thanks for helping. the songs are not deleted, but the albums were. i had maybe 30 albums containing almost 1,000 songs.
Check your iTunes music folders in finder. Songs are
very rarely deleted unless you specifically do so.
Try typing the names of certain songs into finder.
Hope it works,

  • Changing artists names in iTunes is very slow (1 minute per song) in compilation albums

Changing artists names in iTunes is very slow (1 minute per song) in compilation albums. I am using iTunes 10.6.1 Mac OS X 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro with 4GB RAM 2.66 GHz Intel processor and my itunes library is 340GB. My new music is on the computer's hardrive (about 16GB) and the rest is in an external HD.
It used to work great until I switched to the new version of iTunes (10.6.1) and now changing the artist field is very very very slow (1 minute per song in compilaton albums)
What happened? Can someone help me?

Thank you both!!!!!!  Especially you, Limnos for adding onto the terrific answer from leonieDF.  Yeah, I'm seldom willing to let the software do the driving all by itself.  <heh>  However, to date I've been too lazy to work with what is currently there - and needing to know how to customize the software was my first step.
I'm finally going to reduce the enormous physical size of my cd collection - organizing and storing the jewel cases is too great a nightmare not to mention that it has turned my livingroom into nothing more than a visually overwhelming variety of storage devices--spinners being my favorite, but now mostly unavailable outside of yard sales.  Favorite disks I WILL keep to play in the car (no, my player is too old to have a USB port).
I'm getting a 2T external drive to hold the accumulation - but before that, I wanted to find out HOW to organize things so that I can find them myself - old school.  My ITunes libraries go back many years, but I now want a good cohesive way to save the way that I want - not the way that is set up for me.
Thank you both again very, very much!!

  • How do i change artist name in the iphone?

So I downloaded a CD I got for christmas onto itunes and I changed the artists name on the album and when I put it on my iphone it didnt transfer and now it says unknown artist when I already have another album by the same person on my iphone. Please Help?

Sounds like you didn't complete all of the needed tags in iTunes. Delete it from the phone, go back to itunes on your computer and make sure the Album artist is completed. Then resync.

  • I have three different listings for Bob Seger on my iPod (bob Seger, Bob Seger System and Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band) How can I put all 3 in the same artist folder without changing artist name?

I have three different listings for Bob Seger on my iPod (Bob Seger, Bob Seger System and Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band) How can I put all 3 in the same artist folder without changing artist name?

Can you just create a new "Playlist", name it Bob Seger and drag what you want into the Playlist.

  • Is it  possible to change the name of a photo in one album without changing the name in other albums?

I use the photos in events to create more than one album and I want to use a unique name in each album. When I change the name in one album, all instances of the photo also change.

Correct. Albums just reference the photos in an Event - it's why a pic can be in 50 albums and use no extra disk space. So, change one and you change all. The alternative is to duplicate the pic in the Event.

  • I can't change the names of my albums in Itunes

I recently bought a new computer and went through a very cumbersome process to move my Itunes library to the new computer. Can't even describe all the steps. Now my music is on the new computer and when i go into "get info" so that i can change the name of the album, I am locked out. The title is in gray and i get a message that software can't find my original.
If it matters, almost all of my albums were loaded from CDs and not purchase.
Can anyone help me learn how to change the names?
    Thanks

    OK I am puzzled.
If iTunes can't find a file it is shown with an exclamation mark next to the track.
If iTunes can't write to a track, either because it is read only or because of a permission problem, it is greyed out.
Your seem to have a peculiar combination - no exclamation marks but iTunes claims not to be able to find the track, if I understand your original post correctly.
May be we can cut through this by creating an new library. This will loose all counts rating and play lists, but you can put things back if you want after the experiment.
With iTunes closed, drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml to your desktop.
Open itunes and an empty library is created. Use File>>Add folder to Library to add your iTunes Music folder. Can you edit tracks now?
(To put things back, with iTunes closed simply delete the newly created itl and xml files and drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml back into your iTunes folder from your desktop)

  • Changing song names and adding album artwork

Some of the songs that i imported into itunes by some artists, lets say for example "Less Than Jake" shows up as "less than jake" (uncapitalized) when i go to change the first letter which is an "l" to a capital "L" i successfully change the name in itunes and then when i am done changing ti and click on another song it just goes back to lower case
does anyone know how to fix that so that the names that i fix stay fixed not just go back
Another question that i have is some of my artists albums do not have album artwork and when i right click on the album and say get album artwork nothing happens. And i already registered with itunes store so its not that it wont get the album artwork because i didn't register with itunes. Is there anyway to copy the album picture from the internet and get it associated with that specific album in itunes anyway?
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
    THANKS IN ADVANCE
    GREG
      Windows XP Pro

    Greg,
Are you just typing over the name as it appears in your iTunes library?
I am not familiar with the Windows version, but in the Mac version, the best way to edit song title/artist/genre, etc is to select a song and then "Get Info" - in the Mac version that is under the "File" menu - a right click will probably work for you. There are several tabs on the Get Info screen - go to the "Info" tab and you will see what to do.
As for album artwork, iTunes has been pretty good about finding artwork for for those albums which I purchased from the iTunes store, but was no help at all in finding art for the (many) albums I ripped from my CDs.
You COULD find the album art yourself, using Google 'Images' but I think you will find it to be too tedious, and most of the album cover JPEGs you will find by that method are too small and of poor quality.
It would be better to use a third party application. For Mac users I can recommend Fetch Art (http://members.cox.net/afriesen3//fetchart/index.html); I expect there is something similar for Windows, but I can't be specific.

  • Can't change artist name in iTunes 11

I can't edit the artist names in iTunes 11. I'll select a group of songs and then click "get info" and change the information, and the changes show in iTunes when I'm under "song" but when I sync my ipod or when I'm under the "artist" tab, they are still listed as diffrent artists.
    Example:
I have Hillsong, Hillsong Live, and Hillsong United songs. I don't want them all the be under diffrent artists, I want them all to be Hillsong. So I select the songs, get info, change the name...and yet still, when I sync, I have Hillsong, Hillsong Live, and Hillsong United.
I hope this was clear, thank you!

Ah... another brilliant "feature" of iTunes 11!  There are too many stupidities in this new version to even attempt to itemize here, but this one is truly amazing.  I ran into this problem after buying some classical music from the iTunes Store.  The tracks had the composer's name in the "artist" field and nothing in the "composer" field.  Changing the contents of "artist" seems to work, as icsbicr noted, but then if you play the track, or do Cmd-I, or various other things, the artist changes back to the original (and, in this case, incorrect) content.  If someone at Apple thinks we ought not to be allowed to change "artist" for purchased content, then at least they ought to prevent us from doing it right away instead of seeming to change it and then later changing it back.
So here's how to fix it.  You don't want to mess with Mickey Mouse circumventions like "various artists" and "part of a compilation" (as suggested in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4607365?start=0&tstart=0), because those tags are INCORRECT.  If you want the information to be correct, you've got to change the tags in the music file itself.  I realize this is a huge pain, but Apple doesn't seem to care too much about causing their customers big pains.  I used a product called Fission from Rogue Amoeba, though there are probably plenty of other products which will do the same thing.
You need to be careful so you don't get the iTunes data base out of sync with the file system structure.  What I did was copy (not move) the files from the iTunes folders (use "Show in Finder" from the context menu if you're not sure where they are) to another folder somewhere and then deleted them from iTunes.  Then I used Fission to edit the tags in the file to show the correct information and saved the files to another folder (keeping the original files as they were, just in case of trouble).  Then I added the files with the edited tags to iTunes.  The only small problem I can see is that the tracks no longer show up in the "Purchased" list, but I can live with that.
    Good luck.

  • Changed home name lost all data

Has anyone experienced this? I changed my home name (has first and last name, took out last), was on the internet, and then lost everything. Any programs I opened wanted me to register. I restarted, and now everything is gone, but it is in the original home name (first and last). I'm a college student and in a huge panic as all of my essays are on my computer, and not backed up. Not to mention my photos and other things...
What can I do to bring everything back?
    Please help!!!

Open the Users folder in the Finder and rename the item with the house icon to tempfolder, and then rename the folder with your files to the former name of the folder with the house icon. Log out and back in to restore your data.
To change the name of your home folder successfully, you need to update the home property for your user account in the NetInfo Manager, which is located in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, or create a symbolic link which tells Mac OS X where to find your home folder, or use this tool to change your account's short name.

  • Changed account name--lost songs in itunes

I changed the name on my account, and all my music files from i-tunes went with the other account. I was wondering if i plugged in my i-pod into my mac now, if that it will delete everything from my i-pod and just have the songs that are in my i-tunes now, or if it would just add the new songs?
Please some one help with this

I'm a PC user, but it sounds like your new account will have come with a set of empty user folders:- desktop, documents, music library, etc. Unless you deliberately wiped the old account, and all the files associated with it, your old iTunes library should still be on your computer somewhere. You should be able to track it down and move it to the equivalent location for your current account. When you start up iTunes your old libray should then appear. The alternative is start your new/current version of iTunes and re-import all the tracks from wherever they are hiding just now. If your old workspace is trashed and you can't recover the tracks from it then you'll want to look at something like Zevoneer's post in this thread.

  • Audition CS6 Changing Artist Names on Burned CD's

I am using Auditon CD6. I am importing mutliple songs from mutliple artists. I then match the volumes of the songs. Then I drag the songs into the CD list and arrange them. After burning the CD when I put the CD into a CD player it moves the artist names up one song. So in other words the first song has the artist from the second song listed wth it. The second song has the third artist listed with it. And so on. This has occured several times on different CD's and different artists during different sessions.Any ideas?

Sorry, risto. I should have been more precise. Though I did goof by including Windows in my note above. In plain ol' DOS, that list of characters is true, along with a couple I missed. But the Windows Joliet file system allows more of the old characters. Here's a now complete and proper list.
These are all characters reserved by the system in DOS.
    ? [ ] / \ = + : ; " , * |
In the Windows Joliet file system, these characters are not allowed.
    ? / \ : " * |
So the disk that dropped the commas must have been burned by straight DOS rules. Whereas the disk burned from Linux used Joliet rules.

  • Changed server name, lost all local folders

    Greetings,
Recently my hosting company migrated me to a new server. Thing is, not only is a new server, but also new name. This AM I figured I had to finally address the issue so I made what I've come to learn is a mistake - I went into Tools -> Account Settings and changed the name of the server from "A" to "B". Oops. The account is an IMAP account, and has been for years.
This probably wouldn't be a big deal, but at the same time, something very odd happened - all of my LOCAL folders disappeared. So figured ok, something screwy happened I'll just go find the files. Not that easy...
    - If I search my hard drive for the name of a folder that was in the local folders, the search turns up empty. The folders appear to just be gone. Checked recycling bin, nothing there.
    - I went into Thunderbird to see where local folders are kept. Easy enough: D:\xxxxx\Mail\Local Folders. Went looking there. Mostly empty. What IS there has 0kB. Considering I have (well... had?) about 15-20 years of email stored, this isn't likely.
    - I even scanned the drives with both Recuva and VirtualLabs Data Recovery. Both turned up nothing for the missing folders.
I tried looking through the support sites, and tried a few of the "obvious" solutions:
    - View has both "messages" and "threads" set to "all".
    - I've restored a pref.js file from a few days ago
So I'm stumped. Am I missing somewhere that I should be looking? Am I missing a solution?
    Version of Thunderbird is 31.6.0.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi Matt,
Thanks for the quick response. I agree that it would seem like two different issues, but... coincidence?
The server migration in question was supposed to be seamless. I believe the servers were mirrored for a time, and then the original server was shut down. This is supported by the fact that my mailboxes on the "B" server were all in tact, including the entire IMAP folder tree (about 20-30 sub folders within the inbox). Those folder did not disappear with the migration/server name change.
As for the "local folders"... I was/am very certain they were indeed local, but I tried to find some evidence. I was intermittently using Mailstore Home to run mail backups, and looking in there, I see all the missing folders, and they are indeed "local folders". Not IMAP subfolders.
    Thanks again!

  • Changed Account Name, Lost Everything

Hi, I recently changed the name of my only account. It made a new account and placed all the files into the back of the hard drive from my old account. How do I restore my old account? Also will all the programs that I bought still work? Will it also be possible to change the name of the User and the Short Name without completely removing my account?

Are you talking about your Home Folder?

  • Example: change artist name in itunes but doesn't change it on ipod touch 4g ios 5.0.1

    Hello, (sorry for bad english)
So yesterday I updated itunes to 10.5 and updated my ipod touch 4g to ios 5.0.1.
I restored my ipod so everything was lost. Now I put al my music back on but there is a problem.
If for example change eminem to Eminem it changes the id3 tag. (example I select 10 songs with the names eminem Eminem e&m I change them all to Eminem)
It works on itunes and I have a playlist with only Eminem.
But on my ipod there are still the names of eminem Eminem e&m so why is that?
    1. I synced my ipod
    2. I didn't made the changes in libary but onder the ipod in the playlist (so really on the ipod, so you guys don't say you may made the changes in itunes libary. No I really made the changes on my ipod)
    3. I restarted my ipod several times but it didn't help
    ipod touch 4g IOS5.0.1 / windows 7 64bit
Could someone help me? because it's annoying that in itunes it looks like artist : Eminem and on my ipod all those wierd names.
I found a topic with the same problem but there was no sollution: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3409894?start=0&tstart=0
    Thank you,
    David

I have a completely untested & unconfirmed hypothesis that "something" changed in the last iOS update with the way iTunes keeps track of which items are on the device. My guess is that it has something to do with being able to identify the same item whether on the device, in your library or in the cloud. Whatever the cause I found I needed to manually delete a bunch of albums on my iPad that were showing as dupes or without artwork and which didn't get resolved by syncing. Since I deleted them and resynced it has all been fine.  Remove any problem content from the device and resync.
In the list type views swipe from right to left over the right hand side of an item (but keep away from the alphabet if it is showing down at the edge of the window). A red delete button should appear, tap to remove the item. In grid mode on an iPad holding your finger down on an item for about a second will produce a black & white cross at the top left, touch this to delete.
If that still doesn't work, backup the device and then restore it.

  • How do we change the name of an album we are selling on iTunes ?

This may not be the right forum, but perhaps someone can point us in the right direction.
We submitted a new CD through CDBaby to be distributed though iTunes. We were very excited to see it pop up when we searched for it. However, though the cover art and track names are correct, somehow, it has the incorrect title. To make it more confusing for our fans, the incorrect title is already the title of another CD we have up on iTunes. So now two of the CDs we have for sale have the same name.
CDBaby now has the correct information, however they take great pains to explain the it is now out of their hands.
Where can we go ? Who can we turn to ?
And also, how to we get the url of this new CD so that we can link people directly to it ?
    Thanks.
    imac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

CD Baby needs to get it corrected through their provider account with the iTunes Store. It's most definitely not "out of their hands"; in fact, as the label with the account with the iTunes Store, CD Baby is the only ones who can get such a change made.
how to we get the url of this new CD so that we can link people directly to it ?
Control-click on your album and you should get a Copy iTunes Store URL menu. Select that and you can copy the URL to paste into your web page.
