Changed broadband providers, now i cant send email!!!

I have recently moved in with my girlfriend and now whenever i try to send emails via the desktop Mac email application i get the error message -
"This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The SMTP server "smtp.mac.com" doesn't support authentication. Please check your account settings and try again."
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I recently changed ISP to sbcglobal.net aka att.com aka att.yahoo.com.I was completely vexed with sending mail until I found out that I could opt out of their blocking of port 25. Until that, I had to use smtp.att.yahoo.com as my outgoing mail server. I tried using other ports, 587, or whatever, to no avail. Plus, I don't want to come home and futz around with computer configurations. Here is a link to the request form - select opt out of port 25 blocking as the "abuse type." If your girlfriend has at&t for her ISP, this will be it. If not, her ISP might be blocking port 25, and forcing you to use the ISP's SMTP mail server. you can go to the Composing tab in Mail Preferences and set her ISP as the outgoing SMTP server. So I just updated the operating system on my iphone4 to iOS5. Now I cant send email. I can receive email, just cant send. If you are using Yahoo mail and you changed your password you will have to update the password in your Mail App Yahoo account. See Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

I received an upgrade now I cant send email

On Jan 7th or 8th, I noticed my email window looks different (upgrade??) Now I can no longer send emails. I am receiving them but when I try to send email, it says:

I agree, unplug and replug your router, then reset your iPad by holding down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red power down slider, and wait til you see the silver apple. let it reboot and then try your connection.
Chances are rebooting the router will help. You may also need to talk to cox. They may need to reset something on their end.

Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Your email account name>Delete Account. A window will popu after you select your email account in the settings and there is a large red Delete Button at the bottom of the window.
Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Add account. Tap on Add account and start entering your email account details again. If your email account doesn't fit one the per installed accounts in there, tap on Other - and add your account in there.
I would restart the iPad after you delete the email account, just to be starting "fresh" again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button

Update - I now have it working.
am not really sure what exactly fixed it.
I changed a lot of things but my setup now has the following which I think fixed.
outgoing server - p06-smtp.mail.me.com
override default port checked - port now 587
on more options button changed it to "use incoming server info".

We use ntlworld as our home broadband provider and main email address. In my experience ntl doesn't usually allow sending of email except on its own network which is why yours works at home. My iPhone is set up to send my ntl email using my second email account's smtp setting (in my case is is a mac.com account and I haven't found any network this doesn't work on to send email).
So my advice is to get yourself another email account with a different provider like yahoo or google, then use the new provider smtp address to send your ntl email on your iPhone.

I just set up my home today previoulsy changed over from orange, I have 4 email accounts spread between btconnect and organgehome.
I have searched high and low to find how to set the email preferences in outlook 2003 and can recive but cant send emails and I wondered if any one could help.
I have selected the outgoing server authentication tab as this seemed a common problem for others that I have found in FAQs, however for me it dont work.

For non BTinternet email addresses, you normally need to do something called address verification. See my shortcuts option 0e on this topic.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Usually 'authentication required' means that you need to submit a username (or e-mail address) and password to the e-mail server, when sending a message. This logic is not different between Outlook and Thunderbird, and even with the latest and previous version of Thunderbird.
Of course you can try the previous version again to see if it solves the problem, although you'll be less secure because you would be missing the latest fixes.
