Changin Scale Causes wavy lines

Premiere Pro CC
I'm working w someone else's original cut getting ready to lay to tape (required by client). To create a zoom effect the other editor keyframed the scaling on quite a few shots. For some reason when it is played in the time line it's causing wavy lines (almost a rolling shutter look) in the back ground of the shot. The lines are always in a bush or tree in the back ground, and not on the main subject, but is very noticeable.
I'm working on a late 2013 Mac Pro w/ up to date Creative cloud.
This type of issue is on multiple projects, and different types of camera footage. There is no distortion on the raw footage, or if the shot is placed in the seq w/out the scaling changes.
Any help would be appreciated.

What happens if you get rid of this line?

  • Custom scale causing flat line

I'm new to Labview and am using version 7.0, SCB 100 board, and a PCI 6031E card to read a signal from a pressure transducer.
I have a configured a virtual channel to read the voltage as follows:
    Input terminal configuration:  differential
    Minimum value: -5V
    Maximum value: +5V
The units are from a custom scale that takes the voltage value and converts it to a pressure in bar.
The signal to the board is 126mV.  A custom linear scale is added to convert the voltage to a pressure value.  The scale (272 bar/V) was created in MAX and added to the virtual channel.  Without the custom scaling applied the signal is displayed as expected.  However, when the scale is added the pressure signal flat lines around 27.3 bar.  When the Maximum value field of the virtual channel is set above this value (such as 28) the signal appears, but at a higher value than expected and much noisier.
There are several other pressure signals being measured that use the +/- 5V setting with similar (515 bar/V) custom scales and they are working fine.  It seems very odd that the range must be set at 28 to get a signal.  I read that the range is set after custom scaling is applied, but the other pressure signals are also scaled and work fine with the +/- 5V.  Any suggestions on what might be causing this and how to fix it would be much appreciated.

    Hi KVB,
What is happening is that the range you set is for the scaled signal not the range for the incoming signal.
Try setting the range to what the expected range is for the scaled signal and you should find that this problem is eliminated.

  • 19" Samsung 2nd display has "wavy" lines

I bought a Samsung SyncMaster 906bw as a second display for my 24" iMac. I have it connected via the included VGA cable. The displays resolution is at 1440x900 with 60 hertz.
The problem, is that there are wavy lines continuously moving up the display. It's kind of hard to explain, think of those bars moving up a CRT display when they are filmed on video. I've tried adjusting the resolutions and hertz, but no dice. Any idea what could be the problem? Is it the display, or the video card?

    "Wavy lines on the screen:
In some instances you may encounter wavy lines on the screen. These are usually 1/4" thick and move in a vertical motion. This is caused by a noisy electrical feed from a wall outlet. If you change your vertical refresh rate under display properties to 75Hz this effect should disappear.

  • (jpg format) in Cs5 full edit, to have wavy lines in it?

When I process the blues in Cs5 full edit I get these wavy lines in it.  What might cause this?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.

  • Jagged wavy lines edge of CRT display with Dual Core Mac mini

My friend recently bought a Dual Core Intel Mac mini and when hooking it up to a 19 inch MAG monitor there are often wavy lines on the edges of the screen. They go up and down both sides, are jagged, and also are not static but moving quickly. Sometimes it seems to behave normally while other times if it doesn't show up on the boot screen it will show up after a little bit of use.
At first it seems that the more stuff I opened the worse it got, so I thought it could be the shared video RAM as he did not upgrade from the original 512 , but that should only slow the computer down anyway. Now I think rather than the RAM I think it could be related to the Apple DVI to VGA adapter, resloution/refresh rate, or just bad video hardware. I can't rule out that it just won't play nice with the majority of CRT monitors out there either. Sometimes changing the resolution/refresh rate helps and other time it doesn't. From what I heard my friend experienced wavy lines somewhat on his own monitor but I don't think it did it when using a DVI to HDMI cable to his Sony 50 LCD (and I didn't see it when hooking it up to mine either).
If anyone has any idea what could be going on I would greatly appreciate it. The reason it is so important is that my friend decided that the Mac mini was kind of an impulse buy and didn't need his iBook and another computer for his TV so he is going to sell it to my brother who is in need of a computer. So I don't want him to get into something that will give him problems right away.
    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

So is the MAG monitor your brother's monitor? That wasn't clear.
What you are seeing will most likely be limited to the MAG monitor. The MAG is experiencing some kind of noise coupling in to horizontal sync, likely from it's own power supply. You are correct that this will be related to the sync rate. Changing the vertical refresh to something higher, like 85 Hz or higher if available, might help to mask the noise. Also, power supply loading will affect how the noise manifests, so you weren't imagining when you thought that opening more applications made it worse. It didn't have anything to do with the mini but rather the different average picture level on the screen was changing the monitor's power supply loading and hence changing the beat frequency between hsync and the power supply's switching frequency.
I think it is safe to say most of what you see is bound to the monitor and not the mini. Furthermore, if you are stuck with this monitor, you can probably lessen the appearance of the noise by mucking with the refresh rate out of the mini.

  • I'm getting wavy lines on my stills within my timeline

Hi all, it's me again. I have a new issue. I recently did a project using .jpg images and put them to music. I also used LiveType as name keys to highlight what the different sections were. When I exported the project I used the animation codec, none on field dominance and left it at the 720x480. I needed this quick so I used iDVD. When you play the video on a NTSC monitor you see wavy lines along the edges of the photos (the ones that have black as the border) as well as fine lines either from a brick wall or windows. (I know there is a bit of a zebra effect when there are lines already in the image) So I don't know if I just need to start over and import the images as pict or tiff files or if it's a simple fix by using a different codec and appropriate settings.
    Any thoughts, I'm open.
    Mike

If it's the black border on your pix that waves then you can try a couple of things. You could use a gaussian blur filter, but I would make it really slight like .02-.05.
You might also try putting a soft edge on the border you created for the jpgs

  • Ken Burns:  wavy line issue during zoom

As a photographer I work exclusively with stills. Regardless of resoultion/format, images with a full-range K.Burns zoom have undulating, wavy lines. This is especially noticeable in compositions with parallel lines, and further intensified by zoom durations over 5 seconds.
This is true even when optimized by iDVD set at "High Quality."
    Appreciate any insights/soultions...

The render bar on top of the timeline is dark-green for good-looking images, which according to the final cut manual, means 'no render necessary'
This is misleading. It simply means rendering is not necessary for playback. It does NOT mean that the material does not need to be rendered.
100% zoom level is as close to how your video actually looks that a computer monitor can display.
You never said what format you're working in.
You always have to render still images. You're making video, and they're not video.

  • Wavy lines in bar charts after converting a Powerpoint to a pdf?

After converting a Powerpoint file to a pdf, the bar charts have wavy lines.  The one thing I noticed is that the problem appeared when creating the pdf with Notes showing.  If Notes are turned off, then the bars are fine.
Is there a solution for this?

    Version is Office 2007.
    OS is Windows 7.
Viewer - I think it is Acrobat 9 Pro.
When printing, the option to print notes is chosen.  If the option is just slides, the bars in the charts are normal.
To create a PDF, the Powerpoint file is open --> then go to Print --> in the Print dialog box, change the printer name to Adobe PDF and print.

  • When I cut and paste a word form a pdf file into the search window I get wavy lines, why is this

I am editing a document and wish to look up words and other information. When I select and copy a word from my pdf document and paste it into firefox's search window, I do not get the word but wavy lines instead. How can I remedy this? Example: I am trying to look up Carl Jung and copied this name but when I try pasting it I get this wavy line: ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣

You’re omitting essential information here, namely how exactly do you paste into the message you’re composing in Mail when it crashes. Do you paste by ctrl-clicking (or right-clicking) and choosing Paste from the contextual menu maybe? Try doing Edit > Paste (⌘V) instead; I bet Mail won’t crash if you do that.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if you also have a plug-in or an input manager or a contextual menu item or something like that that has a bearing on this. In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/Contextual Menu Items/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/Contextual Menu Items/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
To make accurately reporting this information easier, you may open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You can then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
    ls -1 /Library/Contextual\ Menu\ Items/ /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/Contextual\ Menu\ Items/ ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • In InDesign CS5, creating a table with wavy line

I've created a table. I want the vertical column to have a wavy line but I can't get the colors to work. See attached. What am I doing wrong?

You're out of luck.  If both boxes were the same colour you could have a wavy stroke between them, but not like that.  Try making a standard box with a wavy stroke and filling it, you have the same problem.  I think Illustrator can do it, but that doesn't help you with your tables!
You can of course chnge the "fill" colour, that won't help you either.

  • Wavy lines in my youtube videos

I am a complete novice when it comes to video editing. I am not a computer person by all means.  But, i have learned the basics.  The problem i run into is, after i upload my video from Premier Elements 11 to youtube, the videos have wavy lines in them.  I cant seem to correct it.  somebody help please??

    Kettlejitsu71
As you wrote, you are using Premiere Elements 11. What are the properties of your source media? And, when you have your media on the Timeline Expert View is there over the content:
    a. no colored line
    b. an orange line
    b. a green line
If you have an orange line over the Timeline and you click the Render button, what does the playback of the TImeline look like in the monitor? Do you see the wavy lines that you see in your upload to YouTube from within Premiere Elements 11?
What preset are you selecting for Publish+Share/Online/YouTube. These are not adjustable presets. SG suggests
In version 11, the ideal format to output your video for YouTube is Publish & Share/Computer/AVCHD with one of the YouTube presets.
I would point out here that, if you follow SG's suggestion, you are exporting the Timeline to a H.264.mp4 file which will be saved to the hard drive location that you designate. Then you must take that file and upload it to YouTube at the YouTube web site, not from within Premiere Elements 11. The default for SG's route is 1280 x 720 @ 24 progressive frames per second, but here you can make adjustments in the settings under the Advanced Button.
We will be watching for your progress.
    Thanks.

  • Magenta cast and wavy lines

Hello forum, having just purchased a new eMac and finding everthing as great as my last one apart from my screen! It seems to me that there is a large area at the centre of the screen with a magenta cast. When calibrated with my Spyder Eye One it gives an even more pronounced cast. When I change resolution (from 1280 x 960 to 1152 x 864) I get a series of wavy lines at the edge of the display. This is not screen I knew and loved on my previous eMac. Is this a common prroblem with this model 1.42 GHz? Do I need to seek Apple support and send the computer back? or is it a setting that can be corrected? Any help or advice Thanks, Tony
    powerbook g4 15" emac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for that Donny, just been talking to Apple and told it is a Known Issue. Been offered a repair or refund. Not really sure about repair, my feeling is the mac is less than a week old and already needs a fix. Has any one else any experience if the repair is a god idea? Think maybe I should move up to iMac. I know that Apple can not replace the eMac as it is discontiuned item. This one was a clearance item New, Unused and unwrapped but with damaged box. Thanks again, Tony

  • Drawing a squiggly or wavy line between two points?

I've searched and searched and cannot find a way to draw a
squiggly or wavy line in the MOUSE_MOVED event as the user clicks
    and moves the mouse.
    How can this be done??

if you don't want a direct line from one mouse position to
the next, you won't want to use a mousemove event. use a timer
event that checks the mouse position periodically and with each
check start another timer event that executes much more rapidly and
draws a line with perturbations (say, a sine curve) from one mouse
    position to the next.

  • I would like to create a wavy line (the zig zag feature is not exactly what I need here) to outline

I would like to create a wavy line (the zig zag feature is not exactly what I need here) to outline a shape and then fill it with a solid color. Any ideas?
This is approx what I want; however the undulation needs to be more round and less peaked

    Barbara,
If you wish to create a gap between the wavy line and the underlying object, you may:
    1) Select the wavy line and Object>Expand Appearance;
    2) In the Appearance palette flyout tick New Stroke, drag it beneath the original stroke and increase the Stroke Weight as desired and change the colour to white.
If you wish to make the gap transparent, you may:
    3) Select the wavy line and Object>Expand Appearance and Ungroup;
    4) Select the white path and the underlying object and in the Transparency palette flyout tick Make Opacity Mask with Clip unticked and Invert Mask ticked.
It may be done in other ways, too.
