  • Search bar in contacts is a mystery

I cannot figure out how the search bar is set up for contacts. Sometimes it will jump up there so you can search and others it will just at the last location…
Why did apple NOT make it so it is always visible no matter where you are within your contact list…
This would be a great upate…

I thought I remember seeing in the videos Apple released that the search bar did stay on top while you scrolled through your address book. I agree with you, that would be a nice feature. Although at least you can just tap the status bar now and it takes you to the top of any page automatically.

  • No web page address bar when safari loads.     When safari opens, it goes to the apple page. All of the sudden, since last night there is no address bar or search bar on top. Just grey. Please helps,

After Safari opens, there is no address or search box on top (or bottom).  I can't type in a new web page.
    Please help me.
    Thank you for any help

Under VIEW, the "hide toolbar" is in bold, so I can not click "view toolbar"
I tried the customize option as well and that doesn't work either.
Thank you so much for trying to help me. I don't know what's wrong with Safari. I restarted the computer and did all updates. Really bummed :)

  • I have a black "bar" across my page, just above my tabs, below my yahoo toolbar. How do I get rid of it?

my question pretty much covers it, except to say the bar may have shown up at my last update. Thanks for any input.
    B.

Issues with a black (empty) toolbar can be caused by a plugin or an extension that is not compatible with Firefox 3.6 and isn't working properly anymore.<br />
A toolbar like the "ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker Plugin Stub for 32-bit Windows" and other toolbars like "Ask.com" or "My Web Search" can cause this issue.<br />
You can see the toolbars in View > Toolbars.<br />

  • I have an issue with the search bar features

so the search bar changed recently and it's crap.. basically, it pops up way more information than needed as i'm typing in my search, and if my mouse happened to move over a random button when i hit "enter" it searches a different engine or goes to "change search settings".. these buttons do not need to be engaged with the enter button, it's really annoying.. in the screenshot picture i took it removed my cursor but you'll notice that "change search settings" is highlighted, if i were to press enter it wouldn't search, it would open settings

If you want to revert changes made to the search bar and have the standalone window to manage search engines then you can toggle this pref to false with a middle-click on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    *<b>browser.search.showOneOffButtons</b> = false
Close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • Get rid of the google search bar??

I have used Firefox on Linux also on the same machine.

The Search bar is a not a Google search bar but rather it just had Google selected as the search engine at time.

  • How to add Custom Search Engines to Search Bar

In the past I managed to add a 'Custom Search Engine' to Firefox's 'Search Bar' (Windows Version) by just right-clicking that site's own 'search bar' and choosing 'Add to search bar'. I had no third party plugin installed to do this. It was provided by Firefox itself.
Or am I mixing up this feature with Google's 'Add Custom Search Button' ?
Anyhow, is there a way to add a 'Custom Search Engine' to Firefox's 'Search Bar' from any website, WITHOUT having to:
    * install an add-on (like: Add to Search Bar 2.0)
    * acquire search engines on 'mycroft.mozdev.org'
    * acquire search engines from 'Manage/Add Search Engines' from the drop-down menu in the search bar ?
    Thanks!

Just made this [http://www.tobtu.com/customsearch.php custom search creator] to do this since I couldn't find one either.
Although I wouldn't trust a stranger so here's the hard way:
Install Apache (lamp/wamp whatever) or get free web hosting from some site.
    blah.html:
    <a onclick="window.external.AddSearchProvider('http://localhost/blah.xml');">blah</a>
    blah.xml:<br />
    <br />
    <pre><nowiki><?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <OpenSearchDescription xmlns="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/">
    <ShortName>Blah</ShortName>
    <Description>Blah blah</Description>
    <Image width="16" height="16">data:image/png;base64,BlahBlahBase64AndUriEncoded%2B%2F</Image>
    <Image width="16" height="16">http://blah/OrJustAUrl.png</Image>
    <Url type="text/html" method="get" template="https://blah/?blah={searchTerms}"/>
    </OpenSearchDescription></nowiki></pre>
Now go to http://localhost/blah.html and click the link.

  • Is there a keyboard shortcut to move from a Finder search bar to results?

Is there a keyboard shortcut to move from a search bar in the top right of a Finder window, to the results below?

    g-pod wrote:
In OS X 10.5.8's Finder, if I hit the "tab" key while the window's search bar is selected, it just cycles through the toolbar (back button, forward button, etc.).
In 10.6.2's Finder, if I hit the "tab" key while the window's search bar is selected, it will eventually get to highlighting the files in the results list. But this only happens if I search from the universal Spotlight menu bar, and then "Show All" to launch those results in Finder.
If I open a new Finder window, and then search from that window's search bar, the "tab" key will only get me as far as Search "This Mac" in the search filtering bar.
I can confirm that i see exact same behavior as you in all these situations. I was going to suggest tabbing too but decided to check if it actually works first and ran into the same issues. I don't believe there is any other method to do what you want as this one does not work.

  • How can I change the default country Google uses when I search for things on the search bar on the Google Chrome app for the iPad 2?

Whenever I search using the search bar, the Google Chrome app always uses google.com.ph as I bought and set up the iPad in the Philippines. How can I change this to google.com or google.ca permanently?

  • How do I change from AVG Secure Seach to Goggle as the default search enging bor the the search bar and when I open a new page?

When I load Firefox, the default search engine goes to AVG Search. I'd like to change it so that the default search engine on the search bar is Google. In addition, when I one a new page, the new page home page defaults to AVG Search. I'd like opening a new page to default to Google. My initial home page goes to the Wall Street Journal, which I want to keep, but want to change for the search bar and when a new page is opened to Google.

  • Hi - When I go into Contacts and type a letter in the search bar to get to last names that begin with that letter I get a list of random names that don't correlate to the letter. My settings are fine.  Help ?

Hi. When I go into my contacts and type a letter in the saerch bar to get to a list of last names that begin with that letter I get a list of random names that don't begin or end with the letter.  My Settings appear fine.  Any insights would be greatly appreciated.  Cheers Bill

The search bar is not designed to take you to names beginning with the letter you put in. If you want to do that, use the letters down the side. In the search bar, the device will return results for all contacts that have that have that letter in them. If you type a couple of letters of the name, you'll find what you want faster. Once you get used to how it works, it's quite efficient.
    Best of luck.

  • Search bar backgroub dont show what i write, can this be change or the color of the letters can be change to black instead of white so i can see what i write?

when i open my Firefox browser i got Google as my home page and search engine so i click at the search bar and start typing, but i cant see what i write. i think this is do to the background of the search bar and also to the color of the letters which is white.
i have been trying to change this but i don't find the tools to do it and/or i don't have the knowledge to do it, thanks for you help.

Are you using a theme or persona that may set the color to white?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
