Change speed CPU-fan KT4-ultra

Does anyone know if you can change the speed of the fan on your cpu on the KT4-ultra. I tried everything with software, but nothing helps! Mayby MSI has blocked it?
Thanks.

You could try adifferent heatsink fan with a variable speed control - I use a coolermaster hac-v81 which has a speed control allowing speeds upto 5000rpm lower than 3000rpm at the bottom end.
I don't know of any mobos that allow you to control fan speed

    Hi everybody
My question is: what is the range (min and max rpm) in which cpu fan speed should stay?
I have an Athlon64 3000 with retail fan.
    Thanks for your help

If you set the fan control to "user mode", change the CPU Fan to "low speed" hit apply, then change the fan control back to "cool'n'quiet" you should find that corecenter will start up at low fan speed. corecenter seems to set the fan at whatever was last set in "user mode" on startup which is max speed by default.
Might save you a few seconds every boot up...

Which is the best average in RPM of a CPU Fan? In this case, to my Mobo System.
    Thanks.

I would say speed within 2500 and 4000 rpm should be the right speed cpu fan for your configuration.

  • KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) Please help me!

After som reading at MSI homepage i noticed that my motherboard suppurted AMD Athlon 3000+ if i flashed the BIOS.
So i did get a brand new AMD Athlon 3000+, flashed the BIOS to ver 1.4. And I changed the Frequency/Voltage to 166, and i was up and running.....for a while. Every time a start a game like FS 2004 or are working in 3-4 different programs the computer like DW, PS and Illustratoer:
    1. close down one or two programs, or shuts down the game, without any warning.
    2. reboot the computer without any warning.
But if i change the Frequency/Voltage to 133 the system get's stabil.

  • KT4 ULTRA : CPU fan & AGP mode

    Hello,
    I have 2 problems :
1)Each first starting of my computer, there is 6 or 8 rings and it's written :
    CPU fan isn't running?  Y/N
In reality, the fan is running correctly, but it is thermoregulated.
This fan is connected to CFAN1 and I have another fan system in NBFAN1
Do you have a solution for this problem?

In the Bios, AGP MODE is in AUTO (grey), I can't change.
    In reality, I saw it's AGP*2 or AGP*4, but not *8.
The informations in the Bios AGP Timing Control are :

    AGP Fast write : Enabled
    AGP Aoerture Size : 256MB
    AGP Master 1 W/SWrite : Disabled
    AGP Master 1 W/SRead : Disabled

I suspect you have hardware problem with a fan sensor. Doing a software install will not help the machine needs to be taken in for service. If you run Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode it should reveal the error code. If it does not then run AHT an additional 2-3 times to be sure in Extended Mode. Each pass will take about 30-60 minutes.

  • KT4 Ultra (6590) - NB Chipset Sensor Fan

The KT4 Ultra have three Fan Power Connectors, how can i read in the manual:
    "Fan Power Connectors: CFAN1/SFAN1/NBFAN1
The CFAN1 (processor fan), SFAN1 (system fan) and NBFAN1
(NorthBridge fan) support system cooling fan with +12V. It supports three pin
    head connector."
The mobo have onboard a Winbond W83697HF sensor chipset.
With every software (PCAlert,Speedfan,Everest) i tried to read sensors statistics (Temp/Fan speed), i can read only two stats.
    I have three fan connected:
1 for the CPU - CFAN1 (i can read Temp and Fan speed)
1 for the system - SFAN1 (i can read Temp and Fan speed)
1 for the NorthBridge - NBFAN1 (provided by the mobo itself and i can't read stats)
The NBFan is working and is three pin capable (three wires).
Every software show only two stats and not three with one all zero.
Now i have to change the fan or simple the mobo don't provide stats for the NB chipset?
someone with the same mobo can read this stats?
    Thanks for every help.

Has it been like this for 5+ years? Probably the sensor is gone or damaged. Don't think so, but it is also possible the fan connection is damaged, so not all three reach the motherboard. (Upside down?)
If you have no problem I wouldn't worry about it. Once you start experiencing problems get a fanless heatsink, from Zalman for example. Think this will fit:

  • KT4 Ultra and PC3200 speed detect problem

    Hi all,
I am new to the forum, having just bought a KT4 Ultra for my new system.  It features the following components:
KT4 Ultra (sorry not sure of model number as I'm posting from work, but I checked for BIOS updates and there's only one which looks like a  USB2 compatibility fix)
    1 stick of 512Mb PC3200 memory
    AMD 2700XP+ (333FSB) CPU
ATI Radeon 9000 128Mb (this will do until DX9 cards available
Intel 100 Pro network card for my ADSL hub (my KT4 did not come with onboard network socket)
    350W power supply
    Win2K Pro SP3
I have two problems.  One is that the machine won't ever shutdown - it always reboots.  Having done a search of this forum, I will check the "Wake on LAN" settings in the BIOS as of course, plugged into an ADSL router, the LAN+WAN is constantly live... so I'm hoping that will be fixed later today....
But, the second problem is one of performance - in that with the initial auto detect settings, the BIOS found a 1500+ CPU and 400Mhz memory.  When I manually change the bus speed to 166, the CPU is recognised correctly as a 2700, but the memory dropped down to 333Mhz speed.  If I then disable the autodetect for the memory and manualyl set 400Mhz and CAS2 speed, I can't even get to the BIOS screen on bootup.  I get 4 or 5 short beeps, nothing on the display and need to short pins 2+3 of JCAT1 to reset to factory defaults.
Any idea how I can get my PC to boot with the correct speed memory (ie PC3200@400)?
    Thanks for any tips,
    Mike.

    Hi
I have the same problem when I set FSB to 200Mhz - DDR to 400Mhz and on boot screen i always see DDR 333.
I make a test and when I use 152Mhz FSB (or up) DDR Always is 333Mhz no maters than in Bios is saved DDR400.
    My system is
    t-bred 1700+ (133x10.5) fabrique unlocked
    MSK kt4 ultra (6590)
    bios v1.1
    256mb ddr 400 samsung c3
    msi g4200td 128mb
    60gb maxtor diamond max
    I make some tests
    CPU on 200Mhz FSB x 8.5 multiplier, or 8 or 7.5 or 7 (1.575V)
    MEM always show DDR333
    WHY ?
It is possible to run FSB/MEM sincrhony on 200Mhz ?
I also make a mem tests with Sandra 2003 when
    I use 200Fsb x 8.5 and Bios DDR 333  and
    200Fsb x 8.5 and Bios DDR 400
the results is the same .
I'm sure that On boot Screen DDR information is right.
and always DDR is on 333 mhz wneh FSB is more than 152mhz No mather what you set in Bios ( 266 or 333 or 400)
    And other strange thing is:
with my previous locked XP 1600+ (10.5 x 133) I can run on 166FSB / MEM with this DDR (samsung) on max aggressive settings 2.5 2-5-2 1 Ultra
    now with my new CPU i can't run on 166FSB less tnah 3 3-6-3 2 Normal ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • CPU FAN Speed & Voltages Question?

I have an MSI KT4 Ultra MB with a retail AMD XP2400 Processor which came with a Fan & Heatsink.
    1. My Temps are fine, gen However my CPU Fan speed varies & I get the following speeds indicated at various times - 4141, 4167, 4116, 4193. Is this OK? I do not believe my Fan speed can be controlled by S/W so I was wonsering why this oocurs?

  • KT4 Ultra-BSR multipler & CPU volts on XP2400 dont work!

Well after several atempts and clearing the cmos several times the multipler dosnt work on XP2400 and when you go to change the cpu voltage from auto it comes up with strange symbols not a voltage to select! so iam stuck at 141fsb and CPU voltage set to auto i can change the FSB only except lower or to 141, why is it asus and epox can change the multipler and we cant on our MSI KT4 Ultra, iam disapointed and who wouldnt be after all others can change there multipler!
any surgestions would be welcome and i think MSI should address this problem with a bios update and also look at the voltages for CPU as symbols mean nothing to me! ?(

Oops, I meant how did you connect the module to the motherboard??  I can't find anyway in which to connect it directly into the mobo, and I didn't get a cable with mine.  (I still haven't got to the software side of it yet - the hardware has been my prob for the past few weeks, no-one seems to be able to answer me).
Hope you can tell me how to do it (pref with some pics or something coz I'm starting to think my retailer sent me the wrong board).

  • [Solved] Asus L1366 mobo, cpu fan speed control

    Hi, everyone,
I finally have this new core i7 system, to replace my old AMD athlonx2.  I have one question about the CPU fan speed control.
I remember that in my old system, the cpu fan speed control works out of box, no configuration is needed.
But when I install arch 64 on this new i7 system, the cpu fan is running at its maximum speed constantly while the CPU temperature is modestly low. I know there is a wiki teaching how to do it.
However, I am just curious why it doens't work out of box any more? Does CPU fan control work for you guys out of box normally? especially the new Core i7 cpu users?
Please let me know, really appreciated it.
    Thanks a lot.
Update: the issue is solved, see my last post, the solution is blacklisting: asus_atk0110, instead use w83667hg.
    Cheers.

First off, it would be useful to know what the sensors-detect script actually reports.
Okay. How fan control works on Linux: First, navigate to /sys/class/hwmon
Each of these folders, i.e. hwmon0, stands for a sensors monitor / fan controller on your mainboard that may control one or several fans. Inside hwmonN, there should be a subfolder called device, which contains several interfaces if your BIOS allows software-side fan control. You can read them with cat and write to them with echo.
    Examples:
pwm1_enable shows if OS-level fan control is enabled (1) or disabled and in BIOS control (0). Changing fan speed won't work if this is disabled. (i.e. cat /sys/class/hwmon0/device/pwm1_enable reports 0 -> disabled; you could enable it with echo 1 > /sys/class/hwmon0/device/pwm1_enable).
pwm1 allows to change fan speed. The values range from 0 (fan off) to 255 (full speed, 12V).
fan1_input shows the current RPM if a fan is connected. You can only read from this interface. Its useful to check all of these in the each of the hwmon folders to find out if there is actually a fan connected to the fan controller (they often have more ports than mainboard manufacturers use).
There might be a fan1_div, this is somehow related to how the kernel reads the RPM, I don't know how it works.
temp1_input interfaces can appeare too, if some of the chips have temperature sensors located somewhere. I *think* lm_sensors places the core temperatures it reads from CPU (the coretemp-isa-000X thingies) in one of the hwmon-folders too.
There might be interfaces for different fans in the same hwmon folder, i.e. pwm2_enable, pwm2, fan2_input, etc., all interfaces with the same index belong to the same physical fan connector, and all in the same hwmonN are managed by the same IC on your mainboard.
Warning: These interfaces, if they work, control the fans directly without any kind of security measure. If you shut some essential fan down, it will stay off until you reboot your CPU shuts down.
(If you see something likein0_alarm, in0_input, in0_max, etc. it's a voltage monitoring chip.)
If one of those interfaces can do something, OS-level fan control does work, if none of those folders contain a working pwm interface, fan control seems to be unavailable.
Sometimes there is an option in the BIOS to enable it, and for some BIOSs software-side fan control only works if dynamic fan control is disabled in the BIOS and fan speed is set to a static value - or vice versa.
I don't know what you are using to control fan speed, there are many applications that use these interfaces, i.e. GNOME or KDE power managers, so I'm not sure what is happening:
    IF: Windows 7 enables OS-level fan control and sets it the RPM to those you observed and you have nothing that provides fan control in Arch and so fan control stays at BIOS-level, which might also read out a different sensor / the same sensor differently or it might be more conservative in setting fan speeds altogether;
OR: You have something that provides fan control installed in Arch and it reads out a the wrong value supplied by lm_sensors and thus sets a higher fan speed.
Anyway, possible solutions I can think of:
Find out if you have some kind of fan control software and what it does. For example, I use the fancontrol daemon, I can't help you if you use something else.
The wiki mentions how to assign a fan speed to a certain temperature sensors. You might assign it to a different one. For example, there are no sensor chips on the mainboard of my EEE (no temp1 etc.) so I assigned the fan speed to the temperature reported by the BIOS via ACPI (those are in /sys/class/thermal, also no "device" subfolder on EEEs):
    FCTEMPS=/sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/pwm1=/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
You could also change the MINTEMP/MAXTEMP values to one higher than those you actually want to compensate for the effect of lm_sensors reporting temperatures that are too high.
It is currently not possible for a mortal user to change the coretemps lm_sensors reads, see this post, last paragraph.
There is a configuration file, /etc/sensors3.conf, you can change sensor names and adjust offsets here, but only for the monitoring chips and their sensors that are on the mainboard.

Well, its not yet conclusive that your BIOS is bad, all we are saying at this stage is that with a new CPU, you can change settings but it will not Boot. Correct?
When you update a BIOS you only do not always change all the data stored in the memory.
I have, before now, resorted to to using the emergency recovery feature of the BIOS that is well documented.
This way, subject to the memory not having any bad addresses, you completely re-program the BIOS I.C.
Have you tried  BIGRHINO suggestion first?

  • KT4 Ultra FISR AGP Speed Problem

    Hi all,
I've got a bit of a problem and was wondering if someone can help?
I have bought the KT4 Ultra FISR and am having a problem when trying to use it with my 8x AGP Nvidia ge Force 4 ti 4200 but the bois wont let me change the AGP speed to 8x, it insists that the highest it can go is 4x.  ;(
I have run the newest 3DMark03 and it's showing that my AGP is only 2.0 and not the 3.0 that is meant to be with the board?
I was wondering if this is the problem?
I have double checked with the Graphics Card Manufacturer and they have confirmed that my card is an 8x card and I know that it was running at 8x on my last board.
I have done all of the Auto updates on the MSI motherbaord update utility but there's still no joy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Well I have the Inno36 Ti 4200 8x AGP card:

I know it's not the best card on the market but it should still be able to operate at it's advertised speed :P
A couple of the guys here at EA bought the card and theres are working fine on thier boards :(
I am not totally sure of the version number of my bios but does 1.3 ring a bell?
I wont be able to check the version till monday...
Like I said before.. I did notice that 3dmark03 noted that I was using agp 2.0, is that right?
