Change shortcut for committing text

Does anyone know the name of the "command" I should change in the Keyboard Shortcuts window for committing text? This is normally ESC in InDesign but I'd like to change it to what Photoshop uses (command+return or enter). Thanks!

ESC is the default shortcut for changing to the Selction Tool when the Text tool is active in ID. I don't think I've ever heard anyone use the term "committing text" with InDesign.
If you want to change it, Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts... and change the product area to Tools, then scroll down.Cmd + Enter is the default for opening Quick Apply, but you can reassign it, or use something else, like Opt + Enter, which is unassigned.
Keep in mind that Text in ID is far more sophisticated and complex in ID than it is in Photoshop, and you have a lot of additional text commands availble.

I wanted to know if we need to do some settings for activating change documents for long text.Presently in WAK2 (retail) when ever i change long text i cant see any change documents for it(though for rest feilds i can see that).When i looked at oss i saw some notes like 849348(around other transactions) which says that change documents are possible for long text. I wanted to know what steps we need to follow to activate it for this transaction.

How do I create a keyboard shortcut for compressing text?

I am in a prepress situation where we build print advertisements.
The company has just gone over to Indesign from Quark.
I would like quick access to text compression similar to Quark's 'Ctrl ['.
I can't find the facility to compress in 'Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts/Type'.

- Navigate to Adobe InDesign's "Edit" menu and select "Keyboard Shortcuts." The Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box comes up on your screen.
- Click on the "Set" pop-up at the top of the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box. Choose "Shortcuts for QuarkXPress 4.0." Now click "OK." That's all you have to do to make Adobe InDesign behave more like QuarkXPress.
- Attempt to use a QuarkXPress shortcut and you find your familiar hands-on environment within Adobe InDesign. This saves you time by letting you leverage the value of your experience in a new software package.
- Return to the "Edit" menu and choose "Keyboard Shortcuts" again if you prefer the keyboard commands from QuarkXPress but always wanted to change one or more of them. Don't try to edit the shortcuts in the "QuarkXPress 4.0" set itself. Instead, click the "New Set" button. In the window that comes up, type a distinctive name for your new shortcut set. Change documents for STXD texts

hello,
does someone have an idea if it is possible to create change documents for texts created/manipulated with functions from function group STXD? E.g. such texts written and edited with SAVE_TEXT, EDIT_TEXT and so on.
it seems to me those functions do not natively support change documents....

Config can lock the texts showing date/time/userid for when created and not allowing change to the text that has already been saved...you can edit as I recall, adding more lines, but not modify what was already there. This is sometimes used in QM, etc., so that there's a "trail"...

Shortcut for Fit text on Box?

i have a shortcut in InDesign to do this and it is very useful when aligning differente text frames. If the frame does not fit its text content the alignment is not right. I know i can do it by hand, but when you have many blocks is way time consuming.
Any help or ideas?

"Length" should be avoided when describing dimensions. It can be interpreted as either horizontal or vertical. Use "height" and "width", not length. Better still, explicitly state horzontal or vertical.
What would be nicer is for Adobe to take a look at its other vector drawing program (FreeHand) and discover a far superior interface for text objects. Then trash Illustrator's entirely ill-conceived, cumbersome, unintuitive, and limited "Area Type" vs. "Point Type" distinction.
Enable the user to set any text object to auto-expand and auto-fit its contents either horizontally or vertically. FreeHand users have been able to do this to any text object with a mere double-click for decades. This can also be set to all the text objects in the document at once--a huge advantage for avoiding accidental overset text in map projects where hundreds of street labels are subject to the risk.
InDesign needs this almost as badly.

Change shortcut for delete word forward

Two questions about using Preferences > keyboard > shortcuts to rename an existing shortcut (for textedit and pages):
1) How do I know the "Menu Title" for an existing shortcut? Is there a reliable listing of shortcut titles?
2) How do I enter "ctrl+delete" into the "Keyboard Shortcut" field? Right now it is just ignoring it.

Assign your own keyboard shortcuts to menu commands in any OS X app, including Finder. This might be useful if a global shortcut, which works the same with most apps, conflicts with a specific app shortcut. In this case, you could assign a different key combination.
You can only create keyboard shortcuts for existing menu commands. You cannot create keyboard shortcuts for general purpose tasks such as opening an app.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Keyboard.
Click Shortcuts, select App Shortcuts, then click Add (+).
Click the Application pop-up menu, then choose an app. If you want to set the same key combination for a menu command that appears in many apps, choose All Applications.

It’s possible to have keyboard shortcuts for one app that conflict with another app. For example, Command-Space bar opens the Spotlight menu, but in another app it might be used for switching between different input methods.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Keyboard.
Click Shortcuts. A yellow warning triangle appears next to conflicting keyboard shortcuts. Click the shortcut, then change it.

Cannot change shortcut for activating app expose

Hello,
I can't seem to reassign the shortcut key for "Application windows" in exposé. I can change the key in the Exposé preference panel, which has a limited set of keys. But I cannot change it to an arbitrary shortcut (e.g. opt-s) in the keyboard preferences. Could somebody help?

no, not a lot... and no, I don't download any music or videos... maybe I should just delete all the re download,. what I'm afraid of is that even if I delete all the apps it will anyway keep the same problem, because when I go to "My Apple ID" and click it keeps showing me the other email.... and then I will not be able to use any Aps on my iphone....
anyway, thank you so much for all the help.... and I DID sync with iTunes, but it didn't help, only made it worse.... maybe I will hang myself.... (just joking) going to sleep now and will try out in the morning./// thanks again!!!

Change language for "builtin"-texts

I try to change the language settings for my application, so that "builtin"-text are shown in german. With "builtin"-texts in mean such texts as "Welcome", "Logout", "Show all" or "Go to error". Changing my browsers language to "de" and "de-de" doesn't work. Setting the "application primary language to "German (Germany)" in the Application properties doesn't work. Setting the property "Application Language Derived From" to "Browser" or "Application primary language" also doesn't work. I also checked that i did not install the "English-only" apex-installation.
What am i doing wrong?

Installing the All languages version is a necessary first step, but it’s not enough. Every other non-English language need to be installed manually, as described in the following:

Shortcuts for placing text in brackets

Is there a way to easy place text in brackets in Indesign? I have a lot of text where some word need to be placed in brackets and would like to just highlight the word and use a shortcut to place it in brackets.

Save this short Javascript in your User Scripts folder:

app.selection[0].insertionPoints[0].contents = '(';
app.selection[0].characters.itemByRange(0,app.selection[0].length-2).select();
You can assign a shortcut key to it the usual way.

Change layout for text email to landscape instead of potrait

I success send the text report to email. But how can I change layout for my text email to landscape instead of potrait. I am using FM SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 to send an emails.

I believe it is restricted by the length of the line which is about 70 characters or something like that. so there is no portrait or landscape option.
I put my form instead of text in the printspool convert that to a pdf file and send that as an attachment automaticaly to the recipient.

No shortcut key for "Add Text" tool?

we have shortcuts for comment tool (S), textbox tool, but why not one for Add text tool? or did i miss it out? I'm on acrobat XI pro right now.please advise!

ah yes, you're right.
this brings me to another question. in previous versions of acrobat, when in hand tool or selection mode (v), i can just double click on MY own typed text (not comments) to add on/modify my contents. however, nothing happens when i double click now. i can highlight my text but can't delete it, nor can i add anything to it.
a prompt comes up and tells me to use the text edit tools. when i tried using the text insert tool, it simply adds a popup comment to my text, instead of editing the text that i wrote.
i just realized i could hit "Edit text and images" button that reveals all the textboxes, then i can edit the text. again that has no shortcut, and is one step more than what i usually would do.
what can i do to revert this behavior to the old versions? if not, what would be the shortcut for edit text+images?

Change Style for text (PE12)

When I insert a text, i can change style just one time. It is not possible to change style for other text. I must stop the program and start up for changing style at each time I request to change style.
Solution?

Thank you for linking to the Muvipix thread. Not sure what happened in PrE 12, but this Styles Bug looks pretty serious, as Styles allow a user to do so much, regarding attributes for Shapes and Text.

it's called Zoom - found under the Window menu, and if you create a new shortcut for Safari in System Preferences-Keyboard & Mouse-Keyboard Shortcuts... you can assign a key combo of your choice to it.

CS4: Disable Spacebar Shortcut for Timeline/Frame Playback?

I am currently making an animation using Frames (Window > Animation, and setting it to Frames instead of Timeline), and I often use Spacebar + drag to pan across the canvas. However, quickly pressing Spacebar plays the animation... Is there any way to disable this feature?
I tried looking in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts > Panel Menus > Animation (Frames/Timeline), but all of the shortcuts are blank and there doesn't even seem to be an option for anything like "Play Animation."

If you go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, and select "Panel Menus" from the "Shortcuts For" dropdown menu, you can set (or change) shortcuts for the Timeline panel.
**EDIT: Couldn't seem to find the spacebar shortcut for play/stop in this menu...still trying to find a solution for you. Alternatively, you can uncheck Enable Timeline Shortcuts Keys from the Timeline panel to disable the shortcuts.

Shortcut for moving between Panels on Modal Dialog boxes eg: Cell Options (OS X)

Is there an existing shortcut for moving between the tabs of modal dialog boxes. For example Cmd+Opt+'B' brings up Cell Options dialog but that is actually the shortcut for the "Text" Panel how can I navigate (using keyboard keys) to the other Panels {"Strokes and Fills", "Rows and Columns", "Diagonal Lines"}.
Note:
I realise I can create shortcuts for the Table…> Cell Options…> Diagonal Lines items but these shortcuts will not work in the context of the Cell Options Modal Dialogue box.

For those who come looking b/s they had the same question:
As a bonus once one of these key sequences is pressed the tab heading area comes into focus so the arrow keys work for navigating tabs. So even for long list of Paragraph Style tabs which number greater than 10 still easy to navigate to them eleventh to someteenth ones.
