Sandra Koenig

Hi,
That's true you might need to check the scheduled script where password is hard-coded. I hv one point over here. How to change the password for SYS..? Is it by deleting & recreating password file with orapw utility or do we hv any other way to do it.

    Hello Tychos,
I am able to make a sqlplus connection, but your hint send me in the correct direction. I had a special character "@" in the password and I think that was the reason for my problems with RMAN.

  • Silent install of Ora9.2+DB: how to avoid (sys, system) password dialog?

    Hi,
I used a modified personal.rsp and dbca.rsp to install Oracle 9.2 personal and a DB on Win2k/XPp, but despite the "-slient" flag, I get a dialog prompting for the sys, system passwords in the end.
How can I avoid this? Are there (undocumented) parameters for dbca.rsp which allow to avoid the dialog?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
Use below command and you no need to pass userid/password. It works for all versions.
    imp \'/ AS SYSDBA\' full=Y CONSTRAINTS=Y FILE=V:\exp_test20090729.dmp

  • Sys & system passwords unknown

I installed 9i on my home computer for personal, educational use. SYS and SYSTEM passwords were changed, but now are lost. Do I need to uninstall & reinstall the database in order to correct the problem?

If your sysman account keeps getting locked(timed), could it be something with a profile setting you have? I'm not that familiar yet with 11g, but I know in 10g the default profile has FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS set for will lock after 10 unsuccessful login attempts.
Is perhaps your OEM attempting to use a wrong password and continues to connect until it locks the account?
Or perhaps there is a default password_life_time (expire_time).

  • Changing the system password after a node is defined in the Maintenance Wiz

The system password has changed since the project started and I do not know the steps to make the change in the tool to the new password. The new password works fine in EBS command line stuff but the tool won't work because of the old password.
    Any help would be great!!
Thanks in advanced for you help!!
    David B

You'll have to go into the Define Nodes form, and edit the Database Node for your project.
Change the password there, and then Configure Nodes again (using the button).
Doing this will force you to re-run step 1 of the Configuration Category, which should re-propogate that change to everywhere.

  • Changing the 'system' password, and now the service is denied to start??? (WLS 6.0)

I have been looking for awhile,.. and I haven't found this one yet..
I reinstalled weblogic.. (for reasons unmentionable, like deleting things
    accidentally, etc.. )
I had the chance to specify a new system password. After realizing that it
likes to show me plain text when I start it via. scripts, or when it prompts
me.. plain text again, I chose to use the password 'password' instead of my
original "high security" password I had used. The problem now is that the
service that was installed is being denied access to start weblogic. It
seems to be using the old password. I can uninstallNtService, restart, and
installNtService, but it fails again. It's as if the password data is being
cached or stored somewhere. I'd like to change this!!....
I searched all the obvious places, (looking for plain text, of course) for
my old password,... the registry, WINNT, .. the wlogic6 folder.. Couldn't
find where it stores it. It's probably encrypted, though.. So.. my
    question.
How do I change the password that the WebLogic service uses to startup
    WebLogic?
    Thanks is advance,

You need to be connected to the CDB/root to change it
See the Oracle doc for how to connect to the root

8.5 Accessing Oracle Database with SQL*Plus
To issue SQL and PL/SQL statements to Oracle Database, you can use SQL*Plus. This tool enables you to perform the same database management operations, and query, insert, update, or delete data directly in the database.
To start SQL*Plus, from the Start menu, select All Programs, then Oracle - HOMENAME, then Application Development, and then SQL Plus.
Alternatively, at the command line, you can enter the following command at a Windows command prompt:
    C:\> sqlplus /nolog  SQL> CONNECT user_name  Enter password: password
For example, to log on as SYSTEM using the password password, you enter:
C:\> sqlplus /nolog  SQL> CONNECT SYSTEM  Enter password: password
Then change the password. You could also log onto the root as SYS as SYSDBA and then change the SYSTEM password.

  • Failed in changing sys password

    Dear Experts,
Loged on as DBA I perform the following:
alter user sys identified by my_new_strong_pass
Trying then to log on as sys using this new pass, the pass is said not to be correct.
I'm running 9iR2. More (even if sys and system are not comparable) I can change the system password and log on corretly afterwards.
    Any idea is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Guillaume

You are definitely right. I did so and it worked but the pb is I can't stay with SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(NTS) because using dba studio I get a "shared memory realm not available" if I try to restart the DB once stopped for any reason.
I need to set back to SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=none. This behavior is new following the migration of the servers into AD. Buit keeping this "none" setting prevents me from connecting using Dba studio or Toad.
Did one of you already experience such a behavior of the DB ?
I don't have the same issue with the other instance hosted on the server, I mean connected as DBA I can change the pass of sys under Toad and connect with the new password keeping the setting to "none".
    Best Regards,
    Guillaume

  • Oracle SYS/SYSTEM shared passwords

Unfortunately we have a requirement not to have the sys/system passwords shared even among the DBA staff. Someone mentioned an Oracle article which details not having shared passwords. The problem is that security perceives this issue as a threat. I have argued until I am blue in the face that these two accounts are needed by the dba team. Does anyone have any information on this subject to pass along? Things that worked and even those that didnt? The real issue comes into play when you start looking at cron jobs on the oracle account which have most of the privileged passwords visible.
    Thanks!

You could argue that with me - a DBA - until you are blue in the face and you would still loose. You DO NOT need the sys and system accounts to do your job as a DBA.
    Here is what we do...
    1. create a role, or set of roles something like DBA_SENIOR, DBA_SECURITY, DBA_USERADMIN, etc. Give them all of the privileges they need for their specific jobs.
    2. create user accounts for each DBA - we use externally identified but they need not be.
    3. grant each DBA his appropriate role.
    4. create a password file.
    5. grant sysdba to the DBAs - so that they can become SYS on those times when it is the only way to do what needs to be done.
    6. give sys and system impossible passwords.
    7. DO NOT grant DBA role to anyone.
Now you have met the requirement and your dba's can do their jobs. And if you create scripts, then it is easy to make this routine for whenever you create a database.

  • Alter SYS & SYSTEM pwd on any database

I have 96 instances and have to establish a policy of enforced SYS & SYSTEM password changes on a monthly basis.
I would like to schedule an OEM job to do it; does anyone have any experience of doing this? I believe it can be done as a PL/SQL job using the DBMS_SQL.OPEN_CURSOR and DBMS_SQL.PARSE procedures to execute the alter user command.
    Any help gratefully received.

96 instances? do you have to administer the same users on all databases as well? If so, you might want to go for an account sync-ing solution where all credentials are stored in a central place and a change of a user in any of the databases or the central place will update all 96 instances for you. Novell's DirXml will do just that for you. I've had some great experiences with it.
(I don't have much experience with jobs, so sorry, no direct answer from me)

  • SYSTEM PASSWORD LOST

  • RAC DB and ASM SYS user passwords

    Hi,
We are planning to change SYS user password of our RAC instances SYS user password. But one of my colleague is saying that if we change the DB password we need to change the ASM password too and ASM instances password should match the DB password i.e. the DB new password should be same as ASM new password.
Is it true that we need to change the ASM password too if we change the DB same password ? and does ASM password need to be same as DB password?
    Thanks,
    Mahipal Reddy

    Hi,
Not true. You can have different paasswords for sys and asm. ASM has a different password file and db instance has a different password file. You can change one without changing the other and they both don't have to be the same.
