Change tracking file

Hello,
When I enable block change tracking, is it any method to maintain this file? Do we delete and recreate it in any way? Or we just let it stay and grow automatically?
Thx for help,
Aliq

Hi,
From the docs,
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup004.htm#sthref424
The file is an Oracle Managed file and hence means that it does'nt require any management for the dba side.
Do we delete and recreate it in any way?
Once disabled, we can overwrite teh file with the Reuse option and use it again if we see its increasing enormously.
Also from teh docs again,
After the restore and recovery, the change tracking file is cleared, and starts recording block changes again. The next incremental backup after any recovery is able to use change-tracking data.
So I guess attempts are made by oracle that file remains in a satisfactory limit.
HTH

  • How to multiplex the block change tracking file?

    Hi,
I have a question to change block tracking feture.
The normal way to enable block change tracking would be:
ALTER DATABASE ENABLE BLOCK CHANGE TRACKING
    USING FILE 'mydir/change_track.f'
    REUSE;
What if my harddrive is gone?
Is there anyway to define more than one destinitaion like for archive log files?

The difference is... archive log files can contain irreplaceable data.
With Block Change Tracking the data is not irreplaceable , just run full RMAN backup and then regen the file. <- IMHO

  • Changing Track File Type

    Hi there,
How would you be able to change a track's file type or download from iTunes as a different file type? If possible, I'm aiming for .wma and/or .mp3 types.
    Thank you.

    Thank you.
Almost all music stores sell their downloads in MP3 format. The only exceptions that I am aware of are 4ad.com and the iTunes Store. If you buy from amazon.com or any of the others you will be getting MP3s and will not have to convert.
If your iTunes library has any files in odd formats that you wish to convert to MP3, you can follow the instructions in this support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550

  • Enable Block Change Tracking in 11gr2

    Hi Team,
If my database file system is in ASM..Can I enable blk change tracking in local filesystem?
Or IS it better to do in ASM? Any new features in 11gr2?
    Regards,
    Manohar

Do you plan running DUPLICATE against that DB?
If yes, you should place the Block Change Tracking File in a location that would enable you to effectively deal with this nasty bug:
"Bug 10193846 - RMAN duplicate fails with ORA-19755 when BCT file is not accessible [ID 10193846.8]"
Also, If you plan to use DUPLICATE, you should “name” your Block Change Tracking File, rather than going with the system name.
This advice applied only for 11gR2 versions that are affected by the bug.

  • Block change tracking and Backup size

    DB Version : 10gRelease
We have a Differential Incremental Backup strategy with Recovery Window retention policy. I haven't enabled BLOCK CHANGE TRACKING. Just would like to know if the backup size of both Level 0 and Level1 backups become smaller by enabling Block Change Tracking. Or is it just Level 1 backups' size which is going to decrease?
    Thank you.

An excerpt from Oracle RMAN 11g Backup and Recovery by Robert G. Freeman & Matthew Hart
    ISBN: 978-0-07-162861-7
    The Block Change Tracking File
By default, when doing an incremental backup, any datafile that has changed in any way will be
backed up. This can make incremental backups take longer and will make them larger. RMAN
offers the ability to just back up changed database blocks. +This can make your incremental+
+database backups much smaller and shorter.+ To enable block change tracking, issue the command
alter database enable block change tracking. The result of this command will be the creation of a
file called the block change tracking file (BCTF).Checkout the word smaller.
    Two things:
    A. This is not Official oracle documentation ( Oracle press though)
    B. This book is about 11g. I don't know if BCTF makes backups smaller in 11G.

  • HT3659 My Soundtrack pro looses the mic on AJAKona.  It will appear as an input only after clicking on New audio file, then ok, Recording alert appears and then I have my AJA KONA3g back as an input option. loose it again if I change track

My Soundtrack pro looses the mic on AJAKona.  It will appear as an input only by clicking on New audio file, then ok,  and an Recording alert comes up.  But if I change track I loose the AJA again. How do I fix this?

Finally found the answer. The recording was done at 48, the audio/MIDI settings were set to 48, but the sampling setting on the export was not, causing everything else to break down. Once all three matched the export worked and the playback audio worked without opening the clip editing screen.

  • Waveburner;  a few Questions regarding track files and Session Data

After a bit of negotiating, I'm almost ready to burn. Was having problems with file locations and discovered that i had multiple files in different locations. Those have been eliminated and all relative track files are in one place now with the Song Data File as well.
I then re-imported the individual aif tracks only to find that all of my fades and edits are GONE. It appears that I may have to DO THEM ALL OVER AGAIN! Please tell me that there is a work around.
Is it possible to import only the Session Data related to the fades and edits(everything but the actual audio files), so as to avoid all this "do-again" work?
I was also wonder if it is necessary, or perhaps a good idea, to change the File INFO for each of the individual audio track files from "OpenWith" iTunes (default setting) to "Open With": WAVEBURNER ?. (selectable on the aiff files, "Show More Info" window
Currently the aif files are set to "OpenWith" iTunes (default)
    One last question please.
Is Waveburner really up to snuff? How many people are using this for Mastering and Burning CD's? I'm about to start inserting some AU Mastering Plug Ins and I'm hoping for the best. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    G5 Dual 2.0/PBook G41.5Ghz/LogicPro7 Live5 Reason3.0 PansncDA7 TascamFW1804   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You're grammer isn't bad jord, it was I who asked a plethora of questions under one Subject heading.
When i open the project file(.wb3),
    The prompt says;
"Please choose a replacement from the list below:"
    /Volumes/320GB HD/Users/ahuihou/.Trash/1 Track 01.aiff
    /Volumes/320GB HD/Users/ahuihou/.Trash/2 Track 02.aiff
    /Volumes/320GB HD/Users/ahuihou/.Trash/3 Track 03.aiff
    /Volumes/320GB HD/Users/ahuihou/.Trash/4 Track 04.aiff
    /Volumes/320GB HD/Users/ahuihou/.Trash/6 Track 06.aiff
As you can see the files are in the trash.
The first problem is that there are no actual files in the trash. Just an icon of a CD Disc which was dragged there to eject it, It is no longer in the disc drive/tray. Perhaps i should put the disc back in the drive and then update/replace the files afterwords. (The CD is scratched.)
The strange thing is that i can still preview the track that's in the trash by selecting More Info and playing it on the little Quicktime player bar. I guess the file is in a cache somewhere?
I've looked everywhere on all drives for the specific files but can not find them anywhere.
In the Replacement prompt there is a place that I can check to "Search in the same folder for subsequent files" button on the "Replacement" prompt.
which "same folder" is it refering to?
The Trash folder where the old files are or the Folder where the actual .wb3 project file is? I do have all of the correctly named song files/regions in the same folder with the project file.
maybe i should just start again. i'm not one to give up easy though and would much prefer to "beat" the computer at the game.

  • Disk Tracker files are no more opened

    Hi,
After installing 10.4.2 in one of our new G5s, we are not able to open our disk tracker files which is created with Disk tracker 2.2.2. But we are able open them in panther. The icons of those files are shown as terminal files (unix). Though I changed the option "open with" to disk tracker application, none of them are shown in disk tracker. Can any one solve this?. Since we have thousands of disk tracker files which are used for searching our old files, we badly need to solve this.
    Thanks a lot in advance
    Zac.
    G5 2.3 GHZ Dual, 1 GB Ram, 250 GB SATA Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Matthew & Hyphen,
I did contact Portents and they told me to try with Disk Tracker 2.3.2 but still no luck. The icons of the old disktracker files are still shown as terminal files in the 10.4.2 OS.I can read them all in panther with Disk tracker 2.2.2. So I guess the 10.4.2 is the culrpit not the disk tracker.
I do not get any error message as such, rather the files are not opened.
    Thanks
    Zac

    - it's all said in the title. I can't understand why the developers turn things bad ... risking loosing Apples valuable customers.
More examples needed? (check out the communities and the reviews)
    - OSX: Maverick to Yosemite = not recommended (check it out > http://roaringapps.com/apps)
    - iPad: older versions as iPad2 should not upgrade to iOS7/8 (it's not supporting its hardware accordingly, it's designed for the latest hardware)
    - iTunes (it's possible to rollback to 10.7 - 11.4, but you need to breech OSX system security framework)
    - Pages (was a real alternative for many of us, each update reduced features and created incompatibility to older work files)
The list could easily extend to ...

  • Block change tracking

    Hello,
I have a Oracle 10.1.0.5.0 on Windows 2003. My need to enable block change tracking. So I login SQL PLUS as sysdba:
SQL> ALTER DATABASE ENABLE BLOCK CHANGE TRACKING USING FILE
    'HOME/DB_INSTANCE/BLOCK_CHANGE.TRC';
    ALTER DATABASE ENABLE
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Block Change Tracking.
I have read some documentations and this is command I should use. Please help me where I can enable this feature.
    Many thanks!

According to the metalink note 271197.1, the fast incremental feature is not included in the Standard Edition.
As suggested earlier, check the Edition you are working on.
