Change visible layers in placed PDF

I need to programmatically change the visibility of layers in a placed PDF. Do I use kChangeVisibleLayersCmdBoss? Please show an example. I can get the "eyeball" to toggle in the "Object Layer Options" dialog box, but the view does not reflect the change.

I'm not sure if this setting exists in version 8, but check to see if Allow Layer State To Be Set By User Information is selected in the Documents Preferences. If it is not selected, Layer Properties dialog box settings, other than Layer Name and Default State, are ignored.

  • How to save the state of the changed visible layers in pdf, pre-designed in Indesign

    Hi,
    I have made an Indesign (CS 5.5) file with some textfields (no button), and interactive buttons. And saved it as Interactive PDF.
    I have made a fillable form out of the textfields in Adobe Acrobat Pro X, and the interactive buttons are working in PDF.
    When you open the PDF in Acrobat Reader or Pro, fill in text and change a state of the button and save the file: all the changes (text and state) are saved.
    When you open the PDF in Acrobat Reader or Pro, fill in text and save the file: the changes (text) are saved.
    When you open the PDF in Acrobat Reader or Pro, and only change a state of the button and save the file: the changes are NOT saved.
    What I mean with states of a button: SHOW/HIDE or ON/OFF etc.
    Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong. Or is it not possible to only save changes in states of a button?
    Thanks in advance for thinking with me.
    Josiane

    You would have to check your color management and things like overprint settings or the ink levels of the color components. Streaking is usually a sign of areas getting oversaturated and the automatic adjustments in the printer driver being unable to compensate. and then of course other factors may figure in like banding inherent in using gradients across large areas, out of gamut issues for certain colors and what have you. You'd have to be much more specific about all of that for anyone to even begin to advise specifically...

  • Placed PDF with Layers - can layers be maintained and exported in a new PDF?

    Can a layered PDF placed in InDesign include these layers in the InDesign Layers Panel? I have a layered PDF created in Illustrator CS4. I'm placing it in InDesign CS4 6.0.4 and want to export a PDF with the layers in tact from Illy. I use the Show Import Options dialog box and can see all of the layers in the layers tab. I tried both options for update links so that choice seems unimportant. I only see one layer, Layer 1, in the InDesign layers panel after placing the PDF. I was expecting to see all of the layers from the placed PDF. I exported as Acrobat 6 with Create Acrobat Layers checked but the only layer in the exported PDF is Layer 1. I searched and read for quite some time and can’t figure it out. Maybe I’m expecting something that isn’t possible but it sounds like it should be. I tried placing it as a native AI file with the same results. Where am I going wrong?
    Thanks,
    Glenn

    Thanks to Bob and Peter. I understand what you said. It seems as though the ability to place a file with layers should allow you to take advantage of it better. This is a map that will allow users to turn on or off various points of interest, hotels, etc. Now I realize I can at least control them from the place dialog box so, other than having to place the same map multiple times I end up with what I wanted. Thanks for the soultions.

  • Layers in my PDF which are switched to visible are not showing - how do I solve this?

    I am creating MXD files in Arc GIS, and then exporting them to Adobe Professional 8. I am merging layers within Adobe Pro, and then switching the initial view so that only 4 out of the ~10 layers are visible when the PDF is first opened. However, on opening the PDF, layers which are set to be visible (the eye symbol is appearing next to them) are not visible. This is only happening for some layers, in some of the PDFs. Also, as I switch on more layers in the PDF then the layer which should have been visible but was not does eventually appear. I would be very grateful for any suggestions on why this is happening / how to solve it. Thanks.

    I'm not sure if this setting exists in version 8, but check to see if Allow Layer State To Be Set By User Information is selected in the Documents Preferences. If it is not selected, Layer Properties dialog box settings, other than Layer Name and Default State, are ignored.

  • Change the page in a placed PDF?

    Is there an easy way to change the page in a placed PDF? Something along the lines of Object Layer Options?
    Thanks.

    We can fix this with scripting! Easy oneline script [Edit: break it two 2 lines so you don't get a scrollbar in the forum]:
    var g; (g=app.selection[0].graphics[0]).
        place(g.itemLink.filePath, true);
    save as replace.jsx and assign it a key in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts (Scripts Area).
    It assumes a frame (rectangle) is currently selected, and re-places the file associated with it, while showing the options dialog box (2nd argument to place()).

  • Help!  Pdf losing all non-visible layers

    Pdf losing all non-visible layers when saving for first time in Illustrator 2014 (Creative Cloud). The next time I try to open the document it was flat and the only remaining information was (from the visible layers) was locked into a clipping mask. It is like the document was overwrited with a print(flat) pdf. The document also suddenly became 11 pages long (with 10 empty pages).
    Anyone knows how/if I can get the information back?

    But the editing capabilities box was checked so that probebly wasn't the thing.
    Yes I have definitly learned that by now...

  • MULTIPLE place image import...& "save as.." multiple layers to multipage PDF

    Hello,
    just some suggestions I`d like to see to speed up my set up and output..
    i`d like to import multiple placed images into illustrator CS4. So open dialogue box place, and multiple select images for placing.
    regards output save as...
    Can we output multiple layers  into a single PDF in illustrator?  Or multiple layers into single JPEGS  from illustrator with one command instead of individually saving out  each layer... would be a huge time saver for me.I create different artworks on different layers..
    Currently  I output each completed layer individually and then right click those  outputted jpegs in their output folder and choose "combine supported  files into acrobat..." to make a single acrobat file..i`d like to do this right in the illustrator "save for PDF" dialogue box. Adding  something in the Save for PDF output dialogue box to save layers to one PDF as multiple pages would be a helpful time saver..
    I`d  also like to be able to CTRL click multiple layers and go " save as..."  only those layers get saved out...

    , bridge -FILE/PLACE into ai, goes to separate layers in AI as placed.
    in PS, bridge/tools/ps/load files into ps layers.. CS4.
    just using right click in explorer on individual PDF docs from layers saved from PS to combine to PDF. but cannot output multiple pds from layers in AI in CS4.

  • Update placed PDF files to recognize transparency

    I have used Croptima InPlate to create an imposed cut and stack imposition of a large 3800 variable data project. Due to the size of the file, I've only imposed the black plate variable data. I want to use Acrobat's add background tool to add an imposed master graphic of the rest of the file image (the black-only variable text will overlay the other elements).
    Croptima has done a great job with the imposition, however it has placed all the files in the layout with a white backround (not transparent as is resident in the source PDF file. When I try to add the main background in Acrobat the white boxes from the PDF mask out the background image. I can manually remove the boxes in Acrobat one at a time, but doing this across a 6-up, 640 page document makes for quite the undertaking.
    My question is if there's a way in InDesign to update all placed PDF files to display with a transparent background instead of the opaque background.
    The relink feature with import option won't do it document wide, it wants to individually prompt for every graphic and won't retain the page assignments.
    I found a script on the forum which will update each link to a transparent background individually, but I have to manually enter in each page number of the imposed PDF ... also a huge time suck.
    Does anyone know of a way to change the placement properties document-wide of a single, multi-page placed PDF to a transparent background instead of opaque?
    Or... does anyone know how to get Croptima InPlate to place PDF files with a transparent option?
    Thanks in advance.

    I had to chime in:
    First to help out if BLUDVLZ24 would like to test drive Quite Imposing Plus.
    Here is a temporary number so you can test drive it yourself. Just go yo our site www.quite.com and download QIP and use the following Serial number and private code.
    Quite Imposing Plus V1/V2
      Expires end 3/2010  Serial 0783-6227-0032-4682  Code 6826
    Second to help out Mr. Met:
    If you have any trouble understanding Quite Imposing Plus you should have emailed us at [email protected] we would have been happy to help.
    Also, there is a Getting Started tech sheet within the program (instead of reading the entire manual - which may have caused your dislike of QIP)
    Once loaded, please Check out Getting Started tech sheet. Go to our Imposition Control Panel and click on the ? button.....
    then click the Getting Started button.Also, lots of good information on signature setups Step-by-step Instructions and New features.
    Also, take a look at www.quite.com/imposing/techsheet too-it has some other tech step by step sheets - note: cut-stacks tech sheet is there for you to look at.

  • Need to hide running heads in placed PDF

    I’m trying to reformat the PDF of a book for a client that was set up the wrong size to print. If I could remove the running heads from each page then I could get the PDF into a new ID document that’s set up to the proper trim size. I tried cropping the pages in the PDF, but that just hides the part that’s cropped out. The full page shows up when placed in ID. So then I pulled down the top of each frame in ID so that the running heads were no longer visible. I exported this to PDF and it looks good. I know the running heads are still there, just not visible. I’m concerned that they might show up when the book is printed. Can I assume that if something is hidden on the PDF page it won’t print?

    That script probably honors the last used choice for a placed pdf so placing once, enabling Show Options, and selecting trim or crop would be honored by the script.

  • Change stacking order of placed images/objects?

    Hello All,
    Is it possible to change the order of placed images in a PDF?
    I have a PDF with several objects in it, I want to be able to place an image into the PDF, and have it appear behind some of the objects and in front of others... is this possible?
    Example, let's say I have a PDF with a cartoon/comic word or thought bubble in it... I want to be able to place an image of my friend behind the word bubble object.
    I have Acrobat 9.0 Pro
    Thanks!

    As far as AS3 goes, I don't know what you mean, but it can be used pretty much the same way you use AS2, with the exception that in AS3 you cannot place code "on" object like you can in AS1/AS2... all code must be on the timeline.  Beyond that, there is no difference beyond alot of the code being different between the two languages.  The timeline remains as a place to build things in if you choose to.
    As far as your question goes, yes, you can have a rollover of a movieclip assign text to a textfield within it.  Let's say you're using AS2 and you have a movieclip named "button1" that contains a textfield named "tf1".  Code for that could be...
    button1.onRollOver = function(){
         button1.tf1.text = question1;
    And if you wanted to make tit so that clicking that same button shows the answer....
    button1.onRelease = function(){
         button1.tf1.text = answer1;

  • Script - Export Layers to Individual PDF's?

    Is there a script to export each InDesign layer to its own PDF? I posted about this in the general InDesign forum, and was referred here. Someone found a Mac version, but I need something for Windows XP, CS3. Thank you!

    Hi,
    telling a story:
    hide all layers, start loop in all of them, show one by one, export doc
    writing a script:
    myDoc = app.documents[0];
    myFolder = myDoc.filePath + "/";                              // assuming doc isn't untitled
    myDoc.layers.everyItem().visible = false;
    for (k=0; k<myDoc.layers.length; k++) {
         file = new File(myFolder + myDoc.name + "_" + myDoc.layers[k].name + ",pdf");
         myDoc.layers[k].visible = true;
         doc.exportFile(ExportFormat.pdfType, file, false, app.pdfExportPresets[0]);         // choose preset id
         myDoc.layers[k].visible = false;
    myDoc.layers.everyItem().visible = true;
    pdfs should be in doc folder,
    hope...

  • Rotating placed .pdf

    Hello,
    I'm running abobe CS4 Illustrator on my pc and am having difficulty rotating a pdf file that I placed onto the artboard in it's own layer.
    When I rotate the image using either my mouse or the transform/rotate dialog box when I rotate past a certain degree the .pdf grows.... The extent box on the short end of the image is resized so that it is off the screen. When I grab the image again to rotate it, the axis of rotation has changed to the center of the now much larger box( which is primarily empty space). In addition when resizing the image it takes into account the newly added area which significantly skews the results of any resize.
    Has anyone here experienced this problem? what is the cause, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks,
    Andres

    Hi Wade,
    I'm attaching two screen grabs, one that shows the placed PDF immediately before the extent growth and one after.

  • Problems with placing pdfs in CS4

    I recently upgraded to CS4. I am having a problem when I place a pdf into indesign CS4. When I place the pdf the size of the pdf is changing. For example I am trying to place a pdf that is 3.5 in by 4.75 in. When I place it in CS3 it keeps it that same size. When I place it into CS4 it changes the size to 4.515 in by 6.125 in. I looked at preferences and import options. I've searched for it and I can't figure out how to fix this.

    No problems like that here on CS4.
    Are you placing into an existing frame or onto a blank page (creating a new frame for the placed PDF)?
    If this is going into an existing frame, check the settings on the frame to see if that is causing the unexpected scaling.
    -mt
    PS:  from the numbers supplied, it sounds like the content of the existing frame is set to 129% instead of 100%.  That could be casued by the fitting settings mentioned by below.
