Change to uk spelling

How do I change the default spelling dictionary to UK?

Do you have British English set as the default language for OS X? Go to System Preferences > International & drag British English to the top of the list.

  • Change system wide spelling checker ???

    evidently OS X has a system wide spelling checker
    I have set my region correctly but see no place to adjust the spelling checker.
    It is by default to American English and I want to change it to British or Australian/New Zealand English what ever options are available. Or do we all have to spell American?

    Hello
    Open System Preferences, International. Click on the Languages tab.
    Select Australian or British English, or what you prefer, so that it appears in the list. The choices are found on the lower right hand side : Order for sorted lists.
    Make sure your selected choice is at the top of the list.
    Note the caveat:
    +Changes take effect in the Finder the next time you log in.... and in Applications the next time you open them.+
    Open a new TextEdit document and you will see the change reflected in the spelling checking.

  • How can i change the spelling language, (Separately from the computers language)

    I have tried changing the spelling to spanish but it still has the corrector for english. As i write sometimes english and sometimes spanish i want to know how to change the entire spelling language in my computer.

    Spelling language may be changed per application, not globally. First of all, deactivate automatic spelling, if you use more languages (I am not satisfied with this, perhaps because I also use custom keyboard layouts beside the default ones) in Sys Prefs/Language and Text.
    Then, choose spelling language per app, this is usually placed in Edit/spelling and grammar; Pages has it somewhere else, under TExt/More (right option), then spelling language down right. For examnple, my spelling options in Safari, when writing this text, are as attached:

  • How to change the spelling correction language in Mail

    Hey!
    Often I have to write emails in different languages and I'm looking for a solution to change the spelling language by a click. My plan was to record the procedure of changing the language and then to add for every language one button to the mail tool bar. First I tried to record an AppleScript in Mail. Didn't work at all (actually the only app I found which records scripts is Finder). Then I recorded a similar task in Finder which works fine and tried to adopt it to Mail. It didn't work out. Has someone an idea how I can solve that problem.
    My simple training script what I tried to adopt for Mail (i just tried to change something in the Mail preferences, not the language):
    tell application "Finder" <--- replaced all "Finder" with "Mail"
    activate
    select Finder window 1
    open window of Finder preferences
    set folders open in new windows of Finder preferences to true
    close window of Finder preferences
    end tell
    Thanks
    Bastian

    Hi
    It's not that easy! Apart from the fact that Mail doesn't work the same way as Finder, it also doesn't have its own spell checker: it uses the system-wide AppleSpell service.
    The pane you see when you manually change the preferred spelling language in Mail (or TextEdit, or Safari) doesn't belong to Mail at all, and isn't directly accessible by AppleScript because AppleSpell is an invisible and unscriptable process.
    See this closed Apple Discussions thread for a brief indication of how you can change the preferred language using a shell script.
    And see this macoshints thread for an indication of the complexity of the issue.
    You need to know the "code" for each language used in the preferences file: "en_GB" for British English, "fr" for French etc etc. You would then need to wrap each shell script in an AppleScript "do shell script" command like this:
    do shell script "defaults write 'Apple Global Domain' 'NSPreferredSpellServerLanguage' \"fr\""
    to change the language to French.
    Unfortunately, I think you would also need to quit Mail and relaunch it before the change will take effect.

  • Safari on Windows. How does one change default spelling dictionary?

    How does one change the default spelling dictionary for Safari on Windows? For the Mac, it changes in response to the default locale, but on Windows, it just sets to American English and you cannot change it anywhere I can see. All my locale information in Windows is set to UK English.
    In fact on some websites, like this one, the spelling checker seems to be disabled! I'm on Windows 7 64-bit, BTW, running Safari 5.1.7

    I think I just found the answer (though I don't know why the interface is buried this way). Find a word that the American spell check is flagging, right click on it, select Spelling and Grammar, and then select Show Spelling and Grammar. Make sure that the language listed at the bottom says British English (not my choice of what to call it, so please don't blame the messenger).

    Have you tried creating a new user account and setting up Mail there to see if the problem exists in that account? If not, do that first. You can also try using Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions in your current account, then restart Mail to see if the problem is still there.

  • Problem during ORACLE 9.2.0 on HP-UX 11.11

    Hi,
    I am installing Oracle 9.2.0 on HP-UX 11.11.
    During the start of the isntallation in File locations Destination and Path"
    in Destination i write "ORACLE_HOME"
    in path i write " /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0"
    Now when i write product in path it changes to wrong spelling "prodcut" and when i try to correct it the Destination name changes to "ORACLE_HOM"
    again if i try to correct ORACLE_HOM to ORACLE_HOME the path will be changed
    it gives /opt/oracle/prodcut/9.2.0 ( again prodcut instead of product)
    I removed the old installation of the Oracle and reinstall many times but every time same error occurs.May be someone installed it with "prodcut" and there are some remaining files left over. How can i remove them??OR is it any other option to rectify this all
    Can anybody help me as i have some urgent assingment to complete this

    Hi,
    it shouldn't be necessary to reinstall the whole machine. There are some elements in /etc, directory oracle , files oraInst.loc and oratab. Maybe it already helps to delete these objects, because the installer loses its information outside the Oracle directories. If not, you may delete the complete structure under $ORACLE_BASE, but it should be made sure, only Oracle related files and directories are deleted.

  • Creating a scoring column based on threatened species lists

    I'm doing scoring for sites based on the number of threatened species at each particular site and the threat status of each of the threatened species.
    A threatened species could either have a threat status of nationally_critical, nationally_endangered, or nationally_vulnerable.
    I am trying to write a query will display a column called TOTAL_SCORE where:
    TOTAL_SCORE = (number of Nationally Critical species * 1) + (number of Nationally Endangered species * 0.5) + (number of Nationally Vulnerable species * 0.25)
    I'm able to do this using excel formulas but I have no idea how to go about writing it in SQL. I would have attached the excel spreadsheet but attachments are not allowed in this forum I think?
    See below for descriptions and DDL for the tables I have:
    I have three tables: SITES, SPECIES_LIST, THREAT_STATUS_SCORES
    The SITES table contains the site number and the species present at each particular site:
    SITE_NUMBER    SPECIES_PRESENT
    1            Olearia_pachyphylla, Oligosoma_whitakeri, Spio_aequalis

    7            Drosera_pygmaeaThe SPECIES_LIST table has a list of nationally critical, nationally endangered, and nationally vulnerable species:

    each nationally endangered species gets a score of 0.5, and each nationally vulnerable gets a score of 0.25:

    If you're using Oracle 11.2, then the query for total_scores might be:
    SELECT    pr.site_number
    ,       LISTAGG (s.species_name, ', ') WITHIN GROUP (ORDER BY s.species_name)
                               AS species_present
    ,       SUM (t.score)          AS total_score
    FROM       species_present     sp
    JOIN       species          s   ON   s.species_id    = sp.secies_id
    JOIN       threat_status_scores     t   ON   t.threat_level  = s.threat_level
    GROUP BY  pr.site_number
    ORDER BY  pr.site_numberThanks for this. This works great, all I needed to do was change a minor spelling error and not include the pr prefix at the start of site_number. What is the pr prefix? Sorry, I'm a beginner at sql.
    Here is the new full DDL based on your post:

    Why not have one table, but a separate row for each species, with the level of endangerment (if any) being an attribiute of the species? The distinction between >citically endagered species and vulnerable species is important, of course, but aren't the two kinds iof species fundamentally the same kind of entity? Don't they >have the same kinds of attributes? Aren't they used in the same way?
    Here's one possible table design:
    You're right. It is much better to have a single table for threatened species with three columns: species_id, species_name, and threat_level.
    Since species_name is unique, and (I imagine) it is unlikely to change, then there might be an argument for not having a species_id, and making species_name the >primary key.Species_names are unique, however believe it or not they do sometimes change - at least in New Zealand! The botanists and ecologists put out updated species lists every few years and occassionally they will change species names for various reasons.
    You're right; that would be a problem. The number of columns in a table is fixed, and while that number can be adjusted, it's not something that people do all the >time. Tables can have as many rows as necessary, and adding or removing rows is easy. Put each sighting on a separate row, something like this:
    CREATE TABLE species_present
    (   site_number          NUMBER (10)
    ,   species_id          NUMBER (10)
    ,   CONSTRAINT species_present_pk PRIMARY KEY ( site_number
                                                , species_id
    INSERT INTO species_present (site_number, species_id) VALUES (1, 1);
    INSERT INTO species_present (site_number, species_id) VALUES (1, 4);
    INSERT INTO species_present (site_number, species_id) VALUES (1, 9);
    INSERT INTO species_present (site_number, species_id) VALUES (4, 9);I think that this is a good idea. However, I'm not allowed to change sites table (I should have mentioned this earlier).
    What happens is that contractors collect the threatened species information and they have already put the table in this format:
    CREATE TABLE sites
    (site_number varchar2(3) not null,
    species_present varchar2(255),
    CONSTRAINT site_number_pk PRIMARY KEY (site_number))
    INSERT INTO sites VALUES (1, 'Olearia_pachyphylla, Oligosoma_whitakeri, Spio_aequalis');
    INSERT INTO sites VALUES (2, 'Ophioglossum_petiolatum, Ourisia_modesta, Pachycladon_exile');
    INSERT INTO sites VALUES (3, 'Dichelachne_micrantha, Galaxias_pullus');
    INSERT INTO sites VALUES (4, 'Spio_aequalis');
    INSERT INTO sites VALUES (5, 'Pachycladon_exile, Geranium_retrorsum');
    INSERT INTO sites VALUES (6, 'Olearia_pachyphylla, Ourisia_modesta, Oligosoma_judgei');
    INSERT INTO sites VALUES (7, 'Drosera_pygmaea');

  • DSfW and Citrix VDI-in-a-Box/Kaviza/Vertex DTAgent

    Greetings,
    I am attempting to connect an evaluation VDI-in-a-Box to a DSfW environment.
    I have successfully joined the appliance to a DSfW domain after applying all patches to the DSfW server.
    All appears well starting out with the setup. However, I have observed the following problem.
    Normal Scenario
    In a Microsoft AD Domain, the virtual desktop exhibits no problems after the Citrix Desktop Agent (dtagent) is installed.
    DSfW Scenario
    Joining the virtual desktop to the domain exhibits no problems until after the Citrix Desktop Agent is installed. After installation of the dtagent, all user profiles stop functioning after reboot. As a result, many services fail during boot, and logins no longer function with various errors including "User Profile Service Failed the Logon," "Access Denied," and "RPC Service is Unavailable." Safe Mode also fails with the system rebooting before a logon screen appears.
    I am looking for insight into this problem and am wondering if anyone on the list can point me in the right direction.

    Hi,
    I have tried this already with good and bad result.
    My problem was the following, with a "old" tree without the country top object there was no way to to provisioning vdi-in-abox desktops, you have to be able to do a ldap search in the format cn=domain,cn=ad and that does not work if you install dsfw in a existing tree.
    But if you are aware of that and create a new dsfw tree with the country top object, it should work fine or at least did that for me after getting some help from Novell's dsfw team.
    I did have issues using the Swedish spelled standard administrator after changing to English spelled administrator (and no non English characters in the password), but this was more a Kaviza thing I think.
    So I can say that it should work with dsfw and I have not see the problem you are facing, so I'm not to much help to you there.
    But at least you know that it is possible.
    I had no issues installing the desktop agent in Windows 7 (x86 and x64) or Windows XP.
    Best regards
    Lennart

    Take a tour of the new form field-related buttons, dialog boxes and menu commands in InDesign. Compare the old and new ways of creating interactive forms.
    http://adobe.ly/Jo3btR

    The big problem I see, is if you change the artwork - you'll have to redo all your acrobat tweaks for every field. Before CS6, when the fields were saved in the Acrobat file, you'd simply replace the page behind the fields and all the settings stayed the same.
    If I'm making a multi-page form, with dozens of fields, and all I want to do is change a quick spelling error or something, I'll fix it in Indesign, export, and have to redo all the acrobat field changes over again, thereby making this field function in Indesign useless for any piece that needs regular updating.
    I really hope I'm wrong. Can you think of a solution for this? How can I maintain the field tweaks done in Acrobat should I need to change the artwork?

  • Regenerate a procedure

    Hi all
    How we can regenerate a procedure from USER_SOURCE, if our source file is missing????

    From the wikipedia entry on nouns:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noun
    Mass noun
    A mass noun is a noun that cannot combine with numerals or quantifiers (examples: "one", "two", "several", "every", "most", ...) or with grammatical number, i.e. singular vs. plural. Examples: "two chairs" vs. "two furnitures".
    It is often thought that a mass noun is a type of common noun that represents a substance not easily quantified by a number. This is based on the fact that substances like water are indeed difficult to count. Mass nouns like "furniture" or "cutlery", which represent more easily quantified substances, show that the mass/count distinction should be thought of as pertaining to the expressions themselves, rather than to the substances they represent. To see this, consider the fact that the same set of chairs can be referred to both as "seven chairs" and as "furniture". Thus it is the expressions, not the entities or substances they refer to which are mass or count.
    After the work of logicians like Godehard Link and Manfred Krifka, we know that the mass/count distinction can be given a precise, mathematical definition in terms of quantization and cumulativity.
    Examples from English include "cheese", "laughter", "cutlery", "furniture" and "precision".
    Some words function in the singular as a count noun and, without a change in the spelling, as a mass noun in the plural: she caught a fish, we caught fish; he shot a deer, they shot deer; the craft was dilapidated, the pier was chockablock with craft. As society changes from such outdoor activities, the distinction can be lost, as in the word "aircraft" gaining the needless plural "aircrafts."
