  • How to change sync settings in iTunes

How do you change sync settings in iTunes? I want to be able to connect my iPhone to iTunes and not have my iPhone automatically sync information to/from my computer and iPhone.

At least taking a glance through the iPhone user guide may be a good idea for you especially if you don't know how to change your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. With your iPhone connected to iTunes, select your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list. The various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes will be available in the main iTunes window.

  • ITunes 10.6 freezes when changing sync settings

Update to iTunes 10.6 on Windows 7 computer today.  Now when I try to change my sync settings, and hit "apply" - iTunes freezes and the sync does not complete.  I have already tried to factory reset the iPod Nano, and tried to totally uninstall and reinstall iTunes.  Any other suggestions?

Uninstall/Reinstall did not work. Same issue with freezing as soon as it's launched.
Just to confirm, this is 10.6.3 64-bit Windows build.

  • Changing sync settings erases iPod contents

When I upgraded to iTunes 7 the following problem came with it:
    Choose my sync settings
    Click Apply
Wait for hours as my entire music library (50GB) syncs to my iPod.
Change a syn setting (for example, choose to just sync one playlist instead of all playlists)
    Click Apply
The contents of the iPod are wiped, and ONLY the stuff I changed gets synced across to it!!
This still happens with 7.0.1. Anyone know what the problem is?
It would seem that iTunes 7 is one of the worst pieces of software ever released by Apple. I also get the usual freezes that others get amongst other bugs. Given that I'm using an 80GB iPod & a Macbook Pro it would seem that their testing didn't extend very far!

Yes, this is a TERRIBLE problem! I have two computers: one is a laptop where I don't want lots of music cluttering the drive, and one is the desktop iMac which keeps my library. BUT some days I'm working only on my laptop, and want to download a podcast onto the iPod. Two problems:
    1. On first run, the default is to "Sync" everything, and there's no way to change the setting until the iPod is plugged in. (This problem is not new to iTunes 7, IIRC.)
    2. Apparently now "Sync" means sync, but "Not sync" means ERASE EVERYTHING -- not "hands off". When I plug into the laptop (with its essentials-only music library), I don't want to Sync my music library. But even LESS do I want to ERASE everything. What were the programmers thinking?
The second problem is an amplified problem of an earlier one: it used to be that if I unchecked a podcast or a *photo folder* from a list of otherwise auto-sync stuff, that kind of podcast (or folder of photos) would disappear. So, my solution was to turn off auto-sync altogether, and drag my laptop's new podcasts over one by one so as not to lose other podcasts. That was workable. But now, I can't make my iTunes handle things manually at all, apparently?

  • Changing sync settings once mobileme has expired

I dropped mobile me, but can't figure out how to change my sync settings for Calendars to be manual instead of "over the air," as iTunes says. Settings on my iMac won't let me change anything because I'm expired. iTunes is stuck on the "over the air" thing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Robert

Add the MobileMe account back to the iPhone and turn off the calendar and contact syncing on the phone. Then sync to iTunes. This will change the preference in iTunes to show normal syncing again.

  • Computer crashed! Need to change sync settings!

My old Windows 7 computer crashed. On that computer was my iTunes and my iPhone 4 was synced to it.  Now I don't have a computer and I cant, sync music, movies, update software, or anything else.  It gives me 2 options when I connect it to my Friends computers, either erase all data and start over from this computer, or just change the iPhone.  I need to be able to change my settings on the phone so that when I get my new Windows 7 computer I don't have to start over.

Here's what you can do to save your settings and data to your friends computer until you have a new one, you'll have to repeat the procedure for your new computer.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to the new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing. Transfer your purchases by right clicking again, this time choosing "transfer purchases". When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards. Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

Saving other data is also explained here. How to back up your data and set up as a new device
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • How do I change sync settings from apple tv to pc

    Hi,
I am only seeing in in tunes Photos and summary and when right click on apple tv in devices, it just tells me 'turn off streaming'. So I try to set my settings from automatically to manual, but I do not know how.
    Can anyone help me please.
Have a lot of kidsmovies purchased on Apple tv and cannot load them up on itunes.

This is done via the AppleTV. You setup it via AppleTV to just Stream.
So go to ATV and go to settings, computers and tell it to un-link with your computer. Then set it up as a Syncing computer there (note, only one computer can sync with the ATV at a time).
The computer in ATV should have like a Chain Link icon next to it if set for Syncing and not just streaming.
It will give you a 4 digit code to go enter into iTunes on your computer. Once done, then you can have full sync options.

  • How do I change Syncing settings for Address Book, iCal, etc?

I remember when I setup my operating system, it asked what percent of changes
to Address Book, iCal, etc. I wanted to set between my computers, before I was notified. I think the default was 5%. But I'd like to change that setting. Does anyone know where I can find that?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Barney-15E,
    Thanks that's it.
I always forget to open iSync.
I tried looking in the MobileMe.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    You cannot.
By Design the iPhone can Only Sync to One iTunes Library at a time.

  • How can I change the settings so notes don't sync to my email?

I don't like how notes always syncs to my email, because it's pretty much send my diary out, even it there's not much stuff there. How do I change the settings so they don't sync?
Thanks. It might seem like an obvious question, but I can't find the preferences in settings.

Go to Preferences in Mac Mail on your computer. Open Accounts. Open Gmail Account. Select Mailbox behaviors and uncheck "Show notes in inbox". I just figured it out a couple minutes ago, but so far notes will update on the computer, iphone and ipad and nothing has been erased.

The main settings that are changed in these cases can be found in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386
To ensure you don't lose any data you don't want taken off, ensure that each Summary, Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, iTunes U, Books, & Photos have the settings you would prefer on the computer.
If anything gets changed on any of those pages, you will be prompted with that message.  If they look fine, especially after adding some media like songs or videos, then you can apply the changes without fear.

  • When trying to update my ipad tp iOS8, i received a message that I must change my media sync settings.  How do I do that?

When trying to upday\te my iPad to iOS8, i received a pop up saying that I must change my media sync settings.  How do I do that?

This usually means you don't have enough storage on your iPad to do the update.  Go to Settings > General > About and check how much memory is available.  If you have less than 5GB you'll need to either delete data off your iPad, such as apps, photos, music, videos.
    OR
Connect your iPad ot your computer and update iOS via iTunes sync.

Why do I receive a message that states I need to change to my media sync settings on iphone when my summary shows over 3GB of free space? THe message states the amount of storage needed (610 MB), which is considerably less than my summary shows currently available.

    # Yes, if you go to accounts.firefox.org, sign out, you will now be signed out.
    # Sign back in, and you will be asked to save the password you entered.
    # This will save the password and autocomplete if you have this option turned on.
I am not exactly sure why the menu did not detect the password change or if it was stored incorrectly after you changed it? But after storing the correct password you can manage any duplicate passwords in the password manager.[[Password manager - Remember, delete and change saved passwords in Firefox]]
