Changes To Mac Mail

I just downloaded the latest OS X. 5 security feature and now my Mac Mail combines messages or repeat messages with a number before it, plus it shows you a full logging of all the similar message headings within the message.
Anybody know what the heck is going on?

Studio Todd,
In Mail, do you have View>Organize by thread checked? If so, uncheck it.

I was having trouble sending to hotmail accounts from my Earthlink account, they had me go into Mac Mail preferences and make changes (because they claimed it was Mac Mail's fault, even though the hotmail error code said it's because Earthlink is blocked by hotmail), now Mac Mail doesn't work AT ALL - any help changing the settings back to correct Mac Mail settings? I can provide a transcript of the entire tech chat session, if that will help...

both apostrophes are used correctly, thanks
doesn't = does not (this is called a contraction)
    it's = it is
    Mac Mail's fault = possessive
any help with the actual issue? thanks!

  • Changes in Mac mail?

I'm using Mac OS 10.10.2 with Mac mail version 8.2.  In Mac mail under preferences, viewing, show message headers, there is now only the choice of Default or Custom.  How can I get back the choice for all lines of all headers?  Different question, I have two mail accounts one for me and one for spouse.  For me the Junk Mail filtering works OK.  However, on the spouse account, it appears that much more spam is getting through.  Both accounts use the same Centurylink incoming and outgoing mail servers.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

No, that just changes the number of lines in the message itself that you see in the preview panel.  My question is the next line in the Viewing dialog:  "Show message headers....."  I think I'm going to have to go back and read all the Read me's for all the recent updates to Yosemite.
    Thank you.

  • Why is the "From:" field being changed in Mac Mail.  I have multiple gmail accounts setup and it seems to change the "FROM" field even though I've selected which account to use to send the email.

    So
I've got multiple gmail accounts setup in Mac Mail.
Somtimes when I send or forward emails, it uses the wrong FROM field even though I'm declaring
    specifically which account to use.
This becomes apparent when the person replies to my message and it goes to the wrong account

Check you accounts in Mail and make sure each account has the correct outgoing server address. Check the box to use only that server.
Second, go to the gmail website and in settings under the account tab, make sure you have the correct settings for replying to messages.

  • Gmail IMAP Sent  Mail folder missing in Mac Mail

I made a change in Mac Mail by using the Mailbox/Use this mailbox for Sent Mail menu item on the [Gmail] Sent Mail folder and the original
[Gmail] Sent Mail folder has vanished. It still appears in the Gmail web interface and is checked on to show up in IMAP, but it doesn't appear in Mac Mail. Sent messages to appear in the Mac Mail snet folder, which is fine but I want to [Gmail] Sent Mail folder back. I tried turning the "show in IMAP" setting in Gmail on and off and it works for other folders, but not for the "Sent Mail" folder. I also tried restoring an older copy of the com.apple.mail.plist file but that didn't work either. Any ideas how to get it back? Pop is turned off as well.

It seems this is the desired behavior in Mail, as I don't need the [Gmail] folders to appear since the mail is all in the Mac Mail folders.
Of course, this might all break again when I upgrade to Mavericks :-(

  • Mac Mail rejects valid btinternet password

Ok, first off I have looked into this problem and came across a thread from a year or two ago that was incredibly long and was ultimately locked by someone from BT, on the assumption that the problem has been fixed. Evidently this is not the case.
I have happily had my mac Mail and my iPhone receiving email from my pop3 account for around 2 years. The other day I happened across a BT Openzone network and tried to connect using my btinternet email and password, however could not do so. This is the first time I have tried to do this as I have always used the 3G network when not at home. I was sure I was using the right password and so to check, I tried to log onto the BT Yahoo website (something I have never needed to do). Again, I could not log on and so assumed I had forgotten my password. I was dubious because I don't forget passwords, but assumed I had, at some point, created a random alternative password for my mail account.
I therefore tried to reset my password but apparently failed the security questions because it asked me to call them up. I did, and the password was reset, allowing me to log onto the BT Yahoo website as well as the BT Openzone network.
Here's where it gets annoying. Upon opening up mac Mail, I was presented with the box to enter my password and thought this was perfectly logical, seeing as I had now changed it. I entered in the correct password and lo and behold, the password was rejected. Several more attempts brought me no success either.
I have looked up other people's issues on this and understand it is a frequent problem, and so tried some of their solutions such as deleting and recreating the account (during creation there is a warning saying it can't connect to the server), and resetting the router (no help). One thing that did work is logging into the BT Yahoo website which fixes the issue on my mac Mail client and allows me to send/receive emails again....strange.
A lot of people say they have had this issue on and off in the past few years but that's where I differ. I have had mail working perfectly since I set it up. The only thing that has changed from before to now, is that I changed my account password. Changing the mac mail password to the same one should mean it is in exactly the same situation as before.
Does anyone have any useful information to help remedy this issue (preferably someone from BT themselves?)
    Thanks

I found this on the Apple support forum. It might be worth a try:
"I have a solution that has lasted a couple of days for me so far. I hope I am not judging the success too soon!
I have just changed my yahoo password to contain only lower case and numbers. I haven't had another failure since!
The reason I tried this is because I only started getting the problem when I changed my password a week ago. That new password had upper and lower case letters as well as numbers and the problem started to occur the following day. My previous password had had only lower case letters and numbers. Nothing else I did had any effect and I observed all the same symptoms that others reported on the many support threads"
I have no idea why, but I think this may have just solved my problem. Got rid of the capitals in my password and changed the mail setting accordingly, and so far it hasn't rejected it. My guess is there's some issues between the encryption algorithms used by mac mail and the BT servers, and capital letters screw that up somehow.
Any chance you could link me to that apple forum where you found that post? Thanks for your help! Strange fix, but seems to have worked

  • Mac Mail from address-how do I change the default?

In Mac Mail, when the form comes up, often the email address that comes up is not the account I want to use.  How can I edit this list?  Change the order, or even delete some of the options?
    Thanks,
    Hal

At one time, you could edit the list order of the accounts in Mail's account preferences, but not any more. You can still set the order of accounts in Mail's sidebar in the inbox. Click on an account and drag it to the order you want.
For the list in the composing tab, that is to set the account to send new messages from. I'm not sure i understand why you feel you need to change the order of that list. Either specify the default account to always use, or choose the option of selected account. Then highlight the account under the inbox of the sidebar that you want to send a message from.  Or, show the server list in new message window and change the sending account there.

  • How do i change date format in mac mail?

how do i change the date format in mac mail?

I just had this problem and I already was using "classic layout".
I went back to mac mail and at the top, it says, MAIL, FILE, EDIT, VIEW (etc). In VIEW, in the drop down, one of the options is ORGANIZE BY CONVERSATION ..I saw that mine was CHECKED.
I unchecked it and now all the emails are fine again, showing one by one, as opposed to all my emails from one client getting lumped together.

  • I have been stung by a WhatsApp scam on my email account and changed my password.  All mail sent is held in the outbox with actually sending. gmail account in Google works  OK. How to restore Mac mail?

I have a one year old MacBook Pro, using Yosemite OS. In my Mac mail account I use gmail. I have recently been stung by an e- mail scam using WhatsApp. When I changed my password I was able to move on with mail on my phone and laptop. I now find that all the mails I sent yesterday have got stuck in my Outbox and have not actually been sent. i have since opened up my gmail account via Google and have pasted i the messages and successfully sent from there.
How can I now restore my Mac Mail on the laptop to send my mail?
I would interested to hear views.

    Hello Nicholas,
It sounds like you are suddenly unable to send email from the Mail app but can log into your webmail and send the emails without issue. I recommend you use the following article, to help figure out what the issue is, named:

  • When I forward an email from my Mac Mail, the body of the email I just forwarded shows as an attachment in the recipients outlook.  Is there a way to change this so my clients don't have to open an attachment to read something that I forwarded to them?

When I forward an email from my Mac Mail, the body of the email I just forwarded shows as an attachment in the recipients outlook.  Is there a way to change this so my clients don't have to open an attachment to read something that I forwarded to them?

Open Terminal in Utilties and copy/paste
This will send the attachment embedded inline. (This works in Snow Leopard, but not sure about Lion. Do a test first. If it doesn't work, just google "send attachment embedded + Lion." You don't actually have to send the message to see how it will appear.)
    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing 0
To reverse the setting, change the 0 to a 1
However, whether this will work or not will depend on what the e-mail client on the receiver's end does with it.

  • Change full name in iCloud mac mail

How do I change a Full Name in iCloud mac mail?

If you created a new iCloud account it would have a new associated iCloud email account.  You wouldn't be able to move your current @icloud.com address to the new account.
Just to double-check, after quitting (Command-Q) and re-opening Mail, did you start an new message and click the down-arrow next to From to see if the new sender name was available from the drop-down list (see image below)?  If so, you might try signing out of iCloud entirely.  To do this, go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts, restart your Mac, then sign back in and test Mail again.  (This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your Mac, but not from iCloud.  Your iCloud data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in.)
