Change SATA to ACHI in BIOS

Hiya guys!
I want to change SATA to ACHI via BIOS  but i can't find it anywhere....please help me!
I have HP Pavilion DV7-3197eo

Hi:
That setting doesn't exist in most HP consumer PC's.
If you are trying to install Windows XP, please read the XP downgrade guide and the SATA ACHI blue screen guides below.
Your model's XP downgrade guide instructions can be found under the section labeled "Dificult Models."

  • How to change SATA disk controller on Toshiba Satellite A135 s2276

Hello guys, I know that there was a similar question already (kindly answered by Mike), but my situation differs a little.
I'm trying to install the SSD intead of my hard drive.
Problem is that even though BIOS can see the SSD I cannot install Windows on it (tried XP and 7). Cannot even format it from installation disk (it just hangs).
When I hook it up on a usb cable, it works fine (SSD). I can format it (from windows) and copy files on it like and external drive it doesn't have any issues.
When I try to install windows on it (either from a CD or usb) it hangs. The same situation is if I try to install the system when the SSD is in usb port or if I put it inside, where my hard drive originally is (SATA connection). It just seets there. Comes to copying files and then stops.
I think I'd need to change the SATA disk controller in BIOS (sata to ide or compatibility mode) in order for it to work, however there's no such an option in the latest BIOS for this model (1.60).
    Any help appreciated, thanks Miki
ps. update - I succesfully installed windows on another Toshiba (which has the option to change the sata controller in bios), using the same SSD so I think this is definitely the problem. Any ideas apart from buying a newer comp?

    Hi
If such option is NOT available in BIOS then you will be no able to change this!!!
In such case the HDD controller will say in SATA mode and if you want to install an operating system then you need to install the SATA drivers firstly!
    Bye

  • Sata settings by flashing bios

Our company sets up bios settings by flashing preconfigured bios image.
However with MS-7181 ver 2.0 boards the onchip sata controller setting does not get set.
I have tried with 2 different bios flash utilities, CMOSsave/CMOSrest and MSI:s awfl859g.
Bios image is read ok and written ok, but does not affect the "onchip sata controller" setting.
Other bios settings gets set as saved in image file.
So how do I disable sata controller without entering bios and disabling it by hand?

Quote from: tazpa on 26-June-07, 13:32:12
Why don't you try and set it several times each day (on different machines)
Well at least that setting doesn't get reset when bios is flashed.
Oh and forgot to mention that awfl859g demanded switch /f to function, otherwise it would say that bios is write-protected (no jumper or bios setting to disable).
"Well at least that setting doesn't get reset when bios is flashed."
    Clear CMOS via mainboard jumper.
"Why don't you try and set it several times each day (on different machines) "
    it will take several seconds..

  • Sata/Ide Conflict In Bios

    Hi all;
I'm a noob and doing this at work so bear with me a moment.  I have a new computer with a MSI-7103 mobo, with award bios 6.0P I believe.  I'm adding an IDE drive from the old computer as a second drive.  The 80gb sata drive is on the sata 1 pin on the mobo.  IDE1 has a cdrom drive master and DVD drive slave with nothing on IDE2.  I put the old drive on IDE2 and left the jumper on CS.
In short it won't boot after POST.  No matter what I do it detects the IDE drive before the sata drive and just sit's there.  I reformatted the IDE drive before install so there is no operating system or anything else on the drive.  Without the IDE drive connected it boots normally into winxp Pro.  I can plug the ide drive in with windows running, scan for new hardware and it finds the IDE drive and works well...It's just that I can't boot with the IDE drive installed.
In bios, the boot sequence is FD1, IDE0, CDROM...I don't see any option for the sata drive.  Is the sata drive considered as being IDE0??  I also tried disabling the IDE2 in bios hoping that it would boot and the operating system would then find the drive.  It boots into XP but no dice on the OS finding the drive in that case.
IF it's a jumper issue on the IDE drive...since it's on CS now should I try putting it to master or slave and trying it again??  I have done some searching on the net and it appears that this is sort of a common problem with IDE/Sata conflicts but there doesn't seem to be any one answer.  Any pointers would be very appreciated.
Also, a seperate problem but I'll tack this on here.  I have a devil of a time of getting into bios.  Sometimes I will have to try booting 10 times or more before the mobo will see the delete key and let me in bios.  I have tried switching keyboards so I know that's not it.  It will just post and then show the bios info, ect and when I hit delete the screen will just die and it will sit there.  Any ideas on that one??  Thanks for bearing with me and yes I am also busy using the search function of the forum.  Thanks much!!!!

....Ah life is never quite that simple is it??  Puters aren't either.    It's still not working.  I DL samsungs manual for the drive (sv6003H) just to make sure that I was setting the jumpers right and I was.  I set up the drive as the master in IDE 2.  The computer posts, detects the ide devices being the optical drives on IDE1 and correctly identifies the samsung drive in IDE2 and then just hangs at that point.  It never progresses past that state to see and try to boot from the sata drive.
My bios string is -sis-661fx-6a714m4JC-00 on the bottom of the screen and the standard string at the top of the screen is V7103SMS V7.1091505  Seems to me like it's got to be something bios related.  I did see from the live update that their is an updated bios for the machine but the update seems to just address a faulty temperature report for the cpu sensor.  For kicks and giggles I tried to reflash the bios using the windows option but it said it was unable to open a file so I just chickened out and stopped.  It's not worth a dead machine.
FWIW the samsung manual says that older bios might cause the computer to hang (which is what is happening) if there is no support for a hd above 32gb and there are special jumper settings in that case.  However the hd is from a 2003 compaq and the bios in this machine is 2005 so I can't believe that is the issue.  I did try the jumper settings both ways but no dice.  Any other ideas??  I can always plug the drive back in after windows has booted and then use it but there's got to be a way to get past the drive so windows boots normally off the sata drive.

  • Cannot start after change sata mode

    Hi
I have a probook 4510s i try to install win Xp instead of opensuse. Before  installing  XP, i change a SATA mode from AHCI to IDE. XP was installed ok but when i try to switch back from IDE to AHCI, my laptoop freeze and got black screen. Now when i start a laptop, nothing happens only a HDD led indicator blink. Can enybody help me?? thanks
    Sorry for bad english

    Hi:
You have to install the SATA ACHI drivers for the notebook which is why that happened. Switch it back to IDE mode for now and then follow the procedures below to get it to work in ACHI mode:
Download and install the chipset driver first:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
    Download the Matrix Storage Manager:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
I could only find two of the files the manual said to copy to a flash drive.  So, you can download this utility from Intel which will automatically create a floppy disk with the required files and follow the instructions on Page 12-19 of the below link:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2800&DwnldID=18860&lang=eng
Read this manual and follow the procedures on pages 12 - 19
    http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01600726/c01600726.pdf
After you do this you should be able to change your BIOS setting back to ACHI.

  • Changing IDE to ACHI problems

Am hoping someone can inform me. I have the Big Bang Xpower with the I7-920 with Win7 64.
I just purchased an installed the Mushkin 240 SSD to go along with 3 WD drives.
Although as of now everything seems to be working fine I noticed a new firmware for the SSD drive, I am not able to update it. I have tried and it showed it was doing it but it never changed. I also noticed my Intel 3/4/5 chipset drivers where out of date, while trying to update them I get the message
( This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing software.)
I called Msi tech support and he said I would have to change the IDE to AHCI in the Bios and reinstall Win 7. Since I have a complete backup of the drive I asked of I did reinstall Win 7 after rebooting could I copy my backup over the new install. He said no. I don't mind doing the reinstall but have a lot of programs which I no longer have the installation disks. He stated that would also let me install the Intel drivers.
Tired of scratching my head and thought someone from this forum could help me.
    Would appreciate any advise.

Was able to change to ACHI after changing the setting in Msahic to zero using regedit. That permitted me to update the firmware
on the SSD but still get the message when trying to update Intel drivers.
Interesting idea about keeping the clone as double boot will have to consider that, Thanks for bringing that up.

  • H97M-G43 how to turn off SATA port in a BIOS?

Hello, i've installed Ubuntu on my first hard drive (SSD) and recently bought the second drive (SSD). I plan to install Windows 8 on it. It is possible to turn off sata port with first hard drive in a BIOS?

Quote from: Nichrome on 31-August-14, 04:20:07
    Hello,
Not really disable SATA port, as if something is connected then it will detect this. If not, then no.
Go into BIOS and change boot priority order in order to set HDD or SSD to be #1 when booting. Also when you install Windows, it will actually show you all partitions (both HDD and SSD).
Thanks, how can i correctly change the boot order (Step by step, please)? And what is Hard drive BBS Priorities? And UEFI BBS Priorities?

  • Blank screen after a change in the motherboard's Bios

    Hi,
Recently, I have bought a MSI motherboard - 865PE Neo2 FIS2R. The computer works fine after I installed all the components and applications (including Windows XP [included Service Pack 1], Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility and all the drivers), as well as updating the bios to the most recent version.
However, after I changed one of the bios settings as follows:
    1. Select Frequency/Voltage Control.
    2. Select Performance Mode
    3. Select Ultra-Turbo
then I try to quit and choose Exit & Save Changes and press the Enter key on the keyboard. Immediately after, the screen fails to show anything.
The reset button on the computer case also fails to response (the reset button works before this incident). So, I shut down the computer, wait for a while and then power it up again, the monitor still does not show anything. Also, I do not hear any special beep sound. At that time, all the fans in the case (including CPU fan, system fans, power fans and video card fan) are moving. Here are the things that I have also tried:
    1) I have tried the monitor and video card separately on another computer and both the monitor and video card work fine.
    2) Also, I have tried to clear the CMOS following the procedure mentioned in the manual jumper but the screen still fails to show anything.
    Here is my computer's configuration:
    Motherboard  :  865PE Neo2 FIS2R (Bios version 1.4)
    CPU :           Intel Pentium 4 2.8CGHz (800 FSB)
    Memory :        Crucial PC3200 512MB CL3 (two of these)
Graphic card :  128MB Crucial Radeon 9800 Pro
    Hard disk :     IBM DTLA-307030
Case :          Thermaltake Xaser III V1000A Black
    Power Supply :  TruePower 380 12V AC 380W ATX TRUE380PGB
Therefore, may I know if the problem is solvable and what caused the problem. Also, I have just bought the motherboard for about 2 weeks, should I go back to the retailer to get a replacement?
Thank you anyone whom may help.

The difference in the performance modes above SLOW is the DRAM SPD timings used ...seems yours is unstable at the Ultra-turbo settings (you may be able to use this setting if you increase your DDR voltage slightly though (I use 2.7v for my CORSAIR)) ...only trouble is gaining access to the BIOS to do this
A few things you can try:-
Use only a single stick of memory -go into BIOS and increase the DDR voltage or reduce the performance setting
If that fails and you have another type of DDR available try using a single stick of that instead (DDR 2700 has worked for me in the past) ...this will force your motherboard to boot at the SLOW timings -you can then enter the bios and increase the DDR voltage, save, shutdown and reinstall your memory.
Try booting with the "Insert" key pressed to force the BIOS defaults to be used
Remove the power cord press the "start" button a few times (to discharge any power left in the PSU) remove the CMOS battery and set the jumper to the "CLEAR" position ...have a cup of tea (or coffee) ...reset the jumper, install the battery, insert the power cord, cross your fingers and BOOT?

  • MS-9130 trying onboard SATA for first time, BIOS error messages

I have a K8T/MS-9130 based system with a single OPTERON 144 CPU and 2GB RAM. It was in service for a long time, then stored, now I am returning it to service but need to use SATA HDD.
When I enabled SATA on BIOS, I now receive messages like this, during BIOS start-up:
"TAB Key into user Window" (however, when I hit TAB key, nothing happens)
"Hardware initiate failed, g to continue"
My SATA HDD (generic 400 GB Western Digital), SATA data cable and SATA power cable were all tested temporary on a PCI SATA card in the same computer, and found to work OK. I have several SATA devices planned, so I wish to use on-board SATA interface (2 ports available.)
Under Windows 2000 SP4, the device manager shows error for RAID SATA with this message: "Device cannot start (Code 10).
    System information during BIOS start-up:
    MS-9130 BIOS mainboard V1.3 071304
    SATA Bios 2.02
    Thank you for any help,
    Dave

I now understand this is a frequent reported problem - when I read the forum "sticky" messages (of course, after I posted this new message, I am sorry to say), I believe the VIA VT8237 is a problem with SATA-2 drive interface, and my drive(s) is/are probably SATA-2 drive interface.
I am sorry to waste the attention! This is probably why the reseller told me at the time (2007) that the onboard SATA was not recommended with this mainboard, but I had forgotten.
Anyway, I will find multi-port SATA PCI card and continue.
If this is not the common SATA-2 problem, then maybe I can get help?
    Thank you,
    Dave

  • Missing SATA configuration screen in BIOS

    Original setup
    Mobo: MSI PT880 Neo (V2.0)
    Model: MS-7043 Ver:100
    BIOS: AMIBIOS v1.3
    CPU: Intel P4 3.0GHz
    RAM: 2x 1GB Kingston DDR400
    HDD: 80GB IDE Maxtor
    Optical: Lite-On DVD-RW IDE
    PSU: Tristar 550W
    Video: MSI 8907 ver200
the hard drive is beginning to fail so I purchased a new WD 500GB SATA hard drive. The mobo has two SATA ports and according to the manual and these forums, this board should be able to handle a SATA drive but when I plug in the drive, it doesn't appear in the BIOS. In fact, there is no setting to configure the SATA drive except for to enable/disable in the "integrated peripherals" menu of the BIOS. At first I thought that I needed to flash the bios. I was able to succesfully flash it to version 2.0 but the SATA config is still missing. I tried flashing to version 1.9 but the process froze after the message "erase done" appeared but before it started writing the new bios. I had to power off the power supply to get out of the frozen screen (I know that this was probably not good but I had no other choice since it was frozen for 30 minutes with no activity during the flash process) Luckily, the system wasn't toasted. I just reset the CMOS jumper and the bios was back to version 2.0
I'm performing the flash update by booting using a Win98 CD (I got the ISO for it from another post in this forum) then swapping in another CD with the BIOS utility and file. The PC was stable prior to the hard drive beginning to fail.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing incorrectly? I just want to be able to install Win XP on the new SATA drive and replace the IDE drive.

Quote from: Stu on 15-May-10, 19:22:31
What SATA config settings are you looking for? For a single drive, there is nothing to configure.
From the FAQ section of the mobo on MSI's webpage, I was under the impression that there should be more settings in the "integrated peripherals" http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=faq2show&faq_no=37 although now that I look at the page, it doesn't say that it's specifically for this mobo (even though it is linked right from the mobo's product page)

Did you put the jumper on for S-ATA 1.5 or did you leave no jumper for S-ATA 3.0?
I was able to find the jumper and set the drive to SATA 150MB and now I am able to choose it in the list of bootable devices. It appears as "BBS-0 (RAID)" when I press F11 to choose a boot device. It still doesn't appear in the BIOS settings as a detected HD though. Now when I try to install Win XP, it says that there is no storage device detected. When I press F6 during the start of the install, it wants to find the driver on a floppy disk. Is there another way for Windows to be able to see the drive? I'm not installing a RAID and I'm not sure if I have a working floppy drive or floppy disk.
Do I need to install this drive on a completely different machine, get Windows installed and then transfer it back to this box?

  • Changing processor- Is there any bios update to do?

hye, before this, i'm using intel core 2 duo e6300. but i have change to intel QX9650. is there any bios update i have to do to avoid any conflicts.
btw, i'm using windows xp professional. i heard that msi motherboard will update the bios automatically when the processor is changed. is that true?
if not, what i have supposed to do right now?

    According to the CPU-Support List...
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1479&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
...the P45 Platinum officially supports the Intel QX9650 since BIOS v1.0.  So basically, in terms of processor support, you do not need a newer BIOS to make sure the QX9650 is initialized and handled properly by the system.  If you do not have any problems with your system and everything appears to be functioning just fine, a BIOS Update is not absolutly necessary at the moment.
In case you need to update your BIOS in the future, please do not use MSI Live Update or any other Windows based flashing applications.  Instead, >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<, which will automatically prepare an USB Flash Drive for a save BIOS Flash from a plain DOS Environment, which remains the safest method for that kind of procedure.  Of course, you should ensure that your system is running 100% stable before a BIOS Update even becomes an options.  What you don't want and need is a system crash during the flashing procedure (which will most likely render your board useless).

  • Changing X240 Boot Order in BIOS

This page documents how to use WMI to change certain aspects of the Lenovo BIOS.
Of interest to me is changing the BootMode from BIOS TO UEFI, then changing the BootPriority to UEFI First.
Unfortunatey, newer laptops (X240, T540p, Carbon 20A8, Helix, etc) - the laptops deployed in our organization - do not have the ability to have their BIOS changed via WMI, at least according to bdw_deploy_01.pdf on the page linked earlier.
Am I just misreading this, or can I now not make BIOS-UEFI changes via WMI for these laptops? If so, this is very unfortunate.
    Thank you

This particular setting is not allowed to be scripted because if you deployed a machine with an OS that does not support UEFI and then you switched the setting to boot UEFI the machine would not be able to boot.  The other BIOS settings support by the WMI interface can still be changed by WMI when the system has been deployed as UEFI boot.

  • Satellite C645: Are any changes in cooling strategy in BIOS v1.90?

    Hi,
does anyone flashed BIOS from v1.60 to v1.90 recently posted.
If so, have you noted any changes in the behaviour of the CPU fan cycles?
I mean, does the anoying problem of CPU fan turning on from 0% to 100% RPM every 30 seconds (aprox.) have changed or remains the same?
    My laptop model is C645-sp4131L (14 " - P6200 @ 2.13 Ghz, Intel video on board, 2Gb RAM).
Thanks in advance for your answers and excuse my poor english.

Dr. Lamp thank you very much for your answer.
The last letter in the model number of my laptop C645-Sp4131L symbolizes that is approved the be sold in the Latin American region. The thing is that the latin american web portal of Toshiba has not support or comunity forums.
So I had only two choices to post the question, the USA support forums where all the others Satellite series except the A series share one forum, or the european forum where at least has a special sub-forum for the Satellite C series.
Anyway I will try to post there too and maybe as you say someone has used that BIOS.
Regarding you sugestion in my experience the Windows 7 power plans doesn't change the behaviour of the CPU fan cycles. I think that the thermal tables are hard coded into the BIOS.
    Thanks again for you answer.

  • Need key to change RAID to JBOD in bios on Qosmio G30

    dear,
When I try to change the RAID0 to JBOD it ask me a key which is written in Manuals. But i can't find this key.
    Can any one help me
    thanks

    abaidullah,
I have personally tried it via the F6 key and without touching the BIOS, and it worked fine for me with the Win-XP PRO installation.
One important detail is that it worked only when I provided it the driver files at the root folder of the diskette (aka, A:\ directory), while it didn't worked at all when I provided them within subfolders as they came after extracting the related downloaded zip-file!
Now, I realise that you need to install a Windows Server due to your need to run Oracle and some Oracle-based ERP software.
I haven't tried that, but my wild guess is that the raid driver should work via the F6 key with the Windows Server(s) as well. I might be wrong however, that was only my wild guess.
And another wild guess of mine is that you will probably face more issues with the rest drivers, after you install the Windows Server.
Especially with the Windows Server 2003, while you will might be more lucky with the Windows Server 2000.
    Best of luck to you,
    Y
