Changes from a Pages document to a DOC file "re numbering" ..additional information

The iMac is an OSX version 10.8.5, Pages is 09 version 4.1
e.g. writing minutes of a meeting in Pages below:
Old Business
1.
2.
New Business
1.
2.
After conversion to DOC file this is what it looks like:
Old Business
1.
2.
New Business
3.
4.

Using Pages ’09 v4.1, I can only duplicate your export results if I choose to ignore that the Pages numbering default is to continue from previous — thus your source would need to show a 1 - 4 number series before export. You can rectify this, by positioning the pointer at the 3 list item, and choosing Start at 1, as shown below. When used in this manner, what you see, is what you get in the resultant Word .doc document.
The other approach is to just type “Old Business” followed by a return. Then, without using the List tab from the Text Inspector, simply type your own numbered items and content followed by a hard return. Now, you control the numbering yourself. In kind, “New Business” would follow, again with purposely typed number sequence. That exports to Word .doc nicely too. Doesn't matter whether you have Automatically Detect Lists enabled in Pages preferences or not.

  • How can I take data from multiple pages documents and put them into a numbers table?

I produce invoices in pages, with dates, invoice numbers, references and amounts due. I want to take all this data from multiple documents and transfeer it to a single numbers table. Is this possible and if so, how do I do it. I know I can do it the other way round with mail merge but I can't figure out how to do it this way round?
    Thanks,
    Keith

The data is spread throughout a pages document in specific areas here's a copy of an invoice for you to have a look at.

I need to be able to send it to a PC in order to print it.

Hard to say what is happening without examining the file.
If you like click on my blue name and email me both the .pages file and the the .pdf you have made from it.

ps It would help to say what version of Pages you are using and on what you are running it. iOS or Mac and what version.

  • How can I completely remove pages from a Pages document?

I had a 44 page Pages document, 95MB in size (it had a lot of TIFFs in it). I deleted all but 9 pages, removing 15 of the 18 TIFFs, but found the document was still 94.7MB. Huh? I cracked open the document using Pacifist, and found a folder titled ".iWTrash" that is 78.4MB in size, containing 4 blank-icon documents with numbers (00000001, etc) for names. This is apparently the material from all the deleted pages. Why is it being kept? Is there any way I can get rid of it, reduce the  file to the ~16MB it ought to be?
    TIA,
    Andrew Main

What action did you take to "delete" the 35 pages and 15 TIFFs?''
I selected them in the thumbnail sidebar and pressed the Delete key. The second time I did it I noticed there is a "Delete Page..." command in the Edit menu, so I used that. Which is what the Pages Manual says to do. In both cases, a dialog appeared asking if I was sure I wanted to delete page XX, and assuring me that "The section containing this page will be deleted." I don't have any sections in the document (it's all one), but I clicked the Delete button and the pages disappeared—but as I said, the document remained the same size, and when I pried it open with Pacifist I saw there was 78+MB of mystery data in it, in a folder titled ".iWTrash". The leading dot makes it invisible I guess, but I don't see why since it's hidden inside the document anyway.
As I recall, Pages documents were originally .zip files or something easily opened, but I thought I'd read that had changed. The contextual menu's "Open With" gives three possibilities: Archive Utility (which makes the 94.7MB Pages file into a 2.2MB .cpgz file, which when double-clicked recreates the 94.7MB original—now that's compression!); Pacifist (which opens the file so I can see what's in it); and The Unarchiver (which converts the Pages file into a folder of its contents, including the ".iWTrash" folder which is invisible in the Finder because of its leading dot.
Is this a WP document or a PL document?
    It's a PL document.
I suspect you had floating images in a Word Processing document and deleted the text. The images are still there on the removed pages, if you do a series of page breaks they should reappear on the additional pages where you can delete them directly.
Well, no, it's a Page Layout document, and I deleted the pages, not the items on them (half had text, half had TIFF graphics). I tried adding blank pages back into the document, but they're blank; the text and graphics don't appear on them.
But all that data is still in the file, now in "bulk" form, doing nobody any good.
Okay, so I took the 9-page (94MB) document, with the 78MB ".iWTrash" folder in it, and deleted four more pages. But this time I first deleted the material on the pages, then deleted the (now blank) pages. Suddenly the document is a mere 6.6MB! I opened it up, and it has only the material that's visible in the document, no ".iWTrash" folder. The other 78MB has disappeared also. Seems kind of tedious if you have to first delete the material on the pages before deleting the pages; but maybe if you delete all the pages (with the material still on them) but one, then delete the material on the last page and then delete that page, it'll get rid of the whole mess? Complicated, and of course none of this is explained in the manual. Nor can I see any logical reason for it.
Another experiment: I took the 9-page (94MB) document, with the 78MB ".iWTrash" folder in it, and deleted four more pages, by simply selecting them and deleting them (without deleting the material on them first). Now the file is 12.5MB, and Pacifist reveals it has an .iWTrash folder of 5.5MB, i.e. approximately the material that was deleted this time, but it's lost the 78MB that was deleted the last time.
Well, this is all lots of fun, but it still makes no sense. If it's some kind of "dummy's backup", I can't see any way to make any use of it. Otherwise it just takes up space to no use.
The other possibility is images on captured master pages.
Do PL documents have master pages? On which you can place elements that will appear on all pages (such as, say, crop marks)? Seems to me my so-far brief perusal of the Pages Manual indicates not. Which doesn't make sense.
    Thanks, everyone, for your responses.

How can I print an envelope from a Pages document?

Not from a document, but there are envelope templates in Pages you can use.

  • How do I copy a page from one Pages document to another using Pages 5.0?

I posted this question on another page, and haven't recieved an answer to it yet. However I have found a temporary solution, so I am posting this here in case anyone else has a similar problem.
The issue here is that I have just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Maverick (10.9.1), and my Pages also upgraded (to 5.0.1), altering my Pages documents. This is the issue, as as far as I can see the new Pages does not offer some of the basic needs that the old Pages did! In other words it is worse than the previous version.
Using the upgraded new Pages 5.0.1 seems to result in some major editing problems for me. If you upgrade, make sure you KEEP the old version of Pages 09 (v 4.3). That is what has saved me!  If you have the same problems I have had - explained below, you will still be able to close the new version and open your Pages document in the old version, provided it is not a new Pages document. If it is, it will be possible to export it as a Pages 09 document and edit properly.
After upgrading to the new Pages 5.0.1, when I open documents in Pages and try and copy a section from one document to another (easy before using the thumbnails) many of the Menu items previously available are visible but appear faded and are not possible, including Insert>Section Break/Page Break/Page Number and Edit>Cut/Copy/Delete/Undo/Redo
This even happens if I duplicate the Pages document and try and do any of these from the Duplicate (which should be an easily editable copy).
My solution has been to simply open all Pages documents that Iwant to edit (or may want to edit in future) in the old Pages app (v 4.3), which I never got rid of. That has meant I can continue editing and copying a section (of 1 or more pages) from one Pages document to another.
If anyone reading this has figured out a way to edit Pages documents using the new version 5.0.1 please post an explanation, and I will try it!

And there are those who don't like me repeating the same message over and over again in this forum!
Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5.
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=3527487677f0c 6fa05b6297cd00f8eb9&mforum=iworktipsntrick
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5, after Exporting your files to Pages '09, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • How to drag sections/pages from separate Pages document into current document using Pages 5

I want to clarify whether or not Pages 5 allows users to drag individual pages and/or sections from separate Pages documents into the user's current working document. This feature was available in Pages 4 but seems to have been eliminated in the upgraded version.

You can take this to be the answer for most things Pages 5…
    … No!
    Use Pages '09 instead.

  • I can not export Pages document into a Word file

Please help! I have researched many feeds in regards to my issue. None of the suggestions seem to work. I need to export a Pages document into a Word file and get the error messge "an unknown error has occured". I have attempted to "Save as" and export directly from the file menu. All of my fonts have been validated. Not sure what my other options are. Can anyone give any insight? Thanks

In case if the files are missing for the once you have in your book module they can have issues exporting as PDF or JPEG.
Please check the same and replace the files which are missing or attach the same and then try exporting the same.

  • Pages error when opening .doc file

I've recently installed Snow Leopard, but I'm still using Pages 2/iWork '06.
Before I installed SL, I had the same version of Pages installed for my own work as well NeoOffice to open any .docs I was sent.
Although I normally used NeoOffice for those .docs, Pages would still open any .doc file, but would normally not display it correctly.
Since installed SL, I've also installed Pages, but not NeoOffice. I want to open a .doc file with Pages, but when I try to do so, I get an error message, which reads:
Pages quit unexpectedly while using SLCompatibility plug-in.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
If I click 'Reopen', Pages opens, but the .doc file doesn't. If I click 'Ignore' (another button), Pages closes.
The same error and crash occurs whatever .doc file I try to open. It's not just one file.
I don't know what SLCompatibility plug-in is, those SL could be Snow Leopard.
Does anyone know what the problem is and how I can fix it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jonathan.

    Thanks for the reply.
I'm running 10.6.2 -- I'm not sure what you mean by 'combo' update, but I updated my new installation of SL yesterday with all the updates that software update could find.
    My Pages is version 2.0.2.
I deleted the specified file, then repaired permissions, but I'm still having exactly the same problem.
    Some .doc files say:
Pages quit unexpectedly while using SLCompatibility plug-in.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
    Some others say:
The document "xxxxxx.doc" couldn't be opened
Do you have any more ideas what's going wrong?
EDIT: Should I remove the Arial .tff fonts which have minor problems according to Font Book? I don't know much about Font Book. If I remove them, will I still be able to use Arial? I don't want to permanently delete Arial.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan.

Try adding .epub to the end of the name.
I assume you are aware that to open an .epub file you need a special app, not TextEdit or Pages, right?

  • Installed iWork '09 on MacBook running OSX 10.7.2 and Pages won't open .doc files. Why?

I just recently installed iWork '09 on MacBook running OSX 10.7.2 and Pages won't open .doc files.
I did a search looking for a solution in the forums and here are the actions I've taken:
    1) Made sure the files were't read/write protected.
    2) Restarted the computer.
    3) Made sure all the program files were in the correct folder.
    4) Reinstalled the program.
Pages won't read .doc files that were originally Pages files and exported as .docs
It also won't read .doc files that were created using a relatively recent version of Office.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
    Please help.

If it's a doc created with the late Office 2011, it's not really surprising.
The importer embedded in iWork application was delivered in january 2009 and didn't evolve.
For this reason, it's unaware of new features delivered with Office 2011.
    Better try with LibreOffice.

  • How do I change an existing pages document to landscape from portrait?

I have a Pages document that I built in a vertical (portrait) orientation. Is there a way to change it to
landscape after it is complete? I don't want to start over because it's is 8 pages long and includes images
and text. I understand I will need to adjust somewhat once it's rotated but I'd rather do that than start all over.
    I'm using Pages version 4.1.

Menu > File > Page Setup… > Click on the landscape icon
Adjust your headers, footers margins etc in the Document Inspector.

  • Server does not allow changes to a pages document from one user to the next

When one user creates a pages document and then saves that document to the server, a second user who wishes to use that document and make changes can not do so. They can find the document, open the document, and read it, but can not write to the document.
What is the trick to create a pages document so all network users can make changes to the document?
    AZ

I hope that the OP will not  do that because, as I already wrote several times, it's a perfect way to kill the document.
iWork applications aren't designed for cooperative work.
