I'd like to change the smtp banner and I 'm changing BANNER_ADITION and CUSTOM_VERSION_STRING in the option.dat file.
What is what I'm doing wrong?

make a file in msg-serv/imta/config
tcp_local_option
and add
CUSTOM_VERSION_STRING= value
BANNER_HOST= value
BANNER_ADDITION= value
do imsimta cnbuild and refresh.

Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner

Hello,
We have a client with an SLS who is configured to send mail using the ISP as relay. With this situation, the server-side mail rules (vacation notices) are not working.
So, I need to configure the server to use DNS to send mail. The client has one public static IP, in the form of client.static.isp.gr. ISP refuses to change the PTR for a single IP, so when I check the server using mxtoolbox.com, I get +Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner+.
In MS Exchange, you can set the "Internet e-mail name" and change the default SMTP banner.
How can I change the SMTP banner in Postfix? (in order to put the ISPs PTR for the static IP).

Kostas B. has been tussling with other issues ("ISP refuses to change the PTR for a single IP") and this is unrelated to the configuration of Mail itself, from what I can tell of it. He's really trying to do something that the ISP involved isn't supporting, and that's more of an administrative or ISP issue and less of a technical issue.
As for your question (and presuming your public-facing DNS forward and reverse translations are correct and your MX record is correct, details which are not yet in evidence), launch Server Admin and set your mail server host name in the mail configuration. Server Admin > select server > Mail > general > fill in your internet-facing host name. This name should matche your public DNS MX record, and your public forward and reverse DNS translations should (also) match.
And as a general rule, please don't thread-jack. That largely serves to confound and confuse the discussions.

If you still want to change the banner, you can do so using the CUSTOM_VERSION_STRING option in the <msg_base>/config/tcp_local_option file (you will need to create it if it doesn't already exist):

SMTP Banner mismatch - still not understanding how this works?

I have a new Exchange 2010 install.
My outgoing email is getting flagged as spam. MX Record test shows SMTP banner mismatch.
I understand that you don't change the FQDN on the receive connector using the GUI.
I have created an additional Receive connector so I have the following:
Receive Connectors:
Client Comm
Default Comm
My question is how to I change the smtp banner and which connector do I set it on. The syntax needed for the Set-ReceiveConnector is kicking my butt.
It sure is frustrating that the new Windows World is so centered around Powershell command lines. Very frustrating and backwards technology.
The documentation on the Set and Get-Receiveconnectors is very poorly written. IMHO.

My reverse DNS is setup correctly.
This is an issue with the receive connector banner page. Some email hosting services, AOL, Hotmail etc. are flagging my outbound email as junk. So they must be doing a test to see that my receive connectors have the wrong SMTP banner.
My send connector is ALSO setup correctly.
I need help with the syntax in using the Set-receiveconnector cmd.

Create a Internet type custom receive connector. My assumption is that you receive internet messages directly to the hubs. When you create an Internet Receive Connector it will allow anonymous senders to connect to it so it will work for internet messages.

The apps you have were probably purchased/downloaded from the App Store with your ex-wife's iTunes account. Any updates to these apps will want to be downloaded using this account. You will need to redownload/repurchase these apps. In iTunes on your computer delete the app. Go to the App Store and redownload/repurchase them. Now sync your iPhone with iTunes.
Note that if you are using a new computer (no longer your ex-wife's) you may lose what is on your iPhone.
In iTunes on a computer you can check which account was used for dowloading/purchasing an app. Select the app. From the File menu choose Get Info. The account will be listed in the Summary tab.

How can you change the banner of the FTP-server on the Linksys WRT610N ?

My question is this : How can you change the banner of the FTP-server on the Linksys WRT610N ?
At present it says : "Welcome to WRT610 Router's FTP service" which gives away the type of the device.
Which is a clue I would rather hide. Besides that I would like to change it to something more personal.
But how do you do that ?
The UG is silent about this.

* Login as admin
* Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
* Expand FTP sites (from tree view)
* Right-click on the particular FTP site, select Properties
* Click on the Messages tab
* Setup new message
* Save the changes

RVS4000 Masking SMTP Banner - Help

Several people are telling me that they are getting bounced emails from my email server but many other are making it through. From much investigation, it's looking like it's because my SMTP banner is not matching my domain name and / or reverse lookup addresses.
When I telnet to my server from an external network, I receive the following:
220 **********************
When telneting from my local network, I get the following:
220 srv Axigen ESMTP ready
So, this is telling me that the RVS4000 is hiding the banner. I've seen posts that Cisco ASA and Pix firewalls do this and there's a "fixup protocol" command that can be disabled but I don't see that anywhere on the RVS4000.
I just updated to the 1.3.2.0 firmware and I see nothing that will help this out.
Any thoughts? Please help as I'm missing a lot of emails from users ISP's that require the SMTP banner match the host name.

Also, now that I upgraded the Firmware, the router is stopping internet traffic randomly for 3 to 30 seconds. Nothing is listed in the logs. Am I headding down a bad path here?

Changing the banner ....

How can I change the banner in the pages like :
- the page behind the link 'customize' where i can add portlet, and so on ...
- the page behind the 'customize' link in the Favorites portlet where i can add favorites, create group of favorites..
In particular how can i change the logo displayed without changing the physical image in the portal30/images directory.
I would like to change too the style of the all page: the 'blue' color of the horizontal column, that display the 'Adding Favorites' is really distroying the graphic chart of the site.
I would like that this page uses the style i have defined for the all page.
If anyone knows some tips to make these changes,

You most certainly can make changes to the colours. I assume that you are referring to the "Try It", "Know It" banner when you click on the play.exe file?
To make the changes, navigate to the following within your UPK library:
1. System --> Publishing --> Styles --> <content> --> Player
2. Double click on Player, and you should see a number of files.
3. Navigate to the Skin.css file and open it.
4. The properties .navCellOff and .navCellOn defines what colours the buttons are. Change these values as required.
5. Save the change in the text editor.
6. Press the save button in UPK.
7. Publish topic to see changes.
8. Access play.exe and you will see the changes. I hope this is what you are looking for.
Also, have a look at the Content Development manual provided with UPK - spcifically the section "Customize Player Mode Buttons" on page 362 of the document.

SMTP Banner

How do I change the hostname that I am greeted with when I connect to the SMTP server? Currently I am greeted with something along the lines of myhost.mydomain.local but I actually want it to report myhost.mydomain.com. I've tried changing some properties such as local.hostname, local.imta.hostname and local.servername but none seem to affect it.
Would appreciate any pointers.

In your imta.cnf
Down in the channel definition block, in the definition for tcp_local
last line of the tcp_local definition:
tcp_local-daemon <what you want in the banner>
run:
imsimta cnbuild
imsimta reload

Changing SMTP Server Ports When Setting Up New Accounts

My ISP, COX Communications, blocks port 25 for email accounts not using their SMTP servers. When setting up a mail account how do you change the port? I know how it's done when you have the account set up, but not when you're trying to set up the account.
Note that I can think of a way to 'cheat', but having to 'cheat' doesn't sit well with me. It's a clutzy solution to a problem. Let people change ports during account set up should that prove necessary.

HI, all you can do is let Mail go for however long it needs to after making the Account, (half hour here on both send/receive), before it figures out to continue, so you can get to the Advanced Tab!
Or make the Account in say Eudora & Import it.

E-Mail Alerts, Change SMTP Port

I'm trying to set up e-mail alert notifications in Enterprise Manager. I have port 25 heavily used elsewhere, and I beleive this is preventing connection. I cannot conect to port 25 with the telnet test, but I can cannot to port 23. How do I change ports?

The front end application (SmarTeam PDM) is using port 25 for it's workflow. I havn't tested yet with that service off. I'm just wondering why that server can connect to to SMTP, but the Oracle server cannot?HELP!

Please clarify how many different systems are involved in this discussion, by providing actual hostname & description of their function.
Firewall rules can be such that System A is allowed to initiate a connection with System B using port #25
This same firewall could be configured to prevent System B from initiating a connection on port #25 with System A.
Please clarify the originating system, the terminating system & the port being used/attempted.
I still suspect internal Firewall rules are getting in your way

Changing smtp settings and account selection in Mail

I've just begun tinkering with Applescript... but not for fun! I'm not a programmer but I understand some VERY basic things about scripting.
I need a way to set the smtp USER NAME for a specific account in Mail to a different user name. (I would select the user name from a dialog and I figured out that part.) None of the other settings will change. Is there a way to do this? Of course there must be -- I was able to set the user name for the incoming mail server but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this for the outgoing!
Also, I would like Applescript to change the account that the frontmost message will be sent from. I don't want it to be the default account in this instance. Is that possible? I haven't been able to even come close to figuring that out.
One last thing: How do you concatenate a string in AppleScript? For example (where aVariable = "01"):
"johnsmith_" & aVariable & "@mydomain.com"
result I want: "[email protected]"
I was able to figure out how to assign a value to "aVariable" but I couldn't tell if I was using the correct method for stringing everything together. The line generated an error but I couldn't tell where I messed up.
It's been interesting and promising but also very frustrating so any help would be appreciated.

If I have multiple email accounts all accessing the same smtp server but with different user names, how does it know which one to change? I tried something like this...

It would be nice if there was something. Optionally, I might be able to work changing the DEFAULT account to another account into my "workflow" instead. Is that any easier to find?

Unfortunately I don't remember anymore -- I was getting so many errors, it's all a blur now... and I already deleted the code. There was probably something else wrong in the line. I've tried concatenating elsewhere since then and it worked fine but I didn't think to try that before asking.

LMS 3.2.1 changing smtp server

Running lms 3.2.1 CS 3.3.1 on Windows 2003
I need to point the LMS server to a new mail relay, but when I make the change in
CS->SERVER->Admin->System Preferences smtp server
It claims to have made the change successfully but the old IP address remains.
I made a successfull change days before. Any help/thoughts appreciated?

Thank You for the response. Unfortunately I am unable to provide the regdaemon.xml as this is a closed system.
The regdaemon.xml file shows the old ip address that is displayed in the gui, however when I try to update it through the gui, the smtp.log shows successfull validation of the smtp service using the updated ip address.
I understand that this may not be resolvable without me providing this file and I can open a TAC case if necessary.
Can I edit the regdaemon.xml file directly to replace the ip address?

To make this is enought to modify the entry [SERVICE=SMTP] PORT=25 on dispatcher.cnf file in /msg-istance/imta/config folder or are there any other parameter to change?

If all you want is that the port 25 be used by
the virus scanner, then yes you could change this
to another port other than 25 and then restart
the dispatcher (imsimta restart dispatcher).
But You also might need to tell webmail
(if you're using it) to use the alternate port
unless you wanted all internal user's to also
get virus scanned.
You might check with support for more information
about settup up virus scanners with iMS as they
will have some "whitepapers" that will help
you.
