimension from such table, using rule file?
Data

I want to load both product dimension and attribute by single rule file (neither of these dimensions exists in database before load), so I do the following:
1) Set dimension build settings, creating dimension Products (marking it P\C generated, sparse), having an attribute dimension AttributeDim
2) Mark the fields as Parent, Child and AttributeDim of dimension Products
After loading rule file a get three types of errors:
a) "Base member (Balls) association level does not match base dimension association level" -- does this mean that I cannot assign attributes in P\C way?
b) "Record #327 - Can not uniquely identify member by Balls (3335)
Balls Ball_8 Round" -- That's strange, I thought member should be identified by Ball_8 (and this column is unique)
c) "\\Record #418 - Error in association transaction [Ball_8] to [Round] (3362)"
I've read all I could find on topic from this forum, network45 board and going to start my way through metalink3, but maybe some kind soul will rescue me from drowning in information ocean?

Hi,
Outline is blank at the start of load and I expect dimensions Product and ProdAttribute to be added.
Generations are unapplicable, since I can't turn this parent-child dimension (it's ragged) into generation one.
And, by the way Integration Services manages to do this somehow, why rule files wouldn't?

using rules file how to create consolidation signs like +,-,%,*etc..in the outline.

You need them in a seperate column in your dim build then tag them as a "Property" from the Dimension Build Properties tab.
