Change the material no. range

Hi Friends,
I want to change the material no. range for the material types defined in the system. Currently they are assigned 5 digit no. range I want to change this and increase to 7 digit no.
Can some please guide how can I achieve this.

In PM order, can we change the material description for item category N?

Hi,
In Plant Maintenance work order, is there a way to change the material description while purchasing material (item category N) using a material master number? In config. the material description field is open for input. However on the work order components screen it becomes grey as soon as one enters a material master number.
Background: We want to maintain generic material master records in the system and use them for purchasing materials (item category N) on work orders so that the purchasing data defaults from the material master. But we need to be able to change the description per the specific requirement.
Similar functionality works on sales orders. Are we missing anything?

One solution would be to have some generic materials created and used them during work order processing. These generic materials needs to be extended to all the required plants.

How to change the material group in existing PO

I want to change the material group in already exist PO. like one material have the material group 1002. i have changed the material group in material master i.e. 0022.
In already existed PO for this material, material group is not changing. how do we do this.

if ur po is processed then it is not possible
if it is not processed for gr then just delete the existing material and give new entry of material in same po

the default date range cannot be changed by users. It is defined system-wide.

I have used BAPI_EQUI_CHANGE and BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT to change the material no. of an equipment, but it is not getting updated. can you pls provide the exact parameters to be passed to the BAPI for the purpose OR else pls suggest any alternative solution.

One Equipment Belongs to One Material only. Why you want to change?
Anyway, I think it is possible using T.Code IE02.
You can create a BDC for that, if you have a list.

Dear All,
i have changed the material type "FERT" to "ROH" wrongly and then , i am trying to reverse it . but the system give the error"material type can't be changed . and its give some PO number and line item also. for all those PO's are STO PO's. this All the PO has been created last year and GR/ IR also completed. could you please explain , why the system doesn't give any error while changing the material type FERT to ROH.

Following are the pre-requisites for changing a Material type :
1. No PR , PO should exist
2 No Stock should exist .
OR
1. Account Category refernce assigned for both the material type should be same so tht the accounting determination wrt to material type is not effected .

Changing the material type for a material is possible as it has been well explained by other friends
It is because a semifinished goods one material type can become a finished goods another material type
Changing the industry sector is not possible at all
Once industry sector is assigned to a material you cant change it at all

Changing the material Group in PO -- the GL assignment doesn't change

Good morning,
we have a material group linked to a valuation class.
When we create a service purchase order, we use this material group and the G/L account is automatically updated, but if we change the material group, the G/L account doesn' change.
SAP PARAMETERS
- Material Group 1 is linked to valuation class XXXX
- Material Group 2 is linked to valuation class YYYY
- In SPRO the field G/L account is set on Display (screen layout).
Our user can change the material gruop, but the G/L account doesn't change too and this mistake could generate a wrong accounting document.
We want that the G/L account change automatically when the material group is changed and, if we cannot, we'd like to block the change of the material group (but not in Screen layout, because we are buying service without material master and we need to inser the material gorup).

Hello Anusha,
If the material is already used in purchasing, when you change the matkl field the information message M3531 :y u are changing material group, but material already used by purchasing occurs
if you double click on this message you can see the following explanations :
When changing the material group of a material that is already being used by the purchasing department, you should note that:
   The purchasing statistics show how much of a material group has
    already been ordered. Unitl the change is made, the material is
    managed under the old material group and therefore the old material
    group statistics are updated. From the moment the change is made,
    the new material group's statistics are updated.
   Some purchase orders may derive from contracts with item categories
    referring to material groups. If this is the case, the material
    cannot be used after the change has been made.
   Every purchase requisition is allocated to a release strategy that
    can depend on the material group. A new release strategy may apply
    to a new material group. Purchase requisitions that were created
    before the change are subject to the old strategy; purchase
    requisitions that were created after the change are subject to the
    new strategy.

How to clear the PPC balance to change the material type?

Dear experts,
Our customer need to change some material type (valuation class as well) from semi-finished product to purchase part. It uses Product Cost Collector for semi-finished/finished product and never makes settlement for any PCC.
To change the material type through MMAM requires zero stock and cleared PCC balance. So we removed the stock of the semi-finished product and settled the PCC for every month of this year.
Since the products could have entry this year and last year, even if we settled their balances of this year, it still can not be changed the material type.
And we do not know how to settle the PCC balance of last year because only one field YEAR can be entered on screen KK87/CO88. If I enter settleme period 11, posting period 12 and fiscal year 2007, system will give error "Period 12 is not allowed".
But we happend to find one product has no entry this year but has balance value of last year. Its material type can be changed w/o any errors, which seems last year balance has no impact material type change. I get confused.
Can any one advise whether I'm wrong and where?

Matl Povided to Vendor stock will appear in Subcontracting scenario.
If at all you have given some material to a subcontractor , this will be consumed automaticaly when you will recieve the ordered material from subcontractor.that is 543 movement will take place in the backgroung when u do the GR.
In case if u need to clear the stock u can do 542 and take the stock back to unrestricted.

I want to change the Material Group in scheduling aggrement. I am able to change in PO but i m not able to change in Scheduling aggrement. It is in display mode after creation.
I have checked the SPRO setting it is in optional entry only.

Is Apple planning on changing the material of the plastic?

If anyone can answer this i've been wanting an ipod nano for the past month but after hearing about the scratching problems... I dont know wat to do. Duz anyone know if Apple is gonna change the material on the nano to fix this scratching problem?

Anyone that knows for sure is cenrtainly under a Non-Disclosure Agreement with Apple and can't say. Any other opinion is just a guess, so you'll never know the answer, unless Apple makes some sort of statement.
