Change Technical Name

Hi Gurus,
Any way to change the technical name of a RKF or a CKF?
When I right click on the context menu of any RKF and open the Edit/Properties, I do not see the Tech name editable.
Any chance?
Manesh.

Hello Manesh,
You can change the technical name of CKF and RKF from the table: RSZELTDIR & RSZCOMPDIR
In the table RSZCOMPDIR, Change COMPID (Technical name of Query elements will be stored here)
and also do make changes in the table RSZELTDIR
In the selection of table use RSZELTDIR - DEFTP = CKF/SET
then RSZELDIR - MAPNAME represents the calculated keyfigure or restricted keyfigure.
Changing the value of MAPNAME will change the technical name.
I hope this information helps.

NK.A

• Change Technical name of the Cube.

Hi All,
Is there a way we can chnage the Technical Name of The Cube.
Thanks
Umang

Hello Umang,
It is not possible to change the technical name of a Cube. There are too many complexities.
You could create a new cube with the same structure using the 'copy from ' function while creating it and give it the desired name..
If it helps, provide points.

• Change Technical Name of Info Provider

Hi Experts,
I am in a situation where I have to change the technical name of the DSO. Is it possible? If so, please tell me how to do it.
With Kind Regards,
Kannan

Hi Kannan,
No, you cannot change the technical name of DSO, only the description can be changed.
If your DSO is a new one and the data is not yet loaded. Just delete it and create a new one. But if it is an old one and data is loaded, then you have to backup that data , delete the old DSO and create a new one (You may also create a copy of DSO). Make sure the update rules/Transformation related to your DSO are also checked because it will create issues if your DSO is a source for other targets.
Hope this helps

• Change technical name of queries and views

Hi everybody,
I need to copy a query with its query views. The problem is that I want to give a new name for each query and each view. And the views will belong to the new query.
Is that possible, or should I copy the query and define the views again?

let say u r in query designer.
than hit the menu tab and select the first tab i.e. QUERY.
now in that choose the option SAVE AS.
it willask you for new name and new technical name.
(the query will still be saved in ur multiprovider.)
for views u have to define new views for ur new query

• How to change Query Description/Technical name of a query

Hi I have couple of questions with Query name changing.
1)Is it possible to change the Technical name of a query?
If Yes how?
2)I could change the description of a query but when the same query is saved in a role how to change its description?
Thanks
Ajay

hi,
open your query in query designer and use button 'save as' then you can change name description.
Remember that when you change technical name it will be completely new query and you will have to add it to your role.

• Changing role names

Hi,
I'm running BW 3.0B- i want to change some of my existing role names - I know it can be done by copying the role and giving the new copied role a new name but i don't want to do it this way.
Regards,
Moshe

You can change the role description but you can't change technical name of the role, technical name is the identifier of the role

• BPC 10.0 NW - Change technical cube name during transport

Hej gurus,
One of our users have run a full optimization, and therefore the technical names of the cubes in DEV and PRD are no longer the same.
We have looked at the SAP notes, and found the following.
1689814 – “Stabilize InfoCube's technical name in the modeling process”
We have made sure the note is on both DEV and PRD, and we have enabled "ENABLE_FIXED_CUBENAME" on all models. By doing this the notes states that: "If the InfoCube technical names of the model are different between source and target system, the technical name of the InfoCube on target system would be changed to the same as the technical name of the InfoCube on source system."
When I run the transport, the transport is succesfull, but the technical name has not changed.
Therfore, I would like to know, if anybody have tried using this note and successfully changed the technical name? If yes, what did you exactly do? Did you transport everything for making it work? clear the database?
I hope somebody can help us.
Best regards,
Mikkel Kristensen

Hi Mikkel,
Did you have any luck with this? The only time I had any luck was changing the target structure (adding a dimension in the target), when the transport went through it changed the structure and reset the technical name to the source name. It doesn't appear to work if the technical name is not due to be reset.
Best,
Chris

• Is It POSSIBLE to change the Technical Name of Z-version Query

Hi Friends ,
I was changed all quereis and cube from standard version to Z version.
For queries, by using rszc , i was changed to Zversion,Now again is it
possible to change the Technical Name of Zversion Query ?
If possible , can you please tell me the process ?

Hi Hameed,
This may be the reason you are getting an error.
The target InfoCube, the InfoCube for the query copies, must contain all the InfoObjects of the source InfoCube (InfoCube of the original queries).
The another reasons may be the copying of queries within the same cube shouldn't be done by RSZC.
It's better to approach the Bex Query designer.
Hope you understood..

• Can't change a Restricted Key Figure technical name in QD BEx 7.1.0

A few days ago I created a new Restricted Key Figure in Query Designer and it was autopopulated with a default technical name. So I immediately changed it to 'ZRNPVORDINTFACTPPP_FY'.
Now, today, I realized that the 'F' in the technical name is a typographical error and I need to remove it. I clicked the Restricted Key Figure on the left from within the list and clicked the Change/Display pencil icon in the properties window, but the Technical Name field is still greyed out. Also tried right clicking and selecting Edit, but same problem.
Would removing all instances of where the figure is used in the query and other queries allow me to change it? Could it be a user rights issue?
As always, thanks for the help!

Hi,
After creating a RKF , you cannot change its technical name.
If the RKF has a lot of restrictions and creation of another similar RKF is a big process ,
you can create a copy of the same through transaction RSZC.
In RSZC , give the source and target cube name as the name of the multiprovider on which your query is built,
select restricted keyfigure ,click on execute , in the list which comes after execute find your KF 'ZRNPVORDINTFACTPPP_FY'
and click on transfer/copy option available.Change the technical name as you want and then click on execute. A similar keyfigure with the desired technical name will be created in query designer ,global keyfigures .
Replace the same with your Old keyfigure in report.

• Changing the technical names of an ODS and queries

Can I change the technical name of an ODS and the queries that are built on it? If so how? Thanks

Hi Niten,
As said by others it is not possible to change the technical name of any BW Object as there are too many complexities involved. However a possible option is create another ODS/cube and queries as the copy of the existing one and then transfer all the data.

3) there where we write tcode...there you write COPY.......
4)Then it will ask for a new technical name for the chain...there you gave a new technical name and copy the same chain..........

• Is it possible to change InfoCube technical name/rename it?

Is it possible to change InfoCube technical name/rename it?
Thank you,
AG

I think no possibility to rename the technical name since it's such a 'key field'.
if not in production yet and no data and the 'afterward' not too much (reporting related, multiprovider), you may consider to copy the cube to the name you want, then copy update rules (this can be easy done), and copy queries.
Hope it helps.

• Technical name Change of variable

Hi Experts - We have already created some Char variable which are widely used in bex Query.
Now Client came up with New Variable Technical Naming Standard ,
Is there any way by which i can change the technical name of the existing variables , without loosing any functionality.
Thanks
R

Hi rohan1103,
The technical names of variables in BEx are auto generated and can be changed as long as the variable has not been saved. Once it has been saved, the technical name cannot be changed.
