Changes in Excel cannot be saved when open from SharePoint.

Hi,
I use SharePoint to access my documents library. When I open an Excel spreadsheet and do some changes, save the changes and everything seems to be fine. I close the Excel file and open it again. Surprise! my changes are gone. I repeated the same action many
times but I got the same result, no changes saved. I did not get any error message.
There is no versioning and not check out requirement in the Library settings. I do use IE v9.
I'll appreciate any help.

Are you opening that Excel file to make changes in Excel client application or in browser (Excel Web App)? By your question it seems that you are using a browser to make changes and saving the excel file, since you mention you are using IE 9.
If that is the case then please execute the below steps and recheck.
1. Clean cookies in your IE 9 browser.
2. Use other browsers to open the Excel file in Excel Web App and check if same issue occurs.
3. If you are having only Internet Explorer(IE) on your system, you can
reset IE.
4. Try to upload a new document and make changes again to see if the same issue occurs.

This forum is for Team Foundation Server, I'd like to know whether you use TFS and if you have tried on other files. If you don't use TFS, you can open a new thread in SharePoint forum for a better response.
If you have TFS integrate with SharePoint, then you can use a newer version of IE to have a try, or check on other machines. Also confirm whether your account has the permission to edit the file. Elaborate more details about your scenario if the problem
persists.

Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.

Cannot find picture when transferring from Aperture to PSE 11
I have an older version of PSE and when I transferred a picture from Aperture to PSE9 it would open PSE9 and show the picture.
I set the Preps in Aperture for PSE 11 and the PSE 11 opens but no picture in the box or photo bin or in the top left "open".
I changed the Aperture setting to the PSE Organizer and the same thing happened Organizer open BUT there was no picture to be found.
In Aperture it shows the file being transferred.
I looked in the PSE 11 preps and file but could not find anything.
The fact that it opens the PSE 11 app tells me it is being recognized but the picture (file) is going somewhere else.

Make sure you are linking to the application in Support Files and not to an alias.

Iphone 4s new handset is damaged when opened from pack

The new iphone4s handset is damanged when opened from pack. The phone was ordered online. What is reson for the same, is it due to lack of quality check.

I suggest you take that up with the carrier that delivered the package. They are responsible for delivery and if it was damaged in delivery, they are responsible. If it doesn't seem the damage occurred because of shipping damage, then contact Apple, describe the problem and they will advise you what to do. Things happen, however, since we are users here just like you we cannot tell you how to handle the situation. I certainly can't tell you the reason it was damaged.

Photos not opening in PS when opened from Bridge. [was:Question]

Photo's not opening in PS when opened from bridge, this has been happening for the last few weeks. I will be working in PS and opening from bridge OK, then suddenly I will open about 6 photo's but they only show the tabs at the top of the screen but no photos. I have to close PS and reopen before they show. Can anyone help it is driving me crazy. Tks

Small Window when opened from UWL

We are using HCM Form & Processses and our forms is approved by multiple levels
We notice that when forms are opened from Universal worklist, the window to view form appears in a 1 inch box (Impossible to view) This is also specific to certain users.. Most of other users see the form is launched in a window where we can see the content clearly.
Has anyone faced / resolved such issues? What in client machine can control the window size when opened from UWL?

Forms Opening is Very slow when opened from Client PC's.

All,
We are running forms application in 10.1.2.0 application server. We have a peculiar issue of slowness while opening forms from client PC's and not while opening from application server itself.
1) When opening the form from a Windows 7 PC it takes around 25 seconds
2) When opening the form from a Windows XP PC it takes around 15 seconds
3) When opening the form from the application server itself it took less than 3 seconds .
In essence all forms when opened from application server are opening very fast and when opened from client PC's it takes undue time. What might be the reason for the same, can anyone help us and we are pondering over this issue for some time. What are the files of interest to be visited for these kind of issues. We enabled tracing level 5 in JRE and could not find any thing fishy over it.
Request application server and forms experts to participate and help us to resolve.

Even if it's a generic issue you need to break it down in smaller parts to actually get a clue what's causing your problem. By now there is nothing we can rule out as the only thing we know is that it's slow on the client PC's.
Building a small dummy form as suggested by Andreas is a good starting point. If the performance is also bad for a small form with one block you can rule out that it has anything to do with forms and it's caused by e.g. your network. If the small form performs well rebuild one of your forms step by step and do tests for each step. By that you should find what's causing troubles.
What you can also take a look at are network roundtrips: You have to set the console window of your forms, and enable networkstats in your formsweb.cfg
networkStats=yesA typical cause for (unnecessary) roundtrips are e.g. calls to the synchronize built in or timers. If you are using Javabeans you should also take a look at them. If you are looking at your network traffic wireshark is your friend ;).

Error -50. Changes is iTunes cannot be saved.

I keep getting "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occured (-50)."
Any change I make in iTunes, like changing the name of a playlist, does not stick upon restarting the application.
Is there a corrupt file somewhere. How do I fix this to be able to make changes to iTunes? I'm unable to download from the store also.

I been having the 'Unknown Error -50' problem ever since installing the latest (V7.3) update. I wonder if I can roll back to 7.2? When 7.3 started up it said it was making changes to the library. Since it is an 'Unknown' error it is my guess the problem is with iTunes itself.

Excel files with fields linked to other excel files take a long time to open from SharePoint library

Trying to track a problem for a user.
Most of the documents opened from our SharePoint libraries appear to open in a timely fashion.
But...one user has noticed an issue, and I just noticed something with her files that are a little less common than other stuff we've seen.
she has a lot of pricelist excel files. there are some master price list files, and then other files that link to fields from within the master files.
the files that contain links to other files appear to be the ones that open very slowly.
the files are being opened via excel itself, not the owa viewer or editor.
is there a trick to setting up either the library, the site, site collection or web app... or some client-side setting that affects how quickly/efficiently excel will open files that link to other excel files shared within sharepoint?

According to your description, my understanding is that when you click a hyperlink which redirect to other files , the file are opened very slowly via excel client.
How about you download the same file and open it using excel client? If it is opened quite fast, the issue should be caused by some third-party add-ins in the office program or antivirus soft.

'access denied' when opening from Office

Hello,
I've experienced this 'access denied' message too. Now I realized that when opening AdobeReader manually all works fine.
But when Reader is closed and is opened by Office after saving as PDF file - it still shows this error message.
There's nothing wrong with the file - when opening manually from inside of Reader.
Is it a problem with commandline execution?
I'm sorry for any problems you got - especially from reading my english...

Wav on ext hdd won't play in audition when opened from file explorer

Two computers:
Lenovo thinkpad T440s with Win 8.1
Dell Precision M4600 with Win 7
Both running Audition CS5.5
Two portable USB3 external hard drives
WD Passport Ultra
WD Elements
Same problem on both computers and drives:
When I try and open and play a wav file in Audition directly from File/Windows Explorer (either by setting Audition as default prog or by right click>open with), Audition launches, but file does not appear or play. No wave form visible, just empty editor.
However it will play from external drive if I open it from within Audition (file>open).
It also plays if I copy the same file to the internal hard drive of either computer and open from File/Windows Explorer.
It also plays from external drive if I set Window Media Player as default prog. and open from File/Windows Explorer.
I would greatly appreciate any ideas on how to play a wav stored on an external drive by double clicking on it.

Which type of files have the issue? Are they also the Word and Excel files? From which client the users access the files on the server? If it is Windows 7 client, you could disable the Preview Pane and the Details Pane in Windows Explorer, on the client machine
to check the results.

Excel Services/Excel Web App does not support password protected Excel sheets. Your only option is to open in Excel client.

Url used to show in the url box when opening from a shortcut or email, but now it's not there. If I refresh the page it is. How do I get this back the way I like it?

The url of the website that I'm visiting used to show in the url box when I opened from a shortcut or email. But not it's not there unless I refresh the page. I've looked and haven't found a way to set this so that it works like it used to. I liked being able to click in the address bar and copy the link, or even to look there and see where I am.

I'm unable to check it in safe mode because the only time it happens is when I click a link and have not firefox open. For example if I would click a link in my email right now, it would open in another tab and show the address of the link I clicked. But if I didn't not have this window open and clicked alink, it would open a new window and I wouldn't be able to see the url.

Viewinging RAW files as thumbnail images when opening from Photoshop - not working?

I have just installed Photoshop CC on my new Windows 8.1 OS computer and when I try to open one of my RAW files into Photoshop from the Photoshop 'open file' menu item I can only see file icons rather than the thumbnail pictures that are in the folders? I can view the thumbnails just fine from Bridge but not when opening directly from Photoshop? I can view all jpg's but no RAW files (both Canon and Sony RAW). I tried installing the Microsoft Camera Codec for Windows 8.1 but it won't install - error message says "not intended for this operating system" in spite of the fact that it explicitly states it is for Windows 8.1? Any ideas on what to do to be able to view the thumbnail images?
