  • I have changed my DSL router and my Airport express device doesn' work anymore

Hello, After I changed my DSL router (from my internet provider, it's a netgear), my Airport Express doesn't work anymore. It shows a yellow light.
I have tried to unplug several times with no success. The Airport utility on my Mac (running MacOS 10.6.8) doesn't discover it.
    Any idea?

Unplug the AirPort Express from power
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button on the Express and keep holding it in for an additional 7-8 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart and come back up to a slow blinking amber light.
Now the Express is back to factory settings
Look for a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxxx. You have to log on to that network first....no password is required.....then open AirPort Utility

  • Change from dsl to cable

i changed from dsl to a cable modem and now the airport express will not connect to the new modem, is there a way to fix this issue,  thanks  Ron

Reset and start over.. whenever you change modem you need a full factory reset of the apple router.
Cable system is tricky in that authentication is to the Modem MAC address usually.. and the first device that plugs in captures the public IP, which will not be released until the dhcp lease time expires. Since that might be days.. you need to power down the modem.. it can take afew minutes.. up to 20min to release the address.
It does depend on if the modem is also a router.. but mostly cable companies still use pure modems.. watch out if it has phone service as well though because they often have battery backup. And you therefore need to pull the battery out as well to power down the modem.
Pure modem then the express has to be in router mode.. And wan is by dhcp not pppoe like adsl.
If the modem is also a router then the power cycling is not necessary and the express just needs to be in bridge mode.

  • Changed from DSL to Cable

I have recently changed from DSL to Cable. WRT54G was working flawlessly with DSL now that I am on cable the router drops connection and I have to do the power cycle again and again every after 30 to 45 minutes.
Both my desktop and my laptop are on wireless. If I wire them directly to the modem it works fine and never drops connection. But when I feel confident of my connection and go wireless then the cycle of 30 to 45 minutes starts all over again.
    Appreciate any help or suggestions.
    Thanks

Many cable companies register the MAC address of the computer or router that connects to them.  If you later connect an unregisterer MAC address, they kick you off the system, typically within an hour or so of when you log in.
Connect your router to your cable modem.  Reboot entire system. Then call your cable company and tell them you have a new router.   Ask them to reset their system to accept your new MAC address.
If they tell you that they only record the MAC address of your modem, and not the MAC address of your computer or router, then ask them to monitor your line, and see if they see any reason that your connection is dropping.
Hopefully this will correct your problem.  If not, let us know.

  • Can only connect 1 computer at a time after changing from DSL to Cable.

I have 2 laptops using Airport cards, and one Tower connected via ethernet to Airport basestation. With DSL no problem (DSL required PPPoE). With cable I can use internet assistant and restart each device and finally connect, but only one at a time. I'll set up one, then have to reboot everything to set up the next computer and lose the connection with the first. Cable needs to use DHCP it seems.
To get it to work with the new modem I had to change the base stations configuration from distributing IP addresses to not distributing IP addresses. Methinks this has something to do with my not being able to get more than one computer working at a time.
Any help would be appreciated. Have to iBooks, and a G4 tower. 2 running OSX10.4.10, and one wtih 10.5.2.

Figured it out after about an hour talking first with Comcast, then Apple support. AEBS was not acting as router at all, and had been put in bridge mode.
Easy solution once this was realized was to do hard reset (I thought I was doing this by unplugging the AEBS, but had to actually find and press the hard reset button) which reset all the settings at which point setup was pretty easy. Made sure it was not in bridge mode, did an automatic setup using the Airport utility, and voila. Everything including my new iPod could connect.
Now if I could only have the 6 hours back that I spent going around in circles in bridge mode.

  • How do I change the EBS Apache port to 8000?

    Hi,
I need to change the Apache http port number to default port 8000 for our EBS apps tier and Discoverer for EBS version 11.5.10.2. Can anyone please provide some guidance on how to correctly do it?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    HI Hussein,
I tested the changes on my dev environment. I changed the context variables and ran the autoconfig successfully. For Apache it seems to be working fine. However, the s_disco_port keeps changing back to same as 8008 (the new Apache port) in the context_file every time I run the autoconfig. So, now the discoverer can be accessed with port 8008 instead of 8080 (the new port we need).
Any idea why the context_file keeps changing the s_disco_port?
I changed the Following context variables. (For Apache changed to 8008 and for Disco changed to 8080). Previously, they were all 8000.

  • Silly question, maybe. I want to change from Verizon DSL to cable, but cable company doesn't supply router.  can I use my Airport Extreme as wireless router?

We currently have the following wireless home-network configuration, powered by Verizon DSL.
    2 macbook pro’s
    1 emachine
    HP PhotoSmart 6122 all-in-one printer
    Apple TV
Apple Airport Extreme Base Port A 1408
    Westell 7500 router
Thinking I’d get wider wireless coverage throughout my 2 bedroom home, I purchased the Airport Extreme. It is connected to the router via its sole usb port.  The result was only a tiny increase in speed, and no increase in coverage, so I don’t know why I have it.
We now want to change from DSL to cable, thus ditching Verizon.  Our new cable provider supplies the cable box, but no router for wireless networking.
    Here are my questions.
Can I use the Airport Extreme (AE) as a wireless router?
If so, how should I hook it up?  Should the usb cable go from the AE to the cable box, and all the other devices connect wirelessly?
If not, how should I be using the AE to some advantage?  What can I get out of the investment?
Thank you very much for your help!  Beatriz

What I wrote has nothing to do with what the cable company charges for their installation. And, usually they will help with the router setup even if you supply your own router. I don't know what they will charge for the modem.
Note that you need to get just a modem. You don't want a modem/router combination. That will make using an AEBS effectively nearly impossible. You will need to ask specifically for just a standalone modem, and that you will supply your own router.

  • Fault: crash apache from pl/sql!

    Hi
I have a report (PL/SQL function body returning SQL query) in which I mis-typed an assignment operator. using a hyphen instead of equals:
l :- l||[some stuff]On clicking Apply Changes, my session stopped dead. Investigation showed that Apache and Enterprise Manager had both died.
Without having spotted the typo, I got the service back up, re-entered the Apex Builder and navigated to the page with the relevant report. I made an edit (but didn't correct the as-yet undetected typo) and hit Apply Changes. The same casualties.
I got the service back up again, spotted and corrected the typo, hit Apply Changes, and all was well.
I'm still at 2.2, so maybe this has been fixed at 3.0. If it hasn't it's one to be aware of...
    Happy days

    j4john,
Investigation showed that Apache and Enterprise Manager had both died.I'm curious - what led you to this conclusion? Can you please share any error information which confirms this?

  • Ipod Touch Totally Dead After Failed Update to 4.0 OS

    Hi folks,
There is another discussion with the exact same title but the problem was never resolved. I decided to create a new discussion because I successfully revived my buddies iPod that had the same problem. I know a lot of people probably still have paperweight out-of-warranty iPods lying around, so here goes!
My friend had a 3rd gen 8GB iPod Touch and uses iTunes on Windows XP. He plugged his iPod in one night and iTunes recommended he update to OS4. He was previously running the latest OS3 so he said "why not?!". Along went the update no problem until right before rebooting the iPod at the end. He reported that all of a sudden, the battery charging screen popped up with a fully charged green battery, then instantly changed to a red "dead battery" screen then it shut off entirely. That was it. Dead. Nothing he would do with the buttons gave any sign of life.
1 month later of researching, trying DFU mode and all sorts of attempts - still a dead, attractive paperweight with never a single pixel of light on the screen. He finally gave up and asked me to take a look at it.
I tried charging it overnight with a 110V to USB wall charger (as some people recommended) - no change.
I tried plugging it into a Mac (as some people also suggested) - no change, no signs of life.
Plugging it into a Windows XP machine gave an "Unknown USB device" or "USB device not recognized" error.
Well. I managed to get it into DFU (restore) mode and reinstalled OS4.2 with no problem (but it was not obvious) - now it is working again! A fully revived iPod Touch!
So, here is what I did:
    1. Left "charging" overnight with a wall-charger NOT THE USB PORT OF A PC OR MAC.
    2. Getting the iPod into DFU mode is tricky and a question of precise timing so it seems. The exact sequence that worked for me was: 1. HOLD the power button. 2. HOLD (at the same time) the Home button. 3. After 10 seconds, release the POWER button and continue to HOLD the Home button. Eventually, the PC or Mac should detect a new USB device and automatically install the driver for the DFU recovery mode. Once the iPod is detected in this mode, you can release the Home button. Note that you MUST have iTunes installed in order for the computer to install the driver for the iPod. If you do not have iTunes installed, Windows will still report the device as a "USB Device" and ask for the driver (contrary to the "Unknown USB device" or "USB device not recognized" errors). Once the device is happy in your OS, fire up iTunes and follow the instructions to restore your iPod. Enjoy! I recommend downloading/installing the LATEST ITUNES before recovering your device. Older versions of iTunes may contain the bug that killed your iPod the first time you tried updating.
Notes: 1. According to Apple, holding the 2 buttons down for 10 seconds and releasing both buttons at the same time simply performs a RESET of the iPod. It does not put it into DFU mode. You MUST continue holding the Home button after releasing the power button in order to get it to convert to DFU mode. I think this is where most people are having trouble. Also, it may have been a coincidence of the exact time I held the Home button after releasing the power button. Try holding it for different intervals after releasing the power button (i.e. 1 sec, 2 secs, 3 secs all the way to 10 secs or even more). BE PATIENT and don't give up! Unless your iPod has a real HARDWARE PROBLEM (which if it was working fine before you tried to update it probably does not), you can ALWAYS get it into DFU mode because that part is HARDCODED in a chip in the iPod and cannot be changed or damaged.
When I was playing with the iPod trying to get it in DFU mode, Windows would see it as a Unknown USB Device. Then sometimes it would disappear and come back as an Unknown USB device. This is a GOOD THING. That means that the iPod IS resetting as per Apple's instructions (which means the iPod DOES have some sort of life). After trying 4 or 5 times, I finally got it to disappear and reappear in DFU mode (as a simple "USB Device" because I did not have iTunes installed. After installing the latest iTunes, it installed the correct drivers automatically).
So give it a try and post your results! Good luck!

My friend had a 3rd gen 8GB iPod Touch
Just for clarification so other people don't get confused and this misinformation keeps getting generated, Apple did not sell a 3rd generation 8GB iPod Touch.
So, your friend must have a 2nd generation iPod Touch.
The 3rd generation was only made in the 32GB and the 64GB models.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#iPodtouchlate2009
The 2nd generation has A1288 stamped on the back
The 3rd generation has A1318 stamped on the back and again, only on the 32GB and 64GB models.
Some software is only designed for the 3rd generation and above so making sure what generation you have can be very important before you possibly buy something your iPod Touch can't use.

  • Why does my safari run slow with DSL?

I recently had to change to DSL internet, and my macbook safari does not do well with it.
I cannot seem to open more than one internet tab at a time, videos do not load, slow loading time for searching.
Is there a way to fix this to where my safari is not so slow?
Is it a macbook fix, or should I increase my DSL usage limit?
My macbook is up to date.

You will have to call the Internet Service Provider and let them test the line.
    Best.

  • Does dropping bitmap index and creation of b- index cause any dead locks

Does dropping a bitmap index on table which is being used continuously for DML operations and creation of b- index cause any dead locks on a table
    in oracle 10g database
    ( 10.1.0.4.0 - 64bi).
we have seen alert log file which has dead lock occurrence.. would index change/re-creation resulted dead lock or some other reason?
Could you please give us info or help us on this.. thanks in advance..

Bitmap indexes can be the cause of deadlocks on busy systems.
Dropping indexes may cause some locking.
Creating indexes may cause some locking.
You haven't given any traces or scripts or lock information, so difficult to say which one (if any) was the cause of your deadlocks.
It would be better to do this activity when the system is not busy.

  • HT2497 Using Time Machine for home wifi just fine. Switched to cable modem from DSL.  Now having trouble connecting laptops to wifi. ISP says it is not their fault. Mac books won't connect on their own.

Changed from DSL to cable modem. Now Mac book pro won't connect to wifi - Time Machine?
One Mac ok, other not. Help?

Thanks. We have been using an existing Time Machine for wifi.  Cable modem replaced DSL router and was hooked up to Time Machine. What's odd is that 3 computers and iPad2 are connecting to home wifi just fine, using exact same network and password as before. My Mac book pro and an older iPad are not. IPhones are also connecting to home wifi just fine. I managed to get my Mac book pro hooked one time by copying ip address from a Mac that was working (entered manually) then turning that one off. That's not what I need.
The error message is "no ip address".

  • Somewhat Frightening Message after Changing Modem / Router Hardware

Yesterday, I changed my DSL Modem/Router to be a DSL Modem only, and added a different router by using its WAN port.
This essentially shut off control of the original modem/router, and moved it to the new router.
Now, we have 4 computers connected via ethernet cables, and none on Wireless. All are turned off, except my partner's Windows XP machine, which, suddenly today has a new message at the bottom left of his Login Window:

  • Apache 2.0, Tomcat 4.0.3, No go...

    Hi,
I've been trying to get Apache 2.0 and Tomcat 4.0.3 linked up so other computers on the network can access my intranet website test environment and run JSPs and servlets. Unfortunatly I have been unable to compile mod_webapp into a DLL (I keep missing out on some header files). Is there anyplace where I can obtain mod_webapp.dll all compiled and everything? The Jakarta Apache site seems to provide only the precompiled stuff which is useless to me.
Also, could anyone please help me out by providing a small snippet of configuration lines that I need to change to make Apache 2.0 and Tomcat 4.0.3 operate together? It is unclear to me exactly what things I need to change in the httpd.conf file.
    Thanks.
