Changed file location in catalog to backup drive location

Photoshop Elements 6 (20070910.r.377499)
I do not know why the catalog has changed the file location of "ALL" pictures to the location on my backup drive.
Example: K:\My Documents\My Pictures\Pets\PICT1460-1.JPG
The actual location of the original photo is:  D:\My Documents\My Pictures\Pets\PICT1460-1.JPG
The location of "My Pictures" is on my primary Hard Drive D:\My Documents\My Pictures\
Why is Photoshop changing all of my 37,000+ photo thumbnails to point to my Backup Drive K:\?
I need to correct the catalog file. How do I make the correction and stop it from happening in the future?

I use a backup program, Retrospect 7.6, that copies selected files from my primary drive, D:\ and some from C:\ and copies them to my backup drive K:\ every night at midnight. The files are all there but I want to catalog to point to the original location on the D: drive. Can I change the catalog to reflect the original file location? I would like to have the flexibility to move the backup file location but now I HAVE TO KEEP MY PICTURES ON THE K: Drive.
Also when new pictures show up, the program looks for them on the K: Drive.

  • Can I retrieve files from a modern Mac Backup drive to a PPC Mac?

Can I retrieve files from a modern Mac Backup drive to a PPC Mac?  I have been having problems with my Macbook Pro not starting up.  I need to figure out how to access files with my PPC Desktop; if possible.
What type of files can I access and what type I cannot?
My Macbook Pro: MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), 750GB HD, 2.2 GHz, 6 GB RAM
    My PPC: Power mac G4/Upgraded 1.2GHZ /800+RAM/3 HD =400+ GB, Mac OS X (10.4.2)
    Thanks in advance,
    God bless

You will need software that is compatible with the data files on the backup drive, ie. if they are .doc files you will need Word (or a substitute).
You don't mention what type of files are on the drive so it is hard to be specific.

  • How do you change file locations?

I am using Lightroom on a Mac osx. I moved all my photo files to an external hard drive. Is there a way I can update my Lightroom catalog to captur the file location change? Will all the editing info, etc., transfer as well? Please help>

Use LR to move them. If you've already moved them, use LR to locate the now-red folders (right-click on them).

  • How to change file location path at run time in OWB 10g

    Hello all,
We want to load several files with the same name but from different folders into a single table.
The information about the paths is stored in an oracle table.
Is there any best practice to achieve this?
Our approach is to loop on the number of sources and execute the mapping after changing the location path. We found how to make the loop, and have the apropriate OMB command to update the location path, but we are still looking for a way to call this OMB plus command in a process flow or a mapping. Any idea?
We also succeeded in loading the file from an unregistered location, which is necessary to be able to update the path, but I'm not sure this is really the best approach. Any advise?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    best regards
    Cedric.

    Hi,
I can provide you with an idea on this, dont know if it will work or not.
Suppose, you need to load 5 files in different folder locations into a single table. Call the mapping 5 times in a process flow. If you log in to the database, and go the table all_directories in your target schema, you will find an entry for the actual path of the file you are trying to laod. I think if this path is updated before each run of the mapping, you can load all files into the target table. Only thing you have to do is call a procedure which will update this record in all_directories table with the different locations each time you want and then plug in this procedure before each call to the mapping in a process flow and see if it works or not?

  • Not able to change file locations

I have a few video's I need to put online.
    So I made a flash-file that will load a file externaly (http://.../locus.f4v). When I publish that flash file it renders a locus.swf, locus.index and a SkinOverAllNoFullNoCaption.swf (skin).
When I upload everything works fine. But to easily manage all of my video's I can't have them lying arround and would like them in a folder. So I create a folder locusvideos. I change all the links in the html-file to locusvideos/... .swf but it just shows an empty page.
so where are all the files at?
locus.html (is in the most top folder)
    /locusvideos/locus.swf
    /locusvideos/SkinOverAllNoFullNoCaption.swf
and the video-file is still on the same place
    Is there something I'm missing?
    kind regards,
         Jeroen

yes, but everything worksfine  untill I want to change the locations of the files eventhough I update the location in the html document.
I'm looking for someone who perhaps can explain how everything links/works together en can help me how to relocate the files without problems.

  • Change file location

There's been a lot written on how to move an iTunes Media library, I haven't seen anything for a situation that I'm trying to resolve.
I'd like to move some of my movie files from an internal drive folder to an external NAS box.  The library of movies would be split between these two drive locations.  Consolidating onto one drive is not an option.
The problem is that when I move the movies to the NAS box, OS X does not update the file location within iTunes and then iTunes reports them as missing, forcing me to manually restablish the new file location for each movie that I moved.  It will take far to long for me to do this based on the number of movies I'm moving.
After I move the movies, I could import them back into iTunes to establish the new drive location, however this has the disadvantage of resetting stats on those movies and iTunes treats them as 'new' rather then previously viewed, and date stamps are reset as well (Recently added).
Are there any tricks or utils that I could use that would allow me to only update their new file locations on the external hard drive?
And to clarify, all my music, and movie files are not imported and managed by the itunes Media folder.  The options "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" are not checked on.  I'm also using the latest versions of OS X, iTunes etc.
    Thanks for any help.

Doug's script Re-locate Selected would let you move all the movies into a single folder. Altenatively you could declare a new media folder on the NAS drive, decline when iTunes offers to consolidate, select just the files that you want to move, right/ctrl-click and select Consolidate from the context menu. Reset the media folder when the consolidate process completes, again cancel any prompt to copy files to the media folder. This will create copies in the new media folder but you will have to tidy up the originals by hand.

  • ITunes keeps changing file locations to something wrong when syncing

I have my music stored on a Synology DS409 NAS which is mounted using afp as /Volumes/music. I also have another mount from the same NAS as /Volumes/photo. Whenever I try syncing my iPhone or an iPod, I get errors about some files not syncing because they could not be played.
On looking at some of these files in iTunes using Get Info, the location has been changed from its original (correct) /Volumes/music/xx to some random picture file under /Volumes/photo/xx
I know the original file was correct because I've checked the iTunes Library xml file for any occurrence of "photo" and found none before syncing. I can manually fix the errors by deleting them items from iTunes and re-adding them, but I then get more errors on different files when syncing next.
I used to have the iTunes server feature turned on on the Synology DS409, but I've turned that off now. I wondered whether it was down to the /Volumes/music file system disappearing occasionally (another issue!) but it has happened even when the music folder is mounted. Very frustrating!
As a last resort, I could copy the music on to the local disk in my iMac, but that defeats the point of the NAS really. It should work.
    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks

Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and continue to hold down the SHIFT key. This dialog should appear:
If iTunes opens normally close it and try again. Use Choose Libraray... to open the copy of your library on the external drive. Check the location of the media folder once opened. You can now remove the iTunes folder on C: without it reappearing.

  • Changing file location fast and easy? Recieved files to My Music.

I want to copy and paste all my music from "Recieved Files" into "My Music", but I don't want to go through all my iTunes library changing the current locate if that makes sense.
Is there a way to do this quick and easy? I don't want to get rid of my play count or delete it from my library. I simply want all my music together in one folder instead of everywhere. Surely there's an easier way to do it than clicking EVERY song I've changed it's location and having to relocate it my finding it on my computer in the new place?
    Any help will do! ;D

I had the same problem after trying to copy all my files to my D Drive. I moved them back to C after realizing I had to click and play every song for ITunes to know it's location. Problem is, it created an ITunes folder inside of the other ITunes folder.
Tried consolidating to get everything to D Drive. It is now there but in a folder called simply My Music. At this point, I don't know what to delete, what not to, and don't want to plug in the Pod to auto sync until I'm sure it won't go to either the partial c drive orig folder (which seemed to catch my last two song downloads), the folder in a folder on c, or my new D folder as it's not named properly. You didn't say anything about creating a properly named folder first on D.
Help !! I HATE having to own a pc for work -- I was a very happy Mac girl for years and years.
Also -- what do I open to make my Pod ask me which way to sync (computer to Pod or the reverse) because frankly, I'm about ready to delete everything on the hard drive and start over syncing from the Pod to the computer again, but I know I need to tell the computer this is what I would want or it will write the computer info onto the Pod.

  • Help! changed file location on pc, then back, now itunes can't find

because my c drive was getting full, i changed my itunes file storage location to another drive, following the 'help' instructions. i copied over my entire itunes music folder. it stored new imports there but when i click on most of the old stuff, it couldn't locate it. so i copied the whole itunes folder back where it was - and it still can't find it. and now it's deleted it all from my ipod.
what's my fastest fix? do i manually import everything over again from the new drive, or manually change every song's location, or is there an easier global way?
    thank you!

Something is different in the paths to the files....hence itunes cannot find them.
Sound like you know about the ITL file, which is why you copied it over.
What you can do is look in its companion XML file to see the paths itunes thinks it should be using.
If your XML is really big, open it using WordPad instead of NotePad. About the 10th line down is the itunes preference setting for the itunes folder:
    key>Music Folder</key><string>file://localhost/K:/iTunes%20Music/</string>
On my system it's K:/iTunes Music
The %20 just indicates a space.
Then each song will have its own path
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/K:/iTunes%20Music/Cowboy%20Junkies/The%20Trinity%20Session/07%2 0200%20More%20Miles.mp3</string>
Now....can you see ANYTHING funny in one of those song paths? Is there an extra space, a different user name, anything different than what you could browse to in Windows Explorer?

  • Restore only latest versions of files in a simple save backup drive

When I go to restore (transfer) files to a new computer from my HP simple save drive, how do I select only the latest backup versions of ALL files (photos, docs, music, etc...)?
    Thank you

If you have applied raster layer effects in illustrator, then it won't work because you no longer have a vector image.
What is the zoom factor of your composition window? What is the resolution of your comp window? If you would post a screenshot of your composition with the properties of the layers in question revealed by pressing the u key twice maybe we would have a clue what you are doing wrong. It's quite difficult to come up with an answer with out some details. We need more details.

  • I deleted a specific file folder from my Seagate backup drive, via Time Machine. Instead of only deleting that file, it deleted ALL my files for that date.

    1. Why? I was quite obviously selecting one file folder ONLY.
    2. Is there any way to retrieve the lost items?
    3. How do I avoid this happening in the future?

Never had any issues while deleting specific files/folders from a time machine backup.
However, regarding the original post, what do you mean by "file folder"? Did you select a FILE for deletion, or a FOLDER? These two terms tend to be quite different, you know.
If you selected a FOLDER, then ALL FILES inside the folder have been deleted. If you selected a single FILE, then only that file should have been deleted. "Delete all backups of..." is a completely different story.

  • Attempting to transfer music files directly from iTunes to backup drive and get the the item can't be replaced because it's invisible. Its amazing how when something works flawlessly, Apple has to screw it up.  Never saw this until the new iTunes.

Hate it! Anywaze, suggestions welcome that can permanently remedy the issue without having to go through file by file, song by song to make copies, renaming, resetting, etc.  Thanks so much.

Are you dragging the entire iTunes folder across in Finder (which is easiest)?

  • Converting from WMA to MP3 changes file locations

When I try to import my WMA files into the iTunes library, it converts them to MP3, which is OK, but iTunes "organizes" my music folder in it's own twisted image, even though I have the option "keep iTunes music folder organized" UNCHECKED. Does anyone know how to import WMA files and have them stay in the same place once they've been converted to MP3?

    hi Alex!
Does anyone know how to import WMA files and have them stay in the same place once they've been converted to MP3?
just trying to clear something up ... do you have "Copy files to itunes music folder when importing" unchecked too?

  • Multiple Computers, one main backup drive?

Can multiple computers backup to one main backup drive?
I have a G5 desktop with a 250-GB drive (Mac OS X) and a 750-GB drive (which used to contain iTunes until I moved it to a new iMac).
So I was planning on using the G5 as the drive for Time Machine to back up to. I have my iMac, and two MacBooks using it.
Is this going to be problematical? Such as when more than one machine attempts to make a backup?

Time Machine can back up multiple computers to the same hard drive.
There are two options... one you can physically move the backup hard-drive around among the computers.
The second option is that you can backup over the network as long as all computers involved are running Leopard. To do this connect the backup drive to your G5. Turn on file sharing on the G5 for that drive. On the other computers connect to the shared drive from the Finder sidebar. The run System Preferences and in the Time Machine Preference pane select "Change Disk" and choose the network backup drive as the destination.

  • Is iTunes backed up on backup drive??

My iMac won't boot (that's a whole other post I need to submit!) but I need to retrieve old text messages. I backed up my iPhone weekly and my iMac pretty much daily...Would iTunes have backed up the file I need to retrieve these text messages? And what would the file be called on my backup drive? How to retrieve these messages once I find this folder? Many thanks!

yes if you ran Time Machine Backup.
To retrieve it, run the OS X system from the backup, then recover the Phone from iTunes from the Backup.
