Changes to PDF creation.

If Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional is used to create a file, is it possible for somebody using Reader 9 to make changes to the file and send back?  Or, does the person trying to make changes need Acrobat as well?

That depends on what type of "changes" you are talking about.
If the file has been specially enabled using Acrobat, they will be able to fill out form fields, add notations or use the typewriter tool then save those changes.
If you are talking about going in and changing existing text then no, Reader users cannot do that. In fact, it's not even a good idea and usually a pain in the hind end to use Acrobat. It's always best to edit the original file then create a new PDF.

  • Word crashes mid PDF creation - Word 2003 Acrobat 9.3.0

I have a new PC and a fresh clean install of CS5 Design Permuim, including Arobat 9. The organisation is still using Office 2003 and no upgrade path in sight for that. Myself and several colleagues with the same software profile are now experiencing frequent problems with Word crashing mid PDF creation.
This has always been an issue with the ocassional Word file in Acrobat 8, but Distiller always worked as an alternative - NOT this time!
PDF Maker gives no error message, just that Word has encounted a problem and needs to close.
Distiller produces the following log message, then freezes completely. I then have to force quit Word to exit!
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: --nostringval-- ]%%
    Stack:
    /mF_OTF_V
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Not all documents are affected, but I can remove almost all of the content from the affected document and it still causes the error.
I have tried repairing Acrobat - no change.
One other odd symptom - after each crash, the default printer on the machine has changed to Adobe PDF.
I can successfulkly make the PDF on another machine which has not been upgraded to Acrobat 9. The rest of the settings are identical on the two machines, they are both running a standard organisation environment, with the same verion of word etc.
Can anyone suggest how to fix or at least isolate the cause of the problem?

Please update to latest Acrobat 9 release which is 9.4.2.
    Also do let us know
    a) office 2003 flavour: Standard or professional?
    b) OS flavour? Also whether it is 32bit or 64bit?
Also as you mentioned that "Not all documents are affected", so we would require any of your affected file to analyze the issue. Can you please share the file? You can use acrobat.com to share the file.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

  • White Noise showing up in images after PDF Creation

I am currently running into an issue making PDFs from InDesign CS4. Lately, our company has been getting some rather large jobs in to print and that's when this all started.
The current job is 190 pages plus cover that will be perfect bound. The client, nor I can make one large PDF from this job so we have to break it up into sections. Usually each of the PDF sections has around 20-50 pages per.
Now the issue we're running into is that on some of the pages, an image will end up with a bar or lines in it that looks like white noise. Like the image information was lost for a short period of time during the PDF creation from InDesign.
Here are two pictures of pages from separate jobs and a close up on what's going on. **Second image was from a 32 page plus cover document we have already printed.
Now in order for me to fix this issue is to just make a single page PDF of the effected pages in the document. I just wish I knew what was causing this issue so I know how to avoid it in the future. So far four jobs have been affected like this; two 32 page + cover jobs, a 64 page + cover job, and is job.
We use a Rampage Workflow system here. My PDF settings in InDesign CS4 has all compression turned off, no profiles or color conversion turned on. I keep compression turned off because it seems sometimes, vector art done in Illustrator does not seem to come out looking well when RIP'd in Rampage.
My main computer is a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 4 BG of memory running Mac OS X 10.5.8.
My current version of InDesign CS4 is 6.0.3.  If anyone has run into this problem or if anyone has any helpful hints for me, I could really use them please. If you need more information from me, I'll be happy to answer any questions.
    Thanks for all the help!
    Roc

That one has come up every now and then and has always been hardware as far as I know....  bad ram, bad cable, bad drive, bad network maybe even bad video card (?).
I see that the lines in the rotated pic are parallel with that pic, so maybe look at the machine where that pic was made and placed first, this is not definite, but you can get corruption in tiffs on machines with hardware errors and they may not be visible every time you open the file.
Although probably a bigger clue is the fact that doing singles is working better, that would make me change the ram completely, suspecting a bad module.  Also, unplug peripheral devices and see if that has any bearing.

  • Acrobat Javascript get Windows PDF creation time

Is there a way to get the Windows creation time of a PDF in Acrobat Javascript? When you copy a PDF the Windows creation time changes but the PDF creation time does not. I'm looking for a way to detect if someone copied the PDF.

I know you can get the PDF creation time through the info object but that isn't what I want. When you copy-paste a PDF in Windows the creation time of the info object doesn't change. It always stays the same so I can't detect a copy that way. I want the creation time that Windows provides. Is that possible?

You can copy the contents and paste it into a Word file. Just don't expect everything to transfer or to retain all of the formatting.

  • How do I change a PDF to a word document?

How do i change aa PDF to a word document?

In Mac preferred method (because it uses Adobe's PDF engine):
Save file as word Document (for Backup)
    Go to Print Menu
Click and hold on PDF button until context menu appears
    Choose Adobe PDF
Wait for menu to change - choose quality (this eqivelent to job options in Distiller) and turn off open with Reader (or Acrobat)
Then click okay to go to nex window item
Either use Title assigned or change (I usually remove references to Microsoft Word-, and .docx so it just shows as for example Joes.pdf),
Browse (pick out) to desired save Location.
    Click Save.
Go to location saved and open.
Notes: Expect to multiple PDF if the Word document page have switches in Page orientations.
URL links won't cme over with this method.
To have Urls to be active (except those created with the Format menu > URL)
    Do the following:
    Locate the Word Document
Locate the acrobat Icon on the Dock (similar to Start up menu on PC)
Drag the word document to the icon of Acrobat on Dock and Drop
Wait ........... You might have enough time to boil you a pot of coffee
When PDF pops up on screen save at once!
You will now have a document that will have live MailTo's and URL's except for those created with the URL wizard ( select desired word> go to Formtat menu > URL >when opens type desired URL or Mailto)
This is a 15 year old bug Adobe refuses to fix. Don't bleive the blather the put out bout the proper hook in Mac Version That's been proven as false years ago.

  • How do I get a refund?  I have tried to use this converter to change a PDF to a word document or excel document three of four times and it always fails..  I want my money back but don't see any way to communicate with Adobe.

How do I get a refund?  I have tried to use this converter to change a PDF to a word document or excel document three of four times and it always fails..  I want my money back but don't see any way to communicate with Adobe.  i really just want my money back.  Very disappointed.  Also disappointed that it is so hard to find a way to communicate with Adobe that I have to resort to asking this question in this forum.

You need to use the CHAT link in support to reach Adobe staff. Be sure you know the product name you are trying to cancel, Adobe have lots of products, several converters etc. I think it is ExportPDF you have, most likely.
