I am looking into buying a new laptop ( 16 GB Memory, 1+ TB storage with SDD, etc) would like to have several drives - c,d,e, f, etc each for separate Relational databases SQL Server version(S), Oracle, DB2 and such for my convenience. The
pre-installed laptop with Windows 8.1 Pro is in C drive. without buying another licenced copy, with the pre-installed licence, will there be any option, to partition the existing one C drive into c, d, e,f ... ? I didn't get a solid
answer talking to any friends. Please provide me any links, to look into. Thanks in advance.

Sure. If you open Computer Management "type it in the start screen", you'll then be presented with some management options for your computer. One of those options is Disk Management. At that point you can right click and shrink your C: partition
and create new partitions with the newly created space.

How Do You Change the Remote Desktop Listening Port in Win 8.1 Pro

I am trying to setup two Win 8.1 Pro computers for Remote Desktop access on my local network. I can get Remote Desktop working fine on both when they are using the default RD port 3389. I am unable to change the listening port on one of the computers so
that I can access either via a public Internet connection. I change the listening port in the Registry, reboot the computer and verify that the port number has been changed BUT the computer still responds to the old port 3389 and can't connect via the new
port number. I added a Firewall rule for the new port, but that did NOT solve the problem.
I have followed the procedure below and verified in the Registry that the port is changed but the Remote Desktop remains accessible only on the default port 3389. The new port number in the Registry is 39699. I used a network scanner and it shows the computer
is still listening on port 3389 for Remote Desktop connections. Why is Win 8.1 Pro ignoring the new port number in the Registry and still responding on 3389? Is there another place in Win 8.1 Pro that the port also needs to be changed. I also added a new rule
in the Firewall to allow incoming requests on port 39699? This is a very frustrating problem, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Based on my test, we can change the listening port for Remote Desktop.
To change the port that Remote Desktop listens on, follow these steps.
1.Start Registry Editor.
2.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber
3.On the Edit menu, click Modify, and then click Decimal.
4.Type the new port number, and then click OK.
5.Quit Registry Editor.
6.Restart the computer.
Meanwhile, please note, please type the new integer port number between 1025 and 65535 in the PortNumber text box.
And make sure the new port number is not in use by other application.
We may use the command below to check the result.
netstat -a
Also, we can use Network Monitor to trace the port.

There are two item that should be modified to change the default 3389 port:
One is: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\rdpwd\Tds\tcp]. Modify the PortNamber to the one you want.
The other is: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentContro1Set\Control\Tenninal Server\WinStations\RDP\Tcp]. Modify the PortNumber to the one you want.
In your case, you missed the first one.

Is It Possible To Change My Pre-order

Seems as thought the customer service lines are down and I need to find out how I can go about changing my pre-order. I pre-ordered the Samsung Galaxy S3 a few days before June 28th so that I could keep my unlimited data plan. When researching the phone I could not find anywhere that said it DEFINITELY had internal storage AND expandable memory via micro SD cards. So I ordered the 16GB version thinking it was a 16GB card and that I could swap in a larger card later. Now I find out that it is both internal memory AND expandable. Had I known this I would have ordered the 32GB version.
Now that I have the pre-order already placed for the 16GB, how can I go about getting the 32GB?
I saw someone post about how they tried changing the color of the phone the day after the old plans expired (June 29th) and that they cancelled their order, thus canceling their contract, and losing the unlimited. I don't want that to happen obviously but since I can't call in, and ordered this phone online, what are my options besides going to a storefront?
Does anyone think this will be possible for me to do? Or should I just stick with it and try returning it for a 32GB within the 14 day return policy?
I have a strong feeling I won't be able to switch the phones on my pre-order...

Update: Talked to a local Verizon Rep. and they said I should wait for it to be shipped to me, call customer service, tell them I want to exchange it for the 32GB version, and they will ship it to me in a few days. I cannot open the box of the 16GB version or activate it obviously.
I thought this phone was going to be sold out, unavailable, hence the pre-orders. Do you guys think I should just do what she said? I wouldn't want to get stuck in that 14-day return policy. But I wonder if that 14-day return policy applies to my phone the day I get it or when it is activated. With my luck I would try to exchange it when its shipped, then there would be no 32GB phones available until after the 14 days.

However, the sync action only triggers every 60-minute and there is no user-configurable option provided. Although one can put a Sync icon onto the toolbar for easier access, it is still far from practical needs.
To unlock this limitation, do the following:
1) Type “about:config” at the address bar
2) Search for “services.sync.syncInterval”
3) Change the value from 3600000 (milliseconds = 3600 seconds = 60 minutes) to any value (in millisecond) of your choice
4) Close and restart Firefox
The Sync action will now trigger at the interval you just set.

Verizon CHANGED the pre-order date from our original 09/19 confirmation at checkout. Our email confirmation shows 10/07 WHY? What was the point in staying up to 3:AM? Sorry, that's not the point. It you're spending money on phone, AND renewing a contract for the umpteenth time, then we at least need answers. You don't pre-order an item , only to have the date changed without even a warning that this may occur. Whether it be a $20.00 or a $400 one.
We can also be quiet about it and accept whatever companies throw our way. No thanks.

Hi, because of a faulty sdd which i had implantd myself, i cannot recover the original product key. i know have build in a new sdd, and i have installed win 8,1 pro, but i do not have the product key, it isn't on the bottom either. Registration in now done online, If there was an issue then you would get a windows notification telling you to call and register.
Newwe machines did not come with a COA sticker and the Product key is located in the BIOS (do not mess around in there) If you truly need it then I will happily tell you how to get it but resintallation is done almost automatically when you go online.

Hard time trying to 'Package Solution' - Access 2010 on Win 8.1 pro 64

I got myself a brand new system (win 8.1 pro 64) a while ago, and with it,
got a few problems as well. - If it makes any difference, I had an accdr and changed file extension to accdb, this is
the FE I'm trying to 'Package' now -
It happens that after installing Office Professional Plus 2010(not sure if
x86 or x64 - does it matter?), checking all the conditionals for MSAccess,
even repairing installation a bunch of times, no matter what,
whenever I try to 'Package Solution', there's always a boring message
at the end stating that, 'An unexpected error has occurred', period.
That's it!
I tried to move my files to documents folder, assuming that might be
caused by lack of permission, still nothing happens, other than the same
'An unexpected error has occurred', no additional info available.
Googling this, I could find one or another info, but people usually report
in common with my issue, just the error message, the whole context seems
to be pretty different. Anyway, never been thru such a thing, don't know
if I should install any hotfix, I reinstalled office a couple of times already,
nope! It's not working!
And I got this app release that's been waiting almost 1 week now to reach my customer,
in other words, big trouble!
So, I really could use some help, and I appreciate anybody who would kindly
lend me a hand on the matter of this subject.

This is much I suggested using an accDE. You use the accDB to develop and create the application. When you compile to an accDE, then users cannot see or view VBA code, nor can they change reports or forms if they get “inside” the application.
So you most certainly will continue to use and develop using the accDB, but the “last” step before deployment is to first ensure you VBA code compiles (in the VBA editor, go debug-> compile). Once your sure code compiles, then you create the accDE that
you will include in your package to distribution to users. Do keep in mind that this suggest thus suggests your data is “split” or outside of the application you package else updates to users would overwrite their data.
So using an accDE means users cannot modify forms/reports, and also means that users cannot view code. This also eliminates the need for some kind of password system to prevent modifications to the application. so you can rename the accDE to a accDR, but
even if users re-name it back to a accDB or accDE, modifying to forms/reports and VBA code is NOT possible. This also means you do NOT want to lose your accDB that you are using for development.

DASYLab 11 and Win 8.1 Pro

Hi, i am going to get a new laptop with Win 8.1 pro, currently i am using DASYLab 11, I believe DASYLab 11 works iwth Win 8.1, but i want to ask if anyone has some experience with it, do i need to upgrade some drive or do something? i just want to prepare as early as possible as i am going to use this for a series testing which is coming very soon.

You will need to update to DASYLab 13. There were changes made specifically to support Windows 8. The NI drivers were revised to add new hardware support.
Your hardware will need the Windows 8.1 drivers.
Both DASYLab and the NI drivers recommend that you disable the fast boot feature and force the PC to fully boot each time.
I don't recommend the previous generations of the Surface Pro, but I have no experience with the latest Surface Pro. I use Windows 8.1 on a workstation class computer. I have worked with various customers using Windows 8 and 8.1 successfully. I like the 8.1 release because you can get it to boot directly to the desktop rather than to the new start screens.
DASYLab will support a touch screen as a mouse (tap, double-tap, tap-slide) but will not support "gestures" that were introduced with Windows 8. We still recommend a mouse or mouse-like device..

Fresh install Win 8.1 Pro into Pavilion X2 (10", 32GB tablet)

Have a Pavilion X2 (32GB version) with Win 8.1 Bing.
Need to get into domain, therefore wanted to fresh install Win 8.1 Pro, at the same time remove the recovery partition for more space.
F10 to bios to set bootup to USB drive, pops in a Win 8.1 Pro x64 installation disc, but X2 refuses to boot to disc.
Is it the x64 version disc problem or have i missed some setting to make the X2 boot to disc properly??

VM created on Win 8.1 Pro Laptop cannot find win 7 iso file on USB

VM cannot find USB to load Win 7
I have a Windows laptop with Win 8.1 Pro installed. I turned on Hyper-V and created a VM. Everything worked up to that point. I also downloaded the Win 7 iso and placed it on a USB thumb drive. I also downloaded the Win 7 installer.
When I "start" the VM, I get a black screen with a message the VM could not load an OS.
It appears to me that the VM does not know where to look for the OS. I cannot find any way to tell it where to look.
I spent over $300 for upgrades to Win 8.1 Pro and a licensed copy of Win 7 so I could run Win 7 on my laptop as I need it to run UPK (which is not compatible with Win 8).
As a last resort I went to the Micrsoft store in Miami and offered to buy a Surface Pro 3 if they would install the VM and Win 7 on that for me. They said it was very easy to do and I would have no problems, etc., etc., etc. In other words they did not have
a clue about what I was talking about.
I hate to see over $3000 worth of hardware collecting dust on my closet shelf because I cannot use them. I am hopeful someone here can help a non-techie make this thing work.

PS - Went to the Apple store last night and was shown a MacBook Air with Parallels installed. It was running Apple stuff on the Apple OS and MS Office 365 on Win 7. It was all very seamless so am leaning very much to going with Apple as a solution.

You don't say that you attached the iso to the VM. The easiest way to do
that is to connect to the VM and then on the console, pull down the
"Media" menu, Select "Insert Disk", then browse to the ISO and select it.
Then under the "Action" menu, select "Reset".
You can also mount an iso in the settings for the VM.
