Change smtp iMS 5.2

Hi everybody, i need to modify the smtp port of my internal mail server (iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 on Solaris 8) to another port for antivirus gateway installation.
To make this is enought to modify the entry [SERVICE=SMTP] PORT=25 on dispatcher.cnf file in /msg-istance/imta/config folder or are there any other parameter to change?

If all you want is that the port 25 be used by
the virus scanner, then yes you could change this
to another port other than 25 and then restart
the dispatcher (imsimta restart dispatcher).
But You also might need to tell webmail
(if you're using it) to use the alternate port
unless you wanted all internal user's to also
get virus scanned.
You might check with support for more information
about settup up virus scanners with iMS as they
will have some "whitepapers" that will help
you.
Many thanks and regards

    hi Naqi Mirza
    thanks for the reply.
by the way, I've checked teh eb web site

can you give me more information for that, please?
    I really appreciate it.

  • Changing SMTP Server Ports When Setting Up New Accounts

My ISP, COX Communications, blocks port 25 for email accounts not using their SMTP servers. When setting up a mail account how do you change the port? I know how it's done when you have the account set up, but not when you're trying to set up the account.
Note that I can think of a way to 'cheat', but having to 'cheat' doesn't sit well with me. It's a clutzy solution to a problem. Let people change ports during account set up should that prove necessary.

HI, all you can do is let Mail go for however long it needs to after making the Account, (half hour here on both send/receive), before it figures out to continue, so you can get to the Advanced Tab!
Or make the Account in say Eudora & Import it.

  • E-Mail Alerts, Change SMTP Port

I'm trying to set up e-mail alert notifications in Enterprise Manager. I have port 25 heavily used elsewhere, and I beleive this is preventing connection. I cannot conect to port 25 with the telnet test, but I can cannot to port 23. How do I change ports?
    Oracle Database 10.2.0.4

The front end application (SmarTeam PDM) is using port 25 for it's workflow. I havn't tested yet with that service off. I'm just wondering why that server can connect to to SMTP, but the Oracle server cannot?HELP!
    I am easily confused.
Please clarify how many different systems are involved in this discussion, by providing actual hostname & description of their function.
Firewall rules can be such that System A is allowed to initiate a connection with System B using port #25
This same firewall could be configured to prevent System B from initiating a connection on port #25 with System A.
Please clarify the originating system, the terminating system & the port being used/attempted.
I still suspect internal Firewall rules are getting in your way

  • Changing smtp settings and account selection in Mail

I've just begun tinkering with Applescript... but not for fun! I'm not a programmer but I understand some VERY basic things about scripting.
I need a way to set the smtp USER NAME for a specific account in Mail to a different user name. (I would select the user name from a dialog and I figured out that part.) None of the other settings will change. Is there a way to do this? Of course there must be -- I was able to set the user name for the incoming mail server but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this for the outgoing!
Also, I would like Applescript to change the account that the frontmost message will be sent from. I don't want it to be the default account in this instance. Is that possible? I haven't been able to even come close to figuring that out.
One last thing: How do you concatenate a string in AppleScript? For example (where aVariable = "01"):
    "johnsmith_" & aVariable & "@mydomain.com"
    result I want: "[email protected]"
I was able to figure out how to assign a value to "aVariable" but I couldn't tell if I was using the correct method for stringing everything together. The line generated an error but I couldn't tell where I messed up.
It's been interesting and promising but also very frustrating so any help would be appreciated.

    > Outgoing servers are different - despite the smtp server appearing to be part of the 'Account' settings, they're not. There's a separate class for smtp server'.
In this case, to set the username used to authenticate against your SMTP server you'd do soemthing like:
set user name of smtp server "my.company.net" to "johndoe"
If I have multiple email accounts all accessing the same smtp server but with different user names, how does it know which one to change? I tried something like this...
<pre class=command>set user name of smtp server "my.company.net" of account "Account #3" to "[email protected]"</pre>
(BTW: My smtp server uses complete email addresses in the username field so I changed it just to make it clearer for myself)
    But I get this error:
<pre>Mail got an error: NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError: 4</pre>
    > > Also, I would like Applescript to change the account that the frontmost message will be sent from
Hmm, I can't see this off-hand, either. I'll keep digging.
It would be nice if there was something. Optionally, I might be able to work changing the DEFAULT account to another account into my "workflow" instead. Is that any easier to find?
    > You have it right. The & is used to concatenate strings. ... I'm not sure why it would generate a message, unless 'aVariable' wasn't what you thought. What did the error message say?
Unfortunately I don't remember anymore -- I was getting so many errors, it's all a blur now... and I already deleted the code. There was probably something else wrong in the line. I've tried concatenating elsewhere since then and it worked fine but I didn't think to try that before asking.
    Thanks for the help!

  • LMS 3.2.1 changing smtp server

Running lms 3.2.1   CS 3.3.1  on Windows 2003
I need to point the LMS server to a new mail relay, but when I make the change in
    CS->SERVER->Admin->System Preferences  smtp server
It claims to have made the change successfully but the old IP address remains.
I made a successfull change days before.  Any help/thoughts appreciated?

    Afroj,
Thank You for the response.  Unfortunately I am unable to provide the regdaemon.xml as this is a closed system.
The  regdaemon.xml file shows the old ip address that is displayed in the gui, however when I try to update it through the gui, the smtp.log shows successfull validation of the smtp service using the updated ip address.
I understand that this may not be resolvable without me providing this file and I can open a TAC case if necessary.
Can I edit the regdaemon.xml file directly to replace the ip address?

  • Change SMTP port at LMS 3.2

    Hi all,
Im installing LMS 3.2 and customer smtp server is listening at 26 port.
There's a way to change this default port (25) into LMS to connect to maill.xxxx.com 26 ?
I got this error message cause i didnt connect to 25.
"Invalid IP address or server name for mail server. Please enter a valid SMTP server name or leave the 'SMTP Server' field blank."
    Thks.

I don't think that's possible, but I suggest posting at the other Network Management forum for a definitive answer:

  • How to view and change SMTP port number in new account setup in "Mail" 10.6

When I try to set up and test a new email account addressing an SMTP server that seems to e using a nn-standard port number, how on earth can I even look at the port number assigned by default to a new account in Apple Mail 10.6 setup ?
I might have to trial and error different port numbers but when Mail tries to test the connection to the SMTP server after I enter its address, it just spins and hangs up. I suspect the reason is a wrong port number. How do I change that outgoing port number in Apple Mail ??
There seems to be no obvious way the program will let U do it or even let you view the port it assigns in apparent error.

there is no way to change the smtp port during the original account creation. you can usually wait Mail out if it's spinning its wheels at this point. I've had to wait about 15-20 minutes a few times. eventually Mail lets you through even if it fails to connect to the smtp server. then, once the account is created you can edit the smtp server and try a few different ports and settings. that's done in system preferences->accounts. click on teh smtp server at the bottom and select 'edit smtp server list". then in the popup click "advanced".

  • Changing smtp port on NS 3.5

Is there a way to change port for smtp on NS 3.5 (yes I don't want to upgrade to v.4)

Well, we used to be able to do this, depending on the platform. We used to use a program, called "patcher" to directly manipulate the binary. Only on solaris.
I doubt that this binary is available anymore.
Messaging Server 3.xx is LONG dead. Messaging Server 4 is also EOSL, meaning End Of Support Life.
Messaging 5.2 and 6.1 are considered "current". I strongly urge you to upgrade.

  • Change SMTP port to 587 doesn't work

    Hi,
my ISP blocks port 25, ok and no problem - not for the iphone.
When i change port 25 to 587 it checks the config - works.
After i gone back in the menu the account list, to save the settings, (still in the settings) and go again to the SMTP settings, port 587 has changed to port 25.
    Using iOS 4.
    Some ideas?
I think the "smash the iphone" method should be the best - self created SSL certs make some problems to the mail.app and so on - very bad. Works under OS X but not on iOS. Never mind, it's ok if i could save atm the port 587.
    Cheers

    Still the same...
Port 465 changes also back to 25.
My provider @ home needs port 25, ever other port won't work.
Outside i have to use port 465 or 587, but these ports don't be saved - i could only send 1 mail (wich is currently pending to send) after change the settings.

  • Changing SMTP authentication method...

Is it possible to change the SMTP authentication method without using the mail/preferences/accounts/smtp server settings route? My Dad's iMac is a "white box" to him - he has no idea what's going on inside it. When it works, he's fine, when it doesn't he calls me. His email stopped sending a couple of days ago, and the error message indicates that "the server didn't support CMD-RM5 authentication" (or something like it). So I walked him through going into the account settings and setting the SMTP server authentication method back to "none" and everything works fine again. But he's adamant he's never been through those dialogues before - and believe me, I think he's right - he'd never think to mess with that stuff. So, how did it get changed? Is there any other shortcut or application that might change the SMTP authentication setting that he could somehow have triggered? Corrupt plist file?
    best regards,
    Matt

  • Utl_mail fails when I change smtp server

    Hi,
I've changed the parameter "smtp_out_server" to a new MS Exchange server.
After the change I can't use utl_mail.send as I've done earlier.
I've tried to modify address based on note "406256.1" but still it doesn't work.
    EXEC utl_mail.send(sender => '<[email protected]>',
    recipients => '<[email protected]>',
    subject => 'Testing UTL_MAIL Option',
    message => 'blah blah blah');
Ora-29279: Smtp Permanent Error: 501 Bad Address Syntax Ora-29279
    Please I need some help
    Cheers

That seems to indicate that your Exchange server doesn't like the format of your addresses.
You could talk with the Exchange admin to see what syntax the server does like. My first thought, however, would be to remove the angle brackets from the sender & recipient and see if that works.

  • Change smtp port from 25 to 26

    Hello.
My ISP is blocking my smtp port 25, so I have been using port forward in my airport. 26-25. The DNS is set up til contact me on port 26.
Now I have a new router, and it doesn't have that feature, so I would like to have my mac server to listen on port 26 as smtp instead.
    How do I change that?

You need to add a second listener to your mail server by editing the /etc/postfix/master.cf file. You must do this as root and using a command line editor is recommended. Make a backup of the file first. You do not need to stop mail services to edit the file but you will need to stop and then start mail to make the change recognized.
The line you need to add should look like this:
    26 inet n - n - - smtpd
Test it internally after restarting mail services with a:
    telnet localhost 26
    Hope this helps
