Change Volume size after partition

I just formatted a drive and partitioned it. I haven't add any data on both of them and I changed my mind about the size of them.
Is it ok to change their sizes in disk utility? or would be better to format them again and repartition?
thanks in adavance

You can repartition the drive. Since there's nothing on the drive repartitioning won't cause any loss of data.

  • Changing Volume Size

I partitioned a disk a while back into two volumes. Now I'd like to change the volume size and it will be sort of a pain (though not completely impossible) to erase (temporarily move) the stuff on the disk. Is there a snappy utility where I can do this? I'm just reading help in the Disk Utility and it talks about combining two volumes if i don't mind erasing the stuff on the second volume, but I can't even seem to invoke that option ('partition' seems not to be a choice as help suggests).
Anyway, the second volume has a great deal of empty space and i'd love to balance it more OR just get rid of the second partition and I am hoping not to have to shuffle 100's of Gig of stuff here and there.
    Please advise.
    Thanks!

you have to select the whole drive (model, not name) to get the partition tab.

  • HOW TO: Change page size after page is created?

Is there a way to change the size of a page after the page has been created? In the documentation, the only way I have seen to set the page size is in a "with" statement right after creating the document. I have need to change the size of the document after a document has already been created. Any ideas?

Yep, that's how I am doing it. I just wanted to make sure that I was doing it correctly. I need to keep debugging then and figure out what the real problem is. I am new to all of this (obviously) and I just needed to make sure I had the idea correct. I didn't mean to use document and page interchangeably, I understand that you can't have different size pages in the same document.
    Thank you for your help.
[FYI]I created a class that creates a document with most of the document settings that I use (e.g. a standard number of pages, non-facing pages, units in inches, etc.) but I don't specify a page size, that's something that varies between documents, so I figured I could just apply that after I have created the page. The problem is, when I try to create multiple documents it doesn't work. The script will create the first document using the default page size settings and I can't get it to change the page size, but then the next document will be created using the page size I tried to apply from the previous document that the script created. I am sure this is totally a coding error somewhere else. I will try to track it down. Just when I think I have this stuff figured out . . .

  • Change project size after recording

Is it possible to change the project screen size after it has already been recorded? I have a presentation that was recorded at 670 px tall and would really like to shrink it back down to 800 X 600 so it can fit in a browser window without scrolling.
    Thanks,
    Whitney

    Hi there
    Try clicking Project > Rescale.
Note that this will likely affect the overall quality of the project. I'd start by clicking File > Save As to preserve a pristine copy of the original.

  • Aperture changing pixel size after using Retouch/Repair/Clone tool?

I apologize if this is a stupid question - I'm new to using Aperture and have a rudimentary knowledge (at best) about the mechanics of Aperture.
I use the retouch tool on a portion of my photo, and the pixel size is reduced.  I want to maintain the original 12.0megapixels. How do I work with the photo without changing the pixel size - or, how can I restore the orginal pixel size after editing the photo?
I've also cropped the photo, constraining the aspect ratio at 4:5.
Here is the file info before I start working with it:
And after using the retouch, this happens:

    Frank Caggiano wrote:
Again this is not normal Aperture behavior, this doesn;t occur on my system. If you could post the screen shot of the adjustments it might help.
Sure - Here is a sample image. It is not a RAW file. It appears to be happening in every image in the library. I made a new library and it appears to be happening in the same pattern. I'm in Aperture, opened a photo which was imported directly into Aperture from camera.
Now, I'm going to crop to 4:5 ratio - from what I'm hearing, crop should not effect the 12.0 mp?
Notice how the MP is now 10.6?
    Now, I'll apply auto enhance:
In this case, it looks like cropping does effect the pixel size. It's a different image from what I was using before.
Now, I use the retouch tool:
The MPs are now 9.7 - it keeps getting smaller and smaller!
When you crop, is it normal for the MPs to reduce?
Thanks so much for your help, I'm so frustrated.

  • Can I change book size after its designed?

I just spent hours getting my book just the way I want it but now realize I'd rather buy the larger size book than the smaller one I selected at the start of the project. Can I change the book size now before I purchase?

yes - you can change size or theme
duplicate the project before you make changes as a backup
Then just change the size (go to themes, ignore the warning and select the new size) - your text may have to be adjusted although going larger probably is ok

  • Is it possible to change /u01 size after installation?

Hi, i have installed oracle linux and by mistake i kept /u01 size as 2GB. Which should have been 8-10 GB.
Now can i change it? Please advise.
You help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

It is possible but depends on the underlying hardware design and OS features used. Terms like physical disk, partition, virtual disk, logical volume management come into play, which require more more information to be able to answer your question.

  • Changing the size of partitions on external drive without losing data

Can this be done using Leopard ? I wanted to increase the size of the parttion for my MacBook Pro and reduce it for my daughter's MacBook partition on the external back up drive.

I am sure someone will have a bright idea, but you will lose data using Disk Utility:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306496
I think that the second volume is the one that has to be erased (the first one is expanding into its space). You can't increase the last partition.

  • Cannot change dock size after Yosemite upgrade

Ever since upgrading to Yosemite, my dock is large and seemingly fixed in size at the bottom of my screen.  I used to be able to enter System Preferences and change the dock size with the slider.  When I do the same thing now, the slider moves but the dock remains frozen at the same large size.  The dock seems to function perfectly well in every other way.  Help??

    Hi rde45,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature or scope of the issue you are describing. If you make changes to other settings in the Dock preferences, such as hiding, magnification, position, etc, do these changes take effect, or are they similar to the dock size setting?

  • Change book size after design?

Is there any way to do this?  I've created a book in Extra Large, then looked at the price and though, "maybe a smaller size would be OK, and cheaper." But I can't seem to find a way to change the book size.  Is this not possible?  Do I have to redo the book again?
    thanks for any help

Create a copy of your book (select the book (not the images in it) in the library inspector panel, then go to "File >Duplicate Book".
Open the copy of the book and click the "Theme Button" in the upper left corner of the Book panel and pick a different theme. Select a different size.
Changing the Book size may modify some text fields. That is why I recommend to try this with a copy of the book.

  • How to change volume size on apple server.

I have 5 different "HD" icons (they're partitioned aren't they?) on the server of which one is obviously the Home HD. I'd like to delete one "HD", increase the size of two existing "HDs" and decrease the size of the last "HD".
I am accessing the Mac OSX Server 10.3.9 via ARD on my computer. There are 7 computers connected to this server.
    Can anyone help?
The guy who set it up has left 12 months ago, so I've unwittingly become the server sdministrator, and only so far I've been able to back up data from those "HDs". Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You really need to go into much greater detail, and posting in the server forum may not be a bad idea either.
But to address your question - the available space on a server share is determined by the available space on the server. You can't do anything about it from a client that is simply connecting to a servcer share. A server may have a single HD with several shares, or it could have multiple HD;'s with different shares. The amount of space available is determined by the amount of space on the server's HD's. Of course, there are ways to limit the amount of data a user can store on a server, which would be reflected in the amount of available space, but like I said, you need to provide more details and post in the server forum for more detailed answers.

  • Change font size after installing OS X

After installing Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.3 all my fonts (top row, Apple menu, Safari, iCal, iTunes, et al. et al.) are very small font (10 point at best).  I have manually increased font in Address Book and Mail, but cannot find the solution for others.  Appearance, in System Preferences, (the logical place for this) has no option.

I have a MBP mid 2010, and after installing Maverics, the following apps will not launch, as in "not responding" when i try to launch them.
    Maps
    Photo Booth
    Apple Script Editor
Color Sync Utility (did launch but after pressing the "Profiles" button, it crashed)
    Grapher
Also struggling with streaming sites like Netflix, extremely slow launch the video (No network issues, tried on different network).
The problem isnt percistant, occasionally the programs will launch and work.
I have tried re-installing OSX. I sent the machine to apple service, where they told me my hdd was defective. So i bought a new SSD harddrive and installed Mavericks and i still have the same problem.
Does it sound like a hardware or a software problem?

  • Change Parition Size in Leopard?

I've heard Leopard has the ability to create and change the size of partitions on the fly. Does this also apply to your Boot Camp partition? And if not, how would I go about taking my Boot Camp partition, creating a new Parallels-only partition and restoring the BC one to that, since Parallels can easily resize partitions on the fly.

    Hi,
    for clearance:
You want to move your BootCamp Windows to Parallels and then remove the BootCamp Windows ?
Or just use the BootCamp Windows as a Virtual Machine in Parallels and keep the BootCamp Windows partition ?
If first, have a look at Parallels Transporter feature, might do the trick.
If second, Parallels can do this right now.
Be aware that at the moment Parallels seems to have problems with Leopard.
So might be better to do it now or wait until Parallels has solved this issue.

  • Change partition sizes after windows has been installed

After I have installed windows onto my mac and have created the partitions, can and how do I change the size (in terms of memory) of the partitions without reinstalling all information?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
you can use WinClone for this http://www.twocanoes.com/winclone/ and in here http://www.twocanoes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=515 you find a how-to.
(Topic: My current Windows partition is the wrong size, and I want to make it larger. How do I do this?)
Other people have used CampTune http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/ successfully.
Prior to doing this you should make/have a backup of your OSX and Windows files for safety.

  • Disk utility does not allow to restore Macintosh HD after I deleted a small size (1GB) partition

Hi, when I tried to create a new 1GB partition (on my Mac mini 2011, using Mac OS X 10.7.3) and then to delete it I could not restore (increase) Macintosh HD size using Disk utility (diskutil list shows the same value for Macitosh HD (498,17GB) partition before and after I deleted a new created 1GB partition).
Please help, how I can restore the original size of Macintosh HD when Disk utility does not allow to restore Macintosh HD after I deleted a small size (1GB) partition?
    Thank you.

The bottom right corner dragging does not help in my case, because it shows that Macintosh HD partition size is maximal, but its real size did not change after I removed 1GB partition.
Maybe any other idea can help me, for example some built-in tool like diskutil which allows to view and manage unused partitions in terminal?
    Thank you.
