Changed Dept Dimension Hierarchy, erased all historical data!

Yesterday I made a change to our Department dimension. I changed a base level member (034) to be a "child" to another base-level member (050). I changed the Parent property for 034 to 050 and didn't make any changes to the parent of 050, then saved and processed the Dimension with no problems. We later decided we did not want this to be the structure and changed it back so 034 and 050 were both base level members again. Then I saved and processed the dimension again with no problems.
Now it seems that these changes erased all data for Department 050 for all time periods and all categories! Has anyone else experienced this? If so, do you know a way to correct it? One of our IT people looked at the data tables and the data is not there any more, so we are looking at ways to restore it, but I want to understand why this happened so we can avoid it in the future.
Thanks for any help. FYI, we are on version 7.0.115 for MS in a dual-server environment.

Hi Shawn,
Data can only be saved in base level dimensions.  Parent level members are just rollups of base members and cannot store data.  By changing member 050 to be a parent, the application removed the records from 050.  The only way to get the data back would be to change 050 back to a base member and then restore the records via a backup or reload the data.
Ideally the application would put up a big red flag with a warning that all data is about to be erased when a member is being changed from a base to a parent.  I know that an enhancement request for this has been submitted to SAP, but you may want to open a case and submit another which may add more weight to the request.
This is also discussed in SAP Note 1390866.
Thanks,
Scott

  • I changed my password on my phone becuase my old one became comprimised and now i cant remember it and so i cant access my phone. is there anything i can do without erasing all my data?

i changed the password on my phone and now i cant remember what it was and im locked out. is there anything i can do that doesnt erase all the data on my phone? help please..

In that case, you will have to install iTunes on the computer, put the phone into recovery mode, and restore it as a new device. It will be wiped. Everything on it will be lost.
There is no way to bypass a forgotten lock code. If there were, it wouldn't be much good.

  • I backed up all of my data on my laptop and uploaded songs as well, I then plugged my wifes' phone to upload the music to her device, my laptop then erased all her data (photos, videos etc) and replaced it with mine, is there a way I can restore it all?

    Good day
I synced my iPhone4s with my laptop and loaded music on it, I then tried to upload the music from the same computer to a different iPhone4s and it deleted all the photos and data and replaced it with mine, is there a way to recover the lost data and photos?
    Please help!?

You can only sync to one computer at a time. Changing the computer will erase all data on the device and replace it with the content of the new iTunes library. Only if you can restore from the latest backup of your wife's phone, you can get the data back.

  • How do I transfer all the information in my iTunes on my old mac book to my new mac book pro so I can sync my devices to the new machine with erasing all the data my iPhone and iPad?

I have just bought a new mac book pro and want to use this machine as the main computer to which I will sync my iPhone and iPad.
How do I transfer the information within iTunes on my old mac book so when I connect the devices the new machine will not erase all my data?
    Thank you

Copy the entire iTunes folder within the music folder on your old Mac to the music folder on your new Mac.
You can use an external hard disc for the transfer, or you can connect the computers together using Firewire Target Disc Mode as explained here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661

  • How do I erase all my data from my iPad mini?

I purchased a new Ipad mini yesterday.  I want to return it but first would like to erase all my data entered.  The only information I found on how to do this requires that one go to settings>general>reset>erase all data.  I tried this; however, my mini has no reset option in settings>general.  Any suggestions?

On an iPad Mini the charger port is very small, the cable should look like this:
The larger plug goes to the charger brick.  The smaller thinner plug goes into the iPad's port, labeled Lightning Connector in the picture below.

  • I need help resetting my iCloud email address. i have erased all y data to solve a bug problem. I re-entered my email incorrectly; putting hitmail instead hotmail.

Please help. I had clitch on my iphone. i was advised to reset my phone to factory settings. I successfully erased all the data. when i came to restore the software and back up data on to my phone I accidentally put the wrong email address whilst setting up my iCloud account. Instead putting in hotmail i put hitmail. I've tried to edit the email address, but I'm unable to. I've tried to erase the data again but I'm prompted to turn of the 'find my iphone' app. i can't do this because it ask for apple I'd; which I can't access because I've entered the wrong email.
    Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Force it into recovery mode and restore it again, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.  Then set it up again using the correct address.

  • Installing iOS 5 erases all previous data

Installation of iOS 5 erased all previous data on my iPad. Help! Prior to iCloud being in the picture, where were all my photos and documents backed up?
I am attempting to locate the files which vanished upon updating to iOS 5 - hundreds of pdf files, thousands of uploaded photos, screen shots, saved photos from web, ALL GONE. So were all my acquired apps, although those have been replaced - now I can begin or attempt to reconstitute the complex folder structure (notes, notes 2, notes 3, etc.) which grew over the last few iOS iterations, from too many apps stuffed into folders with strict limitations on contents. Tedious, but possible. Re all the photos, I'm still looking for clues: Is solid state storage similar to that on disk drives – does deleted information still reside on the drive, just not on the index?
Also, post updating, I am continually being prompted to authorize my computer, even though it is, and my Apple ID is intermittently rejected as if invalid, this is causing syncing challenges.
    Thanks.
Weary of chasing side effects of upgrading operating systems.

Same for me, when install was finished all was gone, but strange enough the disk space bar was indicating 14Go other and that was exactly my content "in app" without apps, photos, video and music. So this data was not accessible due to missing apps and all my photo/video/music was gone.
I had exactly the same issue last upgrade, and last time I decided to resync my media content and started to add apps one by one again, and by magic almost all the apps managed to find back their data in the 14Go "other" that was still in the IPad. But I had to redo a lot of work like Icon position, some settings, and some apps didn't restore well. Took me a very long time and effort to get back to a nominal situation.
So this time I deciced instead to click "Restore" before doing any sync and used the backup that was generated automaticly just before the upgrade to 5.0 (so still with version 4 of ths IOS)
The process started, the Ipad rebooted and firmware was then loaded again (still 5.0) and the 14Go data from the backup was reloaded also, and this time after this quite long step, itunes started to restore apps, music, photos and videos one by one ... was quite a very long process but at the end all was perfect, storage was back to 40 Go including my 14Go data and all photos, videos and apps, with all setting perfectly restored.
    Hope this help,
    Patrick

  • Clearing all historical data from the graphs

    Hi all,
Now that I have upgraded to 4.1.1c I want to clear all historical data and start from scratch with the graphs/stats/reporting. Is there a way to do such a thing? Could not find anything in the docs other than "clear statistics all" which seems unrelated.
    Thanks
    Adrian

Enclosed is the report montioring and configuring guide.
The clear statistics command clears all statistical counters from the parameters given. Use this command to monitor fresh statistical data for some or all features without losing cached objects or configurations.

  • HT1766 Where is my old backup stored? Because of auto backup, I can't see any of my older ones and with new ios erased all my data and it kept backing up the "new" setting

I plugged in my iphone and then itunes says my iOS was old and need update. Hence I update it to 7 where it erased all my data to start with, and it was actually backed up before it was erased.
After the new iOS was installed, it just couldn't restore the old data and instead it kept auto back up the new setting.  I called apple help line and the guy said whatever is on the itunes list is all there is. But because of the auto backup, the whole list is full of new backups without my old stuff. Is there anyone who can tell me whether these files are overridden or instead just not showing on itunes, and where can I find it?
    Thanks lots

When you restore a device, a new backup is created and the old backup has a date added to the backup name.
Look in iTunes prefs > Devices.
The current backup will not have a date in the name. It will show the date on right side.
