Changelog maxage  recommended value

Is there any recommended value for this attribute, if it is added?
We notice 500 000 entries in the changelog and our directory has only 20 000 user entries.
What performance issues are there if I use 14d rather than 7d
Any hints accepted.

I think it depends on how often you run Meta-Directory. So, if you sync every night, you need 2d, if you sync every week, 8d will be enough.

  • Icm/conn_timeout - SAP recommended value

    Hello All
1.what is the SAP recommendations for icm/conn_timeout at client level
2.why 400 timeout error not creating any dumps in SRM server.
3.Are BUYERs allows to open more than one session like sourcing, redistibution workload, contract many - BUYERs open more than one time. what is SAP recommendations here on ITS sessions.
    4. What is good practice to work on only one ITS session(only sourcing) at a time or BUYER can open more than one web menus at a same time
    Muthu

I can't comment on your first two questions. Below are my understandings regarding opening more than one sessions at a time.
3.Are BUYERs allows to open more than one session like sourcing, redistibution workload, contract many - BUYERs open more than one time. what is SAP recommendations here on ITS sessions.
    4. What is good practice to work on only one ITS session(only sourcing) at a time or BUYER can open more than one web menus at a same time
Before SRM 7.0, when SRM is based on ITS technology, the each transaction is launched in-frame, instead of being in a new window. That to me can be seen as a potential way to discourage users to launch more than one transaction at a time. The main reason could be to avoid mutually exclusive actions, such as one transaction locking the other. Or even hindering the business data consistency, e.g. when data update happens nearly simultenously.
However since SRM 7, the standard approach has changed in this regard by allowing (or forcing) each process to be launched from ES Portal in a new window. Hence allowing the user to have multiple sessions open at the same time. This could be due to the real-estate/space limitation of Portal (since multiple applications could be sharing it, such as HR, SRM, etc).
In general, my take (NOT SAP offical recommentation) is that users should be given options to work on different transactions at the same time, as long as they are fully aware of the effect and consequences.

  • DROP_MAX_TABLE_LOAD recommended value / estimating

    Hello,
Just a short question: what is the recommeded value of the parameter DROP_MAX_TABLE_LOAD alternatively which estimation procedure (considering the message daily throughput, maximal number of messages in DB etc.) can/should be taken into consideration?

  • Measuring the value of "session_cached_cursors"  and "open_cursor"

    Friends ,
Recently In my Database production server Oracle10g (version : 10.2.0.1.0.), I got the "open_cursor" and "session_cached_cursors" related error where OEM asks to increase the value . I have increase the value but the problem still is not solved .
Can anybody plz tell me , how can I measure the Standard value of "open_cursor" and also "session_cached_cursors" of my database server ?
    Another question ,
    SQL> show parameter open_

    open_cursors integer 500
In above output , what is the unit of 500 value . Is this value related with the SGA memory area ?

    I have another query ...
How can I find the standarnd value of "open_cursor" as well as "session_cached_cursors" parameter value in the respect of my oracle database server . And what are the recommended value of these parameters . I am using oracle database 10g (v-10.2.0.1.0 ) .Shipon,
You can see the values of the parameters in your db with the simple show parameter command,
    >
    show parameter open_cursors
    show parameter session_cached_cursors>
About the settings of the parameters and their optimal value, I guess there wont' be any "concrete" answer to that. Session cached cursors is set to 50 default in Oracle which means 50 cursors can be marked as 'hot cursors' for the the system and will be avoided from the library cache lookup. This also has a condition that the cursor will be marked as hot only when its run for 3 times. So you need to check back with your system that how many queries are actually requiring this optimization. And more over, this is used or said to be used when you are seeing a Library Cache Latch contention. I don't think that just for the sake of change, you need to modify the parameter from default.
The smae is true for the OPEN_CURSORS as well. The value is required to be changed if you are seeing an error about maximum opened cursor exceeding from the set value. Generally , a value of 2000 is enough for most of the systems but again, that may depend on site to site and surely enough , you need to check yours befoe playing around.

  • Oracle-validated rpm and ulimit values

    OS: Oracle Linux 5.6 (VirtualBox)
I'm somewhat puzzled over the Oracle 11gR2 installation instruction and the "oracle-validated" rpm package.
According to the Oracle installation instruction for Linux at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e16763/pre_install.htm#BABIAIED
The following values are recommended minimum:
    oracle soft nproc 2047
    oracle hard nproc 16384
    oracle soft nofile 1024
    oracle hard nofile 65536
oracle soft stack 10240 (32768 KB at most)
The oracle-validated package modifies /etc/security/limits.conf as following:
    oracle soft nproc 131072
    oracle hard nproc 131072
    oracle soft nofile 131072
    oracle hard nofile 131072
    oracle soft core unlimited
    oracle hard core unlimited
    oracle soft memlock 50000000
    oracle hard memlock 50000000
From what I understand, these values are maximum limits. I assume the "oracle-validated" package is not just only for Oracle 11g, and the Oracle 11g documentation recommends values, assuming you do not want to set it to unlimited? Is this correct?
Btw, the Oracle supplied $ORACLE_HOME/bin/osh utility to check and raise the ulimit to the maximum, actually sets ulimit to 1056837 with the oracle-validated package installed, but it is not run unless ulimit does not return "unlimited" or is less than 2113674. The osh utility is run by oraenv.

It seems there is no real answer to it, or there is no issue as such. I'm marking this thread as answered. I have come to the following conclusion:
Oracle-validated configures /etc/security/limits.conf which sets the upper limits per login. It is up to the user to decide the actual limits. The Oracle installation instructs to set ulimit -u 16384 -n 65536 for the Oracle user, which is certainly within the upper limits of limits.conf.
I notice however that the default stack size is smaller than recommended. i.e. 8192.
    /etc/profile (add ulimit -s)
    if [ $USER = "oracle" ]; then
       if [ $SHELL = "/bin/ksh" ]; then
          ulimit -u 16384
          ulimit -n 65536
          ulimit -s 10240
       else
          ulimit -u 16384 -n 65536 ulimit -s 10240
       fi
fiI think setting the values to unlimited is probably not the best idea.

  • Optimal value for shmmax and shmall

    Hi Experts,
Am new to the database administration side. Need help/suggestions from you all. My requirement is narrated below:
I was going the kernel parameter for oracle 10gr2. But I have a doubt the following two parameters.
    kernel.shmall=2097152 (Default)
    kernel.shmmax=2147483648 (Default)
Also I know that this is the recommended value for these two parameters. But just want to check if I have physical RAM of 4GB then what should be the optimal value for these parameter.
Also can anyone suggest how to set the optimal value for these parameter.
    Thanks

You can always set to the "Install" size and after it completes reduce them. You can move them down 25 to 30 percent in most cases.
The default size for SHMALL in RHEL 3/4 and 2.1 is 2097152 which is also Oracle's recommended minimum setting for 9i and 10g on x86 and x86-64 platforms. In most cases this setting should be sufficient since it means that the total amount of shared memory available on the system is 2097152*4096 bytes (shmall*PAGE_SIZE) which is 8 GB. PAGE_SIZE is usually 4096 bytes unless you use Big Pages or Huge Pages which supports the configuration of larger memory pages.
SHMMAX should not exceed 4294967295 on a 32-bit system. On x86-64 platforms, SHMMAX can be much larger than 4GB since the virtual address space is not limited by 32 bits.
If SHMMAX is too small, you can get error messages like :
    ORA-27123
I almost always go with the recommended settings even on tiny 1GB systems.
With a 4GB system these probably are not worth changing.

Does anyone know what a good AGP driving value for the Radeon 8500LE would be? I used to have a Tyan Trinity board and a Geforce 2 MX video card. There were optimal settings Tyan supplied to customers for their particular video cards. IS there anything here like that???

There is no recommended values by either ATI or MSI. But I use "EA", so far so good.

  • TemplateConfigTool vs. Recommended Parameters

    Hello,
We have implemented a NW '04 SPS15 landscape and used the Template Configuration Tool to apply the appropriate settings on the J2EE.  Just before the Go-Live checks I noticed that the Dispatcher and Server, Manager ==> ThreadManager settings are not what are recommended in the presentation "Fine Tune the Performance of your SAP Portal".
    For example,
The presentation shows that the ThreadManager should be:
    InitialThreadCount = 100
    MaxThreadCount = 200
    MinThreadCount = 100
Although the base installation parameters were slightly different from that of the presentations listed "defaults", I now question the changes that were implemented when we ran the Template Configuration Tool with the Portal.zip configuration file...
I have adjusted the ThreadManager settings to that of the recommended values in the presentation but I am not sure if:
    a) I should keep those settings or are they specificly set by the Tool?
    b) I should review the old tuning documentation and check to see what is recommended vs. current
I cannot find other documentation on the tuning parameter requirements for J2EE running a portal.  Maybe I am missing something?  I was depending on the Tool for the recommended parameters.
Any suggestions or ideas are welcomed.
    Judson

    Hi Paul,
I will issue points but I want you to know that there are many differences in the configuration applied byt he Template Configuration Tool that are not recommended by SAP for a go-live check. I am not sure if it's the "check" process/software or the Portal.ZIP file for the Template Config Tool - but they are not in-synch.
Mind you - they are not that far out - but again, this is a tool that one would eventually "trust" as the ZIP files are expected to be up-to-date with the best performance parameters... (I guess).
    But thanks very much anyway,
An example is that the ThreadManager settings (min/max/change) are set to 40 using the Tool, 100/200/100 (respectively) for the tuning presentation and finally, 20/20/20 for the go-live check... (confusing but implemented)
    Kind regards,
    Judson

  • Recommendations for HRRCF00_DOC_UPLOAD (e-recruitment)

    Hi Experts,
    I am implementing
    CHECK_ATTACH_FILE_TYPE
    CHECK_ATTACH_FILE_SIZE
    CHECK_NUMBER_OF_ATTACH
    of the BADI HRRCF00_DOC_UPLOAD.
Can anyone give me a suggestion on recommended values for these?
Also, when checking file type, is it better to extract the extension from the filename and do my check against that, or is it better to use the MIME_TYPE?
    Thanks

    Hi Mike!
I did not find your BADI in the system I currently have access (maybe a release or installed package problem) - but still I like to give you a hint.
There is a class CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES with the method FILE_GET_SIZE. At least for a path/filename to a local file you can get the attributes of the file with this function.

  • Need help with clickbios ii terminolgy and values. Z77A-GD65 / 3770k

    Hello All
I recently purchased a Z77A-GD65 board and after searching I've found the differences in terminology between this and my previous Asus board but still have a couple of settings I cant find any info on.
    System Specs:
    motherboard: msi z77a-gd65
    cpu: intel 3770k
    ram: corsair vengeance 2133mhz 1.5v
    psu: corsair 850w
First things first is I believe I am running in turbo oc mode. I've selected the oc genie tab on the center right of the bios screen and proceeded to change settings there. With cpu voltage on auto and vdroop set to 50% at 4.6ghz. (I'll try and get screenshots of bios settings soon)
The following are the terms I need help with:
    In the my oc genie section;
     1. Long duration power limit
     2. Long duration maintained
     3. Short duration power limit
    In the main overclocking section;
     4. Digital Compensation level (not in owners manual, options auto/high)
     5. Cpu core ocp expander (enabled for overclock 4.5ghz+?)
    In the CPU Features section;
     6. long duration power limit w (does "w" stand for watts?)
     7. long duration maintained s   (does "s" stand for seconds?)
     8. short duration power limit
     9. primary plane current limit a  (does "a" stand for amps?)
    10. secondary plane current limit
    11. primary plane turbo power limit
    12. secondary plane turbo power
I know those are a lot of settings, but would appreciate any simple definitions as to what they do and recommended values for mild overclocking (4.5-4.80)
Also on my previous board (Asus P8P67 Pro) my 3770k was stable in prime95 for 18 hrs at 4.5ghz fixed 1.155v with only ram timings put in manually and LLC set to extreme.(or whatever max is called in asus bios) Voltage was fixed and everything else was defailts.

Well I'm back.  Been digging around for a few days and found some answers to my questions.
First things first s that for some reason I could not adjust voltage values with the + or - symbols. Clearing cmos did not help this. I had to reflash the bios to get this functionality back as well as clearing cmos before and after the flash.
So I figured out the values in the oc genie section are the same as the normal section but only used when your using the oc genie. (numbers 1-3)
Digital compensation level and ocp expander should be set to high and enabled respectively when going for higher overclocks. (4 and 5)
Now for the rest of my questions ( 6 through 12) I have found suggested settings and some info after hours and hours of searching but still have a couple of questions about them.
Long/short duration power limit, and primary/secondary plane turbo limit. I see suggestion settings of 250 or 255. I take it this is simply max supplied watts to the chip? If so why the 250/255 values? Is that the highest the board will give? Is plane turbo limit related to the enhanced turbo stated and how much wattage can be drawn there while the other limit is for any non turbo frequencies?
Long duration maintained, I've seen 60 suggested a lot. Why is this?
There's not an over abundance of info on these boards as compared to asus so it seems info is a little less documented and video tutorials explaining things are next to none.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Hi how can i increase my parameter values in my system

    Dear Experts ,
here my functional consultants gets below shotdump and how can i solve that an error
    Runtime Errors         TSV_TNEW_BLOCKS_NO_ROLL_MEMORY
    Short text
No roll storage space of length 1802248 available for internal storage.
    hat can you do?
Try to find out (e.g. by targetted data selection) whether the
transaction will run with less main memory.
If there is a temporary bottleneck, execute the transaction again.
If the error persists, ask your system administrator to check the
       following profile parameters:
       o  ztta/roll_area            (1.000.000 - 15.000.000)
Classic roll area per user and internal mode
usual amount of roll area per user and internal mode
       o  ztta/roll_extension       (10.000.000 - 500.000.000)
Amount of memory per user in extended memory (EM)
       o  abap/heap_area_total      (100.000.000 - 1.500.000.000)
Amount of memory (malloc) for all users of an application
server. If several background processes are running on
one server, temporary bottlenecks may occur.
Of course, the amount of memory (in bytes) must also be
available on the machine (main memory or file system swap).
              Caution:
The operating system must be set up so that there is also
enough memory for each process. Usually, the maximum address
              space is too small.
Ask your hardware manufacturer or your competence center
              about this.
In this case, consult your hardware vendor
       abap/heap_area_dia:        (10.000.000 - 1.000.000.000)
Restriction of memory allocated to the heap with malloc
              for each dialog process.
       Parameters for background processes:
       abap/heap_area_nondia:        (10.000.000 - 1.000.000.000)
Restriction of memory allocated to the heap with malloc
              for each background process.
       Other memory-relevant parameters are:
       em/initial_size_MB:         (35-1200)
Extended memory area from which all users of an
application server can satisfy their memory requirement.
Note which actions and input led to the error.
For further help in handling the problem, contact your SAP administrator
You can use the ABAP dump analysis transaction ST22 to view and manage
termination messages, in particular for long term reference.
