Change pointer for Master data

Hello Experts :
If I Configure and Activate Change pointer ,so will it record only existing change or it will update new entry also
Example : Did changes in vendor master payment terms (I know change pointer will work for this).
But if I create any new vendor in system 1 will change pointer will record this change and going to update system 2 and will create this vendor in system 2 ?

the graphic in the docu cleary says create/change master data will create change pointers:

You make the settings for change transfers in transaction *CFC9 (Change Transfer
for Master Data setting)*
For material masters, customers and vendors, the change transfer can occur
periodically or can be executed online immediately. You also have the option of
deactivating the change transfer.
You can also configure an immediate change transfer for work centers and
resources. In this case, the change transfer only concerns the header data of the
individual work center capacities.

ALE change pointer error - master data

Hi friends,
While loading master data (customer,material and order number) all delta,we faced the error "ALE change pointers are not set correctly".
In the discussions posted earlier,it was said that the change pointer in BD61 activation would solve the issue.
If i do that now,whether my other delta loads will be affected or it doesnt have any relation to my other transactional deltas.Pls clarify me.
Also explain me the reason fot this error.

Why change pointers for master data, why not change message?

Hi Gurus,
I have one doubt about Idoc.
When changes to master data has to be sent Change pointers are configured and used. (CDPOS & CDHDR). In case of the transaction data change change idoc is used as is the case with orders (we use ORDCHG for ORDERS message type to send the chnage details to a order which was already sent to other system.
Why we can't use change idoc or message type whatever, instead of Chnage pointers in case of master data or vice versa in case of transaction data.

Change pointers are getting stored in the tables BDCP and BDCPS. As SAP suggests these tables should be as small as possible. And Master data are not much frequently changed data.
As you compare with the transactional data, you need to change them many times in the real scenario. If we also process the transaction data via chnage pointer, these changes BDCP is getting more and more entries.
RBDCPCLR is the program used to process the change pointer. If you have much data in the BDCP table, this program will take much time to run.
So, we use the change pointers for the master data only.

Changing macro for master data files

Hi experts!!
we maintain master data(attributes,texts,hierarchy) for one infoobject in a Macro work book.The work book contains many sheets and we maintain data in one sheet and then click on 'do it all ' .....it updates all other sheets and at the same time generates two files....one for attribute and texts....one for hierarchy.....
now my client wanted me to introduce one new level in hierarchy..so I added one more column in the sheet where we maintain data and clicked on 'Do it all'.......its generating two files as usual....in master data(attribute and text) file...data seems to be right...but hierarchy file seems to be wrong....I think I have to change Macro program(I guess) so it includes newly added column...Am I right?
Can any one advise where and how I can do changes so it generates right hierarchy files?(because while I am running hierarchy process chain,its showing error like..'Error in Hierarchy structure')

This is only a sample repository. You need to have the MDM components already installed to use it (Console, Server, & Data Manager at a minimum).

Change pointer for HR master data is not getting generated in table BDCP

I have done all the required configuration for change pointer for HR master Distribution and it was working fine few days back. Now suddnly it has stopped working.
Can anyone assist me on how should i debug it.

Hi,
It was a good question ... SAP seems never designed the change pointer to handle transactional data IDocs. Only for master data IDocs distribution purposes.
It may due to volume data ... the transactional data can change many times within a day compare with master data which hardly change or once a while.

Long DDIC Activation for Master Data Change During Transport

Good Morning Folks,
During transport of a change to a custom master data object to production, the data dictionary activation is taking a very long time and using a very large amount of space.
The change to the master data object was adding three additional navigational attributes. This master data is not time-dependant. The master data contains about 1.2 million records and has 49 active navigational attributes u2013 including the three new ones. The Data Dictionary activation is executing report SAPLRSDU for more than 8 hours and is using upwards of 52GB of temp filespace (of 92GB allocated) during this time. To the best of our knowledge, it looks as if it is trying to recreate or repopulate the /BIC/Pxxxx table of the master data. It looks like it's reading billions of records (probably the same 1.2 m records over and over.)
There are no errors in any logs that we can see.
Previous changes to this master data object have been successful, and reasonably fast. And the transport of this change from Dev to our QA environment was very fast.
We still need to get this change in, as well as additional changes that are dependant. Why would this take so long, and is there anything we can do to get this to run faster?
BTW: We are on 3.5 (but looking forward to NW7.)

Usually adding nav attributes would mean that the X and y tables get regenerated...
Also do you notice reads only on the P-Table or other tables which have this object as well..?
If it is only the P Table - try refreshing the stats for the same...

BW - Delta for Master data not loading

Hello All,
I am not able to load delta for master data of vendor and material.
The initial load works fine but when I load delta it gives an error
" The extraction program does not support object 0vendor"
" ALE change pointers are not set up correctly"
Do i need to activate the change pointer in BD61. I was not sure so checking up with all experts.

Hi Ravi,
We faced the same problem as you for <b>0MATERIAL_ATTR</b> and we solved it by the following steps,
1. Delete the previous Delta Init for the InfoObject
If you have access to R/3 Side you can follow the steps or you can follow the BW Steps
Goto RSA7 ->Select and Delete the Init for the InfoObject
<b>From BW Side</b>
InfoPackage-> Inti for Source System -> Select & Delete
2. Execute the Init InfoPackage for the InfoPackage again.
3. After successful completion, execute the delta InfoPackage.
We have have got resolved by doing these steps and it may help for your problem as well.

I am not sure if the extractor enhancement methods, setup table initialisation for Master Data different from transaction data.
I am trying to do a delta init with initialisation of Setup table (OLI7BW) for 0CUSTOMER_ATTR. And I am not able to see any records in RSA7. Althought RSA3 shows 10 data packets and 1000 records.
What does that mean.
What I want to achieve is all the records a fresh for a few master data datasources since they were refreshed last month. Since then they were not being used.
Kindly help me as soon as possible.

For your information there is no conecpt of intialisation for master data.

As said there will be no setup tbale concepts for masterdata, the changes for masterdata follows the delta pointer concept(i.e whenever changes to standard masterdata table happens the message class trigger the delta pointer for those changed records and post in RSA7).So always u see in RSA7 the changed records for masterdata tables

Steps for master data loading by using process chain

I want to load the Master data by using the process chain . Can anyone tell me the step-by-step method for loading the master data .

Hi,
The process os loading master data is similar to transaction data in terms of using the infopackages.
First you have to load Attr followed by texts and hierarchy.For master data you have to include the process type called as Attribute change run.This can be included as a separate process type or using the AND process.

About delta loading for master data attribute

Hi all,
We have a master data attribute loading failed which is a delta loading. I have to fix this problem but I have two questions:
1. how can I find the those delta requests because I need to delete all these failed requests first, am I right ? Master data is not like cube or ods that we can find the requests in Manage, for master data how can we find them ?
2. Could you please let me know the detailed procedures to perform this delta loading again ?

Look.....for master data.....no need to delete request from the target..........just make the status red.......and repeat the load.....But problem is that master data sometimes does'nt support Repeat delta..........if u repeat......then load will again fail with Update mode R.........in that case u hav to do re-init.......
1) delete the init flag.......(In the IP scheduler >> in the top Scheduler tab >> Initialization option for source system)
2) Init with data transfer(if failed load picks some records)..........otherwise .....init without data transfer.....if the last delta failed picking 0 records.......
3) then Delta.......

Unable to generate "Export data source" for Master data infoobject

Hi Gurus,
I'm in BW 3.5
I need to generate "Export data source" for a master data info object.
I followed below steps:
I ticked the checkbox "Characterist. is export data source" in the master data Info object maintenance screen.
In the Infosource area, for the desired Infoobject --> Right click --> Generate export datasource --> a dialog box displays saying "The generation of DataSource was successful"
Problem:
Even after refreshing, etc.. I couldn't find the generated datasource 8**** for the above master data. I also tried to replicate the datasource from the myself source system, but couldn't find it even there. I don't know where the generated export data source is hiding ???
Could anyone please help ????

Hi Venkat,
I guess that after creating an export datasource for infoobject this DS should appear in the RSA1-Source systems - MYSELF - datasource overview (with name starting with 8). Since it's a datamart, it should appear also as system generated infosource. And in this case you would be able to assign in URs of data target the appropriate infosource (make sure that in Infoproviders tab of RSA1 you have inserted your infoobject as a data target).
However, there are some bugs related to export data source. CHeck if you see you export data source in RSA6.
If you don't see it - consider applying OSS Note #816892 - "30BSP26: Export DS for master data is not generated".
Note #876845 - "30BSP29: InfoObject change: Export DataSource not adjusted" is also may be useful.

Send changes of Artical master data from sap to nonsap (idoc outbound prog)

I have one requirement in Idocs, i.e the changes of artical master data is send to sap to nonsap system through idoc.
idoc type is ARTMAS05, msg typ is ARTMAS.
I am giving some information for my object.
For article (MATNR) by site (WERKS plant)
     If MRP Type (MARC-DISMM) = u201CX0u201D
          Then if changes to fields:
          MARC-KZAUS     Discontinuation ind.
          MARC-AUSDT     Effective date out
          MARC-NFMAT     Follow-up article
Then send idoc type ARTMAS05 with the following data

The planning system for our client is nonsap system. This software requires to be informed of relevant changes on articles in order to start its planning runs. When an article is superseded by another we have to send the replacement article (if any) as well as the discontinuation date.

     Change pointers active for fields:
     MARC-KZAUS      Discontinuation indicator
     MARC-AUSDT     Effective date out
     MARC-NFMAT     Follow-up article
Idoc ARTMAS05 required with reduction in order to only send relevant fields

All the details mentioned seems to be correct.
just change one "automotive" material and check change documents are getting generated.
i hope partner profiles are already in place.
once change docuements are inpalce check RBDMIDOC program is scheduled in back ground or you can manually execute the program for testing.
and check the IDoc generated.
do you want supress some segements?
di your NOn-sap ssytem can accept Idoc?

Changes of asset master data - S_ALR_87012037

Hi Colleagues,
Could please help me by settings in order to see changes of asset master data ?
I would like to know in which assets changes have been performed, in which characteristic and to know old and new value.
There is one transaction : S_ALR_87012037 - but i cannot get horizontal look of values. I can only get vertical.
In instruction there is shown that i should click function _ "use alv tree control" but i cannot see in my SAP version.
is there any another option to get request display of data ?
