Change to Audio CD File Format?

Has there been a recent change in the way Leopard presents files when a normal audio CD is simply mounted in Finder?
I could swear they used to be presented as WAV files as recently as, say, October 2008. They're currently showing as AIFF.
Is there a different encoding in the cddafs mechanism?
If so, is there a way to revert to the old behavior?
Or am I just remembering things wrong......

Audio CDs use a special format (Solomon-Reed cross interleaved*), not WAVs or AIFF. When you open a CD in the Finder it shows the tracks as AIFFs, but this is an illusion. When you open them, they are presented as AIFFs and always have been in OSX (in OS9 you couldn't open them at all, you had to use a ripping program).
*This format adds a few extra bits to each 16-bit word, derived from it, and then interleaves the words so that the information is scattered non-sequentially along the track: this means that reading errors are spread around and thus reduced, and up to a point the extra bits can be used to reconstruct missing data - beyond that point missing data is interpolated (guessed at). None of this applies with a CD-ROM carrying AIFFs or WAVS - reading errors produce audble errors immediately. This is why audio CD is such a robust system.

  • Virus has changed all the office file format and cant open those file

    Hello
Recently I attacked by some new virus which is changed my all the office document files and added a extra extension after the office file extension. If I manually change the infected file extension to orginal file format and try open it shows error message.
Although having System Center Endpoint Protection how could it would be the affected by the virus ?
Now please suggest me how to recover the those files to orginal file format or recover MS office file???
    Thanks

    Hi,
Anti-virus solutions are necessary to protect your system but it can never be a 100% secure.
Once Office files are damaged by the viruses, we can't guarantee the files can still be recovered.
Anyway, you can still try the "Open and Repair" feature in Word to repair the file.
Take Word 2013 for example, click FILE -> Open -> Browse to the file location -> Select the document -> Find the "Open" button, click the "Open and Repair" button from the drop list. Check if this can repair the document.

  • Why when using the crop tool in Photoshop CS6 does it suddenly change the layer and file format?

I really need help with this. If I open a jpg in PS6 and crop it, the file transforms from a locked background layer to Layer 0 which is not locked. Then if I want to Save as a jpg I must flatten the layers as it is now a PSD file. SO frustrated! Anyone know what's going on?

Enable the Delete Cropped Pixels in the crop tool options up top—this is the phrasing in my PS-CC.  I assume PS-CS6 has a similar crop tool option.
If you don’t delete the cropped pixels, they are just hidden, then a layer needs to be created to hold the hidden pixels.

  • Music On Hold Audio Source File Restrictions

What is the length and codec restriction for Music on Hold audio source file?
    thanks,
    Punam

    Hi Punam,
    I don't believe there are any size restrictions;
    Here is how to change the MOH for CallManager;
    Music On Hold Audio Sources
An MOH audio translator service converts administrator-supplied audio sources to the proper format for the music on hold server to use. The audio translator uses two parameters, an input directory and an output directory. You can configure the input directory, which defaults to C:\Program Files\Cisco\MOH\DropMOHAudioSourceFilesHere, on a per-service basis. The output directory, a clusterwide parameter, contains a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) name to a shared directory on the default MOH TFTP directory. For whatever directory is specified, append \MOH.
When the administrator drops an audio source file into the input directory, the MOH Audio Translator processes the file and then moves it into the output directory along with any files that are generated. Cisco CallManager supports most audio source file formats as input sources, including wav and mp3 files. After the input audio source is converted, an audio source file exists for each codec type that the music on hold server supports. Supply the highest quality source that is available.
For each music on hold audio server, you may define up to 50 audio sources. A Cisco CallManager Administration window supports addition, update, and deletion of each audio source. The music on hold server also supports one fixed input source. The system supports the following codecs: G.711 a-law/mu-law, G.729a, and wideband.
Note: Because the G.729a codec is designed for human speech, using it with music on hold for music may not provide acceptable audio quality.

  • May I change audio file format once CD are ripped within iTunes library?

I configured iTunes to store audio under  .vaw format but after ripping 1/5 of my CDs I realize that, after synchro,  50% of my iPod memory becomes full.
So I'd like to known if it's possible to convert audio files already stored in iTunes library, I don't want to ripp once again my CDs.
    Yes I'm lazy...

By .vaw do you mean .wav?
Yes, you can select the .wav files and use the "convert selection to" (may have changed with newer versions of itunes) to a compressed format such as AAC or MP3.  This will leave the original unchanged and add a new file in the different format to your library.  You can then delete the .wav files, or leave them,

  • ITunes wont recognise Audio CD Track format files (No answer in Archive)

I have a 60GB iPod. Have downloaded the latest iTunes and iPod drives. I usually copy all songs on a spare removable mass storage disk drive, and then add the entire folder made up of hundreds and hundreds of songs.
Now. All songs with MPEG format, and the ones that already have names somewhat, as long as it is not named with Track, do get recognized and get applied in iPod. But no songs named Track and a serial number, that is in Audio CD Track format do. They get instantly copied, as they are 1KB each, both in CD and where they are copied. But nothing more than that happens. It wont be played in Windows Media Player neither. I renamed it from Track to anything else, thinking perhaps in an attempt to keep files organised iTunes deliberatly doesnt recognizes them, but that didnt worked also. The songs can be played from the CD, but arent recognized when they are copied on a disk.
How do I put the songs named Track with Audio CD Track format on my iPod. Thanks in advance.

Why Acrobat x professional is changing the text formatting specifically the font family  and the font size of the text in my pdf on exporting it to Microsoft word file format ?How should i stop Acrobat x professional from doing that so that i get an exactly same word file on exporting it from its pdf counterpart?

I was testing the preciseness & efficiency of Adobe acrobat x professional's doc conversion capabilities. As i have to take a document editing project in future which is going to need lot of pdf to word and vice versa conversions . What I did was I created a test word document converted into a pdf using a pdf maker in my word 2007 , Acrobat did convert the document from word to pdf keeping everything in the source file intact , However when i tried the other way round and attempted to convert the same pdf to word 2007 file format I lost my formatting ?So the font that I used to create the pdf are the ones taken from word 2007 which i believe is using the fonts that are installed in my computer. Any suggestions on how to preserve the formatting of the document after converting it from pdf to word file format?

  • Change default format in "save as" file format window

I month ago I asked the following question...
"How do I change the file format order that is listed in the "save as" file format window? Instead of having "Photoshop" listed as the default file, I'd like to have JPEG at the top, then TIFF, PSD, etc. I have to constantly scroll down the list to find JPEG."
Recently while selecting JPEG in the "save as" format window, I accidently selected "Large Document Format" while holding down either "control", "option", "apple key", or "shift", or a combination of keys. Now the default format in the format window is "Large Document Format" (ext.PSB). I've changed the default from "Photoshop" which is still listed at the top, to "Large Document Format". I'd like to change the default to "JPEG" but I cannot replicate the correct key(s) to change the default format in the window.

    Hello TomGroup...
I did not receive a satisfactory answer to the question. Yes, you can go

    Any updates on this issue?
I have a similar situation in that no matter what I'm working on, when I
click "Save As' then the default format option is always .tiff    If I save
as jpg and then go onto my next file, the default is still tiff again when I
try to save  No matter what I try, tiff is also my default selection.  It's
just one of those things that takes a mere 5 seconds to click the dropdown
and select .jpg, but 5 seconds times a couple hundred files per day...it
    adds up.
