Changed music location - itunes won't update list?

I have all of my music on a new hard drive and pointed iTunes to that as my music location. I want it to go through and make sure all the music in there is in the iTunes playlist - can this be done?
edit: I guess I could clear my list and drag all the music over, but there's a lot and I hate that iTunes always attempts to do the gapless playback thing. (On a related note, why does Apple add a lot of features without a toggle option?)

pointed iTunes to that as my music location
That simply tells iTunes where you want new music to go.
It is still looking for your music in the old location.
Quit iTunes.
Move the music back to where it was (Music\iTunes\iTunes music folder).
Restart iTunes.
All teh music should work.
Point iTunes prefs -> Advanced -> iTunes music folder location to where you want the music to be located.
Now go to iTunes menu File -> Library -> Consolidate.
This will copy everything in iTunes to the new location and use that for everything.
Then you can delete \Music\iTunes\iTunes music folder.

  • Itunes won't update, ipod unusable without it

I have an ipod touch. I have been really good about keeping my itunes up to date. The last version I updated to was early this year. It keeps telling me I need to update but that it failed to update after download and that I need to manually install.
I plugged my ipod in and it asked me to update the ipod software so I did. Then it tells me that the ipod won't work unless I have the 10.0.1. But when I go to itunes and download itunes 10.0.1 it downloads but won't install and tells me I have an invalid drive F:/. I don't even have a drive F. I can't use my ipod now, I turn it on and I have the picture of the ipod being plugged into itunes. But itunes won't update. Nothing online or in any thread I have found has given me a solution. I am very frustrated. Is there anything I can do? Or do I need to uninstall itunes and lose all my music and apps?

I just put a flash drive into a USB port and then it started the install and when it asked where I wanted to put it I changed it from drive F to C.

  • ITunes won't update, unistall or re-install.

iTunes won't update or unistall. When I try, it says the installer source doesn't exist. When I tried to just reinstall it fresh, it says the old versions of Bonjour, iTunes and Quicktime can't be removed. Any solution for any of this?

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeksare worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select anyiTunes, QuickTime and Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

My iTunes won't update on my computer. I have windows vista. I can open up itunes and when I click on "check for updates" it asks if I want to download iTunes version 11.1.5 and I click "Download iTunes" but then nothing happens. Sometimes uptop the loading bar will appear but for only a split second. I have tried restarting, shutting down, I cannot figure out why it won't download. What's happening and how do I fix it?

Try updating using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

  • My iTunes Won't update apps

My iTunes Won't update apps when i click check update it say"your iTunes library is up-to date"
awhen i check update From iPhone the it update all apps which are out dated

It sounds like you've already done the things that would fix most  iPhones.
You can try restoring your iPhone.
If that doesn't do it, try contacting Apple through Express Lane. They may be able to gather some aditional logs and pinpoint the exact problem.

My iTunes won't update from 10.0 to 10.5.  Every time I try it says that the itunes64 folder is missing.  I have tried to download it manually and repair the connection to the folder but it still won't download.  Please help.

Doublechecking. Is it saying that the itunes64.msi can't be found?

  • ITunes won't update music location

I have all my music on a network drive on a Linux server and it's mirrored to a local drive. I mapped the server music directory to my Windows XP Pro SP2 PC as I:/ and it worked very well. Podcasts download to my server and are picked up on my wireless network music player (Squeezebox 3).
I recently updated iTunes to 6.0.5 and ended up with lots of grey exclamation marks next to my music in iTunes. So, I changed the location to the local Windows drive (E:/My Docs/My Music), it ran the updater (Updating iTunes Library) and still had the grey exclamation marks. So I changed it back to I:/ and the updater ran again, but still exclamation marks. I can click an exclamation-marked tune and say Yes to browse to where the tune is located on I:/ and then it plays and the exclamation mark disappears so I know it's not an access problem.
Previously I could switch between E:/My Docs/My Music and I:/ quite happily and the updater always worked.
I figured that perhaps it was a problem with iTunes 6.0.5 so I reverted back to 6.0.4 and the problem persists.
I presumed that the updater overwrites the file location in the iTunes Music Library.xml file, so I had a look at that and it had my music folder listed as being at <key>Music Folder</key><string>file://localhost/I:/</string>, so that's okay. But most of the tunes are listed as being at the OLD location, which is file://localhost//Clarkconnect/shared/iTunes/
I went into iTunes, double clicked an exlamation-marked song, browsed to its location and then closed iTunes again. Then I went into the xml file to see what had changed - as expected, the file location had changed from the old to the new and all was well.
So, I thought it would simply be a case of using Find Replace to change the old location to the new. So I did that, opened iTunes, and, to my dismay, still exclamation marks. So I closed iTunes, opened the xml file and found that the old locations were all back again! AAARGH.
Is it something to do with the iTunes Library.itl file? I moved that to see what would happen, opened iTunes and was greeted to an empty iTunes interface. Closing it down created a new iTunes Library.itl file. So I quickly put the old one back, but I don't know how to read that file (Wordpad, etc. show gobbledygook).
So, once again, much time has been spent trying to fix a problem that wasn't there yesterday. Can anyone please help? I know this is a bit long-winded but I tried to explain my steps as best I could. Thanks for reading through my post!

    AM64 3500+   Windows XP Pro

I've suffered with this and many other problems with iTunes and now use WinAmp. Once I moved my library to a network drive, iTunes hadn't got a clue, despite doing all the same things you did to help it.
I never found a way to define where podcasts were stored, other than where Apple dictated, and the "podcast directory" button was always greyed out.
The main purpose of iTunes is to sell (actually lease) you stuff online and I don't want to do that. So I rarely use it now, just keeping it for the podcast subscription downloads which I then move to a place which is convenient for ME (not THEM).

  • My itunes won't update; therefore, I can't sync my music to iphone

When I open itunes, a message pops up that there is an updated version and asks me if I want to download it.  I click download, the message disappears, and then nothing.  I currently have version 11.04.4.  When I try to sync my iphone with itunes, it tells me it won't do it because it requires version 11.1 or higher.  I have tried going to apple.com and clicking the download for the itunes update, but that doesn't seem to work either.  It says I downloaded it, but as far as I can tell, I didn't because I keep getting the same message in itunes that an updated version of itunes is available and asks me if I want to download it.  I have checked to see if my pop-up blocker is too sensitive.  As far as I can tell, it's set on "low."  I am not computer savvy at all.  Can someone please help?

I realize this is a dumb question, but as I said, I am not computer savvy.  After the download was complete, no pop-up box occurred prompting the install, so as you said, I clicked on start to try to search for the download of it.  What do I look for to find the download of the new itunes version?  I am embarrassed to be so dumb about this and appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

  • My itunes won't update. It's looking for 10.6.0.40. Last time it tried to update, I downloaded the msi to my desktop and I deleted it within the last six months. Now I can't uninstall or update.

The last time my iTunes couldn't update. I used support from Itunes and downloaded it my desktop. My mistake. Because without thinking, I deleted it within the last six months from my desktop, without thinking I'd need it later. For the past month I've needed to update my Itunes and it can't find the msi. Now, my Ipad, my kids' ipod touches and my iphone can't update. Especially the ipod touches, iphone and work ipad have already updated to the OS6. And, now they won't work with this outdated iTunes. Help.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • ITunes won't update or open?

I attempted to update my iTunes on my macbook yesterday and apparently I didn't close the app before I started the update, so it gave me a warning message that in order to complete the installation I had to close iTunes...yet when I clicked on the app to close it I got another error message saying that I couldn't open iTunes during the updating. So, how exactly can I close the app if I can't open it? It looks like it's already closed itself when I started to update it but it keeps telling me it's open. The error message won't go away, either, and it's been on my screen ever since it popped up. Is there a way just to force-quit all my apps or something? Help please I need my music!

  • ITunes won't update

When I try to update through iTunes and after it downloads it says an error has occurred try and download again. Then I went on apple.com and tried that way and the installer downloaded. Then when it tried to download after a while it says an error occurred. Configuration couldn't complete so try again. So I did and same thing happens every time. I just bought an Iphone 6 Plus 128g and a I have also a 5s that I can't connect to itunes and restore. So as of right now this is a big inconvenience. I don't have anything on my phones. Thanks for any help.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes (similar to those above) and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if iTunes won't install normally.

  • Help? iTunes won't update iPod

When I plug in my iPod, iTunes recognizes the iPod and lists it on the column on the left as "Todd's iPod" - but it won't update the songs I have in iTunes onto the iPod. Is there something I can do to manually to make it update?

iTunes 10.2.x requires Mac OS X 10.5.x or later. If you're still running 10.4.11 like you have listed in your profile then you need to upgrade before you can install the newer iTunes.
If you have 10.5.x or later then just uninstall your current version and download the new one from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  • My Itunes won't update normally

This is a problem I've had for years, but I'd like to see if there's a fix.
If I use iTunes -> Check for updates... in the menu bar, I get the message
A new version of iTunes (12.1) is available. Would you like to download it now?
When I select the "Download iTunes" option, though, my AppStore gets opened on the "Updates" page with the message "No updates available".
I know I can download iTunes manually from the apple website, but I'd like to figure out why it won't update through the AppStore.
    see: http://webmshare.com/play/aRKBgg

Settings > iTunes & App Stores > tap your Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region
If you find that it is set to the correct region, log out of your iTunes Store account, restart your iPad, and sign into your account again.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

  • Error message when opening itunes; won't update or uninstall itunes

a few months ago, i downloaded the new version of itunes and safari together. once downloaded, my computer restarted and wouldn't turn back on. i repeatedly attempted to run my computer but, once it was turned back on, it just stayed on a solid black screen. finally, and by some random occurrence, my computer came back on and ran normally with one exception, i got an error message every time i tried to open itunes. when i click on itunes to open it, i get a message that says "this action is only valid for products that are installed" itunes is most certainly installed on my computer. i then tried to reinstall the new version of itunes, but it tells me it can't locate itunes.msi. and i get the same message when i try to uninstall it.
i tried to go through my OS (C:), then program files, and then right-click on itunes and delete it, but i constantly get a message that says "permission is required" so i select try again.
i also tried to download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, but that too gives me an error message when i try to run it.
    i'm hopeless! pleeeeeease help me.

i also tried to download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, but that too gives me an error message when i try to run it.
Is that an 800A0046 error, megan?
If so, can you get CleanUp to install if you do a run as administrator, as per the following document?
