Changin installation directory of messaging server

Hello,
I have installed and configured messaging server at /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/.....
I wanted to change that to /messaging/mail1/bin directory
I stopped the messaging server
I copied all the content of messaging64/ to messaging/mail1/bin
moved messaging64 folder. I am able to do start stop for messaging. however imsrestart is giving error ....
starting dispatched serverf ld.so.1: dispatched : fatal: libimta.so: open failed: no such file or directory.
Exit code =2 (2) - IMTA_NO, basic No,......
i checked file libimta.so is there under messaging/mail1/bin/lib
I also added above path in to LD_LIBRARY_PATH and also to the path.
still getting the same error.
also checked with sh -x imsimta version
it is showing correct directories.
what other action need to be taken here?
regards,
sumant

I wanted to change that to /messaging/mail1/bin directoryJust for future reference you can specify the install-root by using the --installroot <path> commpkg option as per:
http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/commpkg+install+Usage
starting dispatched serverf ld.so.1: dispatched : fatal: libimta.so: open failed: no such file or directory.
what other action need to be taken here?You need to make sure that the crle values are correctly set to match the new path (run the crle command and you will see the paths I am referring to).

    Messaging 3.5.2 fixes the following bug. In 3.5, the host name that

  • Messaging server in mutlimaster replication

    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.1 (built Apr 28 2004)
    I am testing JES2004Q4 at two site and we are using Directory 5.2 patch 2 Schema 2 and Messaging server 6.1
    I have two messaging server at different sites and both using there local directory. Messaging server is working fine with current configuration.
    We are using current suffix at directory server o=abc.org,o=abc.org for abc.org domain and o=def.org,o=abc.org for def.org domain and so on.as top root is o=abc.org for usergroups
    We want to have mutlimaster replication between these directory servers so user data can be modified or added from any site must be replicated at other LDAP.
    To setup this replication I created suffix ou=people,o=abc.org,o=abc.org under Data to intilize with current data. User data initialization done well and both messaging are working fine in mutlimaster configuration as I replicate the msg-admin-hostname-20040727213740 entries of both messaging servers.
    But when ever I want to delete the entry from the ldap, it pretends that entry successfully deleted but when I search for entry again its still there and when I delete it again its came out with the nullnetscape.ldap.LDAPException error result (32); matchedDN = ou=people,o=abc.org,o=abc.org.jm; No such object
    But I can't see this entry under ou=people,o=abc.org,o=abc.org but search of admin server console is showing me the entry
    Also ./imsimta test -rewrite -debug [email protected] is giving me the positive result
    When I delete the newly created suffix, I can see all those entries which was present before this new suffix created. thats mean this delete is not effecting the original data but only the data intilized under newly created suffix and imsimta and admin console search is getting the data from original database not from the resulting database created with new suffix creation.
    Any idea why

    Jay,
    I am using Console, dose it make any difference? Indeed. Console is an unsupported method for doing user/group provisioning and modification. You should not attempt to use the console for such, as the Console is not aware of all of the object classes required for user manipulation.
    I wait for an hour to check delete was successful or
    not.
    I think we need to tackle this database thing because
    even search and imsimta looking of original database
    not the initialized data at new posted suffix.
    let me ask you one thing If in original data I just
    have the admin and msg-admin -hostname-2004.........
    entry to run the messaging server and rest all user
    data should the initialized at posted suffix for
    replication, will it work?I'm sorry, I don't understand what you just said above.
    If you truly have multi master replication set up (something I'm not expert with), then any changes you make to one ldap server will be propagated to the other. You can examine the "changelog" to confirm that.
    BUT
    If you attempt to manipulate users and groups by Console, you will be unsuccessful, no matter your ldap setup, as the console cannot be relied upon to properly provision users.
    The tool provided to manipulate users/groups is the command-line tool,
    commadmin
    You have to install Identity Server and commcli in order to do that.

  • Manually coping agent installation directory in windows.

    Hi
    One of my production server's hardware is going to be upgraded from ProLiant DL380 G4 to ProLiant DL380 G5 with higher configuration in Windows 32 bit OS. My network team is rebuilding this server as a new box with the same ip address. I don't want to loose the history of this node target databases in the Grid repository for reporting purposes.
    If I install the oracle agent as a fresh installation I will loose the history. I am planning copy the entire agent installation directory to new server. I am curious to know once I secure the agent and start the agent with because ip addresses are same will it start? How to create a agent service here? Is there any manual process to create the agent service. I want to preserve the history of the node and targets in the Grid here.
    Your valuable suggestions are highly appreciated.
    Rao

    Rao,
    You won't be able to just copy the software directory to the new server. The installation process addes entries to the registry, updates the path, etc.
    The sc command allows you to interact with services. If you type "sc" at a command prompt, you will get a listing of the syntax.
    I wouldn't think that you could copy the configuration from an "old" host & use it on a "new" host. There would be too many differences that would cause conflicts. I guess you could try it & drop & recreate the objects from the repository if it didn't work.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Messaging Server: mail and mailalternativeaddress attributes must be unique

    Email addresses for a given User Directory must have unique mail
    and mailalternativeaddress
    attributes.
    <P>
    Messaging Server uses the following two attributes to search for email
    addresses in the User Directory:<BR>
    <P>
    <OL>
    <LI>mail
    <LI>mailalternativeaddress
    </OL>
    <P>
    Each email address in the User Directory must have unique entries for these
    two attributes. If a given email address appears twice in the User Directory,
    the Messaging Server will display an error message and will not deliver the
    email to either address. In the case where a user wants email that is
    addressed to one email address to go to other email addresses as well (e.g., if
    a user has multiple accounts), you would need to create a group for that user
    and add the other email addresses to the group.
    <P>
    <B>Additional Notes:</B>
    <P>
    <UL>
    <LI>Administration Server 3.x and 4.x have various mechanisms for
    reducing the likelihood of user error when creating email accounts.
    <P>
    <LI>Administrators of Directory Server 4.x servers should also be aware that
    the mail and
    mailalternativeaddress
    attributes must be unique to prevent collisions between those two attributes.
    <P>
    The uid uniqueness plugin maintains uniqueness within attributes, but not across attributes.
    Using this feature for both attributes cannot fully prevent address collisions.
    <BR><P>
    For example, a user could theoretically enter duplicate values for the
    mail and
    mailalternativeaddress attributes:
    <BR>
    <P>
    mail: [email protected]
    <BR>
    <P>
    mailalternativeaddress: [email protected]
    <P>
    Although the server would initially accept this value for both attributes, it
    will post an error message later when it processes an email addressed to this
    address.
    </UL>

    What does “I overwrote the information in Accounts” mean? What exactly did you do? More info, please.
    Deleting a mail account (which i not the same as overwritting the account information) causes all your mail stored in that account’s mailboxes to be removed from the computer as well, and you you were warned that this would happen by an alert similar to this for Mail 2.x (I don’t know what the exact wording is in Mac OS X 10.3):
    Remove Account
    Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
    This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected.For IMAP-type accounts, this is not a problem because mail is stored on the server. If you deleted a POP account, however, your mail has certainly been wiped out from the computer, not just moved somewhere.
    To prevent that from happening, you should have moved your mail to custom “On My Mac” mailboxes instead of leaving it in the account’s mailboxes. Actually, using the account’s Inbox and Sent mailboxes for archiving purposes is a bad idea regardless — see Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty.
    If the POP account was configured to leave the messages on the server for some time, setting up the account again would cause any messages still on the server to be downloaded again, just like for IMAP accounts, but this would only work for received mail that has not yet been removed from the server.
    If the messages are not on the server and you don’t have a backup (which you should have made before doing something like that), you may try to salvage as many deleted mbox files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 2.x). Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

    You will see that when you unzip the full comm-suite-6 download there is a SunOS_i386 directory which includes all the software that can be installed.

    What does this mean?It means exactly what it says. Messenger Express has been removed. It has been deprecated for a few versions now and every single 6.3 patch has said at the end on the patch installation that Messenger Express will be removed in a future version, so does the documentation/release notes:
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite6/Messaging+Server+7.0+Release+Notes#MessagingServer7.0ReleaseNotes-MessengerExpress
    If you want to use webmail you now use either UWC/CE or Convergence as the webmail interface.

  • Directory Server Replica and Messaging Server 6

    I install Directory Server 5.2 as Master Replica in one machine (V120) and on the other machine (V240) I install the following:
    1. SunONE Directory Server 5.2 (Consumer
    Replica) or slave replica.
    2. SunONE Identity Server
    3. SunONE Messaging Server 6
    I have successfully install and configured the 3 Servers, when they are running on just one machine (one box). But when I try to run them in two separate machines as described above, the messaging server acts strangely and it's configuration fails, when i try to configure it on the directory server replica.
    In simpler words, I want to know if someone has installed Messaging Server in a Directory Server Replication scenario, where there are two machines involve. Because all works well when we install everything on one machine (one box) but I am having hard time configuring the messaging server in this split setup scenario.
    So, if someone has idea about how to run the Messaging Server 6 ( ./configure ) file successfully on a Directory Server 5.2 Replica, please suggest me in detail.
    Thanking you,
    Farhan Ahmed.
    Vision Valley, Dubai.

    Messaging Server uses LDAP in two ways. The obvious one is that user/group/domain information is stored there.
    The non-obvious way is that some configuration information is stored in LDAP, in the "o=NetscapeRoot" tree. This tree is NOT ususally replicated, so if you perform the installation against one LDAP server, and then attempt to move the configuration to point to another one, and don't make a separate replication agreement for the configuration, your server won't work correctly.
    To configure Messaging against a replica, you also need to understand how the replication and "referral" works. Without studying your scenario, I cannot tell what has failed, but indeed, there are users that have configured Messaging 6.0 against a replica LDAP system.
    You may want to open a tech support ticket, and get personal help for your issue.

  • Can MoveUser move a user's mailbox from an installation of Mail Server 2.X to Messaging Server 3.X?

    Can MoveUser move a user's mailbox from an installation of Mail
    Server 2.X to Messaging Server 3.X?
    <P>
    Yes.
    The 2.x server allows the postmaster to login to a user's account.
    Try running MoveUser as follows:
    MoveUser -u uid -s host -xPostmaster:uid -p password
    -d desthost -a proxyuser -v proxypassword -m mailboxpath
    Notes:
    Mail Server 2.x uses a local database and not an LDAP server
    for account information. The -l option
    specify ldap URL and the associated bindDN password,
    therefore, are not valid when moving from
    Mail Server 2.x to Messaging Server 3.x.
    "Postmaster:" is case sensitive.
    The -a and -v options are for Messaging Server 3.x
    ProxyAuthUser credentials.
    We do NOT allow this login to a 3.x server
    (use PROXYAUTH instead).

    Additionally
    When I type in fasn26p (machine name) the Oracle Application Server Welcome page displays.
    I can get to the Enterprise Manager via the link on the page.
    On the All Programs menu, under Oracle - OraDb10g_home1 I can access the Datbase Control page and login. The line for Database Instance: Orcl is -
    http://fasn26p:1158/em/consol/database/instance/sitemap?event=doloa&....
    One last thought. I installed this with this on my network at home and I now have it disconnected from the network. So no IP address for the adapter and I wonder if that can cause a problem with Apache?

  • Instant Messaging Server configuration failed after installation

    Hi,
    I have a problem with the configuration of Instant Messaging server as part Sun Java Communications Suite 6u2.
    IM had been installed using commpkg install --altroot -installroot /opt/sun/comms2 (should run in cluster environment).
    Running configure failed when looking for package SUNWiimin. Due to the altroot installation the package information resides under /opt/sun/comms2/var/sadm/...

    Just wonder how to make messaging server authenticate against directory server? Basically I created users on the directroy server, and would like to let these users to access messaging server?
    Thanks for advice!

    I'm sorry, your question doesn't really make any sense.
    Messaging Server always authenticates to users in a Directory.
    How did you "create users"? That may be the problem. If you don't create the users with the provisioning tools provided with Messaging, then the users don't have the correct object classes and attributes to function as Messaging users.

    Did i reach to limitation of max-connection which this server allows ? Any ideas ?You hit the maximum file-descriptor limit as the error points out. Remember that each TCP network connection consumes a file-descriptor.
    At this point you have a few options:
    1) Try to determine why there are so many active connections from the system 210.245.31.25 to the LDAP server and reduce them (e.g. restart the application holding open the connections, fix the application).
    2) Increase the maximum number of file-descriptors for the system to allow for additional connections -- although this may just delay the problem from re-occurring if you don't address (1).
    3) Restart the Directory Server to close the established connections. This is a short-term fix only.

  • Messaging Server/UNIX: Starts automatically after installation

    How can I configure Messaging Server to run automatically on startup?
    <P>
    In most cases, Messaging Server for UNIX will run at startup automatically.
    <P>
    Most UNIX systems have a start script that includes a line that starts sendmail
    as a server (/usr/lib/sendmail -bd) automatically.
    Howver, when Messaging Server is installed, it replaces several mail utilities (mailq,
    processq, and sendmail), with links to our sendmail binary
    (<ServerRoot>/bin/msg/admin/bin/sendmail).
    Therefore, Messaging Server, rather than sendmail, starts when
    your system starts.
    <P>
    This can be confusing to administrators of other Netscape servers since
    most other Netscape servers are not installed to start automatically.
    <P>
    <B>Note:</B>
    <P>
    This does not take effect until the system is fully restarted. After
    installing Messaging Server, restart the system before attempting to start
    Messaging Server. Sendmail is usually already running, and the installer does
    not kill the sendmail process.
    <P>
    If you start Messaging Server without
    restarting, smtpd will not start due to a port conflict.

    I have tried the suggestion above (clear the "Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed" checkbox) and it does the trick for me. However on the Home/Get Started/Set up screen the "Set up Server Backup" task is then reset to outstanding
    while the .../Quick Status screen shows "Server Backup ON".
    Is a working work around till a real update or hotfix is released

  • Messaging server "testing" config directory instance

    So I'm noticing a lot of binds and searches from Messaging to it's config DS instance and was just curious as to if there's a pattern? My production box seems to test anywhere from every minute to as long as 4 minutes apart, however a test box (at the same patch level as prod) it only tests every 10 minutes (or right along with msprobe). The prod box has the same configutil for msprobe so I can't figure out why the prod messaging is continuously doing this:
    [06/Feb/2007:09:44:59 -0500] conn=1504753 op=0 msgId=1 - BIND dn="cn=msg-config, cn=Sun ONE Messaging Suite, cn=Server Group, cn=mail.domain.edu, ou=domain.edu, o=NetscapeRoot" method=128 version=2
    [06/Feb/2007:09:44:59 -0500] conn=1504753 op=0 msgId=1 - RESULT err=0 tag=97 nentries=0 etime=0 dn="cn=msg-config,cn=sun one messaging suite,cn=server group,cn=mail.domain.edu,ou=domain.edu,o=netscaperoot"
    [06/Feb/2007:09:44:59 -0500] conn=1504753 op=1 msgId=2 - SRCH base="cn=configuration,cn=msg-config,cn=sun one messaging suite,cn=server group,cn=mail.domain.edu,ou=domain.edu,o=netscaperoot" scope=2 filter="(objectClass=*)" attrs=ALL
    [06/Feb/2007:09:44:59 -0500] conn=1504753 op=1 msgId=2 - RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=39 etime=0
    [06/Feb/2007:09:44:59 -0500] conn=1504753 op=2 msgId=3 - UNBIND
    [06/Feb/2007:09:44:59 -0500] conn=1504753 op=2 msgId=-1 - closing - U1
    [06/Feb/2007:09:44:59 -0500] conn=1504753 op=-1 msgId=-1 - closed.
    Sure there's a LOT more traffic to production than test, but I wasn't aware that it was traffic dependent. This is also a backend store - the two front ends we have which are config'd for MMP/MEM do not look for the config ds other than at startu/shutdown.
    Version:
    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-7.05 (built Sep 5 2006)
    libimta.so 6.2-7.05 (built 12:18:44, Sep 5 2006)
    Is this typical? Is this configurable to stop it from checking so frequently/sporadically? Is this something I need to worry about?

    Hi,
    will get stopped and restarted. When they get
    restarted, they will query the config ldap. Has
    nothing to do with msprobe, but does have to do with
    the load on the system. the tcp server/clients live
    for a number of hours, or number of connections. . .
    This all changes with 6.3.In case you were wondering, version 6.3 of messaging server does away with the configuration directory, and stores the same settings locally. That is why Jay says it changes with 6.3.
    Regards,
    Shane.

  • Netsconsole 4.2- no admin server, directory server, messaging server

    I have installed Iplanet messaging server 5.1 in sun solaris 8. After starting netscape console 4.2 I can't see admin server, directory server, messaging server tabs under the tree at the lefthand side. only domainname there. But all servers are working fine as far as i inspected. Have anybody come across this and help me to solve the problem and use this console effectively.
    -suranji

    4.2 is never meant to work with msg 5.2? Well what about Netscape Console 4.5? Is it meant to work? What console is actually meant to work with Msg 5.2?
    The answers that SUN gives are always unclear. Instead of blabbering that this wont work, that wont work, why dont you guys say what actually WORKS?
    You know what? Nothing works that is from SUN. We have to break our heads and be sorry that we chose the SUN side.
    Give a clear documentation. Put up a compatibility list with each product. Why dont you guys concentrate on documentation?
    If I invent something, i have to tell people how to use it. Otherwise, slowly people will start to get away from it. Take this message. Work on guys. Do you know how frustrating it is that somwething logcal turns out NOT WORKING. and all we get for answer is THIS IS NOT SUPPORTEd and nothing else?
    Please....for all those guys running Msg server, switch to exchange..live happily... i am planning to recommend this to my customer....live peacefully..live with MS
