Changing a topic title

I am trying to change an upper case 'A" to a lower case 'a'
in a topic title and file name. I was able to change two topics and
save them, but two others in the same project will not save the
changes. I have removed all of the links to the topics. What could
be the problem?

Welcome to the forum.
A good old classic this one.
You cannot change just the case. Add any character somewhere
in the name and save that. Now go back and remove that character
and change the case of the other one.
The only wrinkle is if the topic title and file name are one
word, then the two have to be the same case so you cannot have Help
as the title and help.htm. There are ways to trick RH and make it
look like that has worked. Trust me that you will find a problem
later on. The easy solution is to use a file name with a variation
like help_topic.htm. I think this might apply to anything where the
title and file name are the same but if you set RH up to have
underscores instead of spaces, that gets around the problem.

  • RoboHelp/Word 2002: Topic Titles/ID Automatically Changing and an Unregistered Routines Message

I’m posting a problem/solution that my team ran into
recently in hopes that it will save other people time if they find
    it also.
    Problem:
I have a Help project created on an XP machine, using
RoboHelp Classic, with Word 2002. There are over 1500 topics in the
project, It is compiled as Webhelp, contains 1,667 objects, and is
    22.8 MB in size.
While working in my project this week, I noticed 4 of my
topics in the RoboHelp Explorer view suddenly had a prefix of
"placeCity" in front of the topic title. It only appeared in the
explorer view and the Properties dialog, but not in the document or
topic itself. When I tried to change the topic title in the
Properties dialog and save, it acted like it saved, but when I
looked in the explorer view, they still had the strange, new
prefix. Then I noticed approximately 6 or 7 topics had the words
"State" and "stockticker" added to the topic IDs which showed up as
broken links. But when I looked at the compiled Webhelp file names,
    they looked normal.
I exited RoboHelp. When I went back in, I received the
following message: "RoboHelp Explorer has detected that there are
unregistered routines used by the following features in this
project. -Html Topics or hotspot links to Html pages displayed in
the Help window. -Link to a Html page, displayed in the browser. Do
you want RoboHelp to make the necessary updates?"
I never saw this message before so I selected Yes. (This
message also appeared to another user on our network, crashed their
computer, but their project was fine afterwards – they were
using a Word 2003). I don't know if selecting Yes stopped any more
chances of RoboHelp automatically renaming topic titles and topic
IDs or what it did. I was afraid I might have a virus, so I spent a
whole day running virus/spyware software. The results found NO
virus but I did have some Malware which I removed. I didn't know if
this caused my problem with RoboHelp or not.
    Solution:
We had other users guide us that it could be similar to the
font problem (with KB917334) that people were currently running
into. We checked and found a Microsoft patch had been loaded around
the time that our problems started: KB917335 for Word 2002. We
deleted the patch, rebooted the system, deleted all of the rtf
files from project, and then started RoboHelp. All issues were
corrected. We have now turned off automatic updates to that
computer until our release has gone out.
    Text

OK and thanks very much for checking that the HTML output is
not affected by this problem. At the moment all I can say is that
Adobe are looking into it but I don't know what they have found
    yet.
Changing the help type might not make you the most popular
person. I cannot say how much work it is but it's not a five minute
task. The problem your company has though is the winhelp has this
problem and at the moment you cannot get around it, assuming you
have tried all the suggestions that have been posted. That may mean
that there is little option but to go down the CHM route.
The only other thing that comes to mind is whether this
problem is RH related or Help Compiler related. If it is exclusive
to RH generated winhelp, then maybe some other tool is an option.
If it is Help Compiler related, it won't matter what tool you use.
Have you tried creating another project to see if you can
change topic ids in that? Has anyone else come across this problem?

  • Fetch topic title

Is there a way to dynamically get the topic title? I want to have a table near the top of each page which automatically displays the topic title in the first cell.

In RH7, if you use a template, RH automatically inserts a variable for the title in topics that are created using the template. I expect you can create a template with a table and move that variable into the table, and then in topics you create from the template, the table and title will show up.  Whenever you change the topic title in the topic properties, it will automatically update in the topic itself.

  • Different Color Text of Topic Titles by Child Project in Search Results List

Does anyone know how I can change the text color to indicate the source project of a topic as displayed in the Search Results list?
I have followed Peter Grainge's directions for setting up a parent project that has several child projects, one of which contains outdated version-specific information. Thanks, Peter!
I would like it to be obvious to the user before they open a topic from the Search Results list that it is from the old legacy project.
I have found where the font is set, (thanks to the RoboWizard), but I am not a Javascript programmer and am uncertain how to code the "if document is from this project, then use this font" logic.
I would also like to put a "caption" below the "Search Results per page" line to explain the purpose of the color change.
I am using RoboHelp HTML 8.0.2. I generate WebHelp output which is then FTP'd to our server.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Leon,
Let me make sure that I understand your suggestion - I should change the title of each topic in the "legacy" knowledge base so that they each include a short identifier, such as "First Topic - Legacy"? If so, I suppose that would work, but I'd have to change 1,000 topics. The topic titles would no longer match the filenames (I'm trying to freeze changes to the old knowledge base to which there are many links from our user forum), which I suppose is not a big concern at this point.  I'll run some tests.
That has also raised another question in my mind, but I'll post that separately. It's about the way Robohelp selects the text that is shown immediately after the title of the topic in the Search Results list.
Thanks for taking the time to help!

  • RH8 - Bookmarks/Pages aligning to the right in TOC pane when long topic titles clicked?

Using Robohelp X5 standard webhelp the books/bookmarks are always aligned to the left and in view, as so:
When converted to robohelp 8 standard webhelp the alignment for the same page seems to align to the end of the topic title, obscuring the books/bookmarks as so:
Does anyone know how to change this back or why it has happended?
    Cheers

    Hi,
    This behaviour is also present in RoboHelp 7. To disable this in RoboHelp 7, open whthost.js and comment out the line: aIdList[aIdList.length-1].focus();
    like this: //aIdList[aIdList.length-1].focus();.
I don't have Robo8 before me now, but searching for this line in the Robo8 whthost.js may also eliminate this behaviour for Robo8.
    Greet,
    Willam
Message was edited by: Peter Grainge For RH8 you will find the file in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2\Adobe RoboHelp 8\RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock  Delete Adobe\Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2 from the path if you are using standalone RoboHelp.

  • Underscore randomly replaces forward slash in topic file names and topic titles

The problem I'm seeing is similar to the discussion at http://forums.adobe.com/message/2564701 which dealt with random insertion of underscores in topic titles. That problem seemed restricted to underscores replacing spaces in Topic File names and was solved (for some people at least) by deselecting the setting   "Tools > Options > General > Use underscores in filenames." Playing with that setting has not worked for me when it comes to unwanted replacement of forward slashes.
I'm running RoboHelp 9 and linking from FrameMaker 10. The unwanted underscores are seen in (1) the RH project and (2) the help output:
    (1) In RH project in some topic titles like this:
I want to keep the forward slash. The upper topic title is wrong and the bottom one is correct.
    (2) In AIR Help output: search results and in the tab that appears above the breadcrumbs in the main right pane.
I cant change the titles prior to generating output because, as Matt Sullivan wrote in the similar discussion, "...for topics created from linked FrameMaker 9 files, the Topic Title is not editable from the Topic Properties. If it was, at least I could change the offending titles prior to final generation of output. (though the titles would revert on the next update of the FrameMaker source content)."
I've double-checked the source FrameMaker documents and I can find no difference between Headings in which the forward slash is retained (desired) and those in which the forward slash is replaced by an underscore (unwanted).  Has anyone else seen this?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Isn't the issue here that RH is creating filenames AND topic titles based on the FM title. Because of the slash it is saying that is an illegal character it changes the filename and the title in RH is based on that, hence both change.
I don't know if that can be changed but now you can test to see if that is what is happening.

  • Greek Fonts for TOC Book and Topic Titles

    Good Morning.
I Create o project using RoboHelp for HTML.
I rename TOC book and topic titles using greek fonts.
If i generate the project using Webhelp as layout with
Section 508 Compliant Output everything is ok at runtime but if i
use Skin TOC book and topic titles display wrong fonts on runtime.
I'd like to know if there is solution for this problem.
    Thanks for help.

    Hi Scottie
What Colum proposed is the standard answer we have been giving for years and presently it's likely the best approach.
However, Adobe does listen to their customers. And I've seen this particular issue cropping up time and again through the years. So I'm going to suggest to you that you and everyone else wanting to see some changes here consider submitting a Wish Form to ask for a new capability. Ask Adobe to devise a way to allow the user to print in the manner you are seeking.
Click here to reach the Wish Form page

  • Changes to topics don't show up in chm & topics are duplicated

    I imported a RoboHelp 5 project into RoboHelp 7. When I edit
a topic, save, and generate the primary layout (chm) the changes do
not show up in the chm unless I access the topic through the TOC.
Also, duplicates of every topic show up in the .chm when I search
on a topic title: one with old out of date stuff that I don't know
where it's coming from and one that gets a "The page cannot be
    displayed" message.
    I am soooo confused.

    Hi, Hammer Chick,
Here are two recent threads where other users have reported
    similar problems:
    "Multiple/broken/repeated
    listings in Search results"
    "Double-entry
    Search results!"
    So the proposed solutions are:
    1) Make a backup of your project, and then rename the .cpd
    file and reenter your project.
    2) Try creating a new single source layout.
    3) Check the hyperlinks in your topics for any that
inadvertently point to target topics that are above the root folder
    of the help project.

  • Dynamic Topic Title

    RoboHelp 9
I believe there is a simple solution for this problem. I need to have the Topic Title change for each page in the header of the page. I believe this is controlled in the Master Page but am unable to locate the solution to making this happen.
If someone can direct me to another post or help page, I would appreciate. Thanks.
    DJ

This can be achieved by using the Insert > Fields and Variables menu item inside your master page. Select the "Title" value and ensure the "Auto Update This Field option is selected (see image below). The other key thing is to ensure that the field is placed inside the body region.

  • Iphone, area code, moving to another area code ( lol @ topic title)

I'm really close to getting an iphone 3gs, but I just have some last questions before I go ahead with the purchase. Bare with me if I don't know what I am trying to ask because I'm confuse myself, so pardon my nubness **** I don't even know how to make the topic title for this topic lol.
I currently live in a city in California who's name will be kept anonymous. I don't know if I plan on staying here for another year. I've been planning on moving to another area in California, either the bay area or maybe southern california or perhaps New York next year, who knows. I have a cellphone number but its under my parents' family plan, so I'm not really paying for anything. I'm thinking of getting an iphone and get a new cell phone number as well to go with it.
My question is basically regarding the cellphone number. My friend said not to get the iphone because if I do move to lets say to those said places above, my area code for the cellphone will be different and if people call me, I will get charged and they will get charged long distance or what not. That's what my friend said. Does that make sense? Can somebody please clarify/explain to me what happens if I move to another city with a different area code and whatnot? What kind of charges I will incur as a result.

You can always change you cell phone number.
If you move to another place you can change you phone number or not, your choice.
I have never been charged for changing a phone number.

  • Topics titles and topics ID

    Hi
We use Robohelp X5 for Word and we have quite a few problems
    1) Some topics and mid-topics titles have changes in the
references. They contain the phrase " .... PersonNameProductID...".
    We don't know why.
    The word document is OK.
If the topic ID does not contain this phrase, we can change
or delete the text of the topic title. That's no problem.
If the topic ID does contain this phrase, we can't do
anything. More than that, Robohelp does not work anymore and we
    have to reboot.
    2) Sometimes, the generation does not work : either it never
stops ... or it fails with no explanation.
    Sometimes, the generation works.
There are no changes in the document between the time it does
not work and the time it works.
Does anyone have some ideas ?
    Thank's
PS : sorry for my english, that's not my language

    quote:
Are you saying that with Smart Tags turned off, you still
cannot amend a topic id so that the phrase does not reappear?
    Yes, that's what I'm saying

Tim covered the inline if statement, though not specifically regarding a title, in his blog recently:

    The syntax is:

    hi,
how to change html style titles of a JTabbedPne at run time??

You can't change the canvas at runtime. But you can put the scrollbar on a stacked canvas and then show or hide that stacked canvas on different canvases.

  • Change the Page Title for all the pages when viewing the Reports in Bi Publisher

    Hello ,
I have a requirement for changing the Page Title for all the report displayed pages on the browser window.

As far as I know, answer is NO.
    it's very simple answer  Manikandan-S-Oracle
for 1210326 's requirements there are some places for changes of property "title" and in some pages "title" can be different
"one place or option for changing" does not exist imho ( may be i'm wrong )
so you can change places for your needs but not sure what it's adequate
    as example
    ...wls\user_projects\applications\bipdomain\xmlpserver\catalog\navigator.jsp  -->  find <title>
    it changes title in http://somehost:7001/xmlpserver/servlet/catalog
    ... wls\user_projects\applications\bipdomain\xmlpserver\home\home.jsp  -->  find <title>
    it changes title in http://somehost:7001/xmlpserver/servlet/home
